Gran Alacant Advertiser continues to bring you all the local NEWS including information from the local Town Hall representative. Working for the local community since January 2005.

If you have any QUESTIONS or PROBLEMS you would like to ask our councillors, please email on info@granalacantadvertiser.com

ASK OUR GA COUNCILLORS

Q: Car transmitting information

We own a house in Calle Bélgica in Gran Alacant. Sometimes we have a car driving round with a speaker giving out important information.

Like myself, many residents do not speak Spanish. Please could this important information be played in English as well so we can understand the information. Kind regards Wendy

A: GA Advertiser:

We checked with our councillor Borja but as far as he knows the city council does not have a car circulating in Gran Alacant transmitting information.

If any of our readers know about this car, could you please let us know.

Q: Calle Antonia Garcia Andrei

Dear Lou, I want to come back on these mails and the complaint about the trees and the maintenance of them. Or should I rather say, the complete neglect of the maintenance? This is the situation in C/ Antonia Garcia Andreu in Gran Alacant.

2 years later and the situation is worse. I have already sent several mails to the city hall of Santa Pola, but they do not even have the courtesy to answer.

I will add some pictures (taken today, on the 22nd of July) ... in fact no further comment is needed . You can see for yourself: there is no way of going on the pedestrian

Borja

lane, you cannot even open the mailbox anymore, the trees are touching the walls of the houses, the trees are simply ill (look al the white fluffy things on the leaves), and thus make the walls dirty. And then I am not even talking about the damage they can cause - due to the roots. Who will pay for this? The moreover the leaves (with the fluffy things on) are sticky so not easy to clean when the fall on your terrace or into the pool.

I am counting on you to make move things, since the city hall simply does not care anymore… For the record, I like plants but only when they are well cut and kept healthy. Otherwise it is better to take them away if there is no maintenance.

Best regards, Nancy

Q: Trash on Avda.Escandinavia

Hi, the trash bins on Av. Escandinavia between Urb. El Faro and the Paragliding view point, have been moved to the other side of the road, but a lot of trash that was outside the bins is still left on the ground. It looks awful! See attached photos.

Would you help asking (or telling) somebody to clean the area? Many thanks in advance. Marianne

A: Borja Merino:

We have reported this problem to Encarni Ramírez, the councillor of cleaning and gardens and hope to see the trees trimmed soon.

Q: Green Glass Bin at Altomar 2

Hola Lou, I know a lot has already been written about this but I still have a problem. I know that the new bins were placed temporarily on Calle Monte de Santa Pola

right in front of people's apartments. My apartment is opposite the carpark next to the new school.

The bins have been put back onto the marketplace where they have been for a while but for some reason the glass bins have been left on the roadside. They are very close to my apartment and the noise of breaking glass is really awful. I am hoping that they too can be put back onto the car park which is at least a bit further away from my apartment.

I hope you can help me with this. Muchas gracias, Corryn

A: Borja Merino: I’ll ask Encarni Ramírez (the councillor) and if it’s logistically possible they’ll move it.

Q: Uber

Good Afternoon Lou, In the last issue of the magazine there was a piece about Uber and Cabify Taxi's arriving at Elche-Alicante airport, which is great news.

However, neither of these services work in Gran Alacant. Yes I can get an Uber from the Airport to my house at a significant saving compared to the taxi's at the rank (which should be noted that Uber pick you up in the express drop-off area on the top floor, not at the main taxi rank on the arrivals floor). But, if I want to get a taxi from my house to say, Tommy's bar, the service does not work.

I can pre-order a Cabify taxi for the same journey, but they charge me from Alicante and the cost comes out at in excess of €80.

I can pre-book an Uber from Gran Alacant to Los Arenales, but on the two occasions I have tried, the trip is eventually rejected by drivers.

We believe this is all because Gran Alacant falls under Santa Pola council, who appear reluctant to increase the number of taxi licenses they will issue, which I believe is currently only 14, which is just not enough for the growing size of Gran Alacant, especially with the influx of holiday makers in summer, who spend a lot of money in the local community.

The lack of taxi service also has a negative impact on residents and local entertainment businesses as people are not going to visit a bar in say Carabassi if they live in Don Pueblo as they know they would have to walk up the hill, and of course vice-versa.

