Welcome to our November edition Our 70th Monthly publication Firstly we would like to congratulate Santa Pola Town Council on receiving The Sustainable City award in the water category from the Environmental Forum Foundation, supported by the Ministry of Environment and the sponsorship of the Ecotic Foundation and Urbaser. The front cover picture shows our councillors in Madrid after accepting the award. Read about this on page 4. October saw the "Abel Anton" race where hundreds of adults ran 10,000 metres round a course in lower Gran Alacant. It really was a spectacle to watch and the organisation as always was very good, this was followed by the childrens races on the G.A. Commercial car park. It is a fun day but the children took their races very seriously. Two days before going to print, we were at the GASP Theatre Groups first full production. It was very impressive and we will have pictures in next months edition. With Christmas next month, please give us plenty of time to do justice to your festive advertisements. Have a good month Sandra and Barry

Award for
Santa Pola Town Hall Members of the Santa Pola Town Hall were invited to Madrid on 18th October to be presented with the Sustainable City Award in the water catagory. Santa Pola has won this award for its initative of implantation of the sustainable integral cycle of water in the Municipality, saving money in the cost of water, sewage etc. by repairing bad pipe work, filtering out nasties from the water, the use of new pumps and solar panels, all helping the environment. The award was presented by Princesa do単a Letizia to our Mayor, Miquel Zarragozza, which you can see on youtube via
www.santapola.es and then the link to Gabinete de Prensa.

We were at the wonderful choir performance at the Life Resort on September 24th, reported below by Ralph and Kate Jones.
An evening of music was enjoyed by the residents & visitors of Gran Alacant at the Life Resort Theatre. The charity evening was in aid of the local Santa Pola Alzheimers & Dementia Society. The evening was a huge success with a packed auditorium enjoying a mixture of traditional Welsh songs, together with classics from famous musicals, performed by the two Welsh choirs on tour from Wales. “Voices in Harmony” and “Trinity Singers”. We would on behalf of the charity of Santa Pola like to thank everyone who attended the concert for their kind generosity, which raised a total of 600 euro.
These Choirs were performing in Torrevieja and it was hurriedly arranged for them to come up to Gran Alacant to perform. The wheels were then set in motion for everyone to get together to make it happen. A venue was organised with the help from the Life Resort and the Town Hall who arranged for buses to get the performers to and from the event, and Loreto was even running around, trying to borrow a piano for the event. It is times like this that show the coming together of our community.
The new roundabout is complete. There had been a small delay, concerning the electricity, which delayed the official opening, which should have happened after we went to print, so, pictures in next months edition . The area of bank facing the roundabout is to be landscaped with stones and seating, the work being carried out by the Town Hall

workforce. The cost of the roundabout works was 162,000 euro. None of this money had to be spent through the Town Hall coffers, as the cash was a grant from Central Government, based upon the number of people signed on the padron. WHEN IS THE LAST TRAIN???.. We were asked to talk to Loreto about times for the last train running in the evening. People are going on the train for meals out and about on Gran Alacant, then finding that they cannot get home as the train is not running. They had also paid a return fare, but could not get their money back. The train company does display this information at stops, but unfortunately these get taken down. They always post the final time at the stop point in the GA Centre, so best to look there, or, ask the driver for the last train time before you pay for a return fare. Yet another fire on Gran Alacant. Another that was deliberately started in the early hours of the morning. Eighteen homes were evacuated in the Panorama development in case the fire spread to their homes. The Police and the Town Hall are appealing for witnesses so they can put a stop to these fires, before somebody gets killed.

