THE SHARK
Street Strategies at Work
Imagine a typical scene from a nature-network documentary, one that shows a fur seal frantically swimming with a great white shark in ruthless pursuit, the huge snout of the shark filling the television screen. In the corresponding street scene, you’re riding your motorcycle down a wide arterial street when a huge sedan closes in on you, its grille filling your mirrors. Just as you change lanes to get out of this car-shark’s path, the tailgater also changes lanes behind you. What are your best strategies for avoiding (or evading) this situation? Strategy: As soon as you notice a tailgater approaching in your mirrors, take steps to get out of
the way. Activate your turn signal and make an obvious, decisive lane change to the right or left. If the car is already upon you before you notice its presence, take care before making a move to avoid the “shark pursuit” situation described above. When evading a shark, signal early and pause for just an instant (to make sure that the tailing driver isn’t also planning to change into the same lane) before making a definite and decisive move into the other lane. Your actions should clearly communicate your intentions to the other driver so he is fully aware of what moves you intend to make. For more safety information go to www.msf-usa.org

counties fully escorted by the Florida Highway Patrol, ending at Seminole HarleyDavidson in Sanford. The ride also includes a 17-mile stretch through Interstate 4, which the Florida Highway Patrol and Seminole County Sheriff’s officials will shut down just for the participants. The Sam Swope Memorial Charity Ride is the biggest fundraising event held in central Florida benefiting Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Tampa. This year, the ride’s proceeds will benefit more than 2,500 active patients from central Florida who receive specialized care from Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa. The ride is named for the late Sam Swope, an auto dealer and philanthropist who also was a Shriner. Noble Swope built a single dealership into the nation’s 69th largest BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 11
dealership group and donated millions to charities for children, animals and elderly people. In 2009, he helped Bahia Shriners begin the ride that has raised more than $1.5 million for the Tampa Shriners hospital. Your involvement will help the Shriners open the Tampa Hospital to even more children from central Florida and across the state who need specialized care. Those include Leigh Dittman, a 15-year-old patient who raised more than $1 million for the hospital. “I’m grateful to everyone that supports this important motorcycle event, these funds are changing lives, like mine at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa,” Leigh said. After the ride, participants are invited to stay for a free lunch and bid on live and silent auction items, including guitars signed by Kid Rock, the Eagles, the Bellamy Brothers and Kim Betts, as well as pit passes to the 2016 NASCAR race at Homestead – Miami and to the 2017 Daytona 500 and various gift packages. This year’s ride also picked up new sponsors and celebrity supporters. BTR 12 | BORNTORIDE.COM
“This year, the Sam Swope Memorial Charity Ride Committee is proud and excited to welcome financial adviser Michelle Osborne of Wall Street to Main Street as a sponsor,” committee chairman Mitch Lokken said. Ms. Osborne toured Shriners Hospitals for Children – Tampa in November and learned about the expert specialty care provided regardless of a family’s ability to pay. She knew right away she wanted to get involved and support the ride that has made a difference for Shriners kids. “We are so happy she has chosen to support the Sam Swope Memorial Charity Ride and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Her energy and passion for riding motorcycles and what she has seen at the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Tampa will help out greatly. We are lucky to have her on our team, and her sponsorship will go a long way into helping children.” This year’s ride also caught the attention of Leticia Cline, an actress and model who has worked as an interviewer for TNA Wrestling and starred in the reality television series “Beauty and the Geek.”

