EDITOR’S LETTER
Welcome to our Confidence issue most brides) is it? Being the centre of attention, being the most important person in the room (what groom?!) and knowing that all aspects of your day will be commented on and poured over is hard. Some girls love it and embrace that special feeling, but for others it’s daunting posing for endless pics, it’s scary having the confidence to choose the dress, and virtually impossible to stay sane when the frenzy kicks in. Well, we are here to help and to let you know you are not the only one stressing! From calming those nerves to reassuring you about ‘the one’, we have touched on all aspects of wedding planning and the big day. Smile it’s all under control!

“I adore this beautiful tousled look. It’s so relaxed, yet glamorous and really complements the style of the dress and floral crown. To create thiss style, I blow-dried the hair using a heat protection spray forr texture and hold. I then curled the hair to create movement, applying a small amountt of hairspray on each section n, and then pinned the currl to set. When cool, I shook out the curls and lightly brushed through for that loose, tousle ed effect. To complete the lo ook, I used a shine spray to tame any frizz for that extra glam m touch.”

GUEST LIST
MARIE MCKEEVER Who? Marie is the Head of Training for Clarins UK. Her top bridal make-up tip? “Always book in a trial run of your final make-up look with your artist prior to your wedding day, and test it in front of a camera. This way, there are no surprises when you receive your wedding snaps.” For more of Marie’s tips, turn to p153.
CLAIRE PETTIBONE Who? LA-based acclaimed designer of jaw-droppingly gorgeous gowns. Her best advice for couples is to stay true to yourselves. “It can sometimes get stressful with everyone offering unsolicited advice and opinions, but you’ll be happiest in the end if you design your day in a way that feels right for you.” Read our interview with Claire on p100.
HATTIE MAULEVERERJONES Who? Founder of Top Hat Catering, working on private events for the likes of Jimmy Choo and Hobbs. Her top wedding-breakfast tip? “Have a palate cleanser between the main course and pudding. A Gin and Tonic Granita always goes down well.” Hattie answers more questions in Wedding SOS on p153.
HANNAH MCCLUNE Who? Award-winning wedding photographer. Her favourite wedding theme is a delicate botanical style. “A wild bouquet, pretty blooms decorating chairs, fresh flowers in your hair and a tablescape full of greenery is beautiful.” Hannah worked on the styled shoot on p204.

The key is to focus on ow amazing it made you feel when you first tried it – there’s a reason it outshone the competition. Even if you’re not convinced when you collect it, remember it’s hard to know exactly how great it looks until the day itself when you have all your accessories, amazing hair and makeup and that new ‘Mrs’ glow! 66

I’m freaking out about our ever-expanding wedding budget – help! Budget stresses can suck all the fun out of planning, so take back control with a good old-fashioned spreadsheet. Work out exactly what you still need to pay for and what you have left to spend, then decide on your top priorities – these are the places where you need to focus your remaining budget. Don’t make any snap decisions on even small purchases and categorise everything as either ‘must-have’ or ‘would like to have’ so you can prioritise essentials.
Y
NO STRESS!
I’M SCARED AN ONGOING FAMILY FEUD WILL ERUPT AT OUR RECEPTION
3
If there’s a chance your guests will get a bit EastEnders after a few wines, put the offending parties as far apart as possible on your table plan and instruct a few neutral friends or family members to diffuse any potentially tricky situations. If it’s causing you major stress, get everybody together before the big day to discuss the situation, and don’t be afraid to revoke invites – your big day is definitely not the place for warring parties to air their grievances.
ve Yes – we ha ed totally nailng this weddi business!