How do you feel about the gas
company digging up our nice surfaced roads and urbanisations. They will always dig up the most cost efficient route to them. So once they start, they will go where they like. Nice to see that some community committees have kept the gas out, therefore preserving their tarmac. This digging must be costing a fortune and there is only one person going to pay for it, the gas consumer. One of Gran Alacants forums, Chickenwing, is starting their restaurant awards again. Now that the summer is over, they will be inviting votes for the Gran Alacant Restaurant of the Year award. This was won last year by one of our regular advertisers, Los Belgas. Remember a previous notice from us, concerning stickers on lamp posts, where the Town Hall put up signs, warning of fly posters being fined. The Town Hall is collecting fines from those who have disrespected the warnings. The allotment lottery has taken place and all people selected have been informed. There are still four plots left, if you would like to be considered for one of them please go to the library or Municiple Office to put your name down. This has to be done between 22nd October SEE OVER PAGE

and the 3rd of November, for the draw to take place on 12th November. The big event during October was the “Abel Anton” race, a 10,000 metre race for adults around the bottom of Gran Alacant, then with a series of running events organised by the Town Hall from little tots to young adults on the G.A. Commercial car park. There were trophies handed out for each race. This year there were 1,300 people in total taking part. This event always attracts massive crowds. We have again been asked about dvd’s of Santa Pola fiestas. The Tourist Information Office by the Town Hall does sell a disk for just 3 euro. It is a general dvd publicising all that happens in our area, including the fiestas. You have to pay for it by a credit card as they do not take cash. The second phase of work at our sports centre is to be funded by the Valencian Government. The 22nd October was to see the choice made from the quotes put forward for this work to be carried out. We mentioned to Loreto the questions on our email pages and below are some of the answers given.

The Chinese restaurant pavements near the G.A.commercial centre are not the responsibility of the Town Hall. It is surprising just how many areas still come under the jurastiction of urbanisations or private companies. The Town Hall source all of their bins etc through private companies, always going for the most competitive price. Loreto would be happy to point you in the right direction, just make an appointment to meet with her. Garden waste still comes under discussion. We on Gran Alacant can only do as those in Santa Pola, that is, to take it to the main tip in Santa Pola so that it can be put into the correct recycling areas. If you cannot get to this tip, please put cuttings into bags and then into the waste bins, this does however mean that they cannot be separated for recycling. We mentioned the slippery pavement outside Quicksave, which we hope can be rectified. Doggie poo which to us and many is an extremely important issue at the moment. It seems that nothing has come of our petition for a dog warden or bins. What next? Any ideas?
12
The long awaited use of the Santa Pola swimming pool gets
no nearer. The issue is now going through the courts, so could be a while before building work is recommenced. With the mention of the slope to the library, Loreto asked us to forward the email to her and she would see what she could do to help. VOTING ISSUES May 22nd 2011 sees the local elections. If you want to vote, you must go to the Gran Alacant or Santa Pola Town Halls before 31st December 2010 and ask the question, am I on the list to vote? We have scanned a couple of parts from the leaflet to help.

Santa Pola Open, Mixed Rinks Tournament
(21st 22nd and 23rd September 2010) The tournament was formally opened by Lola Gadea the deputy mayor of Santa Pola, who welcomed us all. After three days, of some very good and sometimes superb bowling which was enjoyed by both players and spectators alike. Our Monte Mar team of June and Bill young and Denise and Alan Ashberry put up a glorious fight and was just edged out of qualifying for the final by the very good team from Emerald Isle, Who lost the final against the team from Quesada. Monte Mar came third by a good win in the play off against
Quesada players with the winning trophy

Monte Mar won 4 rinks Surrey Presidents won 1 rink with 1 tied game. In the afternoon the CBBA played Surrey Presidents and won 5 rinks to 1 and the overall shots. We started the southern league off on Monday with a friendly match MATADORS V TOREADORS a good game with lots of friendly banter between the teams, the bad news for the toreadors is that we lost 9 points to 5 points but it was a great way to start the winter season. We also yesterday wed 13th played the first round of the super series against LA MARINA, this is played over two Wednesdays the next round is wed 20th, after yesterdays game we were 6 points each so the result will rest on next Wednesday’s game or could be decided on shots so we are all looking forward to next week.

