JUNE 2022 VOL. 3 ISSUE #3

Hello to our lovely readers As the world slowly unravels itself from the tangledness of an ongoing pandemic, international borders once again begin to reopen signaling improving global conditions and an attempt by many to return to a business-as-usual mindset. Domestic travel, on the other hand, has already made a successful comeback with many countries promoting domestic travel and tourism as an opportunity to once again reconnect with nature, art, fine cuisine, and people. Whether you experience a vacation, staycation, nearcation, or daycation, finally being able to move beyond the confines of our local and regional boundaries can be an exciting yet daunting experience. Prior to 2020, the world was our oyster travel-wise. We could pretty much go anywhere and do almost anything (within reason). Two years later, there is now an opportunity to pick up where we left off - albeit in a much more considered way. With that in mind, Borasaek Vision has prepared a special selection of BTS-inspired articles dedicated to the prospect of traveling. We take a trip down memory lane as we revisit some of the significant spaces and places that BTS has visited throughout their career, exploring the different factors that all help to make memorable experiences.

Written by: Shelley Checked by: Aury

Alone or in a group, there is much to consider when preparing to venture out. Fortunately for many of us, BTS’ experiences have shown us both the good and ‘not-so-good’ aspects of travel - definitely food for thought if we are feeling like it’s time to get out and about again. Whether you’re wanting to experience something new and exciting or return to something more comfortable and familiar, these articles will provide you with some great insights, tips, and possibilities. Perhaps you, too, have already started to travel again. If so, we’d love to hear from you. Where did you go and how was your experience? If not, which BTS travel experiences did you enjoy the most? There’s so much to choose from isn’t there.

Calming Countryside City life can get overwhelming, so why not escape to a beautiful countryside with deep culture for your next vacation? BTS went to the Oh-seong Hanok Village in Wanju and stayed for a week for their 2019 Summer Package. They were seen appreciating the history and beauty of South Korea there. Underlying the series itself is the importance of growth we see in BTS as they travel. They challenge themselves with new activities, foods, and speak to locals who often don’t speak Korean. The series shows how traveling can encourage you to explore new things, and step outside of your comfort zone. Each member has different interests and in the different units that pair off for activities they cover quite a lot of the location in the span of a week. When traveling, there is often only a limited amount of time to take in all of the sights and adventures that a location has to offer. Finding activities that best fit your personality or interests help make the travel experience more entertaining and feel less draining.

The world today can seem more connected than ever, with endless knowledge at your fingertips thanks to the internet. Nothing, however, can beat the chance to visit a new place and learn about it from the people that live there or through doing activities that are unique to their geographic location or culture. In four seasons of BTS’ Bon Voyage reality travel series, they have visited several places around the world and brought us along for the ride. The series not only highlights the members, but also the places they visit and the interactions they have with different cultures around the world. In each place, they spend time with one another and provide laughs for ARMY, but they learn more about the places they visit and try things that are unique to that location. Whether it be a dish, an activity, or just taking in the beautiful scenery, they show excitement for all of it.

We are going to take a trip through a few Bon Voyage filming destinations and discuss the places they’ve traveled. With many ready to get back to traveling internationally after years of being tethered to home, consider this your guide for traveling like the band themselves. Are you ready to follow along? Say, Bon Voyage!

Season One: Kicking off the travel series, we saw BTS travel to Eastern Europe in 2016. Starting their trip in Bergen, Norway, they shop at a local market and pick up ingredients to make meals for themselves, knowing they did not have the budget to eat out every day during their visit. Researching and finding local stores – for whatever you may need on your trip – can save you hassle when you arrive. We’ve all had times when we’ve forgotten to pack our toothbrush. The first day in Bergen the members step out to see that the locals are dressed in traditional clothing, as it is the celebration of Norwegian Constitution Day. This National holiday, also called Syttende Mai, is celebrated every year on the 17th of May, and recognizes the day in 1814 that Norway was declared an independent kingdom. The members smile and wave at the crowds of people gathered for parades and the day’s events. They noted that their traditional folk dress, called Bunad,

7 | Ready to Say Bon Voyage?

