TEMAGAMI CANOE AND CAMPING TRIP Come and join us for an incredible and unique canoe trip 500 kilometres north of Toronto, and explore parts of Canada that few Canadians have ever visited! This canoe and camping trip program mirrors the renowned Appleby College Outdoor Education Program and takes place at Appleby’s S. Bruce McLaughlin Northern Campus on Lake Temagami. The trip provides students with a strong sense of accomplishment and self-confidence, as they are involved in every facet of the canoe trip, from packing food and equipment, paddling the canoe, to outdoor cooking and tent set up. They learn wilderness navigation techniques, and gain an appreciation for the natural environment.
In a challenging outdoor environment, an experiential approach is taken towards developing each student’s awareness and understanding of problem-solving processes, group dynamics, and concepts of well-being. Students learn and practice the skills and principles necessary to improve their own and others’ quality of life, and make choices associated with increasing personal responsibility within their own lifestyles. During the outdoor adventure, students are exposed to tremendous learning opportunities, designed to enhance communication, leadership, personal and social skills. Throughout this trip, safety is our ultimate priority. Appleby has a long track record of safely running its outdoor education program on Rabbitnose Island in Temagami for over 40 years. Our professionally trained and experienced staff, including wilderness guides, teachers and counselors, will travel alongside students at all times. Every student must wear a life jacket whenever they are on the water.