Ms. Cline, a Kentuckian who now lives in the Orlando area, rides with a group called the Iron Lilies and plans to participate in the Sam Swope ride. “Her knowledge of motorcycles and her passion to be on the road and sometimes even ‘off-road’ is energizing,” Lokken said. “Leticia and her group of riders will be a great addition. Otherwise, stay the course. Loyalty is devotion. It is a principle to be adhered to by best friends. It needs to tether your marital relationship. It needs to be placed in indelible ink inside your mind regarding your family, country and spiritual beliefs. Where is loyalty in marriage? Loyalty begins with “until death do us part.” Compromise is absolutely mandatory in order for a marriage to last. Is it easy? No. Do two people sometimes need to go their separate ways? Yes. However, in Corporate America, loyalty has been abandoned. Companies are adjusting their payrolls based to their quarterly results. Many times they use the economy as an excuse to trim their budgets and ultimately their staff. Loyalty to the all-mighty dollar is the only loyalty. It is what it is. Loyalty. It needs to be taken out of storage and showcased. Be true to you. Devote yourself to being the best you can be. Be loyal to your body. Take care of it. Be loyal to your dreams. Never abandon them without giving it your all. Be loyal to being positive. Be loyal to the people that have propped you up and helped you be the person you’ve become. And never let the lack of loyalty from another person or group alter your loyalty to yourself. Don’t be the victim. Don’t be the judge. And if you really need loyalty, look in the mirror. Then go get a dog. P.S. Thank you to the thousands of followers for being loyal to me the past four decades. It’s greatly appreciated.

Women’s World
February is the month for lovers. After all, mid-month is Valentine’s Day. Therefore, what a great month for spreading love and passion—for living life Extraordinarily. My heart is filled with enormous joy, gratitude, and passion at being able to share my newly released book with the world. I seek to be the “Wake Up” call for the masses who are simply existing as tourists’ in their own lives. My book “Screw Cancer: Live Life Passionately” is meant to be a voluntary wake up call for everyone not just those diagnosed with cancer. Don’t wait to live your dreams and change your life from ordinary to extraordinary until you are involuntarily forced to. Sometimes we are forced to change and see life in a whole new light due to such things as: family death, illness, divorce, loss of income etc. Being forced to change is a very difficult way to transform yourself and your life. Instead of waiting for a time where you have no choice, how about if you begin today to voluntarily create your life your way.
In the book I use my experience with cancer as a wake up call to others. My life is just extraordinary, and it was forced lessons that I was bless to learn that made it possible. How many of you waste your time on things that do not matter at the end? How many live with anger and bitterness towards someone? Are you being critical or judgmental, believing your way is the only right way to live? Are you whining and complaining about things such as: your work, boss, income, your weight, looks? How about traffic, are you complaining when you’re stuck in traffic? How about being grateful that you can be in traffic and are not bedridden. How about sharing your love and compassion for your fellow human beings? Why not look for any little way you can help others and put a smile on their face? If only we could all see how much time we spend on nonsense and how short our journey is in the life. If we would just let go of the useless nonsense and help each other. Stop the nonsense, and stop the excuses for not reaching your goals. Do not doubt your abilities. Get out there and try something totally new and outside your comfort zone. Every time you step out of your box you will get more confident and realize how much power you have in you. Believe in yourself. The time to start is right now. EQ Women Succeeds believes in you. Come join the EQ LifeStyle. HISTORY OF BARNEY’S: BARNEY AND ROSALEE • 2
THE BARNEY’S STORY BEGAN OVER seventy years ago, with Harry “Barney” Barclay and his lovely wife, Rosalee. The young couple were born and raised in the Bloomington, Illinois area. Barney and his friends always had a love of riding motorcycles, and Barney had a natural gift for fixing them. Soon after meeting and marrying Barney, Rosalee became a motorcycle lover as well. During World War II, they had to work hard to make ends meet. They were both employed in defense work at the Chicago Bridge and Iron shipyard. Rosalee was one of three comptometer (early calculator) workers who did payroll for about 10,000 men and Barney worked in the shipyards. After the war, they settled down in Normal, Illinois with their two young daughters, Beverly and Barbara. They decided to start a business which would allow them to earn a living utilizing their passion for motorycles, and Barney’s talent for fixing them. In the garage behind their house, Barney began a motorcycle service business and Rosalee handled the office duties. They soon outgrew their little garage and moved to Bloomington, Illinois. There, with a $500 loan, they were able to open their first Indian Dealership, which they named The Wigwam. Both Barney and Rosalee shared their love of riding with the community. They were active members of local riding groups and organized early bike shows, motorcycle rides, and racing competitions. In 1948, they decided that their business could really thrive in a better year-round climate. They packed what they could into a trailer and drove halfway across the country—and south—to Ojus, Florida (near Miami,) where they lived near relatives. The young couple had to strug-

gle to make ends meet in their new area. Barney worked on motorcycles during the day in his uncle’s garage while Rosalee looked after the girls. At night, Barney would babysit their daughters, and frequently took them to Abbott and Costello movies, while Rosalee went to work as a waitress at a hotel on Miami Beach.