I can’t stop worrying about the weather – what if it ruins the day? No bride wants rain, but it’ll take more than a downpour to spoil the best day ever! Buy some oversized umbrellas in case the worst happens, and make sure your ushers have them to hand. If being outdoors is central to any part of your wedding, double-check your venue has contingency plans and inside alternatives you’re happy with. Oh, and step away from the weather app – you can’t change what it says, so don’t let it take over the last few weeks of wedding planning, alright?!
NO STRESS!
THERE ARE SO MANYTHINGS TO COORDINATE – WHAT IF STUFF GOES WRONG? Organising a wedding is essentially largescale event planning – you’re bound to feel stressed about making sure everything runs smoothly. Your suppliers are pros, so will anticipate and steer clear of potential disasters. Brief your venue on every last detail a few days before and hand over all the on-theday coordination to a trusted bridesmaid or family member – it’s time for someone else to worry and for you to enjoy yourself!
MORNING OF THE WEDDING NERVES? NOTHING A GROUP HUG CAN’T FIX!
5
Everyone has so many opinions – it’s really stressing me out! Family members have a habit of turning into wannabe wedding planners when they hear the ‘W’ word, but there are only two people who really matter on your big day you and your fiancé. It can be hard to have the confidence to do things your way, but only compromise on the things that really don’t matter that much to you. Often, hearing everybody out rather than dismissing their ideas will placate them you can just quietly ignore their advice afterwards! 68
6
What if people don’t have fun at our big day? Trust us, every bride has nightmares about empty dance floors and bored guests. Making sure you’ve covered the big three food, booze and music means most guests will already be having a great time anyway, but you can up the fun-factor with everything from DIY photo booths and table quizzes, to speech sweepstakes and a dance-off. Our advice? Don’t obsess over making everything super fun people are there to celebrate with you and your Mr, not to be entertained non-stop.
8
I’m panicked about being the centre of attention – it’s my worst nightmare! Even extroverts can feel nervous about having all eyes on them. Work out which parts of the wedding are particularly stressing you out, as they can all be adjusted. If you’re dreading walking down the aisle, why not make your entrance to the ceremony together, or swap a panic-inducing first dance for something where everyone gets involved? Just remember, you’re surrounded by people who love you – they want you to feel amazing! PW

HOW TO BE THE
The pros share their tips for getting cameraconfident, when all lenses are on you!
Be yourself “Your photographer will know that you are not a professional model – most of them will tell you that the majority of their clients say they’re nervous or hate having their photo taken,” says blogger Kat Williams (rocknrollbride.com), who regularly poses for photo shoots. “If you have a particular area of concern, let them know. They are not mind readers and we all have 70
our ‘things’ that we hate about our bodies that no one else notices!”
Brave it and bare all! “Book yourself in for a boudoir photography session,” says photographer and make-up artist Charlie Summers at For Your Eyes Only (fyeoportraits.com). “You’ll get bags of confidence from it, gain ideas for posing, and create a pretty special gift for your groom.”
If you have an area of concern, let your photographer know. We all have our ‘things’ that we hate about our bodies that no one else notices!
CAMERA CONFIDENT
photographer so that they know what you want,” suggests Amanda. “Rehearse the poses with your groom-to-be too, so that they come naturally on the day.”
Think about posture “Avoid standing square on to the camera – it’s best to stand at a slight angle,” says Charlie. “Also, make sure the camera is higher than your eyeline – that way you look up to the camera, which is very flattering for your jawline.” A good hen night selfie tip, too!
Make sure the camera is higher than your eyeline – that way you look up to the camera, which is flattering for your jawline “This can feel strange but all the top models do it!” assures Charlie. “Check out your poses in the mirror and see how it looks best – one angle can be super flattering compared to another, so see what feels natural to you.”
Pick the right person
Use celeb tactics
“It’s so important to find a photographer you feel comfortable and happy with,” says Amanda Carter at Dottie Photography (dottiephotography.co.uk). “Look at the galleries on your photographer’s website to get a feel for their work and to check that they are experienced in shooting brides in flattering positions, angles and good light.”
“For a beautiful, flattering and feminine shape, stand with the knee nearest to the camera bent, and place one hand on your hip,” advises Charlie. “This is particularly good for the full-length shots in your wedding dress.”
Steal ideas “Find some images you like in magazines and show them to your
Get to know your photographer “Having a pre-wedding or engagement shoot is an excellent way to get to know your photographer a little better and for them to see how you photograph,” says Kat. “Wear clothing you are comfortable in but that is also flattering – a baggy jumper and slouchy jeans might not make for the best photos...!” PW 71

Andrew and I tend to do things our own way and neither of us is that comfortable with being the centre of attention. Planning our elopement wedding made us excited about getting married! We had our ceremony at Camden Town Hall, followed by champagne at Searcys St Pancras, lunch at Burger & Lobster in Soho, then dinner, drinks and dancing at Shoreditch House. We invited eight of our closest friends who were very excited for us. When we told our families, they were surprised and excited in equal amounts. They would have loved to have been part of our day but respected our choice to do things differently. It was fun catching the Tube together, messing around on the streets in Shoreditch and drinking cocktails while watching an electrical storm roll across London. We wouldn’t have done anything differently!

