Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study.

You will need two GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language.

Working in the Health & Social Care sector requires a very special kind of person. Dedicated, passionate and always willing to go the extra mile to help make a real difference to the lives of others. If you are considering a career working with children and young people or adults, then this may be the course for you. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

What You’ll Learn Topics covered include: • Understanding the range of service provision and roles • Understanding the principles and values in Health & Social Care • Awareness of protection and safeguarding in Health & Social Care • Introduction to communication in Health & Social Care • Introductory awareness of equality & inclusion, health & safety, and person-centered support If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. Elements of Study Your programme consists of the following elements: • Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your programme) • English and maths (continued until the achievement of GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent) • Employability skills (e.g. punctuality, attendance, communication and team work) • Work experience (giving you a taste of working life) • Tutorial & personal development (e.g. healthy living, volunteering and citizenship skills).

You will also need to have excellent attendance at your last place of study and a clear DBS check.

How will I be Assessed? You will be assessed on how you use relevant knowledge, skills and procedures to complete routine tasks. This includes responsibility for completing tasks and procedures subject to direction or guidance.

Study Programme Overview Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study. This course is designed to provide a holistic programme of applied and general learning related to the occupational areas of Health & Social Care. You will attend College three days a week and have the opportunity to complete a work placement with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust – either at the Royal Bolton Hospital site or within a community setting. You will gain experience in a number of clinical areas during the two years, including various wards and departments. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

What You’ll Learn Throughout the two-year course you will study a variety of units, such as: • Anatomy and Physiology • Effective Communication & Interpersonal Skills • Sociological and Psychological Perspectives of Health & Social Care • Professional Development in the Workplace • Equality, Diversity & Rights • Research Methodologies You will also gain valuable clinical knowledge whilst on work placement, including: • An insight into Multi-Disciplinary Team Working • Professional Practice • Infection, Prevention and Control Procedures • Effective Communication • Compassion and Caring If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. Elements of Study Your programme consists of the following elements: • Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your programme) Part of the University of Bolton Group

There will be an opportunity to resit your Science GCSE during the course, but it must be completed within the two years. You will be assessed through course work, which will consist of: • Written assignments • PowerPoint presentations • Research projects You will also be assessed through your work placement. For this, you will be given a competence workbook to be completed during the two years, which will include sections on personal reflection and basic clinical skills.

Apprenticeship Overview Our Apprenticeship programmes will give you vital hands-on experience, learning from real life situations, with the guidance of Health & Social Care professionals. Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings. You will learn how to help adults with care and support needs, ensuring they achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible.

Based Tutor; impartial advice and guidance; dedicated one-to-one support for learners with additional needs; and support with the cost of College, plus much more.

Future Opportunities Alongside your studies, you’ll have a unique opportunity to be part of the University of Bolton’s EXCEED programme.

The Apprenticeship is a great way to build on your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst also earning a salary.

What You’ll Learn • How to support and enable individuals to achieve their personal aims and goals • The importance of diversity and treating everyone equally • Treating people with dignity and honouring their human rights • The importance of communication • Health and wellbeing for the individuals you support and your work colleagues • Relevant statutory standards and codes of practice

This will give you a range of additional skills and experiences, and includes masterclasses; university visits; access to industry experts; and mentoring and support with your university application, perfect for that next step into Higher Education. On successful completion of this Apprenticeship, you could progress onto full-time employment, professional job-specific qualifications, Higher Apprenticeships or a degree programme.

Entry Requirements You will undertake an enhanced disclosure and barring service check before starting the programme and you must obtain Level 1 in the Maths and English test that you will be required to sit. Additional entry requirements may be determined by individual employers.

How will I be Assessed? You will sit an End Point Assessment, which consists of a Situational Judgement Test and a Professional Discussion.

Following further study you could work as: • Primary Care Mental Health Worker, earning between £24,000 and £43,000 per year. • An Outreach Worker, earning between £20,000 and £35,000 per year. • A Care Home Supervisor, earning between £15,000 and £30,000 per year.