The Barclay family lived on a very meager income. There was not enough business in that small town, so they could not afford to stay. In fact, one day, Beverly was doing cartwheels in their rental house and accidentally kicked over a lamp. Rosalee spent three days carefully gluing each piece together since they could not afford to replace it. But, better times were ahead. They had friends from Illinois, Corky and Alvin, who were happily living in St. Petersburg and convinced Barney and Rosalee to join them. Once again, their little family was on the move. This time with a new family addition, their dog Blackie! They put what they could fit into a trailer, and Barney and some relatives rode their motorcycles from Ojus to St. Petersburg. In those days, the motorcycle headlights were very dim and there were no streetlights. On their moving trip, they had to ride the motorcycles in front of the truck so they could see the road! Even though the lights were dim, a bright, new adventure on Gandy Boulevard in St. Petersburg was about to begin!

Barney’s Will Treat You Right
To start with, I would like to thank Monica Maltese for helping me map out a nice ride in a part of Brandon that often has a lot of traffic. You will occasionally find Monica working at Barney’s, helping out Nancy Hempstead with special events like the huge one in February. I always look forward to setting up at Barney’s of Brandon because they treat me like family there. If you are looking to purchase a motorcycle, or wanting to service one, I would highly recommend this dealership. They will treat you right. Some of the roads on this ride are ones you will see if you happen to take a test

ride at the dealership. On Queen Palm Drive you will find some speed bumps, but you can avoid them by riding in between them. On some of the country back roads you always need to watch for sand or gravel or tree branches in the road. Please be aware of road conditions whenever you ride. You might come across some potholes on Williams Road, so please be careful and watch for them. Some of the best back roads are not always maintained very well. This ride should help you avoid traffic in the area and provide you with a little bit of scenery along the way. In all of my
scenic ride map books, I avoid freeways and try to stay away from congested areas. A scenic ride should be relaxing and enjoyable, without seeing too many cars or traffic. There are so many parts of Florida that are very enjoyable on a motorcycle. If you know where to find these hidden gems, then you can have a great day of riding. It is my passion to share all the great back roads I have found, so other riders can have a safe and memorable experience. Always remember to get in the wind and stay safe while doing so. Steve Finz