We both have big families and, rather than feeling excited by planning our wedding, I found myself really stressed out by the whole thing, especially the cost! When I fell pregnant in May 2014, planning an elaborate wedding felt even less right. We’d always joked about just running away and getting married in secret, and one day we decided to just do it! After some research, looking for elopement packages in the UK, we stumbled across BoHo Cornwall (bohocornwall.co.uk) and fell in love with everything about it. We didn’t actually tell anyone about our plans until after we were married. We each rang our parents who had mixed emotions my dad especially still says how he wished he could have walked me down the aisle. To us, our wedding couldn’t have been more perfect. The sun was shining and it was all about us and our commitment to one another and our baby.

WEDDING DATE:20THMAY2015 LOCATION:LADIESPAVILION,CENTRAL PARK, NEWYORKCITY

Matt and I loved the idea of a wedding day where we could be completely ourselves and share our vows in our own special way. We have a daughter together and already thought of ourselves as husband and wife, so just wanted to make it official. I think the plan to elope was always in the back of our minds. I loved the idea of marrying away from home, in a city that would forever hold a special place in our hearts and somewhere we could visit on anniversaries. When we told our family and friends, most were so happy. Everyone could tell from the pictures how perfect the day was for us, plus we threw a party in the pub when we came home to make everyone feel involved. I can’t describe how amazing our Central Park ceremony was; we were both completely wrapped up in each other. The fact that we eloped will always be something so special, a PW moment that only we shared.

This month, PW W talks to talented designer Claire e about her artistic upbringing, wo orking with her husband and her life immersed in fashion... WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO DESIGN WEDDING GOWNS? I started sketching wedding gowns when I was four years old. It didn’t occur to me that being a designer could be a career until my late teens but, by then, I was hooked on fashion. I love the romance, the symbolism and the significance of a wedding gown and the connection my clients feel l piece of clothing.

art, I would paint and draw too. We lived upstate in a rural area, and I would run off and play in the fields and streams. It allowed my imagination to develop in a way that was almost dream-like.
WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR JOB? My husband is my partner, and I love that I have someone that I completely trust to be on this adventure with me! My favourite part of my work is being in my design room and seeing the dresses come together.
...AND THE WORST? When an incorrect fabric arrives (thankfully, quite a rare occurrence), or some other problem tthat throws your plans for the day ccompletely out of the window.
W WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN LA? A I love the cultural diversity, tthe LA vibe, where basically aanything goes. We have the bbeach, the mountains, enough city’ balanced with nature. LA has a free spirit and L ggorgeous weather so there iis a lot to love! PW

Fashion Q
I’m having an outdoor wedding next summer, with a laid-back festival feel. What style of dress would complement the theme? Harriet, 24 SARAH: A flowing, ethereal gown would look lovely for an outdoor wedding! Choose a dress that you can move in and that won’t leave you feeling too hot and bothered.
Our Flora dress would be ideal for you as it’s the epitome of luxury boho the cut is graceful and elegant and yet it’s still very relaxed. Plus, the delicate capped sleeves will ensure you keep nice and cool all day long. Pair your beautiful gown with a pretty headpiece, a loose bouquet and jewelled sandals to really channel that oh-so-chic festival vibe.

