“ALL IS FULL OF LOVE” COLLABORATION THE BRIEF To produce an illustration to use in collaboration with hand drawn typography by Oliver Saward, as a pilot for collaborative business collaboration. DESIGN RESPONSE 6 colour image inspired by Motown and early soul culture, crossed with Bjork lyric communicates a message with funky undertones.

POSTER RANGE The poster is part of a set currently in production to be hand printed.


THE JUICE MAGAZINE EDITORIAL THE BRIEF A live brief which required illustration on the topic of ‘the science of art. ‘ The only requirement was that the image was submitted in 1 colour. DESIGN RESPONSE 1 colour vector line art depicting Albert einstein after taking a biro to his head in boredom when he should have been working out the theory of relativity.


“PRESSURISED RECOVERY” THE BRIEF

DESIGN RESPONSE

To design, produce and print an engaging publication to be sold at the Hot Bed Press’s seventh annual book fair.

The concept from pressurised recovery came from 2010’s realease of the new Marine Census, which cataloggued over 2,000 new deep sea life forms.

The publication cataloggued 14 of the ugliest and strangest deep sea life forms discovered in 2010, Two editions were produced, with the special edition using black foil and glow in the dark ink to echo the concept of deep sea life and bioluminescance.


BOOK DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION The publication cataloggues 14 greyscale vector illustrations including annotations, latin names and a short description of the fish and its habitat.

An important part of the design process was to echoe victorian publications about natural sciences, including a glossary of terms and translations of latin terminologies.


ALIUS RECORDS THE BRIEF

DESIGN RESPONSE

To design a brand identity for Alius Records, a fictional record company. then apply branding and identity to a range of print based products.

The concept behind Alius Records is that the musicians and producers on the label remain true to their roots in their music. This was communicated using organic textures taken from trees with a different colour scheme for each artist.

The textures and colour schemes represent the different ways the musicians have grown as artists. This was a submission for a second year module on BA(Hons) Graphic design focused on product, range and distribution.


PRODUCT RANGE The artist’s identities and label branding has been applied across 12” and 7” records and a CD to provide Alius Records with flexibility in using a variety of formats in regard to releasing music, based on the demand for their music.


SELF PROMOTIONAL ILLUSTRATIONS THE BRIEF

DESIGN RESPONSE

Produce a piece of promotional material to hand to clients and potential clients and employers as exposure and self promotion.

Produce Illustration to the highest quality possible which reflects skills and interests.

Limited colour vector illustration, produced using adobe Illustrator and a Waccom tablet. Promotional send outs were digitally printed.


THE UFO HANDBOOK THE BRIEF

DESIGN RESPONSE

To redesign and use the information in the UFO Handbook by Allan Hendry as a technical excercise of type and iconography layout for publication design.

The UFO Handbook is a redesign of an existing publication from the 1970s written by Allan Hendry. The project exists as a technical excercise into type and iconography layout compiled in a publication with a focus on folding methods and pagination.

The iconography was selected from the publication and also applied accros a range of posters. The UFO handbook was part of a submission for BA(Hons) Graphic design, in the third year of the course.


PUBLICATION & FOLDS The handbook contains a UFO spotters guide which transitions into a fold out which contains everything a UFO spotter needs to report a UFO sighting.

The spotters guide also contains a fold out outlining methods of UFO distinction, all imagery and information contained in the redesign is based on the original book.


LEEDS COLLEGE OF ART NEWSLETTER THE BRIEF

DESIGN RESPONSE

This project was a pitch for the Leeds College of Art Annual Newsletter. The brief asked for two colours and the consideration of layout to fit 8 - 10 articles within it and an interesting folding method.

Newsletter folds up tp form a two article per spread mini newspaper which transitions into an open day advertisement for the college on the reverse.

Photographs were sourced at the college and all articles were taken from the website at this initial pitching stage.


REBEL PIN UP THE BRIEF

DESIGN RESPONSE

This brief is a submission for third year BA(Hons) Graphic Design at Leeds college of art but began as a live brief, which asked for environmental illustration for the toilet of Rebel Pin Up, a contempory salon.

The illustration had to appeal primarily to women, but also have some appeal to men. The salon focuses on an edgy and contemporary spin on 1950’s pin up style.

The illustration aims to communicate this through a character with awesome hair and attitude to match. Floral design aims to add femininity to the overall feel of the image, including the salons identity within.


ILLUSTRATION & RANGE APPLICATION The illustration & installation art was taken further by its application to stationary and promotional material for Rebel Pin Up.

The range of formats includes; Business card, loyalty card, look book and Promoational mailer pack.