Happy New Year As the New Year begins, I wanted to discuss what most people are talking about today, interest rates and what may happen. Also how it impacts the normal person. If you are worried, you can’t enjoy riding your motorcycle. I think this a very important subject to discuss with an unpredictable environment. Also if you are thinking of buying that toy hauler, motorcycle or truck to haul them in, do it as soon as you, can rates are moving. Most of it will impact the average consumer dramatically and they are not aware of it. The Federal Reserve made history Dec. 16, finally raising the fed funds target range by 25 basis points to 0.25-0.50 percent after SEVEN years at the zero bound. We anticipate a gradual increase but steady, though not quite as gradual as the market is currently talking about. We expect three 25 basis point hikes in 2016 and another three in 2017, with the next hike likely to occur at the March 2016 Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Our analysis suggests the terminal rate in this cycle will be in the range of 2.5–3.0 percent, below the Fed’s estimate of 3.5 percent, which should help to keep 10-year Treasury yields under 3 percent. If history is a guide, stock markets typically experience an initial pullback of 5–10 percent in the months following the first rate hike in a tightening cycle. Historically, though, the S&P has ultimately performed well during recent tightening cycles, returning a cumulative 15 percent, on average, in the first two years of the last three years of the Fed increasing interest rates.( Information BTR 42 | BORNTORIDE.COM
source Raymond James analyst division) Some people are concerned about their retirement accounts as the upcoming year may affect them very much. The markets are not for everyone. Let me say that again. The markets are not for everyone. I work daily with Wall Street and Bond markets and I can tell you to consider what stage of life you are in and how long you have until you retire or need the money as well as your overall net worth. Unless you want to experience a real roller coaster ride. Me personally, I prefer to save that for Disney or Busch Gardens or even snowmobile jumps. Not my retirement account. Historically the markets go in cycles and if history repeats itself, 2016 will be a real roller coaster of a ride. If you look back over the history of the stock and bond markets typically it has lost significant value and stayed down the entire year. All of us remember 2008, who doesn’.t right? Well the one thing I know for certain is that with an election year, Fed’s raising interest rates and the 7 year itch in the markets, economics dictates a correction in stock and bond markets. If you have a retirement account where you work. Get defensive about where the investment is and learn, learn and learn some more about your options. Using a defensive approach in a volatile economy will help you with the ups and downs in the upcoming New Year. If you think about it, it is common sense. When stock markets and the economy as a whole take a temporary turn downward or they are unpredictable as to what happens. The best defense is to preserve your money as much as possible while continuing to look for good opportunities. People only buy what they need in a crazy economy which in my opinion where we are headed; at least temporarily. So here is a tip: “I look for investments that will reflect my goals, short-term and long-term, as opposed to short-term volatility”. This is my world, if you don’t understand what may happen in the upcoming year, I can help you look at what you have and make some sound decisions. If rates go as predicted, the average consumer applying for a home may be
priced out of the market. That new bike or hauler may cost you more to finance, so another typical rule of thumb is it is great to finance something but make sure you are making more money on your money than the cost of the credit. If you can move your retirement account to your own name, this is a must. If you are over 55 you must protect yourself we are headed for some ups and some downs. It took us 8 years to recover from 2008. Ask yourself the simple question; do I have 8 years to recover from a floundering economy again? The other thing I ask people is; What is your exit strategy? What do I want to do if I can’t or don’t want to do what I am doing now for income. Look at how to provide for your family’s financial health Ask yourself these questions and play defense. Every morning when I box I have to make sure I am protecting my face with one hand and hitting with the other. Same thing in life and in your financial situation. Go for maximum return (the punch)but protect that hard earned money (the guard) on the downside and protect your business with certain hedge strategies. Make sure you let someone like myself look at your investments or retirement accounts for that guard and maximum return. Right before the spring rally at Panama City Beach in late April, 2015, a new motorcycle dealership opened just down the road from the fairly new Harley-Davidson dealership. Indian Motorcycle of Panama City Beach now occupies the entire brand new strip mall building. I got the chance to talk to the owner, Derek Kelley, at the autumn rally and took a test ride on the Indian. Derek recently sold his Crystal River, Florida Harley-Davidson dealership. He still currently owns the Harley dealership in Ocala, but he also loves the challenge of overseeing a new (1901) reborn franchise backed by a multi- billion dollar corporation, Polaris.
Not only did he acquire the rights to sell Indian, the package also included Victory and the new Polaris “Slingshot.” He is ecstatic to have all three brands, as well as the Polaris E-Bicycles. The Slingshot is the Batmobile, a pure Hollywood type vehicle. All ages, all genders are fascinated by it and the owners love them. Derek has been riding since he was 8 years old. He grew up in the Florida Gulf Coast area and has always loved it. Now approaching middle age, he is now a two-up cruiser with his wife. As far as his favorite rides, he feels they are all subjective, but riding to Harley’s 100th Anniversary in Wisconsin, riding to Sturgis, riding from Ocala