Fashion Q
I have a petite frame and small bust. Which style of dress should I go for? Danniella, 28
IMAGE: ISTOCK
SARAH: A soft, floaty gown with delicate details would be the ideal style for your petite figure. I would strongly recommend having your dress professionally altered, to get the perfect fit. You’ll probably need it to be taken up through the shoulders and waist (as well as the length) to keep the dress in proportion. Also, another top tip is to choose a dress with ruched detailing around the bust area to give you a little bit of extra volume.
“NOW I’M READY FOR MY CLOSE UP!”
Beauty Q
I want flawless skin for my W-day but I can’t seem to find a foundation that gives lots of coverage without looking caked on. Please help! Carly, 29
HOPE, SARAH JANKS £2,412
MARIE: A flawless complexion has to be every bride’s dream. The key to achieving this is ensuring your skin is prepped and primed sufficiently before applying your make-up. Double Serum from Clarins is a cocktail of vitamins and minerals to give you dewy, hydrated and radiant skin – and it’s this added
DOUBLE SERUM, CLARINS £55
moisture that will prevent your foundation going flaky. I would also suggest using the double-application technique with your favourite foundation. Simply apply a fine layer over the face, leave for a few minutes and then re-apply to key areas that need a little more coverage. My final tip for ensuring a flawless finish would be to use a foundation brush to apply your liquid foundation but use your hands to press over the face afterwards, as this will give a long-lasting, natural finish.
Catering
“IS IT TOO SOON TO ASK FOR SECONDS?”
Q
We want something a little different ff than the usual roast dinner for our wedding breakfast, but we’re stuck for ideas. Please help! Emma, 27
HATTIE Well, there are a few clever dishes that provide a twist on the traditional, that we have found to be extremely popular. Spring lamb with asparagus and baby carrots served on potato rosti is a sure-fire way to impress your guests. Another fail-safe is steak with Béarnaise sauce and sweet potato wedges. Just remember to provide a vegetarian option too!
A FAVOUR THAT’S FULL OF FLAVOUR!
Favours Q
If we want foodie favours, is this something the caterers will organise for us? Poppy, 32
Beauty Q
I suffer ff from dark undereye circles. How can I banish them before my big day? Nina, 34
MARIE: You need to make sure you get an adequate amount of sleep in the lead up to your wedding day, but if that’s not possible, you can always rely on the amazing Clarins Eye Contour
EYE CONTOUR GEL, CLARINS £31
G to de-puff Gel and revive your tired eyes. Pop it into the fridge the night before and then apply it with light tapping movements to stimulate the skin. Then, add a very T small amount of orange tone lipstick (along with concealer) to your under-eye area, as this helps to counteract the blue tones of the dark circles.
HATTIE: Yes, your caterers should usually be able to offer a foodie option for your wedding day favours. Here at Top Hat Catering, we have been asked to make mini jars of seasonal jams and marmalades. We have also created little pots of sauces that complement the main course. By handwriting the name of each guest on each jar, they can also be used as a substitute for place cards ensuring everyone knows where they are sitting. Alternatively, you could opt for sweet treats personalised biscuits, cake pops or even macarons.
Planning VICTORIA: Yes, the good news is that you can organise your Italian wedding easily from the UK. The process is divided into three main steps and should be started six months before the wedding (it’s worth noting that the steps can not be started more than six months before). First up, you need to gain a Certificate of No Impediment from your local Register Office in the UK – this is you giving notice of your up-coming marriage. Next, you need to
make a Statutory Declaration before a solicitor or public notary in the UK. The written declaration is required by the Italian authorities and gives additional information that isn’t detailed on your Certificate of No Impediment. Finally, when you have both of these legal documents with you, you will need to send them off for legalisation. Your wedding planner then should be able to organise the translation of the documents and the delivery of them to the local Town Hall in Italy – ready for you to get married! For further information on the process, check out sophisticatedweddings.net “IS IT TIME FOR THAT POST-CEREMONY PADDLE NOW?”
Budget Q
We are working to a very tight budget. How can I cut corners and still have my dream wedding abroad? Lisa, 35
VICTORIA: It’s very important to think about where you are planning to tie the knot and when – if you can, try and be flexible with dates so you can select cheaper, off-peak dates. Another very important thing is to hire a wedding planner who is an expert in the exact location you are looking at. This will ensure that you aren’t paying premium prices for your décor, photography, transport etc, as a good wedding planner will have well-established relationships with local suppliers to get the best possible rates. You can also save a hefty amount of money by choosing food and drink that is local to your wedding location. For example, if you are getting married on a tropical island (lucky you!), you may want to consider having a fresh fish as part of your wedding breakfast.