This has also increased the number of 'illegal' taxi's in the area, with people offering their 'taxi' services on Facebook and Instagram. If Santa Pola council could be persuaded license Uber/Cabify it would make a massive impact on the lives of locals and tourist, not only by making them feel safer, but giving them significant more freedom, especially those with mobility issues.

If Don Marino could bring this to the attention on Santa Pola council and get the wheel in motion for change it would be greatly appreciated by the Gran Alacant community.

Thank you in advance, Sándor

A: Borja Merino:

Thank you for your interesting question. At the moment UBER is working fine in Elche and I will try to find out if they are planning to expand more in and around GA area.

Q: Phone Signal

Hi Lou, I am writing to complain, in the strongest possible terms, about the lack of a mobile phone signal in Novamar.

Very recently, Avatel internet provider suffered a major outage and for days the residents of Novamar had no WiFi signal. This meant no TV, no radio, no landline and due to no phone signal, residents were totally cut off.

Why it took Avatel so long to repair the fault is baffling but it highlighted the urgent need for a telecommunications mast in lower Gran Alacant. Councillor Oscar Valenzuela answered a similar request in July's issue. He stated that erecting a mast was a difficult problem. Apparently the telephone companies are not obliged to install a mast and the public spaces that are available are not suitable.

May I suggest a simple solution, firstly legislate to compel the phone companies to erect a mast and if they refuse, withdraw their license to operate. Regarding a suitable space to erect said mast, simply issue a compulsory purchase order. Problem solved. I was lucky that I didn't need to contact the emergency services during the Avatel blackout and shudder to think if I needed to.

Frankly, Oscar and his cronies need to stop sitting on their hands and do something constructive to resolve this ongoing saga. Public representatives are there to help the public and put the public's interest first, not kowtow to private enterprise.

Kind Regards

A: Borja Merino: Unfortunately, at the moment it is the same situation. It’s important that the neighbors call to their telephone companies to raise these concerns and explain the situation.

Gran Alacant News

SANTA POLA ADVOCATES FOR BETTER HEALTHCARE SERVICES

Mayor Loreto Serrano and Health Councillor Borja Merino met with Health Councillor Marciano Gómez in Alicante to discuss Santa Pola’s urgent healthcare needs. A key priority is the construction of a new health centre in Gran Alacant, where the City Council has already prepared the land and infrastructure. Gómez has committed to reviewing these proposals and visiting Santa Pola to assess the situation firsthand.

Loreto Serrano stated, "We return satisfied and hopeful from the meeting with the councillor, who was receptive and committed to visiting Santa Pola to see firsthand what these needs are and the healthcare situation in the city."

IES GRAN ALACANT SCHOOL CONTINUES ITS EXPANSION

The IES Gran Alacant is growing rapidly, expanding its facilities, staff, and student body. After a successful first year, the school will accommodate 350 students next year.

Temporary classrooms have been set up while awaiting the construction of a permanent building. The school has been focused on creating a welcoming environment, adding new amenities like water fountains, picnic areas, and external restrooms.

A partnership with the local government has also opened the school to neighborhood youth, offering workshops and activities through the "Los Viernes del IES GA" initiative.

The enthusiasm, dedication, and hard work of those striving to meet a long-standing community need are at the heart of this project. Despite the inevitable difficulties that come with any new initiative, the collaboration of the entire community has resulted in a solid educational institution in its first year, with active participation from students, families, and teachers from the neighborhood.

ILLEGAL DUMPING IN GA

The municipal cleaning services have had to repeat the collection of garbage (dumped without prior notice) at the same point up to 3 times in 24 hours to keep the area clean. Remember that the City Council and Urbaser offer residents a free home collection service for garbage and pruning debris (see next page for more info).

PROGRESS OF NEW COLLEGE ON CALLE MONTE DE SANTA POLA

Los Arenales del Sol, a district of Elche, is home to 3000 residents and welcomes up to 20,000 in the summer months. Its 3 kilometers of pristine sandy beaches and natural dunes create a truly unique and picturesque environment.

If you have any QUESTIONS or PROBLEMS abou Arenales del Sol you would like us to ask Alex, please email on info@granalacantadvertiser.com

Los Arenales del Sol is experiencing a vibrant transformation, highlighted by the recent inauguration of a 1,000-squaremetre social centre. This new hub offers a range of services and activities, including a Tourist Office, OMAC, Local Police, Post Office, workshops, and cultural events (please note there is no medical office until September). It’s set to become the heart of the community, fostering connection and well-being among residents.