Business owners (bars, etc.) were happier with this autumn rally than in the past from what he was told in various conversations. “The weather was awesome, and the vendors got to come from Daytona Biketoberfest to here. Craven Moorehead called! I certainly wasn’t expecting to hear from her but to an extent the surprise call was sort of welcomed. This statement is being based upon the fact that I really don’t have any friends and expected nothing but the silence and solitude that the simple country life offers. Her offer was too irresistible to ignore, and I accepted it less than reluctantly because I needed some diversion and excitement. You must understand her gorgeousness to relate to this story. She is extremely beautiful, and everywhere I go in her company people are envious and jealous. Let me explain. The fire has been lit in Florida with a new action-thriller that is destined to be a hit amongst the biker family—Nation’s Fire has started to take shape. Ron Galletti, producer/publisher of Born To Ride TV & magazine will be on the creative side, taking his new film venture by storm, with his role as producer of the upcoming film that will star (also be produced by) the very beautiful and talented Krista Grotte who starred in The Emerging Past, Lazarus: Apocalypse, (both available on DVD and streaming services) and the upcoming Check Point film. If Ms. Grotte looks very familiar to the Born To Ride magazine she should … she was a former on air host for the Born To Ride weekly television show. The film will be written, directed, and also produced by the multi-award winning independent filmmaker, Thomas J. Churchill. Mr. Churchill has written and directed the last
three films that Krista has starred in. However, this is the first time Mr. Galletti and Mr. Churchill will join creative forces, but their backgrounds suggest an action-packed film with some serious twists. This new power trio has big plans with their first project together–Nation’s Fire. They have been scouting all over Florida, looking for special locations to film. When asked on his vision for this new exciting biker thriller, Mr. Churchill replied, “Easy Rider is the Holy Grail of biker films … I would love to make a film as great and beloved as that … we plan to come real close.” They have been tight-lipped on the story and who will be involved, but if Mr. Churchill’s most recent film Check Point is any indication, stand by for some action. The trio plan on shooting a slate of films in and around the Florida area with other joint projects to be named later. When asked

about Hollywood coming to Florida, Mr. Galletti replied, “We here at Born To Ride are very excited to have Hollywood come to Florida and maybe make Florida ‘the place’ to shoot films.” Born To Ride will be along to document the making of Nation’s Fire and will be first to bring you exclusive up to date information on the making of this exciting film. Kind of like the Nation’s Fire journal. Stay abreast and updated on casting, locations shooting, and on the new power trio of Galletti, Grotte and Churchill (GGC). Biker Movie Review
Confusion and chaos pretty much sums up this movie. It is the modern day version of all the biker exploitation “B” movies ever made. Curiously, Larry Bishop (as Pistolero) appeared in a variety of films including The Savage Seven, Mad Dog Time and Kill Bill to name a few. His collaboration with Quentin Tarantino in this most recent effort, would lead one to believe that “Hell Ride” is a major cinematic production destined for the A list. Sadly, it falls short of that mark. The story revolves around Pistolero and his gang “the Victors.” The main characters are himself, the Gent and Comanche who set out to avenge the death of his ol lady Cherokee Kisum. Cherokee, it seems, was murdered by the 666er’s, a rival gang. But wait, let’s back up! This is exactly what makes the flick so confusing. … We flash back and forth from 35 years back to 35 years forward. It seems that Bishop as the writer, director,
and star is the only one who understands what is going on at any given time. I was lost after viewing it twice, but again I digress. The film is soaked with girls, drugs, and murder. I like all those facets in a biker exploitation film, but the chaotic pace leaves one wondering where the plot is. It seems the Victors MC have an underlying code of deceit and distrust. As the movie rolls along, several of the members of gang are killed by the Gent and other Victors— leaving only Pistolero, the Gent, and Comanche in the gang. Ahhh, but there is another member hiding in the desert! Eddie Zero, played by Dennis Hopper appears as a (possibly retired) member of the gang. How they were able to get Hopper to appear in this mess was a mystery in itself, and I was surprised, and entertained for a moment until I saw David Carradine playing rival gang member “The Duce.” Evidently, the Duce and Pistolero had some under-the-table dealings and this conflict led to the ongoing battle between the two clubs. The 666er’s use arrows and darts to carry out their hits while the Victors use the more conventional revolvers, available at WalMart. The Victors trademark murders–you will see a few of these involve the tying of one to a chair, the cutting of the throat, and the soaking of the subject in gasoline, which is then ignited by the tossing of a Zippo lighter, also available at Wal-Mart. Somewhere in my recall, it seems to me that this ritual was borrowed from the 666er’s when they did in Cherokee Kisum. In the end, the Victors cut off the Duce’s head, and Eddie Zero delivers it to the 666er’s