WHERE TO WED: SAME-SEX WEDDINGS All you need to know for your marriage celebration
Q
What is the difference between civil partnership and marriage? A: Apart from the wording and process of the actual ceremonies, the main differences come down to legalities. For example, civil partners do not have the same pension rights as married couples. Visit gov.uk for a detailed guide to the comparisons.
Q
Can I convert my civil partnership to a marriage? A: Yes – you can visit your local register office for a straightforward conversion or have a ceremony at an approved venue with a registrar. You’ll both need to be present and bring proof of ID and of your civil partnership – you’ll then be issued with a marriage certificate. For more info, visit thegayweddingguide.co.uk
Q
Can same-sex couples have a church wedding? A: Yes, but only if the governing body of the religious organisation has opted in to consent of samesex marriage, the individual
minister is happy to conduct the marriage and the church itself is registered for same-sex ceremonies.
Q
Which churches recognise same-sex weddings? A: The Jewish and Quaker churches offer same-sex ceremonies – you’ll just need to give notice to the register office 16 days before the ceremony. Samesex weddings cannot currently take place in Anglican churches.

Celina Corbishley and Matthew Groom held their glamorous vintage wedding at Chilston Park Hotel on 6th March 2015
CELINA LOOKED BEAUTIFUL IN HER CHRISTINA K DRESS
W
e wanted our wedding to be fun and relaxed, yet simple, classy and elegant. As soon as we saw Chilston Park, we knew it would fit perfectly with the ivory and champagne colour scheme we had in mind. After finding our venue, we only had around four months to plan our day! I spent evenings and weekends with my family making favours, place names and pearl garlands for our chair backs. We were so lucky that everybody was keen to help out one of my amazing bridesmaids even sang a beautiful version of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years as I walked down the aisle. Seeing Matt at the altar was so exciting and I got emotional as soon as my bridesmaid started singing! We were delighted that all our close friends and family shared such a special moment with us, too we wouldn’t have changed a thing. 170

Hayley Tucker and Daniel Phillips held their romantic destination wedding on the island of Majorca on 5th July, 2015
D
aniel and I met on the beautiful island of Majorca in 2003. After 10 years of dating, he popped the question while we were on holiday there in 2013. We both love the island and the memories it holds for us, so wanted to share it with our family and friends on our wedding day. As soon as we saw S’Olivaret, we fell in love with it. The hotel is nestled in the Tramontana Mountains and the views are breathtaking. We chose a romantic vintage travel theme with a mix of gold, silver and pastel colours, and had vintage-style birdcages, books lined with oral fabrics to create height, vintage teacups and jars to decorate our tables. The whole day was just incredible and so special. I loved seeing the venue dressed with all my little ideas it was like seeing all my wedding Pinterest boards come to life! 176

HELIUM BALLOONS MAKE IMPRESSIVE CENTREPIECES!
Jemma Steele and Ben Arscott held their Disney's Up themed wedding at Coombe Lodge, Bristol, on 22nd June 2015
B
en and I hadn’t originally planned to have a wedding theme, but we both love the film Up as it reminds us of our childhood. The fun, carefree and vibrant feel of the film matched our personalities and went well with our unusual colour choices of purple and orange. We brought the look to life by having bunches of bright balloons on our tables, held in place by little houses we found on Etsy. Each house had to be built from over 200 pieces, and my wonderful dad took charge of putting them together over the course of six months. The result was amazing and really brought the whole look of the day together. I loved our theme, but my favourite part of the day was our ceremony. Making a commitment to each other after 10 years was the most amazing feeling. The day could have ended there and we still would have been the happiest couple alive. 184

A classic country garden colour scheme
Âť
Kim-Marie Visser and Tim Williams held their beautiful pastel-hued wedding at Tim’s parents’ home on 5th July, 2014
I
’d always dreamed of an English country garden wedding, and when we decided to hold our reception in Tim’s parents’ garden, the dream came to life. It was the perfect blank canvas, which was exciting but needed a lot of hard work and preparation! Our colours were taken from the garden’s flowers pinks, peaches, purples and creams and we used wooden accents to complement the woodland surroundings. My dad made our amazing wooden signs, which we loved! We also added some elements of the 1920s, such as our vintage photo booth, as it added the elegant feel we wanted for our day. Our wedding was a real labour of love. To walk in on the day and see all our hard work come to life was incredible. We loved holding our reception in the family garden and whenever we visit Tim’s parents, it brings back such special memories. 190

