It was a great day for Law Enforcement and the children of the Youth Ranches. The Tampa Bay Biker community came out in force, 250 plus participants, to honor law enforcement and give back to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. Everyone was very gracious and what was obvious were all the new faces from our biker community, some coming as far as Ft. Meyers to participate. We are thankful to everyone who made the event a success, especially Harley-Davidson of Brandon who was the Presenting

Sponsor, The Fran Haasch Law Group for the event t-shirts and of course Born To Ride who made a good event great. We also need to thank Sheriff Chronister of Hillsborough County for presenting the Best Hand trophy that was designed and created by Rev. Jim of Preachers Hot Rod Cycle Design & Racing for Orphans. No event is possible without the support of so many. Thank go out to Fireade, ServiceMaster 24 Hour, Krewe of Alegria, Skull Jewelry & More, Salty Shamrock, Peggy’s
Corral, The Beer Shed, and Boots n Badges. I could not have asked for a better team to accomplish what we set out to accomplish. At the end of the day, we raised just over $5,500 for the children and honored our Law Enforcement at the same time. Special recognition to the hard-working volunteers. Without them, these events are not possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and for making a difference in our community. Wayne Witczak Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches

Basically bikes. I started my career doing a lot of them, not my career but early in my career, I did about 11 biker films in five years, most for Roger Corman. We had a group of us, four or five of us, Jack Nicholson, myself, Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, Michael Parks. We would be the guys that would do the biker movies. There was a lot of acid and stuff in those movies, so they were kind of drive-in movies. Nobody’s ever made a really great motorcycle movie. Ours were kind of exploitation movies for drive-ins. That’s what they did. We’d make them for about $160,000 in 10 days. They’d make five or six million dollars in the drive-in. Then, they made a company called American International Pictures AIP and Roger Corman. What attracted me to this material was the dialogue and the care for relationships that weren’t working and were broken. From what you just saw

in there these people would carry on like that in front of a sevenyear-old little kid is disgusting, but I’ve had people in my life that have done such things. I’m sure a lot of other people have too. I like the fact that somebody wrote that down with a passion to get that on screen. People see it. I don’t know what Tom’s background is, but trust me, there is something going on there that was seen in this movie. It makes sense, and it works. The most interesting thing about it is, its audience oriented because there’s no age group that you see this movie except anyone between 10 and 80 or 90. (%#@*) I’m 80. It’s just because. ... The bikes aren’t what the movie’s about. The movie’s about behavior, people, heart, courage, and this girl being out to go out there and get (%#@*) done. When I was 11-years-old, my mother said to me, “How come you never come home after school? Your track practice, ‘because I was a big runner,’ “is over by 4:30 or a quarter til 5:00. You’re never home until 6:15. What do you do?” I didn’t have a good relationship with my mother. I said, ‘Well, I go out and do stuff. I have a friend. I go out and do stuff.’ “What
do you do that’s more important than coming home and being on time for things here.” In my house, you had to wear white gloves to dinner and dress in a suit for every dinner for 18 years from the time I was three years old. I said, ‘I’ll tell you what I do, mother. Me and my friend get (%#@*) up.’ That’s what I loved about whoever wrote this script because he may have waited until later in his life, but he’s saying, “Hey, folks, if you want to go these kinds of routes, this is what can happen.” It is people because their human spirit rose above it and, excuse the expression, but got sh**t done. You know what I mean? The whole thing that I say in the movie about one man, one horse, and this is what it is, it’s synonymous with the bikers. The thing that’s neat about it is this is not a Western, but it is what the Westerns were about. This is a Western because it’s still on motorcycles, which is why people left east St. Louis every April and went 15 miles a day in a covered wagon or on a horse all the way to Sacramento and not for gold. This was even before gold. They went because they knew the following phrase if you take