was very beautiful. Before leaving for their next location, BTS visited some popular fjords by ship. A fjord is a long narrow body of water that reaches far inland, and deep below the water’s surface, they often have steep walls. Norway has 10 fjords that are often visited by tourists, but boasts over one thousand in total. It is popular to visit them by ship and to hike or kayak out to see these natural beauties. This season also saw them visit Gamla Stan in Stockholm, Sweden. This is one of the oldest medieval cities in Europe, and the impressive architecture reflects this heritage. They walk the city and admire the different shops and slender alleyways. They take a cruise ship from Sweden to Finland in the final episodes of the season, a first for the group that had never been on such a large cruise ship. Caravanning around Finland, they rented a camping car and visited Santa’s village where they met elves and wrote letters to one another that would be shipped out at Christmas.

Season Two:

Setting off after their Wings tour, BTS found themselves in the state of Hawaii, U.S.A. They began their journey on the island of Hawai’i (or the Big Island). This island is home to most of Hawaii’s volcanoes, the most popular being Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea, the two former being active and within the bounds of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano that we can see BTS take photos in front of and hike within. Besides hiking, the members also took part in popular helicopter rides to see an aerial view of the erupting volcanoes, seeing steam rise from the shore where the lava meets the sea. Mauna Kea peak of Mauna Kea boasts itself to be the tallest point in the state of Hawaii and the second highest peak of an island on Earth. This is the only area of Hawaii that sees snow. They did not leave the island without trying local food from Ken’s Pancake House, where they tried the famous pancakes and a Hawaiian specialty dish called “Loco Moco.” Loco Moco is a dish that has a beef patty and egg on top of a bed of rice and is covered in brown gravy.

9 | Ready to Say Bon Voyage?

On the island of Oahu, the members explored Waikiki, Honolulu, and Haliewa on the North Shore. They had to make their way from the airport to their accommodations via different forms of public transit. They interacted with locals along the way, never fearing to give a bright and warm, “Aloha” as a greeting. Hawaii itself has a very diverse culture, from Native Hawaiian to various polynesian cultures and American. Hawaii also has its own language, Hawaii English Creole, that is a second language to many who live in the islands. In Haleiwa they tried food from the famous shrimp trucks and burger restaurants, taking the time to shop for souvenirs at local stores. They also participated in shark dives and snorkeling, getting to see the bright clear waters of Hawaii and admire the marine life present. On the North East shore of the Island, they visited the Polynesian Cultural Center, where they watched traditional dances and hula over dinner. The members even went on stage to dance, guided by young children to try hula themselves. Wrapping up their exciting trip they tried their luck at surfing. Hawaii is home to, and known for many surfing competitions across the islands, specifically on the North Shore of Oahu.

Each destination that BTS visits, they not only sought after famous locations or restaurants, but also tried things that were new to them: special activities and sightseeing unique sceneries that are uncommon back home. Engaging with local cultures and showing appreciation for the places they visit, they respect the destination’s history. As we begin to travel more frequently and visit places that catch our intrigue, it is always important to remember to put safety first. Being in new destinations comes with challenges, and taking the time to research and plan beforehand can help greatly, especially if traveling internationally. Keeping your travel documents close key to smooth jet setting. As BTS showed us, losing items can put a damper on the excitement. Health and wellbeing are also important, whether it’s allergies to pollen or foods or differences in air pressure or sea level. Knowing yourself and your limits will allow you to travel comfortably with minimal hiccups. Happy traveling! And remember… don’t lose your passport!

When was the last time you traveled? Living in the city is fun; there’s plenty to do, people to meet, and convenient stores to get everything you need. However, city life can get overwhelming real fast, especially if you don’t get to take a break from it once in a while. Are you in need of some fresh air or a change of scenery after spending too much time behind closed doors for the last couple of years? This might be the perfect time to enjoy nature on a trip with family or friends. Ready to plan your trip? Let’s get you started with the perfect source of inspiration—BTS In the SOOP!

