Hello to our lovely readers. Sometimes, life gets so busy that we forget to stop and be thankful for the simpler things in our lives. But in a world of social distancing, even the simplest expressions of friendship and love, such as a hug or a handshake, can be overwhelming for many. Still, it’s important to express our gratitude for making it through another year, another month, or just another day. So with gratitude, our Borasaek Vision team would like to say thank you to our readers, our followers, our supporters, and our friends through our words. As we wrap up another year and bring a close to our second year of creating magazines for and about BTS and ARMY, we thought it would be nice to share some thoughts from some of our team members… Rebeca - Writing for Borasaek Vision has been a beautiful experience. Not only have I been able to explore my love for BTS in a creative way, but also develop my skills alongside an amazingly talented and kindhearted team. It's been one of the great highlights of my year, and I'm so thankful for everyone at BVM. Mama - Grateful for the love & many opportunities that helped me to grow & learn. Likewise, I hope my words & actions have helped others in some small way. Kels - I'm thankful for therapy. Mental health is very important, so I’m glad that I've continued on my healing journey.

Basabdatta - The past two years have been tough for all of us and BVM has been a healing and rejuvenating experience amid all the chaos. I am thankful for this little family of ours Be sure to join us in 2022, when our first issue of Volume 3 will be released, and remember: It’s okay come on when I say one two three forget it Erase all sad memories, hold my hand and smile - 2! 3!, BTS Thank you, and 보라해요!

THE
THOUGHT OF THE
GIFT Written By: LP Edited By: Mheer Checked By: Esma Designed by Inglydy
A gift is often meant to be something that’s used to commemorate a special occasion; a birthday, a wedding, and an anniversary are a few examples of occasions on which gifts are usually given. On other occasions, such as Christmas, there may be an exchange of gifts between several people. On the flip side, giving gifts without an occasion might seem rather odd. However, many fail to realize that people are given gifts daily in multiple forms, from the friends we cherish to the food we eat. There are people who do not enjoy these same privileges in life and so consider them gifts. That makes it clear that anything can be a gift, depending on our perspectives, which is also why we ask ourselves what we should buy for specific people on different occasions. Photo: Facebook
The value of a gift, too, depends on the receiver. Do they believe in monetary value? Time? Craft? Thoughtfulness? Each person is different after all, so, what constitutes a memorable gift would differ accordingly. The person giving the gift is also a key factor in its memorability. Some people may mean more to someone than others do and so a gift given by them would become more memorable than others. As artists, the perfect gift to give anyone is art and inspiration. Art, because it can be customized to the receiver however the artist sees fit. For BTS, this can mean anything from the lyrics to the melody and music video of their next project. The boys have always made their music special by using it as a means to communicate with their audience and fans. Their brand of music has earned them a wide fan base both nationally and internationally. Each song of theirs delivers a message to ARMY, almost in the form of a conversation. On several occasions, ARMY has put out songs of their own to carry on that conversation. Other ways in which they have both appreciated and returned the gift is by dedicating time to stream the septet’s music, break records, and even The Thought of the Gift | 14

create their own forms of art. Each one of us has a unique way of doing and interpreting things which defines our “personal brand.” Inspiration, as mentioned above, is one of the two most prominent gifts artists like BTS bestow upon gives hundreds of thousands of people around the world ideas to enhance their crafts which range from writing and storytelling to art, photography, and more. A whole new generation of creativity has been inspired by the septet and their music. Creative inspiration is open to anyone to receive, including other artists and musicians. The recent HYBE Insight “7 Phases” exhibition by James Jean is a classic example of this. Another touching example is Ed Sheeran, who is known to have been inspired by BTS, so much so that he wrote a song titled “Make It Right”, and to BTS’ amazement, gifted it to them. Sometimes, the members even treat themselves. J-hope’s “Chicken Noodle Soup” collaboration with Becky G could be considered a moment where an artist has created something as a tribute to their earliest musical inspirations. In celebrating his special memories, J-hope gifted the original artist in the form of royalties and then released it as a free mixtape track. Occasionally, though, songs released by the band are special. You can distinguish these specialties in their lyrics, music, and video (if there is one). Throughout the pandemic, during which restrictions meant that BTS couldn’t communicate with their fans in all meets. The only connection remaining was, 15 | The Thought of the Gift

indeed, electronic; a Twitter post, a song, a virtual concert. As such, in their spirit of giving, the boys went ahead and released both albums and singles as gifts to their fans. These last few years, their songs have taken on a different form in both lyricality and language. In several interviews prior to the COVID era, the boys were asked if they would ever release a track or album composed fully in English. Despite having said that it was unlikely, the boys took to releasing several full-length English tracks as a means to communicate better with their fans outside of Korea, too. A gift, of sorts. In addition to these, the band has acted as a symbol of hope for many of their fans which is yet another gift from them. Their songs often shed light on uncommon topics that resonate with more than a few people around the globe, including but not limited to bullying, mental illness, and the importance of self-love. On the other end of the spectrum, the boys, too, have said that their fans have given them hope and resolve to push through hardships in their career even when the band was on the verge of disbanding back in 2018. With the era of COVID, there were surely many more hardships both BTS and ARMY went through between loneliness, the loss of loved ones, and more. However, BTS tried their best to uplift the spirits of others by releasing more upbeat

