Hello everyone. Yes, 80 months of our magazine, plus 9 months at the start of Jungle Drums, 7 1/2 years of editing magazines, where has the time gone. This month our printer closes for holidays so a shorter time to get the magazine ready, if we have missed anyone out we do apologise, we do email all of our advertisers deadline dates and do appreciate them getting their adverts to us on time. As you can imagine a deadline date is important to us so we are able to get the magazine to the printer on time so that he can get it back to us for the 1st of every month. Is it us or did there seem to be more cars being driven around Gran Alacant this August, everywhere we went there were streams of cars on the move. Hopefully it means that there are more people coming onto Gran Alacant which in turn will be helping the bars, restaurants and shops. We at your Gran Alacant Advertiser continue to bring you all of the news, including that from our Gran Alacant Councillor, Loreto Cascales, as we have since May 2005. It is our perogative at the magazine, NOT to update this 2005 picture, as we all looked a great deal younger!!! the airport. Again details in this issue, There are 3 stops for this service, the GA Commercial centre,at the bus stop outside the old Farmacia on Avenida Mediterraneo, and down by the beach crossroads.
Many times here at the magazine, we have questions concerning the local bus facilities. Indeed we have more emails about the subject again, in this edition.
As you can see from the above picture, Baile bus main office is just off the square and Castle in the centre of Santa Pola. Easy to find, and English speaking to help with all of your bus queries. The orbital bus on Gran Alacant has now been running for the last four years. You can see the route in this magazine, enabling you to get on and off, where and when you like, around the urbanisation. This service is available all year round. Other services on Gran Alacant, are routes to and from Alicante and Santa Pola. (Timetables at the back of this issue). There is a service to and from

We are often asked why there is no service to the south of Santa Pola. We have published this month, a timetable which shows that if you take a bus into Santa Pola, you can then change to a service provided by Costa Azul, which will take you south via La Marina, Guardamar, Torrevieja and beyond. Bus services out here are a bit like in the UK. Different companies tender for different contracts, they then stay away from each others routes. Time tables are all then made up accordingly.
Quite a commotion at the top of the clot during the August Elche fiesta weekend which always seem to spread to our area. Fireworks were around everywhere and the result was this on the clot.

The town of Santa Pola, through the Local Development Agency, this summer hired six unemployed workers through the Employment Programs for Local Authorities (EMCORP), funded by the Ministry of
Economy, Finance and Employment through SERVEF and financed by the European Social Fund. According to Councillor Jorge PerellĂł, "to carry out the contraction of these six

Due to increased population and activity in July and August, Santa Pola has during these summer months provided a more local presence of the fire service with a permanent 24 hour service stationed at a building near to the Santa Pola local police station.
Fire appliances normally have to be called in from Crevillent. We had an email from a wheelchair user on Gran Alacant, telling us of the problem crossing on Zebra crossings as they were not built flat with the kerb. Loreto spoke with another person at an earlier date, who had the same problem. The Town Hall arranged for those crossings that were difficult to use, to be modified. So, to the person that contacted us, please email us back with the crossings that give you difficulty and the Town Hall will try and sort them for you, it would be impossible for them to modify every crossing but they will help where they can.
The results of the questions which we previously put about the taxis, will not be back to us until the autumn when all of the holiday periods have finished. The new Sports Hall should be open during September. As we spoke in August, only the final

painting, the artificial grass, and nets to stop balls leaving the area, need to be completed. Ways have been found to extend the local school without the need to erect mobile classrooms on the GA Commercial Centre, as earlier invisaged. Two rooms in the school have been vacated to give two more teaching rooms for the pupils. The canteen is being relocated and improved, and the staff room will be accessed in a mobile unit.
The Mayor and the Santa Pola Councillor of Education have been to Valencia to meet the new Councillor of Education. These talks are hoped to give the go ahead to another GA school starting in October or November. More news in next months magazine.
We mentioned last month of the get together during the full moon, overlooking the beach from the back of the GA library. Eduardo Garcia Pi帽ol sent us this report and pictures (on the right).
This was the third year of the Supper of the pan. The 36 children who had a great time with "Cristina Cheerleader" and the parents were able to dine leisurely. Each child had a gift. There were raffles for parents. The 40 lanterns Asociac贸n sold with proceeds given to the Association Against Cancer. We are pleased and hope that next year more residents attend. More news next month.