the song that’s what this movie is about in the bike culture, “The bear went over the mountain. The bear went over the mountain, and what do you think he saw? What he saw was a chance for a bigger tapestry like the pioneers saw.” That’s why when these guys get on bikes with the old ladies on the back or not, they are doing something no one else is really doing. They’re getting out there. They’re not risking their lives, but they’re risking finding what they really want to find. It’s like in Catcher in the Rye Holden Caulfield when he says he wanted to just grab the brass ring. That’s all these folks want to do. They just don’t want to be hassled by people along the way and all the negativity about bikers and outlaw motorcycle gangs and everything else. All the bikers I was around, and I was around Sonny Barger and all the Hell’s Angels in Oakland and San Bernardino and everything else and the bonafide outlaw guys. On my jacket in this movie, it says one percent here. That’s because they’re the one percent of society that thinks they don’t belong or don’t fit. All they want you to do is just accept them. They want to be accepted. Everyone that I knew in the days, we were going in the 60s, were all Korean veterans. They were the most patriotic guys I ever knew. Their biggest day of the year was Memorial Day. Now, they don’t even celebrate it on Memorial Day, but all the bikers do. They wait until the 30th of May. That’s when they celebrate it because that’s when it is. There’s a history here that in the movie makers and the crew and the productivity. I’m here one day, and I saw 20 days of work done in a day because everybody pulled their oar. It’s very rare to see. We’re talking wildcat crews. I don’t know where all you came from. I don’t think you’ve done 10 movies together, you know what BTR 34 | BORNTORIDE.COM
I mean? It’s a joy to see. It’s a light. There’s an energy here that’s really interesting, but the biggest thing is the story itself and the pictures that the story will show you because the man didn’t make a movie about bikers. He made a movie about people. As long as he stays that way, this kid will do big stuff. As long as people like you have faith in a kid like that, to hang in there with him. ... He’s got problems. He’s gotta learn about time constraints. He’s gotta learn about how he doesn’t have as much to spend as he thinks he does, but he molded a group of people together in a short period of time that works just like a team. I never heard anybody yell today. I never heard an argument. I never saw anything. It was just smooth. That is really rare. If the folks get out and see this movie when it gets out and you gotta get it out there … and it will get out there. I don’t know who you go to, you show it to distributors. Any distributor would be nuts not to pick up a movie like this because this is money. I’m not saying it’s gonna win Oscars or anything like that, but it’s gonna get the folks’ attention and not just the folks that go to biker movies but people that want to know why we behave the way we do in times of crisis. That’s what this does. You have a little girl’s point of view, an older man’s point of view, a guy in prison’s point of view, and the community’s point of view. That’s really all I have to say, but that’s what you got here. You got lightning in a bottle. If you carry it on from here, you’re good. We are proud to announce Nation’s Fire is ready for your viewing. The VIP screening is underway. You, as members of our cast are invited to spend the evening with us as we host our red carpet premiere celebrating a biker lifestyle milestone and legacy of film in Florida. The Cherokee Blue Ridge Run made a thunderous return to the Smokies, with a weekend full of bikes and bands Sept. 7-9 at the Cherokee Fairgrounds. The event was filled with adventure, stunts, and live bands including classic rock superstars Molly Hatchet and Vince Neil. While Molly Hatchet and Vince Neill were the headliners, there was music all weekend, including Blackfoot, the Michael Allman band, and regional favorites that have developed quite a following. There were more than musicians performing – motorcycles were in the spotlight, of course. New this year to the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run … flat track racing, in partnership with Jason Griffin Racing. On Saturday they
also had action on the oval track one mile from the fairgrounds on Acquoni Road. Back at the fairgrounds, they had the American Motor Drome Company’s Wall of Death. The vintage live-action thrill show featured a barrel-shaped wooden cylinder 30-feet in diameter. Daredevils rode along the vertical wall inside the drome performing tricky, fancy, and acrobatic riding. Circus Una rode on a tightrope high above the fairgrounds, and Teach McNeil was amazing with the stunts he did on a stock BMW. We also witnessed the Trick Trials rider and balance master Adam Holbrook defying the laws of gravity. All of the concerts and stunt shows were included with the price of admission, which
was very reasonable; $15 for an individual day ticket, and $30 for an entire weekend pass. Kids 16 and under got in free when accompanying a paying adult. This was a family-friendly event, we encourage the next generation of enthusiasts to discover today’s great sport of motorcycling. Even those who’ve been enjoying the open road for years fell in love with motorcycle life all over again. The Rally included custom bike shows and factory demo rides. Everyone liked the ‘try before they buy.’ Just riding in to meet up with other like-minded fans of all things two-wheeled was exciting. Word on the street is there were even more vendors than last year, and next year is expected to be even bigger and better. So, see you in 2019.