In The Soop Let’s begin with a quick recap for anyone who isn’t familiar with the show. “Soop” is the romanized Korean word for forest, so BTS In the Soop is exactly what it sounds like. The band gets to spend some days in nature, relaxing and enjoying an assortment of hobbies of their choosing. There are two seasons so far, both filmed in the Gangwon-do province of South Korea.

and snow festivals, this might be the perfect place for you. Depending on your preferences, you could also visit a National Park, a museum, or one of the temples in the area. Choosing A Destination Now back to planning your trip away from the city!

First, decide if you’ll travel abroad or within your country. Once you’ve done that, make a list of places When watching the guys have fun, you’re curious about but haven’t and the stunning views surrounding visited, some that you have enjoyed them, it’s hard not to get curious before, and popular ones that pop about the locations. Different expectations within the group? Think outside of the box and be flexible. The more adventurous people could sleep in a tent outside like Jin, or cook one of the meals on the open fire. The more relaxed ones could read and take peaceful walks. Just make sure to also plan joined activities that everyone can enjoy together, like board games or toasting marshmallows. Time to narrow your list one more time, depending on what places fulfill your comfort needs within your budget. If you still have a few to choose from, you can all vote to pick a favorite and save the rest for future trips. Travel activities Here comes the fun part—start daydreaming! What do you and the people coming along want to do during this trip? Ask yourself what you’re needing the most right now. It may be silence, fresh air, connecting with friends & family, or even with yourself.

13 | Traveling to the SOOP

Go Hiking There are a million options, but when visiting nature, hiking is a fan-favorite for anyone who enjoys exploring and challenging themselves. No experience? No problem. Depending on the place, you can find beginnerfriendly and even accessible trails for people with mobility disabilities. Just do some research beforehand to make sure. For those of you new to hiking, here’s a non-exhaustive list of tips to get you started: 1. Pack the essentials: A good backpack, water, a first aid kit, sun protection, a trash bag, bug spray, rain protection, a knife, toiletries, a change of clothes, and appropriate food—keep that energy! 2. Everything you bring, you have to carry: Avoid anything unnecessary 3. Navigation tools: They should work without the internet, so

download or print your map 4. Stretch before starting: And take breaks when you need them, no need to rush 5. Start early: Consider daylight hours and how hot it can get 6. When in doubt, pick a beginner’s trail: If it’s too easy, try something more difficult next time. Also, always stay on the trail! 7. Cover your arms and head: To prevent sunburns and mosquito bites 8. Use proper hiking shoes or boots: Preferably not brand new. Walk around in them before the trip; your feet will thank you! 9. Research the local fauna: Are there animals that you need to take precautions for? 10. Finally, as much as possible, hike in groups Of course, there’s more to know, but you get the idea. Do your research and learn from each hiking experience. When done safely, it’s super fun.

Traveling to the SOOP| 14

Explore Hobbies That being said, you might prefer more chill activities. Once again, we can take BTS’ example. Are there hobbies you don’t get enough time to enjoy back home? Or, maybe there’s something you’ve always wanted to try. We recommend choosing a couple of activities and getting your materials in advance so you can enjoy them stressfree. Want to paint like BTS? Choose one technique to try, and watch some tutorials. If it’s your first time, buy beginner materials that you don’t mind messing up. Would you rather cook? Pick a couple of recipes, or a group of ingredients that go well together, so you can improvise without fear. Just make sure you’ll have access to a fridge or some other way to keep everything fresh. Some of you might have something even more peaceful in mind, like sleeping as much as your body needs, cloud gazing, or listening to music all day. All of these are great, and since this is your trip, you should do whatever feels right without worries. As you can see, the list of hobbies could go on and on, but you know best what you need. Just remember to give yourself permission to be bad if you’re trying something new, and to prioritize enjoying the experience, by yourself or with others, over getting a good result. This is your chance to enjoy yourself without big expectations.

