The Goodwill Ambassador of Born To Ride
Having lost my legs at the age of 6 as a result of being run over by a train in 1966, I had no idea that riding a bicycle would be possible and grew up with the understanding that a motorcycle would be out of the question. It was not until a very good friend of mine, Bob Moran from Treasure Island, Florida, who was also a double leg amputee, showed me that it was possible. I was training for the Paralympics as a member of the U.S. Sailing Team and we were sailing out of St. Petersburg, Florida. Since Bob lived in the area, I always made it a point to visit. On one such visit, I saw that he was riding a Harley-Davidson trike and I just had to do that! After a great deal of coaxing, he finally allowed me to try. Having no experience with a clutch, he told me to “start it up.” Thankfully, I was able to stop the bike before it went out the back wall of the garage. After a few laps around his neighborhood, I was hooked. The ’04 Flair Red GL1800 Honda with the Hannigan trike kit is my second trike, and together with the first, I have logged well over a quarter million miles in just 10 years, having traveled all over the U.S. and Canada. In 2013, the team at Hannigan did an amazing job transforming my oneof-a-kind chair mount to the fender of the Hannigan kit, along with working with me to modify the braking system on the ’04 GL1800, so that I could control all three brakes from the handlebar master cylinder. Transferring my custom chair mount required a few changes to the original design, but nothing that the Hannigan team could not resolve. They paid attention to every detail to ensure a flawless build. In addition to the chair mount and changes/mods to the braking system, the only other “accessory” is a Pingel Electric Shifter that has worked

extremely well for me. It’s not every day that you see such a high level amputee riding a motorcycle. I have enjoyed many encounters with folks screaming out of their car windows at 75 mph asking if they can take my picture, at gas stops that take hours while I talk with individuals who have lots of questions or are seeking advice that might help someone they know either return to riding, or do so for the first time. Over the 10 years that I have been riding, I have become recognized on many Internet sites as “Wheels,” a road name that I am still trying to figure out how I got. Wheels has become someone who many seek out for help and direction on how and where to go for riding questions, equipment, and sometimes just to have someone to talk to share issues pertaining to dealing with a disability. I have enjoyed meeting and “putting a handshake” on thousands of fellow riders. I really enjoy having the chance to help someone who has returned from combat with a disability who wants to ride, often paying it forward like my friend Bob, who lost his legs while serving in Vietnam, by throwing them the keys and telling them to “hop on and take her for a spin.” Over the years, I have been extensively
involved in many disability programs, working with adults and children in such programs as Wounded Warrior, Eastern Paralyzed Veterans, Baltimore Wheelchair Athletic Club and many, many others. I have traveled the world representing the USA while a member of many sports teams, including basketball, snow skiing, ice (sled) hockey, sailing, and racquetball, to name a few. While each of those experiences were great, nothing can compare to the thrill I get when I jump on the trike and take off on another adventure seeking the thrills that only riding a motorcycle can give. Today you will often see me and my wife, Nancy, who now rides her own Harley-Davidson Sportster, enjoying some of the many great roads in southwest
Florida seeking out local adventures. Nancy often says “We are having the time of our life.” It’s never too far, too cold, too wet, too hot or too long to ride a Gold Wing, especially if it involves a good barbecue.

Since the first V92c rolled off the assembly line on July 4, 1998, Victory Motorcycles has been carving out an ever-expanding slice of the American motorcycle pie. From cruisers, to tourers and baggers, custom partnerships with the likes of Roland Sands and the Ness family, and now even electrics, Victory has never been afraid to break stereotypes, and move in new directions. As Mike Song, senior industrial designer has quipped, “Victory doesn’t have any long history or legacy- we are a new brand and we can go wherever we want to go.” From the Project 156 road racer developed for the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and the collaboration with Zach Ness on the Victory Combustion concept, the radical new Octane was born. Dubbed “The Modern American Muscle Bike,” the Octane is poised to take on the likes of HarleyDavidson’s new Sportster 1200 Roadster and possibly the long-running V-Rod, Triumph’s revamped Thruxton, and even sister company Indian’s innovative Scout
for the moniker, “ultimate hooligan bike.” Some claim the Octane is, in fact, merely a knock-off of the Scout, since both companies are owned by parent Polaris Industries. However the similarities both may share in chassis, powerplant, even some design cues, these are very dissimilar bikes. Cousins, not siblings. Powered by a liquid-cooled, 1179cc, 60-degree, 6-speed V-twin with dual overhead cams and 4-valve heads, the Octane makes a claimed 104 horsepower and 76 ft. pounds of torque. Company spec sheets assert the Octane blitzes a quarter mile in 12 seconds, and jumps 0-60 mph in 4 seconds. Sounds like fun to me. That V-twin mill is solid-mounted, connecting cast-aluminum front and rear frame sections, according to Victory’s papers, with twin tubular steel backbones for added rigidity. The Octane sports dual-rate suspension springs front/rear. Large, 298mm discs get bitten by a two-piston caliper up front, and a single piston behind.