hangout in a nice wicker basket (see Wal-Mart above). He departs and rides off down the road until his motor quits for some reason. He gets off his vintage ride to repair it, and sees the 666er’s pull up behind him. The leader of the 666er’s, (played by Vinnie Jones) shoots him in the back with a dart fired from an air powered device that looks like a Shark Gun. He collapses on the highway. Much to the 666er’s surprise the Victors pull up behind them and the Gent kills all of them, but only wounds Jones who falls to the pavement. Pistolero in a strange twist of role, shoots Jones with a small crossbow, then reloads and fires a dart into Jones’ gas tank. As the fuel surrounds Jones, who is bleeding cussing and etc, one of the Victors cuts his throat, and Pistolero tosses the classic Zippo into the pool of gas. In the next frame, Hopper gets up off the pavement, and removes his armorladen jacket – arrow still intact- and hands it to his girl who gives him a similar jacket. They depart the scene, and the three meet in the desert where the 666er’s had previously buried some sort of lockbox containing some sort of (something).… There are three keys that have 666 stamped into them. There is a short argument, and Comanche digs up the lock box and the others give him the three keys. What’s in that thing you ask? You will never know, because the shot shows only Comanche’s face from the inside as he opens the box. I think it was empty, but what do I know? The trio then fire up their motors and ride off in three different directions as the credits roll. If you are a fan of naked ladies, cool classic motorcycles, and blood and guts, this film is for you! However, if you were expecting a plot, a story line, or a coherent slide show of pleasant desert scenes you aren’t gonna be too happy. Tarantino once told Bishop “It is your destiny to write, direct, and star in a movie.” Sometimes destiny is not all it’s cracked up to be! I would reluctantly give this film 2 out of 5 stars, because there were two REAL stars exploited in this mess. It is rated R for ridiculous, and runs approximately 86 minutes. In my opinion it should be 86’ed altogether. The Phantom BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 77
Spyke & Mike
“Death is the Number One Killer in the World” He’s finally here my BTR friends, Old Man Winter in Florida! He makes you pull out your long sleeved hoodies, sweaters, and leathers just to ride a few miles. He reminds you of being back up north and gives you a reason to look forward to our better weather months ahead. I on the other hand, never liked anything on my feathers or shielding me. It brings back too many bad memories of the times Mike would take me ‘in’ to get my beak and nails trimmed. The doc would wrap a towel around me nice and tight then say, “Hold still birdie, this is only gonna hurt for a second.” I was never a great fan of the vet’s office. … Now, Mike uses a Dremel grinder gently on them and I allow it to a certain extent. Speaking of overzealous quacks, Mike’s been doing very well with his resolutions. But it has put a strain on his brain, and he’s been acting a little weird lately. He’s been walking around the Sanctuary talking to himself and occasionally writing in his diary. I’m not sure if it’s the change in his diet and eating habits, or he’s just losing it more and more every year. Ever since going past the big 50, Mike has been rambling on about aging and dying. I found a notebook the other day with 15 factors scribbled in it that he’s been pondering as he grows old in his AARP years. I just have to share them with you. 1. Being in good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. 2. Give a person a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach them to use the internet and you won’t see them for weeks, months, maybe years. 3. Men have 2 motivations: hunger and sex, and you can’t tell them apart. Ladies, if you see a gleam in a guy’s eye, make him a sandwich, unless you’re looking for the other. 4. All you health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing. 5. Humans can take a lesson from Mother Nature. She pays no attention to criticism. 6. In the 60s, people did drugs to make the world seem weird. Now the same people take Prozac to make the world feel normal. 7. It is common for people at our age to have problems with short term memory. But it’s not storing the memory that’s the problem, retrieving it is. 8. The best way to avoid the terrible curse of elderly face and neck crinkles is to have people remove their glasses when looking at you. 9. For you women who want to get rid of those dreaded crow’s-feet and facial wrinkles, just go braless. It will usually pull them right out. 10. Menopause can be traced back to the biblical days. It was Mathew 14.92: and Mary rode Joseph’s ass all the way to Egypt. 11. When driving in the over the hill years, it’s highly recommended to use valet parking. Those guys get paid to remember where your car is and you don’t have to walk as far. 12. In our golden years, the only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth and if you can get out of it. 13. Life is sexually transmitted, so enjoy it.
14. Always remember that life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers. What you do today may be a burning issue for you tomorrow. 15. Death is the number one killer in the world. So, you should always make the most of your dash. That’s the line on your tombstone between your birthday and the day you die. Mike walks into the room as I was typing this and I tell him, “Dude you should have been a writer for Hallmark. I bet they could have come out with some great cards using your whimsical insights.” He just turns, looks at me, grabs his coat and says, “I’m outta here, I’ve been working on a new project. I did this yesterday and I’m wondering if I can get the same results today. I’ve decided to stop looking on Facebook for friends. But, I’m applying the same principles out in the real world. I just walk down the street and tell all the people I run into what I’ve eaten, how I feel, what I did the night before, and what I will do tomorrow. Then I give them pictures of you, my family, me gardening, cooking, mowing, and spending time in the past. I then listen to their conversations, look at their pictures, and tell them that I love them. … And it works! I had five people following me: 2 police officers, a psychiatrist, and 2 men in white lab coats!” I roll my eyes and cackle, “Oh brother, you’re holding nothing but low cards and you’re as bright as a two-watt bulb. I’d better come along so you don’t end up in a cement room with only one phone call at your disposal.” Mike blurts out, “That’s a great idea! You can take notes for me! Everyone believes in your keyboard peckings!” He then picks me up and plops me on the backrest of the Fat Bird. With his leathers on, he gets my wings in the wind and its wheels down the road. SPYKE

