A big edition of our publication for July, with lots of news and pictures, including the Street Party, Darts Cup Presentations, Santa Pola bikes. Don’t forget, many more pictures uploaded to our website. As you may know, we deliver magazines to most of our advertisers, which of course change monthly. We top up copies during the month at three locations (see below) and our internet edition is uploaded on the first of every month, without fail, giving your advertising its full months viewing. We at your Gran Alacant Advertiser continue to bring you all of the news, including that from our Gran Alacant Councillor, Loreto Cascales, as we have since May 2005. It is our perogative at the magazine, NOT to update this 2005 picture, as we all looked a great deal younger!!! The main topic we would like to discuss this month, is the taxi situation on Gran Alacant.

After the recent elections which kept the PP Party in office, we were keen to speak with the new Councillor who was to be in charge of the department that included our taxi service. Loreto has fixed a meeting with herself, the new Councillor, Antonio PĂŠrez Huerto, and us. Antoniaâ&#x20AC;&#x2DC;s responsibilities include police and traffic. We have a series of questions to ask, which are as follows:-

1.My friend called the Taxi service on the number printed in your Magazine & the Taxi came from Santa Pola & were charged the extra for the taxi to come from Santa Pola. Surley this is not right they should have been told this when they ordered a taxi if there was not one available in G/A. If anyone does ring ask where the Taxi will come from! 2. A taxi followed my friend to the airport from Gran Alacant. The taxi passenger photographed him as he drove to the airport with his friends and also when he was unloading the bags at the airport. Is this allowed or is it intimidation. 3. At the taxi rank outside Lidl, could the phone number for the taxis be put on their taxi sign. 4. What languages are used when you ring for a taxi. We know we are in Spain, but so many holiday makers to our urbanisation, do not speak the local language.

5. Do the taxis operate through the night 6. Is there a Taxi leaflet with prices 7. Can we take Mum and Dad, family, friends, UNPAID to the airport Hopefully answers in next months magazine!!

A new elected Councillor is Francisco Javier Martin Molina, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Pacoâ&#x20AC;?, who many of you know from the local doctors surgery. His duties as a Councillor on Gran Alacant, will include the new sports hall, youth and environment for the Santa Pola area.

When the very popular Gran Alacant and Santa Pola Theatre Group (GASP) heard of the plight of the people of Lorca following the recent earthquake in the city, they decided that they had to do something to try to help. They realised that the earthquake was in such close proximity that it could so easily have happened to them, so focused their minds on

from Millwall F.C. was at the Bar Ocean 11 on Gran Alacant during the weekend of the big street party. He signed autographs and posed for pictures during his time with us. Pictures here of him and Lee Eldridge from Finsbury International on stage at the street party and both of them with Kevin, the owner of Ocean 11 where the weekend signing events took place. We must add that Darren was a very nice lad and he was very impressed with Gran Alacant.

We have all noticed a big upturn in people scrapping through all of our local bins and taking away any items worth money. They are also going through the paper bins. Are they looking for paperwork with bank details etc? Loreto is going to mention

it to the local police. We would like to welcome Loreto and her family to their new house in Gran Alacant and are sure she will enjoy being here fulltime with us all.

This is the time of the year for breakins to your property. Keep your gates locked and also your doors or grills if you are upstairs, you never know who may be watching! Many instances are being reported to us.

Also: from annonymous I was in Lidls on Thursday 16th June, when I noticed two men acting oddly. They were aged in their early twenties (Romanian). I kept an eye on them and found them near a lady opposite the meat fridges. One of them was asking her to help him get something down from the shelf, the other was waiting for the lady to take her hand off her handbag when he noticed me watching him and he confronted me.

The lady walked off when she noticed something odd. The two men then dumped their items by the till and left without buying anything. I asked her if she had lost anything and she told me that her friend had been robbed last week the same way this alerted her to what was going on. This seems to be a common occurance, so watch out!!!!!!!!!

