Hello everyone. We at the Gran Alacant Advertiser are quite pleased October is over, it has not been a good month for me (Barry) as I contracted Puenmonia on the 2nd of October, thankfully I now seem to be on the mend, apparently it will take some time before fully fit again but getting there, luckily well enough to get the November magazine sorted and printed. Although unfortunately during the month we had to miss the official opening nights of Molly Malones, Chaz in Santa Pola and The Taberna Monte Mar, we wish them all the very best. We would like to thank everyone who offered us help if needed, especially Camila helping with adverts and Stefan for taking pictures for us. We were able to be at the unveiling of the Anchor on the Post Office roundabout donated by the Association of European Residents as you will see on our front cover and also 2 pics in the news section. Sheila fueron bautizados por inmersión total por el Pastor

We have just emerged from the summer into the autumn, a rather stuttering emergence at that. What I can say is that following the Santa Pola event in September the club has prepared itself for the winter programme of league events. From now until early April we will be playing 4 games each week on a home and away basis plus our internal trips league and the internal competitions. Our internal Winter Trips League started last week,13th October and this continues until 29th March 2012. We will be hosting the usual club events, such as the Christmas Roll up in December and the Charity events in January during the forthcoming season. Right are two photographs of the main players at the start of 2011, a few of them have left, but we have recently gained an extra 11 players. LACE MAKING EXIBITION
Here at the magazine, we are often amazed at the amount of small groups of interest that there are dotted around our Urbanisation. We were invited to a Lace Making Exibition on Gran Alacant and would like to publicise this group to our readers. A few words from Vivien Heywood. Over the weekend of Sept 24/25 our Lace and Craft group 'Artesanas Gran Alacant' held our annual Exhibition in the Life Resort. We are a group of local residents, both English and Spanish, who meet in the Ayuntemento Room at the Life Resort every Monday from 4.20pm to 7.30pm. It is a friendly informal group of ladies who are interested in many different hobbies. We often have workshops to teach each other new crafts. Lace making classes are free. Our teacher Maria speaks very good English and makes our meetings very enjoyable. You will find us very welcoming and always ready to have a fun. We enjoy each other's company whilst making beautiful items. So if you would like to join us, do come along on a Monday for a chat and see what we are making. Barry & Sandra ,still enjoying your G/A advertiser great stuff & informative. I would like to express my concerns & other peoples with smaller dogs & children for that matter. As you may remeber our dog Katy,now passed away, was attacked by a pit bull in G/A at midnight near Maxcoop several years ago & was badly injured.The dog was roaming alone with no lead no muzzle no owner with it. We now have Cindy who is very small & I have just returned from walking her on the waste ground near the allotments & once again I have to pick Cindy up to stop a larger Boxer dog attacking her. No lead, owner 300 yds away. I told these Spanish people their dog should be on a lead but are they bothered? they would be if I had to hit the dog with a stick they would be up in arms .Of course it isn't the dogs fault its the irresponsible owners. If you have a large dog put it on a lead. I am fed up with having to protect our dog against these larger dogs, there is a law saying they should be on a lead & in control. If they attack us in future be aware I will do all I have to to protect me & the dog. Now why isn't the dog warden coming down this area to check these irrisponsible owner out & fine them heavily this might get the message over.Can you please at the next meeting ask for the dog warden to cover all areas & take my comlaint up with the dog owners who basically don't give a damn about our little dogs.
Well thats the complaint over now a recommendation. Performance Diesel Centre on the Santa Pola Ind Est. The technician there Tommy has serviced my Ford Fusion & replaced a front wheel bearing on my motorhome. I am a ex mechanic & I can highly recommend Tommy, the service on my car was first class, with a few words of advice also about some items that may need further work later. I bought my motorhome & picked it up on Thursday but was very concerend about a very noisy transmission, which I put down to the wheel bearing on the drivers side. So I called to see Tommy at Performance Diesels & asked him to give it a spin & a second opinion. He dropped everything drove the motorhome round the block came back jacked it up & yes he agreed when he felt the roughness of the spinning wheel, its the bearings. I left the motorhome there, he called me with a price & next day it was all complete, sounds like a Rolls Royce now. So very commendable I can say that if I had a Rolls Royce I would take it to Tommy. So come on give this company & Tommy a try you won't regret it. Nice to meet a competent mechanic & not rip off merchants. Good luck to Performance Diesels & thank for the work you have done for me . take care Bill & Pat Winterburn

No Moors and Christians parades in November, however there is still something to go and have a look at, the biggest fair in the Costa Blanca that takes place in Cocentaina 28th October to the 1st of November, Cocentaina is next to Alcoy, The fair is divided in many areas: medieval, street market, agriculture trade, typical products and more. You will be able to find all kind of products there. You will need, at least, half a day to see it all. Also there are pilgrimages and local fiestas in La Nucia, Tibi, Onil, Benidorm. IF MY BODY WAS A CAR.. If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ... but that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it -Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

We rescued him and took him to the vet clinic immediately. Harvey had surgery to remove part of his tongue which had been destroyed with infection, thankfully he made a full recovery and he can drink and eat like any other dog. Harvey is 8 months old and weighs just 4 kilos. He is vaccinated and has a full pet passport eligible for all of Europe. Harvey is excellent with other dogs and cats and is a perfect lap dog. GASP Theatre were very sorry to have to postpone the planned performances of 'Pack of Lies' at the Casa de Cultura in October this was due to casting difficulties at the last minute.
However, we are pleased to inform you that the production will now go ahead on Wednesday 30th November and Thursday 1st December in the Casa de Cultura at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from David on 966 181 113 or 628 774 461 or pick up a booking form from various outlets such as GA Homefinders.
A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. 'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out. 'What have you got there, dear?' With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's Adam's underwear!'