RGR Motorsports, a Victory dealership in north Georgia, was willing to provide a ride for us to put through the paces, to test Victory’s claims about the Octane. My friend and fellow rider, Mike Wood, joined me for the excursion, and we rode north to meet up with Brendan Hammond, RGR’s sales chief, to check out an Octane for a morning. Upon arrival, we met with Brendan and owner/operator Tripp Melton, who suggested and offered a Victory Gunner for Mike to take as well, for comparison. We enthusiastically obliged. With full tanks of gas, and the north Georgia foothills in front of us, Mike and I took to the roads on our respective mounts. No wheelies, burn-outs, or peg dragging like some professional riders and writers have been doing with the Octane. We just rode both Victorys as normal folks would, for realworld observations. Throwing a leg over the Octane, I noted how slammed and narrow the bike sits. With just a 25.9 inch seat height, the Octane is crouched low, for sure. Being somewhat BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 15
This bike is not just, “Power with Attitude” it wants to punch you in the mouth, then hand you your teeth. vertically challenged at 5’8”, this suited me well. The claimed wet weight is 551 lbs, yet felt half that. The handlebar reach is not as bad as I feared, but in fact was quite comfy, with a moderate pull-back. The forward set pegs are slightly wide, but not awkwardly so. In all, the ergos were better than I expected for someone my size. Firing up, the exhaust note is subdued, but has a growling, deep cadence. The Octane is very well balanced, and with a claimed 32 degrees of lean angle, the pegs don’t scrape nearly as quickly as on the Gunner we had. Running up through the cogs, I found first gear to be a jack-rabbit jump off the line, and each subsequent click
up was a definite power rush, unlike any American cruiser I’ve ever straddled. Throttle response is immediate. By 5000 rpm in each gear, the Octane is screaming for you to “wring its neck” even more. If 0-60 is 4 sec, 60-??? comes almost as quick. This bike is not just “power with attitude”; it wants to punch you in the mouth then hand you your teeth. As we say here in the South, the Octane is a hoot to ride. We rode the hill country and twisties around Lake Lanier in north Georgia most of the morning, the big Gunner under Mike loping along with a deep, throaty rumble, and my Octane growling for more horseplay. Yet in times and places of slowed local

traffic, the Octane is as well-mannered and manageable as the Gunner, albeit lighter. Shifting is effortless, yet Victorytypical solid. The brakes pinch better than anticipated, when we practiced some hard stops. The 3 inches of rear travel soaked up road irregularities with ease, although after about an hour in the saddle my posterior needed a break. The seat is not made for long days and distances. Fortunately, Victory offers various seat, peg and reach setups to suit all rides and riders, even passengers. The dash info gives rpm, gear position, time, and can be scrolled through for kilometers, engine temp, etc. by a finger toggle on the left front handlebar, not to be

confused with a passing button. The analog mph circle lights up in the dark, a nice feature. I even found the mirrors to be fairly useful, only vibrating slightly above 70 mph. The Octane is unique to me. This bike is a “shot across the bow” aimed at the “hooligan bike” market, and it demands attention. And I must add, women riders should consider the Octane as well. The ergos are comfortable, the performance spoton but not overwhelming, and I know some gals with a penchant for power who would very much enjoy burning tires and scraping pegs with this beast. Mike and I swapped bikes later in the BTR 18 | BORNTORIDE.COM
morning, for comparison. After some miles on the Gunner, I could tell this was a far different ride than the Octane. Much more traditional Victory cruiser, with a solid but heavy shift, linear roll-on, and more relaxed power delivery, the Gunner is the ultimate cool. Mike favored it over the Octane, in fact. Myself, owning both a big heavy cruiser and a powerful sport bike, I found the Octane favored, with a great balance of cruiser ride with sport power and handling. An American sport-cruiser? Why can’t we have both, in one package? If that’s what you are looking for, you really need to consider the Octane. In fact, go test ride one, like we did. You’ll
spend the ride wearing a wide grin, like we did. When in north Georgia, find your way over to Cumming, and look up RGR Motorsports. The full Victory line is carried, as is KTM and soon Hyosung, plus several ATV and sideby-side brands. Ask for Tripp and Brendan. Tell them Rob with Born to Ride sent you.