WHAT’S THAT IN THE CLOT? by Mark Etheridge
My birding chum John who lives in Gran Alacant is of the opinion that if he ate nothing but dried-out thistle seeds, he would apply to get in the Guinness Book of Records for having the world’s biggest thirst. He would be on first name terms with every bartender and barmaid in GA (well, apparently he already is, but that’s neither here nor there) as he attempted to empty their cellars on a daily basis. He says this every time we see Goldfinches. So with not much rain around (unless we’ve had a recent gota frio), any area of open water is bound to attract parties of Goldfinches, and the Clot is no exception. The Clot is in fact the equivalent of the Savoy Hotel for these birds – plenty of thistle heads and other seeding plants burnt to a crisp in the hot sun, insects to feed to their youngsters, lots of cover from predators – and above all a reliable source of water. The breeding season in our area this year appears to have been extremely good for t h e s e attractive s m a l l finches. In September I saw several family parties on the pool, with anything up to thirty birds present in each group. They are not difficult to recognise – the golden flash from their wings is easy to see,
22
as are their bright red faces, but you might be slightly confused at this time of the year when you see a bird with the bright wing flashes but with a dull grey head. These birds are this year’s youngsters, the red face only develops as they grow through their first winter. In my photograph you can see two adult birds, but the others are youngsters whose red faces are only just starting to come through. You can also listen out for their tinkling song, which in the bad old days led to Goldfinches being imprisoned in cages as house pets; fortunately this practice is now illegal and numbers are on the up. Although they are very sociable, when they get down to the water to drink and bathe, there is a surprising amount of aggravation on show between the birds over their washing and drinking sites; their pleasant song changes to an angry buzz of disapproval when someone nicks the best spot – it can be like Benidorm beach out there, but without the rubber rings and li-los. Goldfinch (Jilguero in Spanish) numbers increase here even more during the winter, and surprisingly enough a lot of these birds are from the UK. Here’s a final thought this tiny little bird manages to escape the worst of British weather by flying to Spain without needing to decipher the complexities of the Ryanair website; that’s a sensible bird in my book. See you next month.

A Yorkshireman's wife dies and the widower decides that her headstone should have the words "She were thine" engraved on it. He calls the stone mason, who assures him that the headstone will be ready a few days after the funeral. True to his word the stone mason calls the widower to say that the headstone is ready and would he like to come and have a look. When the widower gets there he takes one look at the stone to see that it's been engraved "She were thin". He explodes: "'ells bells man, you've left the blood y "e" out, you've left the blood y "e" out!" The stone mason apologises profusely and assures the poor widower that it will be rectified the following morning. Next day comes and the widower returns to the stone mason: "There you go sir, I've put the "e" on the stone for you". The widower looks at the stone and then reads out aloud:

Snowy is a lovely male cat, 4 years old, healthy and neutered. He is looking for a new home following the sad death of his owner who lived alone. He is adorable and is in desperate need of a new home.
Colin looks to be Border Collie cross and quite small. He is one of the dogs that we rescued after he and three other dogs were thrown into a disused reservoir during the hottest days of this year on the Costa Blanca. Whoever did this was cruel and heartless, they were left there to die. It took our volunteers many hours to rescue all four of them. They were so traumatized they ran all around the sweltering waterless concrete basin to avoid capture. Colin has been in our private kennels for many weeks and he still needs lots of TLC and patience before he will trust people again. Can you take him into your home and patiently wait for him to trust you. Alternatively, please become a K9 Sponsor so that we can provide Colin and the others that were found with the best possible care and treatment. Please mention Reservoir dogs and email us on: k9sponsor@lamarina.info
Annie is a very small 10 month old Terrier with a lovely nature. She was found wandering the streets of an urbanisation, she probably had been thrown from a car and abandoned. She is in good condition, she is definitely a lap dog and she loves everyone. Annie is good with other dogs and cats.
We heard the hunters shooting in the days before we found her. A few days later we were walking along the side of the canal when we saw her. She was struggling to keep her head above the water. We called the K9 Club animal rescue and they responded immediately. We could see that we had to move quickly as she was totally exhausted and had only minutes to go before she gave in and collapsed under the water. We lowered a ladder into the water and got her out just in time. We let her rest for a couple of days and then took her to the K9 Club vet. She was examined and a blood test revealed that she does not have a life threatening disease. She is very timid and a typical Galgo (Greyhound), very friendly and submissive, she is approx a year old. We have named her Phoebe.