Infrastructure has also seen significant upgrades, with newly paved streets, LED lighting along the promenade, and enhanced beach services. These improvements not only boost residents' quality of life but also make the area more attractive to tourists.

While there are still goals to achieve, plans are in place for a revolutionary transport system and a new hotel. With over 3,000 residents (increasing to 20,000 in summer), Los Arenales del Sol is on a path of growth and renewal, poised to become a model of progress in the municipality.

THE INTERVIEW

with SIANE GREEN

I love interviewing people for the GA Advertiser so I thought I would turn the spotlight on our very own SUPERSTAR GA BootCamp clients. This month’s interview is with the lovely Siane.

How long have you been attending I started in October 2023, just a few weeks after moving to Gran Alacant.

What fitness did you do before

I lived on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. The nearest gym and swimming pool was 22 miles away. I ran a small B&B and looked after my grandsons, so it was hard to fit fitness in and I am not a gym person. I tried Zumba at the local village hall and during lockdown I did walking fitness classes on You Tube.

Why did you start with GA BootCamp and Personal Training

I saw an advert in GA Advertiser and decided to try the Dance class. I love dancing and thought it might be a great way to get fit and meet new men and women.

Check out

What classes have you tried Dance classes, which run in the cooler months, and Aqua classes, which run during the hotter summer months.

What do you enjoy most

They are so much fun and they lift your spirits. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. When I started Aqua classes in summer, I met even more lovely people. The vibe that surrounds you gives you so much confidence, even if you do get a few moves wrong. They are a laugh a minute and so good for the soul.

We have coffee after each class and Lynne organises monthly events where we all come together and get to know each other a bit more. Lynne opens up the events for partners, family and friends to attend. This has been great for my husband Mike, as it has allowed him to meet new people. We have been to the themed karaoke lunches, 10-pin bowling and the last one was an introduction to Stand up Paddle boarding.

Favourite class

I love the Dance class. We have such a giggle and it is just so energising. We even get to choose the music.

I want to thank Lynne and the group for making us so welcome. I have more confidence and I have tried things I would never have dreamt of trying. We have also made some wonderful new friends. Best support network I have come across.

Book of the month by Beth

A compelling and intriguing read My Recommended Book of the Month

Strange Sally Diamond

Sally Diamond cannot understand why what she did was so strange. She was only doing what her father told her to do: to put him out with the rubbish when he died.

Now Sally is the centre of attention, not only from the hungry media and police detectives, but there is a sinister voice from a past she cannot remember. As she begins to discover the horrors of her childhood Sally steps into the world for the first time, making new friends and big decisions, and learning that people do not always mean what they say.

But who is the man observing Sally from the other side of the world? And why does her new neighbour seem to be obsessed with her? Sally’s trust issues are about to be severely challenged.

After reading a couple of pages I knew I was in for a good read. I loved this complex but very moving character of Sally Diamond - a great read.

Beth worked as a Qualified Librarian in Aberdeen for 20 years. She loves reading and delights in finding exciting new authors as well as reverting back to favourite writers of all genres. Beth has lived in Gran Alacant for the last 15 years.

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER

Tandem Paragliding

“We offer the experience and thrill of tandem paragliding flights in Alicante exploring the stunning landscapes of Santa Pola and Agost.

Paragliding Guide

We give pilots the opportunity to boost their confidence in the air, explore multiple flying sites and learn new paragliding skills. We have been offering a complete guiding service from beginners to competition pilots visiting from all over the world.

Paragliding Road Trips

We organise road trips to countries like Iran, Morocco, Algeria, Lanzarote and the Spanish Pyrenees for those who like that little bit more spice on their paragliding adventure. We explore new hills, meet new people and discover new cultures.

Our goal is to ensure you have a unique and safe flying experience with us. We speak English, German, French, Dutch, Flemish and Spanish.”

WHAT DO YOU SPECIALISE IN

“Tandem paragliding and guiding. We hold the official international license for tandem pilots and we guide visiting pilots from all over the world who want to come and fly in our region in Benidorm, Alcoy, Hondon, Alicante and Elche. I guide them as to where they can fly, how they can fly and how safe it is.”