COVER STORY
Spyke & Mike Good Times Coming In Fall
Summer has come to an end, my BTR friends. By the calendar, fall has officially rolled in. But, you would never know it ‘cause it’s still hotter than six shades of hell out there. I heard Mike babbling early this morning that he doesn’t even want to go to the beach or get in the pool because it’s like bath water. I just squawk at him, ‘Yes, even Satan is sweating right now but it could be worse, we could be up north where it’s flooding and they’re getting cold snaps.’ Mike giggles and replies, “That reminds me of an interesting question: If a redhead goes crazy, do you call her Ginger snaps? Well anyways, you’re right Spyke! At least the Peterson’s Poker Run wasn’t disrupted except for the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. That gave us the chance to stop for a few cold ones and hang out with friends along the route. Some we haven’t seen in years, and others we just met at a previous stop before the last storm.” “It’s a good thing we’ve been down there so many times that I knew where most of the Spyker friendly watering holes were. It’s rather amazing how we can go to one place and you’re welcomed like royalty. Then, we stop at another joint and you’re being kicked out before us humans even get served! I mean they act like they’ve never seen a service parrot on a Harley before. Let alone give her a seat at the bar. ... I don’t have a problem picking up and leaving an establishment like that. Money flies out of my wallet faster at a venue that appreciates you, but some of our friends we ride with don’t think so. They’d rather stand around and haggle with the manager
or owner when I just laugh at them and say on the way out, hey, it’s their loss. Let’s blow this dump and find a better one! I know from being in the biz that it takes more than one violation to close anything down or even get fined. So, if it takes just one more health code violation to put this place over the edge, then they need to correct the other 5 or 10 violations that got them to this point in the first place. And the last thing I want to do is feed y’all, me, or Spyke something from a dirty diner.” “Speaking of places that appreciate us, Bill Church and The Lube are on a red-hot roll right now. With the greatest bands, the hardest working staff, and new chicken wing sauces to try, we’ve been hitting that place every Wednesday. Occasionally showing up on weekends for the charitable events that have been hosted there. We are all about making The Lube great again and it’s working!” I cackle, ‘Buddy you are so right. It really is the best bike night on the planet and I have so much fun going there. I’ve been giving out a lot of those F.O.S. patches to my avid readers and fans. If you can’t make it there to see me and acquire one, get ahold of Mike birdmanmike1@yahoo.com and we’ll zip it out to you the old-fashioned way.’ Mike babbles, “Are you going to get some of your carrier pigeon friends to drop ship them?” I chirp, ‘You’re just rambling on today like a town crier. No ding-dong! We’ll be going postal and you’re licking the stamps! Maybe that glue will keep what’s left of your brain stuck inside you.’ He asks, “Will it cement the voices in my head that are talking to me now?” I put one wing over my beak and quack, ‘Dude, now you’re a few beers short of a six-pack and there is no convenience store in sight. It must be time for an afternoon nap.’ Mike turns and replies, “I’ve got no time for sleeping. Halloween is on a Wednesday this year, and I’m busy working on our costumes for the big event at The Lube. Then, Bert’s St. Pete Beach Bike Fest is just 2 weeks later, and I still need to wax your surfboard, round up your beach gear, and buy you a new pair of shades. You broke your old ones while playing in the pool last month.” I cackle, ‘Yeah, I was having way too much fun with the chick-a-dees and things got a little wild. Those tiny little squawkers really know how to swim. I just couldn’t catch anyone playing Marco Polo. I really liked my glasses and it’s hard to find a pair that fits me. I think you got them from Mike the sunglass dude who’s always set up at The Lube.’ “Spyke, you’re right, I did! Today is Super Wednesday. That means the Bearded Brothers are playing. The whole BTR crew will be out in force doing the radio show, TV taping and we’ll be there. Everything is going on the back burner except for your glasses, so I’m dragging the scoot out of the garage. Hurry up and proof your story. We need to make like your bird friends in the pool and get the flock outta here! I feel the need to get my knees in the breeze, your wings in the wind, and the Fat Bird 2 wheels rolling down the road!”

Ray V. Gordon is the owner and founder of a new business based in SW Florida called Leather Lid Inserts. He’s coined the phrase “We take the sag out of the bag” because that is exactly what they do. Ray has been riding motorcycles since he was 14-years-old and has watched the motorcycle industry grow and is glad to be a part of what it is today. After 35 years of owning and operating a successful aluminum company in Fort Myers, Ray sold the business so he could retire— he thought and bought himself a new Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. And just like everyone else with leather saddlebags his bags started to sag and cave-in. He saw a need to fix this
problem. Ray says, “Starting this new business was something I just fell into by fixing my own saddlebags, and then friends of friends and others wanted me to fix their saddlebags too!” As an inventor and entrepreneur, Ray took his creative background and put his skills to work by experimenting with several different types of materials to finally come up with a patented lid and bag reinforcement kit that is designed to help keep the original shape of any leather saddlebag made on the market. So, if you’re tired of looking at your caved-in leather saddlebags, or if you have brand-new bags and want to prevent them from ever caving-in, please keep Leather Lid Inserts in mind. The highgrade epoxy coating we use is second to none; we can even remove most Kreem and Red-Kote liners. We have a fast turnaround time; it’s the easiest thing you’ll do all week. At Self-Protection Essentials, we are here to empower you to be able to get the time you need to get to safety. We empower you to be able to “get home for dinner” ... with or without a weapon. Are you ready for the most important 5 seconds of your life? Over the course of our lifetime, violent crime has gone up dramatically! In Florida, there are 19 times more violent crimes and rapes than there were in the ‘60s! Taking into account the growth of our population, you are almost 400% more likely to be directly impacted by a violent crime. Food for thought ... active shooter survival? Some people in the media would have you believe that it is an oxymoron (opposites that cannot coexist). We can demonstrate that surviving an active shooter situation is not just possible, but that you can actually save many lives in the process. Imagine being in a nightclub near a major city, when someone (or something), comes in and starts shooting the place up. Regardless of what firearm they are using, when it runs of ammo, what do they have? When they are shooting, if they have a handgun, then when they run out of ammo all they have is a metal rock. If they were shooting a rifle, and when they run out of ammo all they have is a metal stick. I don’t know about you but I’m not afraid of a metal stick. If you are wondering, “What about when he reloads?” The answer to that is simple ... Don’t let him reload! The average person can travel 21 feet in 1.5 seconds. The average person can reload a rifle in 4-6 seconds. That means if you are within 60 feet of the shooter, you can get there with time to spare. If you feel like you need more time than that, have someone throw stuff at his head. Each item on target will buy you another second of “free” time (about 15 feet). Stay Safe! “I highly recommend Richards Classes, not everyone is nice, BE PREPARED!” Ron Galletti