Buttock Massage and Exfoliation
Hello everyone welcome to the next instalment of Massage.
Indian Head Massage. Indian head massage has been used for thousands of years to treat the mind and body. In India Ayurvedic and traditional medicine is as important as orthodox medicine. It aims to treat the whole body so as to maintain a balance between the physical, mental and spiritual. Indian head massage uses and adapts classic Swedish massage techniques for treating the scalp, face, neck and shoulders. It is extremely good and effective for treating stress because it works on the areas of the body most affected e.g. shoulders, upper back, neck and head. In both my full body massages and the half body massage, I always’ include a head, neck and face massage as head massage has a number of benefits which include, increased joint mobility and flexibility in your neck, arms and shoulders. It reduces tension in the tissue, making them more flexible which minimizes stress on bones and joints. It improves circulation removes waste in particular Lactic Acid. Petrissage movements on the neck and shoulders helps reduce tension, releases tightness in overworked and tense muscles. Stress reduction helps prevent stress induced muscle spasm in the back, neck and shoulders.
Do you want a bottom like all the models? Then a buttock and exfoliation is the answer. This treatment consists of a 20 minute workout on the muscles in your buttock, (Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus and Gluteus Maximus) followed by a 10 minute exfoliation of the skin to remove all the dead cells. Clients who have had this treatment have stated that they felt their buttocks were uplifted and felt clean afterwards.
Sports Massage.
(This is not a treatment that I do but can be arranged for you) Sports massage combines the use of Swedish massage with additional more intensive techniques for the prevention and treatment of sports injuries. It can be used as part of a training program to help prevent injury, as part of a warm up for an event such as a marathon and also as a cool down after an event. Like other forms of massage, sport massage helps improve suppleness and flexibility of the joints and muscles. It improves lymph and blood circulation and assists the body systems to function at their optimum levels. Sports massage has more specific effects and benefits such as speeding up the healing of damaged and overworked tissue and muscle. It increases fitness capabilities and performance potential peak performance can be reached faster and, once reached, sustained over longer periods. See you all next month

