A personal message from the Councillor for Gran Alacant ...

I would like to address everyone here in our community of Gran Alacant. We find ourselves in a unique situation. It is very difficult indeed, but surely together we understand that the only way to stop the spread of this virus is by social isolation. We must understand this clearly, and we have to stay at home. Santa Pola, and Gran Alacant, will I am sure, make this effort - this sacrifice. If not for yourself, then for your relatives and your neighbours. The police are carrying out their duty to enforce the national government’s emergency regulations. I ask again, for the good of our community - please stay in your home. You can find more information and updates on the website of the local council. My thoughts are with you in these most difficult of times. Oscar Valenzuela, Gran Alacant Councillor

Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, declaring the state of alarm for the management of the health crisis situation caused by COVID-19. Article 7. Limitation of the freedom of movement of people. 1. During the duration of the state of alarm, people may only use public roads to carry out the following activities: a) Buying food, pharmaceuticals and basic necessities b) Travel to health centres c) Travel to the workplace d) Return home e) Assistance and care for the elderly, minors, dependents, people with disabilities or especially vulnerable people. However, please note tha special authorization (police check) is required if you wish to help other people in your community - apply at the police station. f) Travel to financial and insurance offices g) If requested to do so by authorities h) Any other activity of a similar nature that must be done individually, unless accompanied by people with disabilities or for other justified cause 2. Likewise, private vehicles are only allowed on public roads to carry out the activities referred to in the previous section or to refuel at gas or service stations. 3. In any case, during a State of Alarm, the recommendations and obligations dictated by the health authorities must be respected.

ENFORCEMENT OF THE STATE OF ALARM In order to ensure that people are complying with the State of Alarm rules, there will now be a major clampdown. The deputy leader of the Policia Nacional said: “The first two or three days of the royal decree were a period of adjustment, of warnings and informing people, but we believe that period has come to an end. The time has come to implement fully the state of alarm.” The deputy of the Guardia Civil, Lieutenant General Laurentino Ceña, also warned that the armed police force would be extra vigilant on roads, particularly this weekend, in a bid to stop people retreating to their second homes. There have already been dozens of arrests across Spain for violations of the movement restrictions as well as thousands of fines, most of them less than 600 euros but with the higher echelons being 30,000 euros. However police expect the arrest numbers to rise in the next few days.

DRIVING OTHER PEOPLE Recently publications have been circulating on social media saying that it is possible to take a friend or family member to the airport. However, this is not allowed. The Alarm State means that all the permitted tasks must be done individually, unless accompanying an incapacitated person or for some other justifiable reason. You can drive yourself and leave the car at the airport, or use public buses or taxis.

CORONAVIRUS

www.familydoctors24h.com info@familydoctors24h.com in the city of Wuhan (China). Since then, the number of those infected by the virus has been continuously increasing and its transmission from person to person has accelerated. Wuhan's reported cases of pneumonia already far exceed those of the SARS epidemic, but the case fatality rate is lower.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that normally only affect animals but can also infect people. Their symptoms range from the common cold to more serious illnesses, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV), and the coronavirus causing Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS-CoV) The new coronavirus is called SARS-CoV-2, and the disease that causes SARS-CoV-2 is called COVID-19. COVID-19: In late December 2019, the first cases of a new coronavirus were reported

The most common symptoms include fever, cough, and feeling short of breath. In some cases there may also be symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal pain. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe difficulty breathing, kidney failure, and even death. The most serious cases generally occur in people of advanced age or who suffer from some other disease such as heart, lung or immunity problems and those with lowered body defenses.

How is COVID-19 spread?

Like other infections caused by similar viruses, transmission is through close contact with respiratory secretions generated by a sick person's cough or sneeze. These secretions infect another person if they come in contact with their eyes nose or mouth.

Also if an infected person touches his nose, mouth or eyes, and subsequently touches a surface, the virus stays on that surface for hours.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE COVID-19

• If you have a fever / low fever in addition to a cough, do not leave home for 14 days • Drink water, take Paracetamol and rest to relieve symptoms • Watch your symptoms and do not go to the emergency room

When should I call 112?

If, in addition to cough and fever, any of the following symptoms appear: • Difficulty breathing • Diarrhea / vomiting • Major discomfort

KEEP CALM What can I do to protect myself?

Generic individual measures of protection against respiratory diseases include frequent hand hygiene (washing with soap and water or alcoholic solutions), especially after direct contact with sick people or their environment; avoid close contact with people who show signs of a respiratory condition, such as a cough or sneeze; keep a distance of approximately one meter with people who have symptoms of acute respiratory infection; Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue if you need to cough or sneeze and wash your hands. These measures, also protect against other illnesses like the flu. At this time in Spain there is an increase in cases of coronavirus infections, which has led the authorities to take measures such as limiting freedom of movement (staying at home) to protect the population from contagion. You should also avoid being at distances of less than a meter with other people and gatherings are banned.

