A Wet and Windy Harvest for
Puddles
Gill Vaisey Illustrations by
Louise Gwillym
Puddles loved windy days. They were so much fun -
especially in autumn when there were so many leaves to play with.
There were big
red ones with crinkly edges,
bright
yellow ones that shone in the sun,
tiny
green ones, shiny and smooth,
and crispy
brown ones that sometimes stuck to a paw!
The churchyard was a great place to play. There were all sorts of trees and all sorts of leaves.
The Reverend Freddie Fisher walked up the path to the big arched door of the church. It creaked as he turned the handle and opened it.
Puddles noticed the open door and quickly ran through it. To her, playing inside the church was almost as much fun as playing in the churchyard.
First, Puddles found the cloth which hung down from the pulpit. She flicked the gold tassels and watched them dance in the air.
To the side of the pulpit, she saw the huge display of fruit and vegetables ready for the Harvest service.
Puddles spotted the red and green apples amongst the carrots and potatoes.
She crept up to a small green apple and flicked it away from the carrots. It rolled like a ball down the aisle of the church and landed in front of the people who were just coming in.
Meet Puddles – a very mischievous cat. Puddles enjoys playing in the autumn leaves but not content to play outside, she joins the congregation of the Reverend Freddie Fisher’s church for the Harvest service and then the fun really begins…