Genuine emails to our magazine Hi Sandra & Barry. We live in Gran Alacant by the GA Centre. The pavement going up to the Gran Mundo Chinese restaurant is disgusting ! There are many broken paving stones which are dangerous & also at the back of Consum to the back of Gran Mundo ( near the bins ) the pavement is absolutely filthy & a health hazard. Can you please pass this information onto Loreto Cascales. Many thanks. Della B Cooper -----------------Hi Barry and Sandra We have just come back from a two week holiday in Gran Alacant staying in the Carabassi. We had a fantastic time and the weather was fabulous, we would like to thank everyone at the Cork N Bottle, Paul and Michelle (landlord and landlady) Gary and Liz, great times were had there and especially the Wild West Fancy Dress night on Saturday 25th of September. We met some great people there, everyone was so friendly and helpful. Hopefully we will be back again in November to see all our friends again. Also a big thank you to the staff at The Phoenix and Aquarius for the wonderful food. If you could just publish this special Thank You in your magazine we would really appreciate it. PS Great magazine by the way lots of great information, keep up the good work. John and Alison Wexford (Ireland) -------------------Hi Barry & Sandra, As president of our community, it is frequently the case that I would like to source items not readily available in local shops i.e. dog poo bins, parasols to be permanently fixed around our pool area etc. etc. I wondered if through your contact with Loreto, she could advise us where the council obtains things like this (presumably through a purchasing department?) Is there a catalogue available? Might we be able to buy through S.P. council? My spanish is extremely limited I'm afraid, but our administrator is spanish if a meeting with Loreta or another council member would be appropriate. You may remember me (3.2.G), & I want to get
58
things right for our community. So often industrial items are the most efficient, safe & in the long run, the cheapest, but it's difficult to find out where to go to get them. Thanking you in anticipation. Mike Williams ----------------------It was with great amusement that I read their e mail, I have lived and owned a pub in Spain for the last 22 years, in those early years there were a great many more beach bars and discos, which stayed open day and night. I dont think R&I know a thing about Spanish way of life, so I will inform them, The Spanish normaley have the whole of August off work, so they want to party not go to be to toss and turn they do that all year. So they get up about 11-00am go to the beach till about 3-00pm go home have lunch and about 6-00pm go for their siesta , then they get up about 9-00pm shower dress have super and about 11-00pm go to party until the wee small hours, and so it continues for the rest of the month so I dont think they would be too happy if the muic stopped at midnight, So R&I can complain all they like Elche are not going to do anything as they make too much money from them, and if they went further down the road towards Santa Pola they would find a few more music bars open all night, also if they wer'nt there the Spanish holiday makers would't come and every one would be a looser. So if you dont like noise dont come to Spain in July or August we are the second noiesest country in the world, dont buy a property near the beach or a swimming pool. And they wonder why they call the English wingers, in fact a lot of the Spanish are getting to dislike the English for taking over large parts of their country, AFTER ALL WHO'S COUNTRY IS IT !!!!!!!!!!! The English complain bitterly when it happens in England and is why they come over here to do exactly the same thing J ............................ I would like to respond to the email printed in your magazine regarding the music at the bars on the Carabasi.
As a full time resident in Gran Alacant I love the fact that come the summer all the bars have music and entertainment outside in the beautiful warm evenings.
you don't know the answer, perhaps you could ask Loreto for clarification and, if it's the Eco-parque, perhaps we could have an area for garden rubbish set aside in GA so the bin areas are kept cleaner.
It is great to have somewhere to go now the kids have grown up and we are free to do as we please. I have done my stint of ballparks and all inclusive holidays to keep the little ones entertained and now it is my turn to have some fun.
Regards Francis ----------------------
We took a long time to decide where to live and made a good decision for us based on proximity to bars, facilities and transport links. At night in the summer when we go to bed with the windows open we can hear the warbling from the local bars karaoke and we give them marks out of ten but more often than not we are in there attempting our own very bad version. My apologies to Freddie Mercury!
Dear Barry and Sandra, When you have your meeting with Loreto this month, please can you ask her the situation with the swimming pool in Santa Pola. We heard that they now have the money to finish it but nothing seems to be happening. It will be great to be able to use it during the winter months, so please please ask her if she can find out the situation, thanks. Also please thank her from us for all that she is and has done for Gran Alacant, it really is a lovely place to live Regards, Val Haynes
Gran Alacant bars have very little time to make their money which must sustain them all through the winter and so need to take advantage of the summer months.
Dear Barry and Sandra
Part of living in a resort means there will be holidaymakers having a good time till the early hours of the morning. When our friends and family visit this is exactly what they want and we are proud to have this on our doorstep.
I think the worst pavements in Gran Alacant must be on Avda Escandinavia from the junction with c/Monte de Santa Pola down past Quicksave around El Peripe cafe, to the On Stage bar on the corner of Altamar 2.
I suggest that R & I made a bad decision when buying their house and should consider selling and moving to a more remote location until their son is 18 by which time the loud music will be coming from his bedroom and they will be up at 3:00 am collecting him from the bar on the Carabasi and asking if he had a good time.
Regards Dave Bevan (Brisamar)
karen ---------------------Hi Barry, Do you happen to know what the Ayuntamiento's rules are for the disposal of garden waste i.e. prunings and dead leaves? I've obviously seen that a lot of people either dump them in the grey domestic waste bins and also put them beside the bins - sometimes in bags. The result is usually a mess in the bin areas. However, I've been told that the correct procedure is to take them to the Eco-parque in Santa Pola just off Portus Illicitanus. If that's true, then it's hardly very ecological to drive 10 kms (return) just to dispose of a tings! If

----------------------Hello Sandra & Barry, Here is a suggestion photographed on a recent visit to Dublin (Howth). A sign like this (but not only the sign - if you see what I mean?) combined with an adequate number of "doggie bags"! placed on the rubbish bins all over Gran Alacant might improve on the problem. Let's face it, picking up the s... is like paying tax - apparently people don't do it voluntarily! Regards Uffe Nellemose Gran Alacant

Dear Sandra & Barry, I wonder if you, at your next meeting with Loreto, could ask her if it would be possible to have a railing on one side along the slopes leading down to the library. For people like myself that aren't so safe on the legs, going down hill is a problem, esp when the tiles are wet and slippery. It'd be a great help to have something to hold on to. I would like to visit the library more often but as it is now I haven't been there for more than one year. Thank you for your help and thank you also for an excellent magazine.