The Gran Alacant Fiestas start on Thursday 21st July and continue through Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd, and Sunday 24th. All events will take place on the car park opposite the Council Offices. There will be live music, dancing, and plenty for the kids. We have seen the provisional list of events so should be well worth a watch, for free!!!!!! Congratulations What a show, what a days entertainment, for the victims of the Lorca earthquake and the people effected by the Japan Tsunami Army. So many good people gave their time to this worthwhile cause. Thanks going to all of the businesses that took part, Ocean 11, Aquarius, Agostino, Sandhills, Absolutely Fabulous, Phoenix, Sunset Bar, OʼDuills, Casanova, and particuarly to the main organisers, Los Belgas, Alan Swoffer and Hispania.

All of the entertainers gave their time for free and we include pictures of them all, on the page opposite, and thank them for being such kind, caring, people and thank them all for such a wonderful show. Nigel Weeks from “Night out promotions” was on the sound system all through the show, again giving his time for free.

The weather was typical Spain and the vast crowd of all nationalities, mixed, sang, danced, ate and drank and spent their euros to help the coffers, and not a bit of trouble in site. Most of the show was relayed live by TKO radio and on hand as among other things, changing facilities for the entertainers, was the executive bus supplied by PubliBus Cmp.

The bottom picture on the page opposite, includes Mari Augeles a Lady who went through the Lorca nightmare. She explained to the crowds, the trauma it has caused to young and old, and how much they appreciate this help from the people of Gran Alacant.

El tópico principal que queremos discutir este mes es la situación de los taxis en Gran Alacant.

Después de las recientes elecciones, teníamos ganas de hablar con el nuevo concejal que está tratando con el departamento del servicio de taxis. Loreto ha convocado una reunión con el nuevo concejal, Antonio Pérez Huerto y nosotros. Las responsabilidades de Antonio incluyen policía y tráfico.

Teníamos una serie de preguntas:

1. Mi amigo llamó al número que aparece en la Revista y al venir el taxi desde Santa Pola, se le cobró de más. Esto no está bien, si no hay ningún taxi disponible en G.A, deberían informar sobre la tarifa extra (al venir desde Santa Pola). En fin, si alguien llama, preguntad desde dónde viene el taxi para que no os pase esto.

2. Un taxi siguió a mi amigo desde el aeropuerto desde Gran Alacant. El pasajero del taxi lo fotografió mientras conducía al aeropuerto con sus amigos y también cuando estaba bajando las maletas en el aeropuerto. ¿Esto está permitido o es intimidación?

3. En la parada de taxis de afuera del Lidl, ¿podrían poner el número de teléfono en su señal de parada?

4. ¿En qué idioma nos pueden atender? Sabemos que estamos en España, pero hay muchos turistas en nuestras urbanizaciones que no hablan español. 5. Estos taxis, ¿están de servicio por

Na de recente verkiezingen, waren we gebrand o meen gesprek te hebben met de nieuwe wethouder die instaat voor de taxi service .

Loreto heeft een ontmoeting met de nieuwe wethouder geregeld, zijn naam is Antonio Perez Huerto, Antonio is onder andere verantwoordelijk voor politie en het verkeer.

We hebben een aantal vragen aan hem gesteld,

1.Mijn vriend belde de taxi service op het nummer gedrukt in je Magazine , de taxi kwam van Santa Pola er werdt extra aangerekend omdat de taxi van Santa Pola moest komen.

