SCIENCE FOLD-N-SORT TEMPLATES WITH JOURNAL IDEAS (GRADE 3) BOOKLET INCLUDES: • Foldable Note Templates by Benchmark • Suggested Foldable with Directions • Answer Key The Science Section of the Science Statewide Assessment (SSA) The Statewide Science Assessment (SSA) evaluates students' knowledge of scientific process/content. Students analyze and apply these principles in order to demonstrate scientific understanding. The Assessment is adapted from Florida's Next Generation Sunshine State Standard benchmarks that encompass specific concepts involving several Big Ideas. Among these concepts are items involving the following clusters: Nature of Science, Life Science, Physical Science and Earth & Space Science. DIRECTIONS:
Duplicate the Foldable Note Template by Benchmark for each student or group of students. Give students construction paper, glue, and scissors. Have the students cut out the foldable template around the outside edge of the border for each of the science terms (in bold), pictures, and/or definitions (in italics). Students will then determine how to best sort the cutouts according to the categories available. The suggested template for each foldable is listed beneath the title. The construction paper can be folded and/or cut using the directions of the suggested foldable found on pages 37 through 50. The sorted cutouts can then be glued to the construction paper and used as a template for adding notes or as an assessment for that benchmark. The completed foldable notes may be used to decorate the classroom, the students’ bedrooms, and most importantly, as a pocket review for the test.

DIRECTIONS: FOUR-TAB VERTICAL FOLD STEP 1: Fold a piece of construction paper (8 ½” x 11”) using a vertical (hotdog-like) fold. Leaving one side ½ inch shorter than the other.
STEP 2: Fold the paper in half using a horizontal (hamburger-like) fold.
STEP 3: Fold the paper in half again using the same fold as before.
STEP 4: Cut through the three foldlines on the outside half of the paper. Note: stop at the vertical fold-line.
STEP 5: The result will be a Four-tab Vertical Folded template.