My wife and I were happy for twenty years... Then we met.
The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. 'Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer, she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael, He's a doctor.' A small voice at the back of the room rang out, 'And there's the teacher, she's dead.'
Two secrets to keep your marriage brimming 1. Whenever you're wrong, admit it, 2. Whenever you're right, shut up. 62

A CAT IS NOT A SMALL DOG This may seem quite obvious initially, but it’s true that lots of people are unable to understand their cats because they compare them with dogs. Cats are different from dogs: they eat in a different way, and they think in a different way, too. Feline breeds are not normally as familiar for people as dogs breeds are. Very little people know any feline breed apart from Persian, Siamese and European Shorthair, but the truth is there are hundreds of different cat breeds. A cat is a real carnivorous animal: they get all the nutrients they need from meat. Dogs must be considered as omnivorous animals, because they need a small amount of vegetables in their diet. A cat needs no vegetables at all, but a higher quantity of proteins and fats in its diet. Cats are predators, not scavengers: they won’t eat dead preys nor anything they find at the dustbin, but they will eat anything they are able to hunt: cockroaches, small lizards, birds, mice, or even toys which move by pulling their strings. Is not mandatory for a cat to eat biscuits, but they love them, and also milk, cream, ice creams, etc. Depending on the gastro-intestinal sensitivity of the individual, those foods may become a problem or not. Cats are normally lonesome
64
animals, they don’t want to be a part of a group as a dog would do, so, normally they prefer to be the only cat, or even the only pet, at home, and don’t accept other pets very easily. In some cases, when a new member of the family appears (a new pet or baby, for example), the cat just runs away from home. It’s difficult to know “a priori” if the cat is going to like the new member or not, so it’s very important for the cat to have a place where to get hidden, while he “thinks twice” about accepting the new situation. When time to go to the toilet, a dog just doesn’t care, but a cat prefers to be alone. The litter tray must be clean and placed in a quiet zone. Most distressing situations for cats are related to the litter tray: dirty ones, improper sand, and sharing the tray with other cats. A healthy cat spends most of his life sleeping or having a rest, and an important part of the day cleaning himself (this is the cause of furballs). He will normally eat very small quantities of food lots of times a day. The explanation for this would be that cats normally have very small preys (insects, small lizards and birds), so they need to eat lots of them every day, so a domestic cat will behave in a similar way, eating small quantities of food, by very often, during day and night. Feeding patterns in dogs are different they used to hunt very big preys working together with other individuals, so, one meal (prey) a day is enough for them, despite this pattern has disappeared in lots of cases, more
commonly in small dogs. About cat breeds, everybody normally know some longhaired breeds (Persian), and short haired ones (British Shorthair), but there are also some medium haired breeds (Somali), curled hair ones (American Wirehair, Rex), and also hairless ones (Sphynx). Most of them have a normal tail, but some of them have a shorter one (Japanese Bobtail), or no tail at all (Manx). There also are lots of different colour combinations, from black to white, every kind of grey, cream, ginger, tabby, spotted ones or single colour ones… with blue, green or golden eyes. The eyes colour is genetically related to the coat: an odd eyed cat, will always have white spots (or it will be completely white): a completely black or ginger cat will never have odd eyes. In a
similar way, tricolor individuals will always be females. There are slim cats (Siamese, Abisinian, Aegyptian Mau), medium sized ones (Chartreux, European Shorthair), and heavy ones (Persian). If you are interested in cat breeds, you can find some additional info at the Internet about: Abisinian, American Bobtail, American Curl, Turkish Angora, Balinese, Bengali, Russian Blue, Bombay, Norwegian Forest, Cornish Rex, Exotic Shorthair, Havana, Javanese, Manx, Munchkin, Ragdoll, Singapore, Pixie Bob, etc. Liliana Aldeguer Cerdán col nº 793 English translation by Sergio Reina Esteban col nº 747

