Welcome to our
TEN YEARS magazine Anniversary. Phew.
We are writing this before Christmas, so hope you had a lovely time over the holiday period. This time of the year is so difficult for us and our advertisers, as we need all info by the middle of December to print our January issue, when Christmas is not even here. So thanks to all of you who could help us out. We have, in this edition, provided a free pull out calendar, which includes 2015 holidays . Wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year.

With respect to the temple of Santiago Apostol, the Councillor of Gran Alacant, Loreto Cascales, called for "understanding and tolerance" before the statements on the social networks in relation to the church of Gran Alacant, "a project that has been unfairly criticized, but it does a world of good to many people in the community." Among them, highlighting the sixty children who takes catechism every Sunday morning, "plus all the faithful who go to church." Loreto calls for tolerance from those who do not profess the Catholic religion and consider that the construction of this center of worship has been through municipal funding. "On the contrary," emphatized Cascales, who claimed that "the only thing that the Town Hall has done is give the land to the Church. This land has always been planned for example for any kind of public services, as stipulated by the land-use planning. Some residents of this neighborhood have been outraged by the construction of the church in front of their homes; Loreto Cascales affirms that "at the time they bought their houses they knew that they were situated in front of a tertiary ground. Sooner or later things would be built there. Now there is the church and in the future, more services will be built. What cannot go there is a park or a green area, as some want ". Referring to the park annex, it is the intention of the government team through a grant that has been requested and granted, the carrying out of a fitness area, "which includes the creation of a bike road." As for the construction and costs of the building, "have fallen hundred percent on the Church". Moreover, she insists "not because of the building of this church we have stopped doing things in Gran Alacant". 60 children in Catechesis With the launch of this church, "only the children who are in their first year of catechesis have to travel to downtown Santa Pola". Next year, "they will take their classes here in Gran Alacant. Classes are organized by parents of Vicenta Ruso school". Also would like to thank the parish of Santa Pola for their involvement and their service to the community, "facilitating a large number of people who will not have to go to another place." Loreto Cascales

MONTEMAR BOWLS AND SOCIAL CLUB (Sponsored by Dial Prix)
Welcome to the first report of 2015. Firstly I would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy New Year and hope you all had a very good Christmas. 2014 was a very good year for MonteMar Bowls Club. We had good times, bad times and indifferent times. We had some moans and groan's but overall when you see what is happening in the world we don't have too much to worry about. In May this year we have our 10th Anniversary to celebrate, as soon as I know what is happening I will let you all know. Not much happening at the moment as everything comes to a grinding halt at this time of year. Since the last edition we played La Marina Bowling Club in the annual Super Series, the match is played Home and Away at the same time over a two week period. After the first leg of Rinks and Singles MonteMar held a 14-10 lead. After the second leg of Pairs and Trips MonteMar ran out 28-20 Winners and in doing so retained the Trophy, (see pic Barrie Woodfine with the Trophy) On the 29th & 30th November MonteMar held their annual Australian Pairs Competition. Saturday 29th the sun was out all day, Sunday 30th it tipped it down all day so the Competition was abandoned. All the MonteMar Teams Matadors, Toreadors are both doing very well in their respected Leagues. The Winter League has struggled a bit but I am sure they will improve in the second half of the season. The internal competitions are going well, some are at the semi final stage, I wish everyone who is still in the internals the very best of luck, (unless they are playing me). Every Monday Evening at 20.00 we hold a Quiz night at the El Rincon Restaurant (next to the Bowls Green) every one is welcome to attend. The last Friday in the Month we hold our Dinner Dance at the El Rincon, it is a very good evening and a See thefor Gran Alacanttomap at the chance our Members get together.
The Food and Entertainment is always first class and everyone has a very good night. If you fancy taking up a new Sport, why not give Bowls a go. A chance to meet other people, make new friends and get healthy all at the same time,
Plus tuition is available also Shoes and Woods are available for hire for a small charge. For further information about MonteMar Bowls and Social Club, Please contact Press Officer Brian Zelin 966790606 or visit our Web site at www.montemarbowls.com and at info@montemarbowls.com also on Facebook.