S
et the scene for a fun-filled day with a colour-pop reception. Hannah McClune, the photographer behind this creative shoot, explains, “Using a striking colour palette of red, yellow and blue, we created all the fun of the fair with a circus/festival fusion.” This is a great idea for making the most of an outdoor space. “We included touches like the drinks station, where guests can help themselves, and a cute sundae decorating bar,” says Hannah. Sounds like the best wedding party ever! PW

“My brother’s wedding was just beautiful it was in an old barn which they transformed with decorative trees on the tables (made from branches, flowers and Edison bulbs). It looked breathtaking. The children played games outside while we sat drinking G and T on the hay bales so laid-back and relaxed.” EMILY FOOTE, 31

“I loved the personal touches at my friend’s wedding. They had pictures of their life together pegged on string instead of bunting, as well as photos of their parents and grandparents. During the speeches, they talked a lot about family and it gave us a real sense of who they were and where they came from.” SARAABRAM, 32
3
“My favourite wedding was one where the bride and groom’s personality and confidence really shone through. They had a Mr and Mrs quiz during the speeches which had everyone in stitches!” FAYE SWINDON, 28
4
“Food, drink and dancing were the key to the wedding I
IMPRESS YOUR GUESTS remember most. We were greeted with a vintage ice cream cart on arrival, along with amazing Bellini cocktails. The meal was made from delicious, locally-sourced ingredients and then the sevenpiece band (complete with blow-up instruments) really brought the house down!” ZIA WILLIAMS, 30
5
“The best wedding we ever went to was one where no kids were invited. Initially, we were a bit surprised when we received the invitation, but actually it was fantastic to let our hair down and not have to worry about our children for the day.” LORNA HOLT, 34

“We went to a wedding at Symondsbury Manor, an amazing house in Dorset, that the bride and groom had hired for the weekend. They had a beautiful humanist ceremony, where colourful ribbons were wrapped around their hands during their vows. It was so much fun having exclusive use of the house and grounds – it meant there was no cut-off time for dancing either!” TOM JOHNSON, 35
7
“My least favourite wedding was a very formal affair – lots of standing around waiting to be photographed and a rigid order of the day to adhere to. The one I loved most was a chilled out gathering of friends and family – nothing fancy, just a simple ceremony and a nice meal in a restaurant followed by general silliness. Celebrating your love doesn’t have to cost a lot.” MARK SIMMONDS, 36
8
“Our friends got married abroad and it was the most romantic wedding we have been to. We got to have a holiday as well as seeing our best friends say their hand-written vows under a pure blue sky on the beach memories we will never forget.” DEEPA HADLAND, 27
10
“Best wedding? Our friend’s a few years ago, held in a marquee at the bride’s parents’ house. They created a DIY bar with kegs of local cider, and laid out picnic baskets of biscuits and pickles on each table that were served with a six-tiered cake of cheese. Heaven!” SARAH HILL, 30 PW
9
“I went to a great wedding last year in Bath the ceremony was a standard registry office affair, but we were then treated to a boat ride to the reception venue (with lots of champagne and canapés) which got everyone in the party mood.” CHARLOTTE PALMER, 33

Let the cake stand in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Prepare the mascarpone buttercream. Using an electric mixer, beat all the ingredients together for 3–5 minutes or until light and fluffy. Use it to fill or top the cake of your choice. Prepare the orange syrup. Place all the ingredients in a small saucepan and stir over low heat until the sugar has dissolved. Simmer for 4 minutes or until a light syrup forms. Remove from the heat and cool or serve warm. Store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two months. When the cakes have cooled slightly, prick holes all over them with a skewer, then pour a quarter of the hot syrup over each cake and leave to cool completely. To assemble, place one of the cakes on a stand or serving plate and spread with a quarter of the buttercream. Repeat with the remaining cakes and buttercream, finishing with a layer of buttercream. Use some of the buttercream oozing out of the layers to lightly ‘whitewash’ the sides, as shown. Transfer the cake to a pedestal or cake plate. Crown with roses. hen I fell in love with a very fitted, corseted Suzanne Neville dress at a sample sale, I knew I’d need to lose some weight to look my best in it (and be able to breathe!). I had the best part of a year to lose less than a stone, so tried to do it slowly without letting it take over my life. I joined a gym close to my office so I could fit
in lunchtime classes, choosing things I knew I’d enjoy like Zumba and yoga. I also started using the My Fitness Pal app to keep track of what I was eating. I actually ended up having the top of the corset taken in by two inches, which I wasn’t expecting! Luckily, the dress still flattered my new shape and I had lots of compliments all the effort I’d put in had been worthwhile.”