Two Men, Gran Alacant and a Rover 400
Part five and sadly the last part of this story. We hope you have enjoyed the journey with us and if you would like to support Luton at his Plaza internet site run by him. It is called “Chickenwing” and is advertised elsewhere in this magazine.
Well the six year holiday for the Rover 400 was just a hundred or so miles away from ending....never in my wildest dreams when I drove it out all those years ago did I think it would be returning home to England ....to start with the windscreen wipers would need to be fixed (fast) if the car was to survive in the British climate ....when imported to Spain the car was in mint condition but the last six years had taken itʼs tole ..the boot had been broken into smashing the lock and the sun had burnt the top of the dash board and also cracked the speedo lens and a freak hail storm had hammered the cars bodywork (nasty) The horror stories of huge tailbacks at Calais played on our minds and as we closed in on the port we expected huge traffic jams ...but as we got closer it became the apparent that there was nobody there .
We approached British passport control and handed over our passports just in time for my mobile phone play itʼs part (female orgasm) however this time to bloody thing was not to hand..I had packed it in my bag in preparation for boarding the ferry ...both Mike and I frantically tried to shut it up by raining blows on the bag ..this was all too much for Pauline broke out into uncontrollable laughter .....turning round to the passport
66
control booth I was greeted by a less than impressed passport control officer ...handing our passports back she just shook her head from side to side and waved us through ..Mike had been right that bloody ring tone did indeed get us in trouble.
Well having got past one very unhappy passport control officer the ferry awaited... we lined up in row 12 ready to board we were told to line up in row 11 and the little ticket we had been given to put on our rear view mirror also said row 11 but what the hell why start sticking to the rules at this late stage in proceedings ......we boarded and made our way up to the food deck (mistake) 7 euros for a shergar burger in a box ....we decided that for health and safety reasons we would take our fill once back in England. The children loved the ferry though and although frozen stayed on deck in their T shirts and shorts (I did tell them to travel light)
Well we had made it to England and although we had a long journey ahead up to Yorkshire which was dogged with road works (as usual for England) we had the sad task of saying goodbye to Mike ....his Aunt had arranged to pick him up at a junction
of the M25.......Mike was to ring the next day and say that he had indeed had the time of his life (and asked me to message him my ring tone) turns out life for one day without it had proved too much for him ......what a crock I was stuck with the fricken thing he actually wanted it. Back in York and after a quick look by a garage it was decided that life could just not go on for the Rover 400 the cam belt would have to be changed....spark plugs were shot and the tories were in power last time it had an oil change and on top of that there was the funding required to return such an old car to Spain THE ROVER 400 WAS DOOMED
The fact that i am typing chapter nineteen here in my house in Spain with the Rover 400 sat outside is because of a final twist in this story..... "Two Men Gran Alacant And A Rover 400" has a rather large fan base in particular Torrevieja where I receive many private messages and messages on the forum asking when the next chapter will be ready .....well one of these fans and a local business when hearing the poor old Rovers plight helped fund the return of the car ....and there she sits in some Spanish geezers parking spot (now thats pushing it)

After the second successful showing of "On With The Show" The Cardenal Belluga Theatre Group raised another â‚Ź1500 for S.E.M the local ambulance service in La Marina. S.E.M took purchase of a new ambulance in August and the â‚Ź1500 raised in the May Show bought medical equipment which enables broken limbs to be immobilized while traveling.
Maria Mosley presented Jose Maria who represented S.E.M with the cheque.
The group will be starting rehearsals for the Christmas Carol Concerts on 8th November at the Theatre in San Fulgencio. If you are new to the area and would like to join us please phone Maria on 966715891 or for further details email mariamosley3@hotmail.com