Como pueden ver en la foto, Autobuses Baile tiene su oficina central en la plaza del Castillo de Santa Pola. Es fácil de encontrar y con atención en inglés para responder a cualquier pregunta que tengan. El bus circular ha estado recorriendo Gran Alacant durante los últimos cuatro años. Se puede ver la ruta en esta revista, permitiendo subir y bajar cuando y donde se quiera. Estará en servicio todo el año.
Otros servicios que ofrece la empresa son las rutas Alicante – Santa Pola (y viceversa). Los horarios están en las últimas páginas de esta edición.
Hay un servicio para el aeropuerto. También está el horario en esta edición. Hay 3 paradas: el Centro Comercial, la parada de buses de la farmacia en la Avda. mediterráneo y abajo en el cruce para ir a las playas. Nos preguntan frecuentemente ¿por que no hay un servicio que vaya más allá de Santa Pola? En esta edición hemos publicado un horario que indica como hacer el transbordo desde Santa Pola, con la compañía Costa Azul, que realiza paradas en La Marina,

Los servicios de autobús funcionan como en Gran Bretaña. Las diferentes compañías se ofrecen para los diferentes contratos, entonces cada compañía hace su ruta y no se mezclan. Los horarios se hacen en base a esto.
Se produjo una gran conmoción en el Clot durante el finde de las Fiestas de Elche. Se tiraron petardos y fuegos artificiales por toda la zona y el resultado ha sido este (foto entre estas páginas).
Queremos mencionar una iniciativa para contratar más personas en Santa Pola. El pueblo de Santa Pola, a través de la Agencia de Desarrollo Local, esta semana contrató a seis trabajadores sin empleo a través de EMCORP (programas de empleo para los locales), fundado por los Ministerios de Economía, Finanza y Empleo, a través de SERVEF y financiado por el Fondo Europeo Social.
Según el Concejal Jorge Perelló : “para llevar a cabo la contratación de estos seis trabajadores,
SERVEF ha concedido un préstamo de € 28,996.44, con el cual ha lanzado un proyecto llamado “Mantener la calidad en las playas de Santa Pola”, el cual durará aproximadamente 4 meses.
Debido al incremento de población y actividad en Julio y Agosto, Santa Pola ha decidido que durante estos meses de verano, estará presente el servicio de Bomberos las 24h con un camión estacionado en un edifico cercano a la Comisaría de Policía.
Normalmente el servicio de Bomberos viene desde Crevillente.
Nos enviaron un email de una persona que usa silla de ruedas. El problema está con los pasos de cebra. No están a la misma altura que la acera. Loreto ha hablado también con alguien que tuvo el mismo problema. El Ayuntamiento ha decidido reparar algunos pasos, pero es difícil modificarlos todos. Así que, a la persona que nos contactó: por favor nos puede enviar un email indicando cuales fueron los pasos que le dieron problemas, se lo pasaremos al Ayuntamiento, que los intentará arreglar.
Los resultados de las preguntas que hicimos sobre los taxis, no tendremos respuesta hasta el Otoño, cuando el período vacacional haya terminado.
El nuevo Polideportivo abrirá durante el mes de Septiembre. Como comentamos en Agosto, sólo falta una mano de pintura final, el césped artificial y las redes para quedar completado. Han encontrado una forma de
extender el colegio sin recurrir a las unidades móviles en el Centro Comercial. Dos salas del colegio han sido convertidas en aulas para los escolares. El comedor se ha trasladado y se ha mejorado, la sala de profesores estará en una unidad móvil.
El Alcalde y el Concejal de Educación de Santa Pola han estado en Valencia para entrevistarse con el nuevo Concejal de Educación. Se espera que estas reuniones sean favorables para decidir el futuro de un nuevo colegio de GA empezando en Octubre o Noviembre. Más noticias el mes que viene.
El mes pasado mencionamos la cena de Luna Llena, con vistas al mar. Eduardo Garcia Piñol nos envio su reportaje y fotos (en estas páginas).
Este fue el tercer año de la Cena del Pan. Los 36 niños pudieron conocer a “Cristina Animadora” y los padres pudieron cenar sin prisas. Cada niño tuvo su regalo. Se hicieron sorteos para los padres. La Asociación 40 Linternas vendió los tickets, el dinero fue recaudado para la Asociación Contra el Cáncer. Estamos contentos y esperamos que el año que viene atiendan más residentes. A tourist arrives in Sydney, and the customs-officer is asking: "Do you have a criminal record?" The tourist answers: "Do you still need one to get in...?"
One of the things quite often said about Gran Alacant is that there is nothing to do other than beach, bars and restaurants. I came across Dive Academy Santa Pola via google, rang them up and booked on a Snorkel Safari to Tabarca Marine reserve. Damon the owner lives in Gran Alacant and was happy to pick us up on route to the Dive Centre 10 minutes away in Santa Pola. We were teamed up with a mixed group of English and Dutch families and after putting on our wetsuits (mostly back to front) fins and masks (scuba divers frown on them being called flippers and goggles apparently) and headed off to the island on the taxi speedboat. After arriving on Tabarca, Jake our ‘divemaster’ gave us a quick brief on how to put the gear on correctly, safety procedures and marine life we were likely to see. The first site we visited was called the black skull a small rock island about 100 meters from shore. Initially the water is only 1 to 2 meters deep which was great for the kids to gain confidence and the wetsuits actually helped them float. As soon as your mask breaks the surface you can see literally thousands of fish much to the kids and big kids delight. Around the back of the black skull the water is a little bit deeper and the more adventurous amongst us were ‘duck diving’ to the octopus holes Jake expertly spotted. After a quick break we headed to another site and went in the limestone caves, I was a little apprehensive about this at first but the caves turned out to be breath taking and not at all claustrophobic. Again the marine life was spectacular and the water as clear as a swimming pool. We headed back on the boat about 2pm with a boat load of smiley, tired kids and adults alike. It was a great day rounded of nicely with a cold drink in Marina Miramar.