15 | Traveling to the SOOP

Spending time in nature can be fun and relaxing, but that’s only possible if you keep yourself safe. Consider your health and possible emergencies. Since you’ll be away from the city, double-check you packed any meds you need. Also, if you’re driving and really need glasses to see, take a spare pair or make sure there will be someone else with a license in your group. Accidents can happen! Finally, make sure you know where the closest medical center is and how long it takes to reach it. This is especially important if you’ll be in a really remote area. If you’ve never visited your destination before, it’s always good practice to research it a little beforehand. What’s the weather like during each season,

local fauna, roads condition— rural areas can be tricky for some vehicles—if there’s a phone signal or Internet, and the closest town in case you need something. It won’t make the experience less fun, I promise, but it’ll make it less stressful for sure. Your Ideal Trip If this feels like a lot to think about, don’t worry, your trip can be as complicated or as simple as you want. Are your family or friends coming along? Then you don’t need to do everything by yourself! Plan together, divide tasks, and enjoy the anticipation. Soon enough, you’ll get to explore and relax as much as you want.

Safety First, Second, & Third

Now you’re all set. Have fun planning your ideal trip, and enjoy your break from city life!

It’s been two and a half years since BTS have been able to embark on a world tour, but that will hopefully be changing soon. And the way their popularity has increased over time means that this tour could be their biggest yet. Even so, unfortunately, BTS will not be able to visit every location that has ARMY. This means many may have to travel outside their city — or even their country — to see the group perform live. We’ve analyzed where BTS has performed the most in the past to predict what a future tour may look like. We’ve also compiled a brief guide to how to purchase tickets no matter where you decide to travel.

17 | Concert Tour Travel Guide

Common Concert Spots To begin, this data was gathered from all of BTS’ concert tours to find the locations they performed at the most. Surprisingly, South Korea was only the third most common country; they performed concerts there with 21 shows not including Festas, Musters, or other special performances. The top two spots were taken up by Japan and the United States with 48 shows and 35 shows respectively. This is likely because of the larger populations in Japan and The United States, which means if BTS wants to see the same percentage of fans, they need to do more shows.

In total, concert tours have taken BTS to 22 different countries and 38 different cities. Seoul claimed its expected number one spot for cities, hosting all 21 concert tour shows that BTS have performed in South Korea. Osaka was the next most common city with 14 shows followed by Los Angeles with 13. Naturally, as the band has grown over time, so too have their list of tour stops. During the Red Bullet Tour, BTS performed 28 shows in 13 countries; including 8 countries in Asia, 2 in North America, 2 in South America, and 2 in Oceania and the Pacific Islands. Fast forward a few years, and for the Wings Tour the group went to 19 cities in 12 countries to perform 40 shows. The Love Yourself and Speak Yourself Tours saw the highest location diversity of any of their tours. While only 32% of concerts on the Red Bullet Tour took place outside of Asia, 55% of shows on the Love Yourself Tour were outside of Asia. The tour had 62 shows among 22 cities in 14 countries. It also featured tour stops in Europe and the Middle East for the first time. It can be reasonably assumed that BTS’ next tour could easily reach 80 shows on maybe 6 different continents.

number of fan meets known as Musters that allow fans to see them perform live while also playing games and interacting with ARMY in the crowd. For the most part, BTS fan meetings have been contained to South Korea and Japan. Seoul and Busan are the only cities in South Korea to have hosted a fan meet, while 6 different cities in Japan have hosted a Muster. However, in 2014 for BTS’ first fan meeting, they did tour outside Asia, hosting Musters in Berlin, Stockholm, and São Paulo. Again, as BTS’ popularity grows and they are able to travel and tour again, it is possible that they will begin to travel the world not only to perform concerts but also for fan meets.

But concert tours aren’t the only way to see a BTS show. The group has put on a Concert Tour Travel Guide| 18

Differences in Concert Experiences While some ARMY may have to travel to a new city or country to see BTS, it can also be an exciting experience to see BTS in a place different from where you live as concert culture around the world is very different. For instance, ARMY in Korea shout out the fan chants, while fans in Brazil are known for singing along. Japanese ARMY sit down for the majority of the concert while many Americans stand the whole time. ARMY in France have repeatedly impressed BTS with their chanting and stomping.

note that the ticket buying process is different in each country. Depending on where you want to go, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with how they purchase tickets. This section will go through buying tickets in the countries where BTS has had the most shows.