THE STORY OF MURPHY THE CAT
Tel: 966 698 569
50
Liliana Aldeguer Cerdán 793 English translation by Sergio Reina Esteban col 747
Murphy was born on Saturday nd April BB , in the evening. Susana found him and his sister íubbles, immediately after their mother gave them birth and ran away, leaving them at the street. Susana picked them up and took them home. íecause it happened on Saturday evening, all the shops were closed, so Susana fed them with cow milk during the weekend, and the following Monday bought some kitten milk in order to provide them a proper diet.
Fe were introduced the kittens that Monday, and we thought it was ama2ing that feline newborns had survived during the weekend without their mother and having 0ust cow milk and water. It3s eVtremely difficult to raise such a young animal, because it implies feeding it every hours, keeping it warm hypothermia is the most common cause of death at this early ageW, making sure they go to the toilet, because babies are unable to do it on their own, etc. espite the bad prognosis, Susana decided to give the kittens a chance, and it really wasn3t an easy task, because they needed in0ections every day to get rid of the massive accumulations of gas at the stomach and fluid at the lungs which are so common in bottle fed puppies and kittens. 1or that reason Susana and us called them and we still doW zthe Inflatable Cats“. Surprisingly, weeks later, the kittens still survived. íy then, they started to learn to eat solid food successfully, which implied no more feeding bottle, no more swollen stomachs, and, of course, no more daily in0ections. Susana could be proudU she did itX 1rom that moment, they started having the same routine treatments as every normal catU worming, vaccination, and neutering. Fhen he became an adult, Murphy had a best friendU a large
jD kg dog. They used to play together every single day. After j years living with Susana, the dog and his owners moved to other urbani2ation. Murphy got sad, because he had lost his best friend. íut, a few days later, the dog and his owners visited Susana, and Murphy decided to follow them to their new home, and stayed there. Susana got desperate since she was unable to find Murphy, so she eVposed her case with some Murphy3s picsW at 1acebook. Shortly after, a friend of her replied zI think that cat is living at my parents homeX“. The matter was clear nowU Murphy escaped Susana3s home to live with his friend the dog. Susana went to her eV:neighbors home to recover the cat, but Murphy didn3t want to stay at his previous owner home anymoreU when he had the chance he escaped and returned quickly to his best friend home. Oe did it j times, and the last time didn3t allow Susana to catch him, so Murphy started a semi:wild life close to his friend the dog. íut one day, the dog3s owners decided to go back to the (’, but Murphy remained at the urbani2ation. Susana tried to catch him several times, but Murphy had taken a decisionU he would live at the urbani2ation where his friend used to live with their owners in Spain. Fe have a feline client, named Murphy, which is not owned by a person, couple or family, but by all the residents in an urbani2ation, who feed him and share his medical eVpenses. Fe call him zMurphy Neighborhood Association“. This morning Susana has
come to our practice to have her other pets checked. She asked z o you remember Murphy/ I still see him at the urbani2ation. Oe is really big. I hope everything is ”’ with himZ“ And then we reali2ed zMurphy Neighborhood Associa: tion“ and zMurphy the Inflatable Cat“ were the same animalXX ust to make sure we asked Susana zAre you talking about the urbani2ation in street/“ z4es“, she said. So, we repliedU zwell, you can stop worrying about him, because he is in good hands. Every time he has had a problem, the neighbors of the urbani2ation have brought him to our practice. They all look after him“. 1or some reason they knew his name is Murphy, but they ignored why he started living at the urbani2ation. Oe is a nice cat and shares his time with all the neighbors at the urbani2ation. Everybody loves him. So Murphy chose the life he wanted to live, which confirms what we always sayU cats choose their owners, friends at home. Murphy is 0ust one more case. NeVt time Murphy is coming to our practice, we will give the neighbors his vaccination book Susana kept it at homeW, which shows all the times Susana had him inoculated this has probably given Murphy an optimal immunity for surviving ”’ outdoors, despite he never had maternal milk antibodies, and of course the fact that Susana had him neutered, stopped him to get in troubles outdoorsW.

WHAT’S THAT? IN THE CLOT?
by Mark Etheridge
A New Year, and your resolution should be to get out and about in the countryside, work off those extra pounds (or kilos if you prefer the lower numbers) caused by your Christmas excesses, and see one of the finest sights that winter Spanish birding has to offer. A flock of Common Cranes (Grulla or Grua Común in Spanish), as seen in my picture, cannot be mistaken for anything else. As well as the extraordinary sight of such large birds flying in close formation – unlike the Grey Heron which I showed you last month, which is always alone – you will be deafened (if you are close enough) by the loud honking which these birds are always making, and you will hear this extraordinary sound from quite some distance away too. Anything which sounds like a badly-played bugle is bound to cause you to wonder what can be making that dreadful racket, and this is it! I have seen a small flock of Cranes pass over the Clot, but as they prefer to feed on cultivated land the best place to look for them is to the West of La Marina – just take one of the many side roads or farm tracks in this area and watch out for them in the fields on either side. Like the Heron, they will eat just about anything, but at this time of the year they specialise in vegetable matter. It is only when they are breeding in Northern Europe and Russia that they need the extra calories from small animals and insects, to keep themselves in good breeding condition and bring up their young. Most of these northern birds fly to Africa for the winter, but a significant number overwinter in our area. These birds are not particularly endangered worldwide, but they disappeared from the UK about 400 years ago as a result of habitat destruction and hunting. There is however a breeding programme taking place in the Somerset Levels which aims to release up to 100 birds by the end of this year, and establish a viable British population, look for “The Great Crane Project” online for more information. In addition to this, one or two completely wild birds have nested in Norfolk and other eastern counties, so the future is looking good for these amazing birds. But you don’t have to hunt around in cold, damp Britain, they are almost on your doorstep here on the Costa Blanca and for the next few months you can see them fairly easily on a morning’s drive and regale your friends over your tapas and cerveza how you thought you were hearing the worst Spanish Brass Band ever, but when you looked you saw these marvellous birds! For more photos of birds and other wildlife in our area, you can visit my site at http://marketheridge.smugmug.com/ See you next month.