1.Call the emergency number for your community (Valencian Community +34 900 300 555) Stay calm since in COVID-19 does not cause acute or sudden respiratory distress. The feeling of shortness of breath usually appears little by little and you will be seen in time. 2. If you cannot contact them, go to the emergency room with a mask. What will happen in the emergency room? • You have to know that not all patients are tested for coronavirus. • They will assess your case and decide if it's worth doing an x-ray and blood tests. Depending on the results, you will go home, or stay in the hospital under observation. What is home isolation if I have COVID19? • You stay in a room for individual use, well ventilated and with the door closed • Use an exclusive bathroom if possible

• Communicate with family members by phone. • Wash your hands frequently • Clothes should be washed separately, and be collected in a sealed bag • If you need to leave the room, you need to wear a surgical mask • Avoid contact with the elderly, pregnant women or those with chronic diseases • Wash dishes and cutlery separately • Disinfect surfaces with bleach diluted with water

Most cases of COVID19 have a good outcome. If you want more information, visit the official pages of the Spanish Ministry of Health. Remember that the most important thing for the reduction of infections is prevention. Hand washing, do not touch your face,

avoid public places and avoid close contact with people who may be sick. Avoid travel if it is not strictly necessary and follow the recommendations of the authorities.

International Practicioner of Holistic Medicine, fully licensed & insured FINDING A LITTLE INNER PEACE Hi all, welcome to this special edition online issue … we are just faced with what can only be described as the most surreal event of our lifetimes and we can only hope it doesn’t happen again, our country and a lot more around the globe completely shut down due to the pandemic that spread over the world. I completely appreciate people worrying where they are high risk, but whilst worrying can also add to our immune system breakdowns … and for those who have very little or no immune systems due to chronic illness then I just pray you are sat reading my blog this month… I have been sending Reiki daily to each and every single one of you. What I personally have learned during this time is the togetherness it has actually brought upon us as a community, without the ability to be in each other’s company we can only be thankful for telephones and internet which has helped us raise the spirit on our darkest days. I did try my hardest to stay away from the negative side of social media yet some days I felt drawn into the ignorance that I didn’t want to partake in but found myself joining in on some occasion, that alone was a valuable lesson for me, one that I know that I don’t want to be a part of in my future and had to learn a lot of self-control that I thought I already had, but clearly we all have lots to learn. So whilst the world was full of experts and specialists on the media sites, does it not teach us that none of us are experts or specialists, that

we all have a lot to learn, that it doesn’t really matter what certificate or PhD for that matter you may hold, does it actually mean anything at all if you promote an unkind manner in your life. Kindness is far more valuable than any degree, or certificate, kindness spreads so much further than the arrogance of know it all’s. If you are not doing your job or living your life with your whole heart and displaying a kindness to your existing earth walkers, I suggest you start now. The community where we live in have witnessed so much respect for one another during this period and that made my heart sing on the days when I could have strung up my kids quite easily. Yes, we had to act with complete caution, and we did with nothing but respect for one another, and mother nature had time to heal a little.

So, what happens if you are still worrying about leaving the house? When we feed worry to ourselves frequently our subconscious mind starts thinking this is a “normal” action and before we know it anxiety has kicked in and completely taken over. The saying “mind over matter” could not be truer than just your typical “quote” our minds thoughts become our brain/bodies matter, regardless of what age/stage/illness we are experiencing our mind is amazingly powerful. As Dr. Joe Dispenza says “we are riding on the back of a giant…and it’s a free ride” our minds are so powerful, the thoughts we feed it changes the body and its reaction to things. When anxiety kicks in our bodies natural fight or flight mode takes over…choose your thoughts wisely. Your thoughts become things, and the society that we are accustomed to playing a part in is managing to control a huge amount of people’s thoughts… Little things can make a big impact: • Spend less time on social media, enjoy real life more • Stop reading newspapers as soon as you wake up in the morning and watching the news before you sleep, this sends lots of negative signals at the most critical times of the day • Keep a regular bedtime routine • Do a little daily exercise, however little it is • Wake up everyday with 3 things to be grateful for • Smile • Learn simple breathing techniques, if you want to know some simple ones email me and I will happily teach you my “magic 3”

Know the difference between the fact and the limiting belief. Facts cannot be argued with, limiting beliefs (what your anxiety feeds you) can. So, the good news is, limiting beliefs can be changed and you gain your control. If you like to read some self-help books, I cannot recommend Dr. Joe Dispenza Evolve the Brain (the science of changing your mind) enough! It can be quite deep when he talks about the quantum physics and the different parts of the brain, filled with scientific facts from one of my most favourite teachers. If you don’t like to read, it is available on audible and if you don’t have audible I will happily send you it free as you don’t need to sign up but can get a free recommendation to listen to. So, let me know and I will happily send it your way. It will change your life. You can even get Alexa reading it to you whilst you cook. And please remember FREE consultations as always at The Reiki Room Mind Clinic for any little unwanted behaviours you may have. Contact me for any info. Special offers on holistic treatments will be available when the times comes to be opened again.

CORONAVIRUS AND PETS (WSAVA RECOMMENDATIONS) OPEN: Monday - Friday 10:00 -13:00 & 17:00 - 20:00 Saturday 10:00 -13:00 No grooming service during the quarantine Calle Holanda 9, MASA Square, Gran Alacant live animal wet market in Wuhan. So far, the animal species from which 2019nCoV “jumped” hasn’t been identified. Common coronaviruses which infect dogs and cats (producing a normally non-lethal diarrhoea in dogs and the fatal Feline Peritonitis in cats), DON’T belong to the same family of 2019-nCoV, and are not transmissible to people.