Christian Motorcyclists Association During a recent visit to my favorite dealership, my attention was drawn to an intensely bright light that was coming from the parts counter. They had gotten in some new and very powerful LED lights that were simply amazing and became a must have for my bike. Unlike most folks, my interest in lights isn’t so much to see what’s ahead of me but to be seen by distracted cagers. My philosophy concerning lights is that there is no such thing as too many lights on a bike; I’d rather be seen than run over. The lights being shown replaced the headlight, the front turn signals, and the rear turn signals and brake lights. The amount of bright light coming from these replacement assemblies

was incredible, and they were easy to install in a short amount of time. Once the lights were mounted to the bike, I took a moment to check them out and to see just what they looked like on my bike. Being as the bike was parked in the garage, when I fired up the lights they lit up the whole wall in front of me. I then walked in front of the bike to look at the lights, not a good idea, the lights were blinding! I got excited because I knew that the bike was now much more noticeable, and the signals were far more conspicuous as well. I was thrilled with the results the new lights provided, and the first time I took the bike out after dark I had another thrill. Instead of having to squint to see what was ahead or to the side of my route of travel, the road simply lit up!! Even though I wasn’t concerned about my extra visibility, I was very pleased with the additional safety margin the new lights provided to keep me safe. There is another
light I depend on to keep me safe as I journey through life. In Psalm 119:105, the Bible says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Whenever I find myself in a dark place, I call on the Word of God to guide me and to keep the correct pathway lit for easier travel. I know that the road will not always be brightly lit before me, and at times I may hit the ruts and potholes along the way. When my way is illuminated with the love and the Word of God, the ride is smoother and easier to navigate. At times my vision may veer off into the dark areas, but His Word gets me back on track and helps me avoid falling into the temptations that are hidden in the dark. If your life is full of road hazards hidden from sight, call on God to show you the way. Let Him light your path; His love is a lamp that will light your way and keep you safe in the journey!