2. Als je een taxi neemt ,en je neemt fotos van de rit en chauffeur is dit toegelaten ¿

3. Bij de taxi standplaats buiten Lidl, kaner een telefoonnummer worden geplaatst zo dat mensen een taxi kunnen bellen.

4. Welke talen worden eer gebruikt wanneer u een taxi belt . We weten dat we in Spanje verblijven , maar veel van de vakantiegangers spreekt de taal niet. 5. Rijden e rook taxis heel de nacht

Muchos de vosotros habéis estado preguntando sobre el nuevo servicio de bus de G.A. a Elche. Estamos reuniéndonos con los responsables, vamos a intentar que la información esté en esta edición. Cuando el Grupo de Teatro de Gran Alacant y Santa Pola (GASP) se enteró de la situación de los habitantes de Lorca, decidieron que tenían que hacer algo para ayudar. Se dieron cuenta de que el terremoto fue muy próximo a esta zona, y que lo mismo les podría haber pasado a ellos. Después de mucha deliberación y habiendo leído un artículo sobre Lorca, el tesorero de GASP Chris Rooke se puso en contacto con Iain Bennett, presidente de Torrevieja Costa Lions. Club, para ofrecer su apoyo para las ayudas a Lorca. Iain visitó a GASP en su lugar de reunión en el Life Resort en Gran Alacant y estaba encantado de recibir la cantidad de 300€ de Chris. Iain bezocht GASP op hun gewone vergadering plaats in het Life Resort in Gran Alacant en was zeer verheugd om de som van 300,00 euro te kunnen ontvangen van Chris. Parece que tenemos una colección de coches abandonados en Gran Alacant, dos más han sido denunciados a la policía local.

No tenemos una fecha específica para la apertura del polideportivo. Hemos entrado para tomar algunas fotos, hay una nueva entrada, zona de petanca, una pista cerrada de fútbol, badminton y baloncesto, pistas de tenis, área de pádel… El jugador de fútbol profesional Darren Ward de Millwall F.C. estuvo en el Bar Ocean 11 en Gran Alacant durante el fin de semana de la fiesta de la calle. Estuvo firmando autógrafos y sacándose fotos. Podéis ver fotos de él y Lee Finsbury (de Finsbury Internacional) y con Kevin el dueño de Ocean 11 en el escenario. Tenemos que añadir que Darren estuvo muy simpático y muy impresionado con Gran Alacant.

Hemos visto que últimamente hay personas sacando cosas de las basuras y llevándose objetos de algún valor económico. También están sacando cosas de los contenedores de papel. ¿Están buscando papeles que tengan detalles de cuentas bancarias? Loreto se lo va a mencionar a la policía. Nos gustaría dar la bienvenida a Loreto y a su familia a su nueva casa en Gran Alacant y estamos seguros de que van a disfrutar de su estancia aquí.

Professioneel voetballer Darren Ward van Millwall FC was aanwezig in Ocean 11 op Gran Alacant tijdens het weekend van het straat feest. Hij tekende handtekeningen en poseerde voor foto's tijdens zijn verblijf . Foto's hier van hem en Lee Finsbury van Finsbury International op het podium van het straatfeest en beiden met Kevin, de eigenaar van Ocean 11, waar in het weekend de ondertekening plaatsvond. We moeten toevoegen dat Darren een erg aardige jongen was en hij zeer onder de indruk was van Gran Alacant.

Our priorities are education, health and social-economic development. As well as international cooperation, Icnelia develops local awareness projects, translating to our society the lifestyle and the problems of the developing countries. In this 5 years Icnelia has built four schools in small communities in the Nicaraguan tropic jungle, very separated from the city and with very bad conditions of communication, they only can arrive there crossing the rivers and the jungle on mules. It is very difficult, but our challenge is to carry our help where nobody goes. Another one of our programs is called “Solidary Physiotherapists”, we bring those professionals the opportunity to be volunteers in Nicaragua teaching their colleagues and medicine students, and to work with the patients in the hospital. We also work forming teachers, bringing new technologies, helping disabled people, solidary tourism, etc.

Paco is a small dog, he weighs approx. 10 kilos. Before he was rescued he was being fed by local people and sleeping under a car on the road, alongside his brother. At first he was a frightened little dog but now he is in a foster home he is relaxed with people and has regained his confidence. Paco is approx 1 year.