WHY SANTA POLA

“In Alicante, we have the best of both worlds. Not only do we have beautiful cliff top coastlines but we also have stunning mountain regions. We also have the best climate. If you fly in the Alps, the weather is not always

great, there is a lot of rain and there are only mountains. If you fly in Holland, there are only dunes. Alicante is a mecca for people who fly all over the world. There are some locations like Alicante, South Africa, Chile, and Colombia, which are well known by paragliding pilots to be the best in the world. That is why I chose here.”

WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE

“I was a pizza man. I ran a few restaurants in Bruges in Belgium and I was making pizzas. I was doing well but it was never my passion. Paragliding is my passion so I followed my heart and changed my job.”

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST

“The smiles and warm hugs we get from people. The money we are paid obviously helps to pay the bills but giving people that unique experience and seeing their happy faces. I love that.”

BIGGEST CHALLENGE

“Doyouwanna is a one-man band. Thankfully, I have my partner Monique helping me that is precious. When we get busy with bookings that can be a challenge. Thankfully, we can always ask our colleagues who are also European licensed paragliders to help us out.”

DO YOU TAKE TIME OFF

“We are here most of the year except a few weeks in November, March and April when the weather conditions are not great to fly here. We head off to Morocco, Iran, Turkey, Lanzarote, Algeria and Columbia.

We go to different places to fly with other people who are passionate about paragliding.

That is our JOB that is our LIFE that is our PASSION.”

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS

LOU

“Thank you Nick for an amazing experience, which I will cherish forever.

I felt completely safe in your expert hands.”

SMALL BIRDS, BIG IMPACT!

Recently, we met Paula, a local resident and volunteer, who kindly invited us to watch the release of rehabilitated swift chicks into the wild in Gran Alacant. Paula works with Apus Libera, a charity focused on the rescue and protection of urban birds.

Paula cared for the chicks for several weeks until they were ready to take flight - swifts found on the ground are often healthy chicks that have fallen from their nests due to heat, with adults rarely falling unless they collide in flight. Paula is passionate about rescuing and rehabilitating urban birds such as swifts, swallows, and house martins, which face various threats in the region.

These birds, known for their aerial acrobatics and seasonal migrations, are protected under Spanish law due to their declining populations and their vital role in the ecosystem. As insectivores, they help control insect populations (consuming around 800 mosquitoes and flying insects daily!), benefiting agriculture and human health. However, habitat loss, climate change, and the use of pesticides have led to a decline in their numbers.

In Spain, a significant threat to these birds is the destruction of their nests by the public, especially during the breeding season. Property renovations conducted without considering nesting spaces can lead to the destruction of nests and the death of chicks, especially for swifts. Often, the nests of swallows and house martins are removed using brooms due to concerns about droppings on property. Spanish law prohibits the destruction of their nests, to ensure their survival during the breeding season. Spain's efforts to safeguard these birds contribute to global conservation efforts and help preserve natural heritage for future generations.

As the migratory season winds down in September/October and most of these birds return to Africa, it's essential to know what to do if you find a fallen bird on the ground. Often, these birds can be unintentionally harmed by well-meaning individuals.

ALWAYS contact a specialist before intervening with a bird on the ground, as their presence there often means they need assistance to return to flight. Keep reading on the next page to learn how to help them properly, and remember to check back next year when the migration season resumes in March!

Thank you Paula for your hard work in protecting these birds and sharing these incredible moments with us! You can find out more about the rescue and protection of urban birds via the charities Apus Libera or SOS Vencejos on facebook: @apuslibera @SOSvencejos

PANTANO DEL CENAJO

At the end of July we made our annual trip to the remote hamlet of El Cañar near Socovos in Albacete province. The beauty of the surrounding natural park and the abundance of places to swim in local rivers and lakes makes it a very special place to unwind and escape the hectic life of the coast. Spending the evenings sitting outside under a clear canopy of stars listening to the nocturnal calls of the local frogs is a privilege not available in many other places in modern Europe!

In past years we have simply enjoyed the peace and natural beauty of the area. This year, however, we decided to explore the most important man-made feature of the area: The Pantano del Cenajo (Cenajo Reservoir). This huge freshwater lake is integral to the agriculture that is an important feature of the regional economy and supplies water to farms growing fruit and vegetables for many miles around, in particular, in the neighbouring province of Murcia.

The pantano sits on the River Segura; we have written about this important river before. It flows through several provinces before joining the Mediterranean Sea not far south of us at Guardamar. Historically the river was prone to regular serious flooding; the precious water of the river brought life and wealth but could also bring sudden death and destitution to those living alongside it. Plans had been drawn up from the 19th century onwards for schemes to tame and control the river.

