Rounding Whole Numbers

JOURNAL QUESTIONS

If you have the number 4,736, how would rounding it to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000 give you different results? Why do you think these differences maƩer?

If a friend says the number 9,999 rounds to 10,000 when rounding to the nearest 10, do you agree or disagree? Explain why rounding rules might lead to different answers.

Imagine you are esƟmaƟng the number of people at a big event. Would you prefer to round to the nearest 100 or 1,000? Why?

JOURNAL QUESTIONS

1

What do you noƟce about the angles in different shapes like triangles and rectangles? Can you find and name an acute, right, obtuse, straight, or reflex angle in these shapes?

2

Why do you think some angles are called acute while others are called obtuse? How would you describe these angles to a friend who has never heard of them?

3

How would you explain the difference between a straight angle and a reflex angle? Which one do you think is more common in everyday life, and why?