Rolling Thunder - 1st Amendment Demonstration Run
Rolling Thunder is the largest 1st Amendment demonstration run in the United States, and every year during Memorial Day weekend motorcyclists roll into our Nation’s capital to emphasize the urgency of keeping POW/MIA issues current. “With the economic recovery and healthcare reform taking center stage, the POW/ MIA issue is one that nobody in our government wants to address anymore. If they keep dragging their feet, sooner or later anyone who was captured alive will have passed away. But for their families, there is never any closure. Searching for and returning remains is a valid mission but there is too much evidence that live POWs
were left behind, particularly in Southeast Asia, and we shouldn’t give up efforts to find them.” Artie Muller, Rolling Thunder national executive director and co-founder I never cease to tire in participating in this ride since I started going in 1995. If you

can imagine doing a toy run in your own city or a city as big as Atlanta. What about riding your Nations Capital, greeted by people on overpasses as you come in and people slapping your hand as you ride down Independence and Constitution Ave? Each year at the end of the ride at the Lincoln Memorial, you may see veteran RT returning performers like Nancy Sinatra & Country Singer Gordon Painter. In past years, I was able to meet Nancy Sinatra, a regular participant, Gary Sinese, Connie Stevens, Chris Noel and TV and film actor Robert Patrick, who rode his bike all the way from California. I say it every year to my friends and fellow riders, if you are a
vet, this is the “bucket list”, the one to go to. Even if you are not a vet, this is still the one to go to support and honor those who served and died for us, so that we can ride free. REFLECTIONS ON ROLLING THUNDER It started from the Pentagon, it was an awesome sight, A motorcade of cyclists, an entourage of knights. Winding through the streets, as far as you can see, Across Memorial Bridge, through Washington, DC
Up Independence Avenue, and ‘round the Capitol, By Washington’s Monument, on and on they roll. Down Constitution Avenue, past the reflecting pool. The roar of different cycles, but all playing the same tune. Past the cheering crowds, lined up along the street, With their hands outstretched, to bikers they would greet. Where do they all come from, why is it they come? From Pacific, North and South, like sounds of rolling drums. From rows of eight across, to fifteen bikes abreast, Assorted motorcycles, honoring the best. The ultimate direction, for the bikers all, All headed down the city’s streets, for the Viet Nam Wall. Feelings of emotions and feelings of much pride, Respect for those missing, and in ‘Nam that died. Despite the controversy, they were well up to the task. Those inscribed upon the wall, served when they were asked. They gave their lives for us, so that we may be free, Free to live and ride, wherever that we please. CRAVEN MOOREHEAD & THE DA
Recently, several central Florida media outlets ran a story regarding two local Fire Department Captains who also belong to, or are leaders of local Motorcycle Clubs. Before we delve into the dark minds of the regulated media’s slant on ‘Journalism’ we should explore what they do on a slow news day. Typically if there are no dramatic or tragic news events to report, they will dig dirt with the voracity of a drag-line. If you are a reader of this publication, you are in one way or the other involved with the motorcycling community and you are likewise exposed to the regulated media. At Born To Ride Multi Media, we like to report the news and events that are compelling, interesting, and informative to those who ride motorcycles or those whom are involved in the industry – or both. Even if you don’t ride a motorcycle, you have the right to know what’s really going on in regard to our lifestyle. Even though I have lived this biker lifestyle 30+ years, I do not profess to be an expert on this or any other experience, but I do have the ability to sort out the drama & BS and accurately portray it to my dedicated readers. Keep in mind that there a many professions out there that do not require you to put yourself ‘in harm’s way’ on a daily basis and I am certain that if a local handyman or cable installer were a member of a Motorcycle Club, it wouldn’t be sensational enough to do a news expose’ on them. However, our First Responders – Fire Fighters, EMT personnel and Law Enforcement put their lives on the line every day to ensure our safety. Is it anyone’s business what they do on their days off or when they are not on the clock – especially when none of these men have committed crimes, have criminal backgrounds, or bad reports from their employers? I think not. Think about it for a few minutes and answer these questions honestly: • Is this an important news story at all? • The stories say there are no fire department policies preventing gang members from becoming firefighters or firefighters from becoming gang members. Should there be? • Should anyone be concerned what these firefighters are doing on BTR 38 | BORNTORIDE.COM
their off-duty time if they haven’t been charged with a crime? • Is this activity something a fire chief should be concerned about? • Should the local government be concerned about the impact such activity has on the image of the department? • Should it be the business of the department, the news media or even the public when, or if, there are criminal charges connected to this activity? • Should a Motorcycle Club of any sort be considered a “Gang”? Keep in mind that Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, Veteran organizations and other factions (including Masonic & other popular Fraternities) often join together and “Fly Colors.” According to law enforcement, there are two distinct groups within Motorcycling Community. There is the 99 percent, who believe in following and respecting the law. Then there are the “1%ers” who proudly display a patch that signifies an anti-law abiding lifestyle. WFTS-TV’s Jarrod Holbrook states that “In recent years we’ve run a number of stories about firefighters, EMS workers and even 911 employees who’ve received disciplinary action or lost their jobs after making public statements against law enforcement.” However in this case, neither of the Fire Captains exposed have been involved in crimes, issued derogatory statements regarding Law Enforcement or had a bad employment review within their respective departments of service. Holbrook couldn’t expound on a reason or rhyme to the instant case but as an ‘Investigative reporter’ he has to dig deep to get the scoop on something we assume. In my opinion the reports are slanted against (not just club members) but the entire motorcycling community. Remember that everyone believes everything they hear on social media or the news, so this is injurious not only to clubs but to all of us as bikers. Let’s focus first on Capt. James Costa of the Hillsborough County Fire Department. Costa has served 35 years as a first responder and in his career has worked his way up to the position of captain in the department. Chief Dennis Jones of HCFD quoted that “there are no issues” regarding Costa and that there are no policies regarding employees being involved with what the ATF, FBI and other alphabet soup agencies refer to as OMG’s or Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. Chief Jones further quoted that he “did not consider it a safety or security issue.” “He’s had a clean criminal record since becoming a firefighter.” And in his 35 years with the department, Costa’s evaluations have been above average and positive, per county human resource documents. Costa was clearly exposed and targeted by the yellow journalism practiced by the local news channels, and the ramifications did come home to his employment at the very minute of his retirement. After seeing the ‘report’ on the news, Chief Jones did approach Costa regarding the story and offered him the opportunity to take ‘sick time’ away from the department in lieu of the possibility of being fired, but the Chief decided to allow Costa to take his retirement and not investigate these matters any further. As of the publication