Due to the pneumonia outbreak in China, caused by a coronavirus called 2019nCoV, WSAVA (World Small Animals Vets Association) has published an advisory document for its members, which is intended to answer some questions professionals and pets owners may ask about this health problem. The outbreak started in December 2019, initially in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and a short time later, person-to-person transmission was confirmed. The exact source of the outbreak is still not known, but it is supposed to be linked to Huanan South China Seafood Market, a seafood and

Can 2019-nCoV infect domestic animals? Currently there is no evidence that pets or other domestic animals can be infected with 2019-nCoV, and, besides, there is no evidence that pets can be a source of transmission of the virus to people. Should I avoid contact with pets or other animals if I’m sick? Do not handle pets or other animals when sick. Although there hasn’t been reports of animals infected with 2019-nCoV, there are some other respiratory coronaviruses that may be transmitted and spread from people to animals, so, as a precaution, is a good idea to wear a facemask when handling animals if you are sick.

What should I do if my pet or other animal becomes ill and was around a person with 2019-nCoV? If your pet or other animal becomes ill, call your veterinarian to let them know you are bringing a sick pet that was exposed to a person with 2019-nCoV. Do not take the animal to the practice until you have had a discussion with clinic staff. Tell them about any contact the animal may have had with someone infected with 2019-nCoV. If my pet or other animal has been in contact with somebody who is sick, can they spread the disease to other people? We do not yet know if animals can get infected. We also don’t know if they can get sick from 2019-nCoV. So far, there is no evidence pets or other domestic animals can be a source of infection for people. What are the concerns regarding pets that have been in contact with people infected with the virus? While the virus is supposed to have emerged from an animal source, at this moment is spreading only person-to-person, mainly via respiratory droplets which are sprayed when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Once again there is no data or date that dogs or

cats become infected with 2019-nCoV. What should be done with animals in areas where the virus is active? Despite there have not been reports of pets or other animals getting infected with 2019nCoV, since there are some other kinds of respiratory coronaviruses that may spread and be transmitted from animals to people and vice versa, till we know more about this specific virus, avoid contact with animals and wear a facemask if you must be around animals or care for a pet. The same way, people diagnosed with 2019-nCoV should stay away from animals in order to avoid the hypothetic risk of transmission to animals, as a precaution. Should veterinarians start vaccinating dogs against canine coronavirus because of the 2019-nCoV? There are some coronavirus vaccines for dogs available at the market, but they are supposed to protect against digestive coronaviruses, not against respiratory ones, and as far as we know, there is no evidence of cross-protection against respiratory infections, so in this case the vaccine would make no difference.

Animals as Teachers By Jemma “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged in the way in which it treats its animals”. Gandhi We have our memories of bird flu, awful foot and mouth , and the mad cow disease that most likely started by feeding animals food made of themselves.

Everyone and everything is facing their own challenges at this time. One positive outcome is that it can be a time to reflect and contemplate ourselves and the world we live in. We maybe can pause to think of our own impact in the world and whether it is time to make changes such as using less water, ( if it’s yellow let it mellow , if it’s brown flush it down) consuming less, recycling more, buying organic if you can, using ecological products, eating less meat… It seems that this is especially a time to reflect on the animals and living things that dwell with us on this planet, and to refresh our connection. As we know the potential start of this virus was the eating of all manner of raw animals and insects, and of keeping live and dead animals in close proximity.

I was permitted to go help feed the horses the day I wrote this where once again they are standing in water and mud, and it was raining AGAIN. As I got soaked and muddy helping feed 120 animals with hay and individual feeds, and the drive back in pouring rain seeing not a car in sight, I couldn’t

stop the tears flowing and the words of the Pink Floyd song , a different time, a different situation… what have we done?… somebody shout, someone scream, what happened to the dream?

If you can in any way help please visit the Facebook pages Easy Horse Care Centre, and Sat sociedad protectora para animales, or any of the many other rescue centres. In brighter times maybe you might think about taking in a rescue animal to join you in your home. ,my two dogs and cats have literally kept me sane over this period. I leave with part of the peace prayer, often attributed to St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Animals but most likely not his words, though very apt for these times... Make me an instrument of thy peace Where there is hatred let me sow love Where there is offence, pardon Where there is discord, harmony Where there is error, truth Where there is doubt , faith Where there is despair, hope and Where there is darkness, light. Namaste Jemma x

As the shut down businesses so sadly and desperately affect so many people and their livelihoods, we can, maybe, as well take a moment to reflect on the fact that the charity shops support the livelihoods of the animals that they are run for, and hence money for food for them will soon become a real concern. With SAT kennels closed, the dogs are like us in enforced isolation … At Easy Horse Care Centre over 120 horses and donkeys still need to be fed and watered, and with all their charity shops closed and Open Days cancelled we can only pray on the goodwill and support of friends, community and the wider public.