a language more unfamiliar to them than their own in consideration of their international fanbase. They also released a Japanese and Korean album to keep up with their national and Japanese fanbases. Some of the members took to putting out personal projects as if in a one-on-one conversation with their fans such as Jung Kook’s “Still With You” in which he expressed how much he misses ARMY and how he is hopeful that things would start to go back to normal soon so they can see each other again. From all of this, we can deduce that giving is a huge part of BTS’ brand and that they are constantly thinking of their supporters and fans. During the pandemic in particular, they have tried their best to come up with ways to give in the form of music and online concerts. Not all gifts take on a serious tone though. The game ‘manito’ is played by many K-pop idols as a way of team building amongst the group’s members. The BTS members have also played this game several times, most often as part of their “Run BTS!” series, but also during their overseas schedules. Avid fans will fondly recall the episode where Jin had a very loud and animated meltdown after RM exclaimed that his ‘secret santa’ had only given him convenience store items. Jin however recited distinct memories that prompted each of his chosen gifts.
Photo: Facebook
Borasaek Vision
Another episode saw J-Hope create a CD especially for the release of “Promise,” Jimin’s first solo released song as a singer-songwriter. The beautifully packaged CD single included a book of photographic memories that J-Hope had shared with Jimin over the years. When it comes to gifts, we often hear the words, “it’s the thought that counts.” But how true is that? Yes, the thought definitely counts, but it’s also the actioning of those thoughts that translates into the physical act of giving and receiving. Without action, the thought remains unfulfilled. Giving a thoughtful gift and nurturing an environment where gifts mean something has become something of an art in itself. As part of their own brand, BTS has always lived in the spirit of giving back and many ARMYs have adopted this as part of their own personal brand as well, both giving back and paying-it-forward. Some gifts have long term impacts such as the planting of trees in honor of RM’s love for nature or fundraising ventures that go directly to assisting disadvantaged communities. Others incite and inspire creative endeavors that preserve precious memories and experiences. Special occasions add meaning, but the ability to give of one’s time, energy, and kindness isn’t bound by a calendar. These types of gifts can be given 24/7, 365 days of the year.

What makes a good role model? Have you ever encountered an article about the causes that BTS have donated to, or the ones ARMY have supported in their names? They are well known for using their power and influence for good, and we, ARMY, have also made it our mission to use our numbers and organizational skills to help others. These collective efforts to change the world for the better have been noticed, and more and more, have started to become one of the key elements people associate with our names. analogy, if a makeup company decided to publicly support animal rights, while at the same time testing their products on them, they would be seen as fake. Then, why are BTS seen as sincere? Fan bias aside, there are many reasons for this. One reason is the trend of people only finding out about BTS’ personal donations when they are revealed by the benefiting organizations instead of HYBE itself. To this, you can also add their frequent personal connections to various causes - an alma mater, hometown, or personal interest such as art books. Equally important is the fact that their actions line up with BTS’ long-term mission. Their music and messages have always been intended to protect the youth’s ideals, speak up against injustice, and create awareness about mental health, and self-love, from the very beginning. Hence, why they are considered sincere. Protecting others has

As their careers grew, they got bigger opportunities to help others. They’ve partnered with UNICEF to protect children from violence and spoken three times at the United Nations. In their most recent appearance, they attended as special presidential envoys for
future generations and culture, with the mission to give a voice to the youth, and raise awareness about climate change and vaccination. With so many good examples, it’s no wonder that ARMYs have become charitable, too. Probably the best-known example is OIAA, a fan charity project. Their motto, “I am One in an ARMY,” exemplifies how small individual efforts can create a big positive wave when we unite. Following BTS’ lead, we’ve contributed to children’s and teens’ health, education, and well-being, protected
endangered animals and the environment, and overall, supported a variety of causes to help solve the issues that we see in the world. Are you inspired by BTS and ARMY’s actions, but don’t know where to start? Here’s a quick guide for you! How do you choose a cause to support? When choosing a cause, it’s important to know what matters to you, if you want to support it by yourself or collectively, and if there are any additional motivations at play. First and foremost, know your values. Write down what problems you’re concerned about, be local or global, and deeply consider your capabilities and responsibilities. Are there actions you can take within your day-to-day life, or do you need to support a bigger organization? Maybe you can do a lot right away, or maybe you should start small, instead. However, this could all be very intimidating if you try to do it all by yourself. We

recommend taking a look at the communities you’re a part of, and exploring where your values align with theirs. Just like OIAA brings BTS fans together to support the causes that matter to them, your other communities could give you a chance to do good in different ways. Ask around about what they care about, if they have initiatives already, or even suggest some yourself. You would be surprised to find how many people are willing to help if someone steps forward and takes the lead. Finally, consider if you want to choose a cause for a particular reason. You could choose one based on your life experiences, media you’ve consumed, people you admire, in memory of someone, as a gift, a work assignment, or any other reason. Make sure to choose something meaningful and consistent with your values and the values of everyone else involved. How do you choose a reliable charity? Research is essential here. such great role models. “So show me, I’ll show you.” BTS showed us that good actions can create a domino effect capable of changing the world, and ARMY showed them that together, we can move mountains.
“I’m a new generation Anpanman, I’m a new superhero Anpanman.” BTS and ARMY can become everyday-heroes. This is what we’re known for, and we can use this strength for the best if we choose to. We can
make people listen to our voices, raise awareness, and take action to solve the problems that we see. In the end, that’s the real value of BTS’ charitable brand— it’s not just a means to look good; we live it every day, in everything we do.