James Costa may now enjoy his retirement and spend his time without the scrutiny of the various media outlets that simply want to sling mud and dig dirt. Costa has spent many years fighting fires, saving lives and supporting his community. He will continue to serve this community and his club into the future. In the case of Glen Buzze, the situation is exactly the same. Buzze is a Fire Captain and EMT with the Pasco County Fire department. He was also exposed in this, one of the most bizarre nonsensical media stories in Florida history. Yes, Buz is also a member of a motorcycle club and he is also a respected first responder in his county of service. PCFD Chief Scott Cassin quoted that “To the County’s knowledge, no criminal activity was discovered regarding Mr. Buzze, and therefore, the SO did not make an arrest in the case.” The news report says Buzze has no criminal record. According to Chief Cassin, during that investigation “the Fire Rescue Department did monitor Captain Buzze’s activities more closely” of course, no reason to was found to terminate Buzze’s employment, and the only ‘crime’ that was committed by Buzze, according to Chief Cassin was that he used a PCFD computer or internet connection to generate a flyer for an upcoming club activity. He received a verbal reprimand for that heinous act, and wait – REALLY? You work every day and night saving lives and property and you can’t use a company printer to print one stinkin’ page? I believe the media needs a major spanking. Buzze according to Chief
Cassin also has a stellar employment record with the PCFD. When confronted in a surprise attack by WFTS-TV Cassin quoted “There are no policies in place regarding employees of PCFD being members or ‘gangs’ or otherwise.” When asked if he would like to instate a policy regarding ‘gang’ membership in the department, Cassin quoted: “We would like a lot of policies, but we have no resources or cause to implement them at this time.” When asked about Buzze’s ‘patch’ he stated, “Well the Republican Party wears a patch and they are involved with {descriptions deleted} so. …” ATF Agent Keary Hundt (Tampa, FL) says when you’re a 1%er, “You consider yourself not subject to society’s rules and laws.” Agent Hundt investigates criminal motorcycle gangs. He says they are known for all types of crimes, “Drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, extortion, arson, bombings, you name it.” As bikers, we are probably all familiar with the various motorcycle clubs in our state and community. I can speak to all of you as a journalist, a biker and a former member of a motorcycle club. The Government’s descriptions and definitions of 1%er clubs are inaccurate, inflammatory and overly dramatic. The regulated media feeds on the exposure of these organizations as gangs or criminals. The truth is that most motorcycle clubs exist to share brotherhood, camaraderie and the simple mutual enjoyment of riding motorcycles in a group. Seeing new places, enjoying events together and keeping it real are paramount in these organizations. 1%ers are, in my opinion at the top of the class. I can speak to you from a place of knowledge and will assure all of you that it isn’t easy to become one of the members of a 1%er club. It’s simply not for everyone. For that matter, being a first responder in any capacity is not for everyone either. All of these tasks are tough, but you must have the heart, soul and drive to make it happen. I will assure in my career as a biker and club member I have never had to commit a criminal act in any capacity. This does not mean that I will not stand my ground, because I will. This life isn’t for everyone and for all of us who share it, it is a blessing. We all have to work to survive, and once again in my opinion it is a travesty when the media wants to attack bikers at their workplace and possibly destroy their reputation and life, it’s a crime. A crime not committed by bikers of any caliber. A crime committed by people in the media who are trying to make a living exposing things that should not be brought to the public’s attention. Your Comments are welcome, info@borntoride.com Until next month, Speed safely!
Congratulate him on his 35 year retirement. BTR supports our first responders. Ron Galletti