When buying BTS tickets in South Korea, purchases are made through Interpark. Additionally, tickets are typically only made available to official ARMY members, so buying membership through Weverse is important. After making an Interpark account and buying global membership, you must link the two accounts to ensure you have access when tickets go on sale. It is important to do all of these steps days before the actual date of ticket release. Shows in South Korea typically have If you’re interested in getting a bit more much stricter limits than other countries information about concerts in different regarding the number of tickets one countries before committing to traveling, plenty of ARMY post videos of their concert person can buy, as well as the ability of the purchaser to transfer their ticket. experiences online. Searching “BTS concert experience” or “BTS concert vlog” and the For those hoping to go to a BTS concert name of the desired city or country can in Japan, the process can be a little provide a multitude of results for those interested in learning more about concerts more difficult. While membership for the Japanese fan club can be purchased in other countries. on Weverse, the group operates more independently. ARMY living in Japan receiving their tickets through the fan reservation process. In the United States, Hybe has used mostly Ticketmaster to sell tickets. As with the Korean system, this requires those that wish to purchase tickets to have an active US ARMY membership that they must then register with Ticketmaster for the Verified Fan Presale. After linking your Weverse account to your Ticketmaster account, at least a day before tickets go on sale, Ticketmaster will send selected fans a code to use to enter the presale. As with the Japanese process, there is a general sale for non-ARMY, but with BTS’ most recent shows in Las Vegas, all four shows sold out during the ARMY presale. The Ticketmaster process has come under intense scrutiny, though, with many ARMY feeling that many real fans didn’t have access to tickets given the high number of resale seats. For many shows outside of these three countries, fans can buy tickets through the Live Nation website associated with the country of the show (i.e. Live Nation France for a show in Paris

or Live Nation Thailand for a show in Bangkok). Unfortunately, ticketing outside the US and Korea has not occurred since ARMY membership opened up outside of the Korean language. But it can be assumed given the practices in the United State that those with official ARMY membership will be given access to tickets before the general public. No matter where you see the group, BTS always puts on a good performance. But traveling for a concert may provide you with a concert experience completely different to the one in your home country and can also allow you to make new ARMY friends. Trends in BTS’ previous tours suggest that their next tour could reach up to 20 countries and 30 cities so the possible destinations are always increasing. However, if you decide to travel somewhere new for a performance make sure to check their ticket purchasing process far in advance of the time they go on sale.

Have you ever wondered how harmonious BTS’ trips are? During their traveling contents (both at home and abroad) like Bon Voyage, Summer Package, Winter Package, and In The SOOP, the BTS members seemed so in tune with each other’s preferences. When there are arguments, it never escalates because they are quick to meet in the middle.

The recent MBTI Lab content on BANGTANTV has some interesting questions about BTS’ preferences when going on a trip or spending their vacations. Let’s see the questions together and see how each member complements the other during trips. Q: I’m going on a trip with some friends. What would I do? A. Booked flight and hotel. All ready! B.

RM and SUGA are in charge of the money and hunting for good restaurants; Jimin is also in charge of the money. V is comfortable with taking care of the fun and good places to eat, while Jin, J-hope, and Jung Kook opted to follow along with whatever the plan is.

Q: My daily routine during vacation?

Q:. I got a day off for the first time in a long time. What would I do?

The original question was about their routine during school vacation, but this question applied to any kind of vacation as well. For SUGA, Jimin and J-hope, it’s important to set aside some time to make a plan for their vacation rather than the vacation itself. RM, Jung Kook, Jin, and V wouldn’t spend too much time planning their vacation and just need to make sure they have time to sleep, eat, have fun, and decorate empty spots.

A. Think about when, where, how, and why first! I don’t want to just go out. B.

I don’t know where to go out, but just get ready and go wherever my feet lead me.

All of the members besides V chose A, while V, ever the romantic, chose B.

A. Prioritize my vacation plan, allot time, and make a schedule based on the plan B.

Allot time for sleep, meals, having fun, and decorating empty spots.