The scheme that was finally carried out has a dark history.

The reservoir, dam and associated works were carried out in part using the forced labour of political prisoners. After the civil war (1936-39) the regime of Francisco Franco imprisoned thousands of those who had fought for or supported the legitimate republican government that had been overthrown by Franco’s coup d’etat. The Franco government then proceeded to employ many of these political prisoners as forced labour on public works projects including hydrological schemes such as the Cenajo reservoir and also the monstrous “Valley of the Fallen” monument outside Madrid.

The Pantano del Cenajo project commenced in 1943 and works continued in phases until 1957 with the finished reservoir and dam being opened by Franco himself in 1963. The event was apparently marked by a bizarre sounding son et lumière (light and sound) show celebrating the power of engineering to tame nature for the service of man. The opinions of both the fascist dictator and the enslaved workers regarding this show are not recorded, although one assumes that Franco was satisfied with the propaganda value of the newly completed dam and water supply provided to local farmers. Indeed, the dam and reservoir have been

very successful and valuable in both taming the Segura river and supplying water to the rich agriculture of the surrounding provinces. Also benefiting from the project were the private companies employed to carry out the construction works. Amongst these are several that continue to play major roles in Spain’s economy, despite having employed political prisoners on schemes such as the Cenajo Reservoir and the Valley of the Fallen.

The engineering produced by this complex and dark history is however impressive. The magnificent dam wall rises steeply between rocky shoulders on either side of a narrow gorge. It resembles the classic image of a mid 20th century dam, complete with controlled torrents of water constantly flowing out and around the structure. The scale of such civil engineering is impressive, towering above one with millions of gallons of water held back behind impassive concrete and stone. The framework of our modern civilization is frequently hidden from us. How many modern Spaniards have

ever visited this majestic structure? Or for that matter, how many British people have ever seen a North Sea oil rig with their own eyes?

These feats of engineering are the cathedrals of the 20th century, huge and ingenious products of their age brought into being as much as symbols of progress as for their practical purposes. In our own age, in the 21st century, such huge schemes to “tame” and “harness” nature are somewhat more controversial; we are learning that nature cannot be exploited endlessly. A more harmonious approach may be more sustainable. It is unlikely that we shall see anymore dams on the scale of del Cenajo being built in Spain. It is also a tribute to modern Spanish democracy that the political prisoners who worked (and occasionally died) on the dictator’s projects are no longer forgotten, the Pantano del Cenajo now stands as their monument as well.

The cost is €10 per month which covers the buying of the music and the printing of the lyrics. Enthusiasm is more important than ability so either pop along to see us or join our FB group:

ABANDONED PETS

Last August 17th was the International Homeless Animals Day. In Spain there are about 6.5 million family dogs and 4.7 million family cats, and last year 286,000 were rescued from abandonment. These statistics were published by Affinity Foundation, and come mainly from animal shelters. Spain is the only country in Europe in which a serious study and investigation about this matter has been performed. The number of abandoned animals hasn’t increased in the last 4 years, and this is mostly because of mandatory microchipping in dogs and cats, and also because fines for mistreating and abandoning pets are much bigger now, and even in case of death, the offender may face up to 36 months imprisonment.

We must insist once again microchipping is absolutely necessary for preventing abandonment and accidental loss of pets.

Nowadays, practically 100% of dogs are identified, specially those ones which travel abroad. About cats, whose identification is also mandatory since last year, the number of microchipped ones is getting bigger and bigger.

In order to make effective all the advantages of microchipping, keeping all the owners details updated (address, phone number and email address), is critical. It is the owner’s responsibility to keep all these

details updated. If you don’t know how to do it, ask your Vet and we will show you the way step by step.

What do I do if I find an abandoned animal?

• If we are talking of a wild animal which is in danger, or causing any kind of danger, we should phone 112 (emergencies). If there is no danger, we should tell the Environmental Agents (if necessary we would do it for you).

• In case of a companion pet, you can bring it to a Vet practice, or maybe tell the Local Police, in order to have its microchip scanned for locating the owner. In case it’s impossible, the animal can stay in Local Police facilities till the owner is found. This is one of Local Police obligations.