Why Motorcyclists Can’t Afford to Just Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride By Matt Danielson, The Motorcycle Law Group
Many different things draw people to motorcycling. For some, it’s the sense of freedom. For others, it’s a source of relaxation, even exhilaration. If you’re like me, it’s to some degree all of the above. That said, it’s the ride we crave regardless of what each of us gets from it. This time of year, roads are packed with motorcyclists sitting back (or forward) and just enjoying the ride. Which begs the question: can we, as avid motorcyclists, afford to do that? I have the privilege of being able to attend motorcycle rights conferences around the country. It has allowed me to take some fantastic rides in some of the prettiest parts of this nation. I remember attending one conference a few years ago put on by the Motorcycle Rider’s Foundation (MRF), in Frisco, Colorado. If you’ve been to Colorado, you know it’s some of the prettiest riding country you’ll ever encounter. Yet on a gorgeous Saturday in June, I found myself not on my bike riding the Rockies, but in a room with motorcyclists from around the country discussing issues riders face all around the United States. Some of the issues being addressed by the participants included working to: • Prevent motorcyclists from being excluded from public parking lots, roads and parking garages • Eliminate roadside checkpoints aimed only at motorcyclists
• Address the ever-growing problem of distracted driving • Prohibit the use of higher ethanol blends at the pump until the effects on motorcycle engines can be further studied • Lobby for legislation allowing motorcyclists to safely and reasonably proceed when they are stuck at a traffic light that will not recognize them • Prevent legislation which arbitrarily sets age restrictions for passengers on motorcycles • Partner with state and local governments to promote sensible motorcycle awareness campaigns These are all real issues being faced by real riders. As I took in everything being discussed, I thought to myself: what would riding be like if no one was addressing these issues on behalf of motorcyclists? The answer was chilling. It’s easy to sit back, enjoy the ride, and count on everything being all right. But can we afford to do that? If we all did, we may soon find no ride left to sit back and enjoy. So what can you do to protect yourself and the activity we all love and cherish? Take some simple steps to become involved in protecting the rights of fellow motorcyclists. I’m not suggesting everyone start riding all over the country attending seminars (though it is a great excuse to ride all over the country). Get involved locally. Start paying attention to positions your local, state and federal legislators take regarding