This dog strolled through the gates of a friendâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s finca. He was starving and covered in tics and fleas. He is a happy little chappie, approx 1 year and weighs just 7 kilos. We have named him Benji, he has been neutered and vaccinated.

These three cross Jack Russell pups were brought into our charity shop by a distraught couple on holiday that had found them in a box by the side of the road. They are approx 16 weeks and ready for adoption.

This beautiful long haired cat was found in a plastic bag on a roundabout, also in the bag were her 5 three week old kittens! The mother we have named Beauty is just one year old, she has a long bushy tail and loves a cuddle. She is taking very good care if her kittens. Beauty and the kittens are available for adoption.

Hello to everybody! Just a few words to let you know what is going to happen this month in Santa Pola and its surroundings. To start Santa Pola’s Town Hall offers its cultural programme for all tastes. VI Full Moon Dinner, on Saturday the 15 of July. Organized by Asoc.of neighbours of les Caletes de Santa Pola del Este. Apart from all this, on the 16th the fishermen celebrate their mayor fiestas, “Our Lady of Carmen” in the evening there is a religious procession and later a display of fire works on the Levante Beach is held. On the 10thnd will take place the XVI swimming crossing Tabarca-Santa Pola, a real adventure for the 850 swimmers taking part on it, this swimming crossing has become the most popular in Spain, there isn’t any other swimming crossing like this one, so long 6000 mts. and with so many swimmers in open waters. In the surroundings plenty of parades, as you know it is not possible to give the exact dates but the approximate dates are as follows:

THE CASE OF THE “LOST” MICROCHIP, FINAL ACT

A few weeks ago, I had this mail from these poor people, describing the more-or-less happy end of their oddisey with and DEFRA: Hallo Sergio & Liliana Good to hear from you & to read "part 2". Wed April 13th was the 2nd sailing date.

I did have every faith in what you'd given us - Xray, certificate, photo of Barney's shoulder blade showing the correct microchip no, even an email from Br Ferries in the UK, saying with all your evidence we'd almost certainly (but not definitely !!) be able to embark, but I still had a funny feeling in side me.....I was just relieved it wasn't Friday the 13th, as I'm very superstitious... also, we did have our own small scanner, that I'd had to fly to the UK to buy AND which was recommended by DEFRA !!!!!. We'd tried it out on Barney many times, but no sound!! We tried it on several dogs in our Urban'n - it found all their chips fine!! Once or twice, it did find Barney's chip, but very random. When we got to Santander, we showed the passport, the BR F lady put the 1st scanner on him....nothing. A 2nd one was brought out.....nothing, then a 3rd....you've guessed...nothing ! Also, our own scanner didn't work. Meanwhile, the BR F man appeared & said "Oh no, not you again!!!!....um, let me see.." The 2 "officials" went inside their hut to discuss the problem, armed with all your evidence. Then a very friendly, helpful fellow passenger, in the queue behind us, got out of his van. (On the side of his van, "Pet Carriers UK") He knew our problem straight away & brought out 2 of his own scanners for us to try. Of course, neither found the chip, but out of curiosity, we offered him our own scanner to check his 6 dogs - it worked 6 times!!!!!

After about 20 mins and a very long queue building up behind us, the 2 officials emerged & the man took my partner **** into the BR F building, to talk with the top man!!!!! Again, much questioning of ****, then back they came, **** with a big smile & "thumbs up" - the ordeal, worry & expense of 3 weeks was over !

As the car started to climb the gangplank onto the ferry, the BR F man could not resist calling out "Make sure you get that suspect microchip removed from his body & a decent one implanted....that is, if he has a chip........ ready for your next crossing to UK"! I don't think there will be a next time, as my nerves (& bank account!)won't stand it !!!

So," all's well that ends well", as the English saying goes !!!

Barney has lost a little weight, due to all the running & chasing his ball in a nice temperature 18 deg mainly. He loves eating all the grass & the space in my big garden, where he can run behind bushes, roll around, etc etc. Many thanks again