Some weeks ago, a client came to our practice reporting a big parrot had appeared at his garden. The bird was a Green Winged Macaw, one of the biggest species. In less than 20 minutes, two officers managed to catch the bird and bring it to our practice. We scanned the microchip, contacted the owner, so she recovered quickly her macaw.

Cooperation is basic for avoiding abandonment or loss. Identifying our pets, no matter if it’s mandatory or not, is the first step.

Beaitiful ARENA is around 2 years old and did not have the best start in life so can be a little scared when you first meet her so needs someone with the patience and confidence to help her learn to trust. She is good with the other dogs at the local dog park. She just wants lots of cuddles and attention. She is vet checked, spayed, fully vaccinated and chipped with a passport. If you would like any information or to meet her please contact us at the Shelter on WhatsApp 711 075 305 or k9clubinfo@gmail.com.

Gran Alacant’s ELCHE CF SUPPORTERS GROUP

A group of football fans in Gran Alacant have their own Elche CF supporters club to attend home games at the stadium and watch away games in local bars.

Home games see the group move around different bars in GA, with the usual bars used being Happy’s at the GA Centre while Tommy’s is the regular spot up the hill. The group, primarily made up of 19 season ticket holders who sit together, arranges carsharing to get to the ground in time for some pre-match beers and food before returning to GA afterwards.

Tickets can be purchased via the club website at www.elchecf.es and there is also the occasional spare ticket available through the group as well.

Jornadas in Spain have games all spread out with each match being televised. It is normal for the date and time of matches to not be announced until 2 to 5 weeks beforehand.

An opening day defeat to Huesca means Elche need to start winning quick if they are to escape Segunda - the second division of Spanish football. Hopes are high of another promotion push to get back up to La Liga. Home games in September are on Monday 2 September against Córdoba at 21:30, then Granada visit on the weekend of 15 September followed by Mirandés on the weekend of 22 September (dates and times to be confirmed).

Find the group on Facebook at ‘Peña Elche CF de Gran Alacant’ ¡Mucho Elche!

GA SOCIAL CYCLISTS

There is a vibrant group of social cyclists in Gran Alacant who meet up outside of Molly Malones most days of the week at around 10:00am.

We ride hybrid and off road bikes, are of varying ages, fitness levels and both sexes and usually cycle the rural roads and paths around Gran Alacant, Santa Pola and Elche which means 12 – 25 miles per ride.

Fitter, stronger cyclists can opt to take different routes but, we always meet up at a designated stop for a coffee, and importantly, a natter. Sometimes the group is just two cyclists, whilst other times it can be as many as 10-12 and as a testament to the group, in the years we have been meeting, many strong friendships have been formed.

As we don’t all live in Gran Alacant we communicate via a Whatsapp Group so it is best to check on the Whatsapp group who is around and who is going out on any particular day.

If you want to join us please contact us on Whatsapp: 00353 / 87 991 6020

Please arrive by 8.45am to allow for teams to be arranged. Hopefully you have all managed to stay in shape over the close season! I look forward to seeing new and returning players.

A reminder to all that Women’s Walking football sessions will recommence on Thursday 5th September 10.30 hours at the Gran Alacant Sports Centre.

If you are still undecided about giving this scheme a try, its worth remembering the research findings in repect of the health benenfits of regular exercies, the positive impact on social interactions and relationships, the contribution to good mental health and well being and finally the way in which the activity contributes to the strengthening of the abdominal muscles (basically because we spend a lot of time laughing)!!

There is a forthcoming opportunity to come along and witness our endeavours for yourself, when we participate in our charity fundraiser in aid of Paul Cunningham Nurses on the 26th September at 10.30am.

The Women (with the help of their coaches) will take on the Gran Alacant Mens Walking

Adopt me!

FLORA

Please come along and support this fun event – a great opportunity to exercise your own abdominal muscles!

For further information contact Julie on Whatsapp: (+44) 7926 187 469.

We are looking for businesses who may want to donate raffle prizes for this worthwhile event - please contact us as soon as possible to arrange!

Flora was left at our shelter by people who claimed she was a stray, but we suspect her previous owners didn’t want her anymore. Significantly overweight due to poor feeding habits and neglect, Flora’s obesity is not due to any metabolic issues. Despite her past, she is a gentle and affectionate cat. Flora needs a loving home that will manage her diet, encourage her to exercise, and provide the care she deserves.

Currently weighing nearly 9 kilos, she is on the road to recovery in her foster home and looking for a forever family to continue her journey to health and happiness
