Study Programme Overview Our full-time study programmes are designed to maximise your career prospects and widen your options for further or higher study. Skilled motor vehicle experts are always in high demand, and taking one of our motor vehicle courses could be your first step into this vital industry. This course offers an insight into the core activities within vehicle maintenance and repair. After completing the course you will be in a much better position to consider your next move in the motor vehicle industry. With all of our industry-standard equipment and high-spec diagnostic tools to hand, you could soon find yourself moving into employment in breakdown services, MOT testing or even renovating classic cars. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.
What You’ll Learn During this course, you will gain work-related skills within the vehicle maintenance and repair sector and develop generic employability skills.

Entry Requirements You’ll also be invited for interview and will be required to provide a satisfactory school reference.
How will I be Assessed? You will be assessed throughout your course and will be asked to build a portfolio of evidence.
Supporting Your Learning and Wellbeing We want you to enjoy every minute of College, both in the classroom and out of it, so we have a range of dedicated support and wellbeing services. These include FREE travel; FREE breakfast; dedicated Learning Development Mentors; impartial advice and guidance; dedicated one-to-one support for learners with additional needs; and support with the cost of College, plus much more.
There will be particular emphasis on the importance of appropriate conduct and dress within a work area and safe working practice throughout all work operations. You will have the opportunity to complete work experience during the course. Many of our learners are offered a permanent position at the end of their placement, and around 15 of this year’s learners gained some kind of employment through exposure to the industry. If required for your chosen career or HE course, you may wish to study English & maths to Level 3. Elements of Study Your programme consists of the following elements: • Study of your chosen vocational subject (50% of your programme) • English and maths (continued until the achievement of GCSE grade 4 or equivalent)

How will I be Assessed?
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but an interest or some experience of working with cars and manual industry-standard tools would be an advantage.

The course is assessed using a mix of practical assessments, job reports and online examinations. It is approximately 50% practical and 50% theory-based.

Your programme consists of the following elements:
Skilled motor vehicle experts are always in high demand, and taking one of our motor vehicle courses could be your first step into this dynamic industry. Learning in our £4.3 million STEM Centre with industry- standard equipment and high-spec diagnostic tools, you could soon find yourself moving in to employment in breakdown services, MOT testing or even renovating classic cars. This course is mainly theory-based, although 40% of your time will be spent working on cars. This course is ideal if your aim is to move on to a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship. Work experience is also an integral part of our study programmes, enabling you to gain essential exposure to the world of work.

This course will focus on fixing or replacing damaged body parts on all types of vehicles. Bolton College is one of the few places in the Greater Manchester/Lancashire area that offers motor vehicle engineering training.
We’d like to see a proven track record of very good attendance at work/school, along with a good reference from school/a previous employer. We also ask that you have a satisfactory level of English and maths, enthusiasm, motivation and a keen interest in your chosen sector.
Apprenticeships are the ideal way of breaking into the automotive industry, as they provide ‘on the job’ experience combined with expert tuition. The course is a great way to build on your skills and gain a recognised qualification whilst also earning a salary.

Apprenticeship Overview Our three year Apprenticeship programmes will give you vital hands-on experience, learning from real life situations, with the guidance of industry professionals. You’ll gain the skills and confidence needed to excel in your chosen career. This course will focus on servicing, testing and identifying faults with all types of motor vehicles. As a Service Technician you would be involved in a variety of tasks including servicing and tuning, replacing components and using specialist equipment to measure performance.

What You’ll Learn The Advanced Level Apprenticeship Incorporates a greater level of responsibility within your daily tasks and duties. Once accepted on to the Apprenticeship, you’ll study on a ‘release’ basis, spending occasional days at the College learning the knowledge that supports your Apprenticeship and the majority of your working days with your employer. During your Apprenticeship, you will be trained and assessed in a variety of specialisms within the automotive industry.