LOOK AFTER YOUR WIFE..... A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting on the patio, drinking beer and watching my wife mow the lawn.
Cheryl from next door saw us and was so upset that she came over and yelled at me, "You lazy #$%&! Sitting there drinking beer while your poor wife pushes that ancient lawn mower around! Get up off your fat bum and give her a break!" I thought 'women!' Took another swig from my stubby, wiped the cold foam from my lips, lifted my sunnies, stared directly at this nosey cow and told her in no uncertain terms to sod off and mind her own business. I told her my wife had green fingers and that she really enjoyed gardening. After a few days I felt really bad, so I went out and bought her a ride-on mower to show my sensitive side. I'm really proud of the deal I got and also very proud that my wife can now sit down while mowing the lawn. Yes guys, we should take good care of our wives... then maybe they'll take good care of us. The preacher put one finger of one hand in Mulrunji's ear, placed his other hand on top of Mulrunji's head, and then prayed and prayed and prayed.
He prayed to the 'Almighty' for Mulrunji, and the whole congregation joined in with great enthusiasm.
After a few minutes, the preacher removed his hands, stood back and asked, "Mulrunji, how is your hearing now?" Mulrunji answered, "I don't know. It ain't 'til next week!" Two blondes are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the pavement and leans down to pick it up. She opens it, looks in the mirror and says, 'Hmm, this person looks familiar.' I love to read the Gran Alacant book and find out what is developing and going on here, the golf course and building work that is going to happen here is brilliant, but the immediate problems via the taxi prices leaflets, language problems for phoning and the bus to Elche and other places like Guardamar seems to be taking forever to sort out, surely it could be solved easily!!

I am writing in this magazine as it is the best way to let everybody know the situation we have on Gran Alacant. I think most of the people who live here know this but for the holiday makers will not, the supermarket Lidl on Gran Alacant is a hub for eastern europeans pick pockets. I was the victim myself on friday the 12th of august. I got the manager out of his office but he shrugged his shoulders as to say so what. They just dont want to know and they, to my suprise dont have cctv that records, in this day of age. The police were very very helpful and could not do enough and they told me that we should claim off the supermarket, but to my shock the manager said, no insurance ( I think this is wrong) but if true, wow, then perhaps we should not shop there for our own safety, (I wont, until I sort this out with my lawyer). So to all readers vote with your feet, dont shop in Lidl till they get all the security problems sorted out, perhaps this may work. Just to finish off. I work in phoenix bar and I had a lady and her husband come in on saturday night and she was robbed in Lidi on Sat morning, as I said they just dont care. Stay safe. David Walker. Hi Barry
Sorry I do go on and on and on about buses but since there are adverts in the Gran Alacant Advertiser for La Marina it is classed as nearby, again you have to go to Santa Pola and change buses to get to La Marina whereas on a direct bus it would only take 20 minutes, I do keep hearing about the market and charity shops there which I would love to support.
Could you possibly add this subject into your next meeting while discussing the Elche bus, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

FERAL (animals) FRIENDS OF GRAN ALACANT & nearby areas It´s been many Vet Bills, animals in need, please donate. Bancaja Account no. 2077 0338 7011 01564000 As you all know CRISIS is invading our countries; but believe it or not Spain´s animals have gotten worse crisis than tose in UK and the countries N. of Europe who have less of a economical crisis situation. We who help animals directly (thanks to your donations too) have more than a handfull and less night sleep worrying about those poor ones we cant help due to lack of funds (or/ and places to keep them). I know that there are thousands of organizations to help and I sincerely want you to help all of those reachable to you not forgetting that near you the Gran Alacant and nearby areas such as Arenales, Santa Pola, Altet, Airport are desperately counting on you too. Funds are very important otherwise we could not continue with our efforts to help them when injured , sterelize/castrate the feral cats to prevent for them to suffer leaving their colony looking for the mates and to get females pregnant all over thus having as many as the example in the chart below. In addition to the danger that this represents for ferals living among cruel people who throw rocks at them, put poison in the streets for them, trap them for pleasure to give them a terrible life AND VERY IMPORTANT for drivers as well – we have to continue our work so that drivers will not kill them thus causing traffic accidents ( most the time endangering our lives). Now can I insist to ask you to show your support with our org. to continue helping our 420.000 Cats born in 7 years of area animals in any way you can: becoming a foster family, becoming a donation 1 female not sterelized. member &/or a sponsor. 67.000 Dogs in 7 years of Your donations are used to pay high Veterinary bills, food, cat litter, clearing products, 1 female dog not sterelized transportation and sometimes kenneling till some of them are adopted alter their cure 8 weeks is when we can sterelize or treatment or taken into foster homes. dogs and cats Adopt – never buy – there are thousands sad animals neglected waiting for a 2nd. chance to be loved.