RM AND SUGA When going out alone, RM and SUGA are the type to plan everything, and wouldn’t go out without having a set destination. But, when going out with friends or in a group, they would adapt and be more flexible, planning each day as it comes to prevent incidents and arguments. Both of them are confident with being the treasurer of the group and making sure they have good restaurants ready. On their first vacation in 2019, RM had a trip to several cities in Europe for 9 days with some of his friends. He had everything planned and even rented a car to go from one city to another. During their second vacation from the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022, RM posted lots of pictures of him enjoying himself in various attraction spots, especially museums, exhibitions, and galleries. His dedication didn’t stop at just the famous ones in big cities, but also those in the countryside with more than 3 hours of trips by car. His visit attracts a lot of ARMY visitors and art experts are singing praises for him. SUGA is pretty private about what he did during his day-offs and vacations. He mentioned making plans for his vacations but needed tremendous effort to actually do it on the set date. Jin even joked that SUGA still works and comes to the company building during their vacation, and SUGA retaliated that he did not consider making music as “working.” During group outings, SUGA usually took the role of the treasurer and made sure their supplies were enough. He usually would be in charge of grocery shopping

and cooking any meals the members wanted. He also actively met with his friends who wanted to meet him, as long as they had the date and place ready. But, he still has this flexibility to adjust with any of his trip buddies. If he sees that his trip buddy isn’t the one who is able to follow his preference, he doesn’t mind to follow theirs instead. This could be seen on their Bon Voyage to Hawaii, when he was paired with V on a night outing, he was content on following V’s ideas as he knew V would have some trouble following his preference.

JIN, JUNG KOOK, AND J-HOPE Jin and Jung Kook are also the types to plan their trip. But when traveling with others, they are content with letting their friends plan it out. Even when they have a schedule set for the day, they’re flexible and don’t mind the change of destination when it’s not available. Jung Kook even admitted that he needed someone to help persuade him to go out and take him for him to go on a trip. He opted to stay inside and play with his computer games, making some music, or working out. When being in charge, Jin would plan the trip down to the T. Take an example from his holiday vlog during their first vacation in 2019— as someone who loves fishing, Jin planned the entire fishing excursion at the open sea, rented a fishing ship, and went hours before sunrise. In early 2020, Jin also took his group members to his uncle’s strawberry farm.

travel funds. Though, when he goes alone, he needs to have a destination set to be motivated to go out.

During their long vacation at the beginning of 2022, J-hope took his family to Hawaii after watching their Permission to Dance On Stage in Los Angeles. Along with V’s family, J-hope is also content with following they visited Maui and Honolulu the plan on a group trip. During Bon trying vodka, enjoying the busking Voyage, he was seen to agree with performances, bathing in the sunlight, wherever the members wanted to go, and playing around on beaches and while simultaneously taking care of the pools. 25 |The Perfect Travel Buddies

V AND JIMIN Traveling with a group of friends, V doesn’t mind taking part in planning the trip and loves to take care of the fun things. Though when he’s traveling alone, he would just get ready and let his feet lead him. This reminds us of that one Instagram story of V where he was just driving through the streets of Hawaii and listening to his self-composed song with his GPS off. This flexibility also comes in handy when he gets lost, like the time in Sweden during Bon Voyage season 1. Instead of panicking, he explored his surroundings and enjoyed the landscape. In contrast to V, Jimin likes to plan things even when he’s traveling alone. During the group outings, he would join the planning process and voice his opinion about how their day would turn out. Jimin admitted he prefers to go out with friends, and said that he couldn’t live a day without talking with anyone. Thus, during their first vacation in 2019, Jimin visited Russia with some of his friends and visited Jeju Island during his latest vacation in early 2022.

Based on the result above, it’s clear how BTS complement each other during trips. When someone makes a plan, the others would be content to follow. They also assigned roles to each member to make the trip easier, like SUGA being the treasurer, Jin, J-hope, Jung Kook, and V being the drivers, while Jimin and RM giving directions. When an argument occurs, they would quickly meet in the middle by letting everyone say what’s on their mind first. If that doesn’t work, they would hold hands like how SUGA and V suggested.

Going on a trip with several people is challenging, even for those who like social settings. The article above is just an example of the importance of knowing the preferences of your companions before going on a trip with them. Ask your friends some questions about their preference during a trip, draw some conclusions like how we did with BTS members above, and voice yours as well. The trip would probably not be 100% successful, but it would prevent unnecessary arguments and fights from taking place. The Perfect Travel Buddies | 26