ike most women, I’d love to be a bit skinnier and have a flatter tummy, but I love my food and I’m not the sporty type so I’ve learnt to accept my body shape. I certainly didn’t want to spend months in the run-up to my wedding starving myself and becoming a gym-junkie! A few weeks before the big day,
I ate healthily, had early nights and cut back on booze. On the day, I had the normal nerves but I felt amazing in my dress. For me, a dress that complimented my curves was the thing that made me feel sexy, glamorous and confident on the day.”

ULTIMATE WELLBEING in Marbella Our Editor checked into Healthouse Las Dunas and left feeling slimmer and calmer
A
s we sped from the airport through the stunning countryside of southern Spain, I could already feel the stresses of my 9 5 slip away. We were checking into the beautiful Healthouse Las Dunas a ďŹ ve-star health and beach spa like no other. Sitting right on the Mediterranean, the hotel provides personalised health and nutrition programmes with the emphasis on wellbeing and balance. We had opted for the weight-loss one not tough to follow in such a great location.
ROOM WITH A VIEW Our fabulous room with huge, dark marbled bathroom was gorgeous, and our balcony (a view of the beautiful gardens and the sparkling azure sea anyone?) gave us a great impression as to how the rest of our stay would be. Little luxurious touches were everywhere we went from our personalised products (the team based these on our hair and beauty needs) to the amazing beds, we felt as though we were in paradise and not a health spa!
OOO0! OUTDOOR HEATED POOL ANYONE?
NUTRITION, NUTRITION, NUTRITION Once we’d settled in, we dragged ourselves away from our view to meet our nutritionist, Miriam, who was amazing. The whole team are so supportive to guests who wish to reach their wellness goals, and go above and beyond to offer advice and help. I spoke at length to Miriam about my objectives (to lose some weight, sleep better, de-stress). She went through my entire diet and we talked about my lifestyle, nutritional needs and foods I should avoid. This meeting with her was truly enlightening! For the rest of the stay each meal incorporated her (delicious) recommendations and since returning home I have taken her suggestions on board.
THE ROOMS HAVE A VIEW OF THE MED. TOO GORGEOUS!

DRINKS ON THE TERRACE (NO G&TS HERE THOUGH!)
ICE, ICE, BABY Next we were shown to the spa. Oh. Wow. Apart from the fact that it’s huge (I got lost at least twice), it is incredibly beautifully done, and nothing has been forgotten. From the ice cave (yes, really!) to the selection of pools, it really is a haven. For me the highlight of the spa was my hour-long hot stone massage. Every bone in my body felt so relaxed. I had to sit in the (frankly amazing) gardens (with heated outdoor pool) to let it sink in!
FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD Despite the fact that we were on a weight-loss programme, the food at the hotel is delicious… and filling! Each meal had three courses (wild asparagus tips and truffle anyone? get usedd to the h lack l k off alcohol, l h l but b actually, in such a beautiful, relaxing setting, where you really do feel you are doing the best for your body and soul, it didn’t seem like a chore. The amazing non-alcoholic cocktails definitely helped too! My trip to Healthouse Las Dunas has been an eye-opener. I have a (fairly) healthy diet and (pretty) healthy lifestyle, but my stay here really made me think about nutrition, has definitely helped me look at food differently, and has aided weight-loss – a fabulous result!

Woah there, Kim K... He’s bookmarked Pinterest on the laptop and instead of spending his evenings tinkering with his fantasy football team, he creates elaborate moodboards covering every little detail of your day. Plus, point blank refuses to put in an ABBA number for your gran. That’s just mean... poor Granny. Your calendar at home is chock-a-block full of wedding to-dos and deadlines and it’s all colourcoded. Mess with his precise system and all hell breaks loose! There may even be tears (his)… He loves nothing more than to watch Don’t Tell The Bride so he can point out exactly where the groom is going wrong and how much better he would have planned it. Seriously, how long until the wedding is here and we get our normal Mr back?!