issues affecting motorcyclists. Share your thoughts in letters and emails. Write letters to the editor of your local paper. Go to City Council or County Board meetings. Join a motorcycle rights organization and attend their lobby day, when motorcyclists go the State Capitol to discuss important issues with elected officials. I also encourage you to join the MRF, an organization dedicated solely to protecting the rights of American motorcyclists (learn more and join at mrf. org). There are numerous ways to protect your rights as a motorcyclist. The ways are limitless, bound only by your passion and imagination. There is, however, a wrong way, and that’s to count on someone else to do it. That someone may be sitting back, enjoying the ride and counting on you. If you have any questions or comments concerning this article or any other matters concerning your rights as a motorcyclist, please feel free to contact me at 1-800-3218968 or matt@motorcyclelawgroup.com. It all started when a group of friends were wrenching on their own Harleys in a tiny backyard shop with a dirt floor that jokingly became known as Dirt Floor Cycles. As time went on, friends and locals began bringing their bikes for repairs, and as their knowledge and love for working on Harleys grew so did their customer base. It became obvious there was a need for real down to earth people in the motorcycle industry down South, so David and Buck decided it was time to share their expertise. A new much larger shop was built and outfitted with all the tools and equipment required for today’s needs. David opened the doors of Dirt Floor Cycles, LLC to the public in August of 2015. It wasn’t long before DFC was set up with several parts distributors and business began to pick up. Meanwhile Buck, a retired combat vet, relocated to Daytona, FL to attend Wyotech’s Harley-Davidson Technical program, where he graduated top of his class in December of 2015 and returned to Dirt Floor Cycles as the lead technician. Today the shop is much larger and the floors are concrete, but the spirit and dedication that turned a joke among friends into a reality is still at the heart of Dirt Floor Cycles. 912-839-2541 • 1940 Harville Road, Statesboro, GA 30548 www.dirtfloorcycles.com

Dirt Floor Cycles lost a true friend and member of the crew in February of 2015. Marcus Hodges, David’s nephew was taken too early by a car accident. Afterwards the shop acquired his 95 Sporty from the family and ideas to honor him through the bike started flowing. Choppers, bobbers, they’ve been done. David had a dream one night about

an off road trike, and thought it to be the perfect tribute (Marcus was really big into four-wheelers, three-wheelers, and dirt bikes). They started figuring on how to make it work after several discussions about if it was the right thing to do. A custom swing arm was built to accommodate the live axle, converted to chain drive, custom seat mount, rear
fender, and tail lights. Off road tires were a must for the look they were going for, as well as making the v-twin hook up in dirt. It all came together in 13 days start to finish, and turned out to be an awesome performance machine. They are very proud of this special project and are sure Marcus is smiling down as it’s being twisted to the lock.

Christian Motorcyclists Association There is nothing as important when going for a ride as to prepare for the time in the wind. Perhaps you check the gas tank and oil, or you check the pressure in the tires and shocks. I always like looking at the garage walls and seeing the reflection that the lights on my bike make, assuring that they are there to make motorists aware of my presence. One of my favorite toys on the bike is the air horn. Like louder pipes, an air horn can get a cager’s attention and help prevent a dangerous situation. If it is a cold day, you no doubt grab a warm jacket and maybe some gloves, trying to keep yourself comfortable during the ride. In the summer you can only take so many clothes off, but you can carry bottles of water with you, to keep hydrated along the way. Don’t forget the sunscreen, you don’t want to get a sunburn while having a good time when up on two. Make sure to check the weather radar, and redirect your route if necessary to avoid a wet ride. There are two other things you can do to make your ride, and your life, far safer and more enjoyable. When Jesus was facing BTR 56 | BORNTORIDE.COM
capture by the Roman soldiers, He told His disciples, in Mt. 26:41, to “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.” He wanted their support as he was facing some incredible torture in the hours to come. In life, and on a ride, it is so important to keep watch of all that is going on around you. In traffic, keeping a close watch on the vehicles around you can literally save your life. You can make a mental note of any erratic driving, or riding, which is going on close enough to cause you a problem. At a party, keeping your eyes open can help keep you from accidently falling into making a bad choice, especially since so many big problems started out as a little problem. In life, taking a little extra effort to watch what is happening nearby can help you make better and safer decisions, and avoid the temptations that were mentioned in Jesus’ words. Even better than watching your surroundings is the second command, to pray. Over and over again we see throughout the Bible that before Jesus did anything, He took time to pray. He had an incredible connection with God, and wants for you to have that same relationship. Prayer is a first priority in hearing what God wants for your life, and in helping you accomplish what God has for you to do. That’s also why Jesus took the time to train the disciples how to pray. There is one prayer that will make an eternal difference in your life, asking Jesus to be your Savior. When you ask Him to forgive your sins, He does, once and forever! He’s waiting, are you ready?
