ALL-NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON MILWAUKEE-EIGHT ENGINE POWERS REIMAGINED TOURING MOTORCYCLE EXPERIENCE MILWAUKEE (August 23, 2016) – The all-new Harley-Davidson® Milwaukee-Eight™ engine, ninth in the lineage of the company’s iconic Big Twin engines, delivers more power and an improved motorcycling experience for riders and passengers while retaining the iconic look, sound and feel of its predecessors. An all-new design, the Milwaukee-Eight engine offers quicker throttle response, more passing power, purer sound, a smoother ride and more of the feeling riders want from a Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle engine. New Milwaukee-Eight engines will power every 2017 Harley-Davidson Touring and Trike motorcycle model. Milwaukee-Eight engines will be offered in two displacements and three variations: Milwaukee-Eight 107 (107 CID, 1750cc) featuring precision oil-cooled cylinder heads for the Street Glide®/Street Glide® Special, Road Glide®/Road Glide Special®, Electra Glide® Ultra Classic®, Road King® and Freewheeler® models. Twin-Cooled™ Milwaukee-Eight 107 (107 CID, 1750cc) featuring liquid-cooled cylinder heads for the Ultra Limited/Ultra Limited Low, Road Glide® Ultra and Tri Glide® Ultra models. Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 114 (114 CID,1870cc) featuring liquid-cooled cylinder heads for the CVO™ Limited and CVO™ Street Glide® models. More Power Each Milwaukee-Eight engine produces 10 percent more torque than the engine it replaces in Touring models. In addition to increased displacement, the Milwaukee-Eight engine features a higher compression ratio and four-valve cylinder heads with 50 percent more intake and exhaust flow capacity. The valve train requires no adjustment as the design of the rocker arms enables valve lash to be set at the factory for life. Dual spark plugs for each cylinder contribute to more- efficient combustion. A single chain-driven camshaft is lighter, mechanically less complex and creates less friction and noise. Quicker Acceleration The Milwaukee-Eight engine weighs the same as the engines it replaces, so all of its extra power contributes directly to improved acceleration performance. • The Milwaukee-Eight 107 accelerates 11 percent quicker 0-60 mph, equal to a two to three bike length improvement, and 11 percent quicker from 60-80 mph in top gear, equal to a one to two bike length improvement, compared to the Twin Cam High Output 103. • The Milwaukee-Eight 114 accelerates 8 percent quicker 0-60 and BTR 4 | BORNTORIDE.COM

12 percent quicker 60-80 than the Twin Cam 110™. Heat Management The Milwaukee-Eight engine offers improved rider and passenger thermal comfort due to reduced heat absorption, increased heat rejection and a redesigned exhaust system. Each Milwaukee-Eight engine features a precision cooling strategy based on the specific demands of the motorcycle model, using a targeted flow of either oil or liquid coolant around the hottest areas of the cylinder heads. A new knock sensor for each cylinder enables more-precise timing control. The rear exhaust pipe is re-positioned and the exhaust catalyst is relocated to move heat away from the passenger. Idle speed is lowered from 1,000 rpm to 850 rpm. Improved Fit A new, slimmer primary drive cover and the lowprofile shape of the air cleaner cover provide improved rider legroom around the engine and an easier reach to the ground for many riders. All Milwaukee-Eight powered models are fitted with an Assist and Slip Clutch with improved hydraulic actuation that reduces clutch lever effort by 7 percent. Reduced Vibration The rubber-mounted Milwaukee-Eight engine features a single internal counter balancer that cancels 75 percent of primary vibration at idle for a more-refined feel and more-comfortable experience for rider and passengers while retaining the classic character of Harley® V-Twin engines. Richer Exhaust Note Lighter valves, a single camshaft, optimized cover designs and improved driveline components eliminate mechanical powertrain noise. The engine intake and air cleaner are designed to reduce intake sound while ensuring maximum air flow. As a result, the new Milwaukee-Eight engine is mechanically quieter, enabling a richer exhaust tone, and meets all global noise and emissions standards while allowing the unmistakable rumble of its exhaust note to resonate. Improved Charging The Milwaukee-Eight engine charging system delivers 50 percent more output to the battery at idle to better support the power demands of Touring riders, including accessory lighting, performance audio, and heated gear and other accessories. New Engine Styling The Milwaukee-Eight engine features sleek, modern styling that respects the heritage of previous Harley-Davidson Big Twin engines. To experience the transformation of the 2017 Harley-Davidson® Touring models for yourself, visit your local Harley-Davidson dealer to schedule a test ride.

RIDING POSTURE

Maintaining good posture in the saddle is an important component of good riding. Not only will paying attention to your posture help you stay comfortable over long distances, it will also enhance your control of the motorcycle by helping your body stay relaxed. Sit on the motorcycle in an upright position with your back straight, your head up, and your eyes focused on the roadway ahead. Ride with your knees and elbows turned inward. They should be comfortably bent (not locked) so you can quickly move or respond to changes in riding conditions.

Keep both feet on the footrests at all times so you can quickly position them to operate the rear brake pedal or shift lever. Grip both handgrips firmly with your wrists turned downward and knuckles pointed up. Make a conscious effort to keep your body limber and relaxed. Tensed muscles will cause you to fatigue quickly, and will lessen your ability to respond promptly to any obstacles that might appear in your path. A relaxed rider is a ready rider. The better your skills are, the more relaxed you’ll be. A wrist-down position on the throttle hand is

recommended. It will help avoid overrevving the engine and will make it easier to reach for the front brake lever when it comes time to slow down. In a standard turn, lean with the motorcycle for smoothness and stability. In a slow, tight turn, such as turning around in a parking lot, it helps to counterweight by leaning in the opposite direction of the motorcycle and direction of the turn. Put pressure on the outside footrest. For more information go to www.msf-usa.org

3-Part Miniseries on Discovery Channel

A Harley-Davidson is more than a motorcycle. It is a symbol of Americana, built from the ground up by founders Walter and Arthur Davidson and their friend Bill Harley. But the road to success was not exactly smooth - it was filled with innumerable obstacles, ruthless competitors and extraordinary risks. Together these three young men, the sons of blue-collar immigrants, gave everything they had to ensure the survival of the company they founded. But just how far would they go to reach the ultimate American dream? Based on a true story, Harley and the Davidsons charts the birth of this iconic bike during a time of great social and technological

change beginning at the turn of the 20th century. Walter, Arthur and Bill risked their entire fortune and livelihood to launch the budding enterprise. Each of these men faced very different challenges, but it was the motorcycle that united their dreams and ambitions. Walter, Arthur, and Bill cemented Harley-Davidson’s reputation as a builder of bikes that go anywhere, can ride hard and ignore all the rules. It’s a legacy that has endured over 100 years - and at the heart of the brand and its loyal riders. Here is the link where fans can watch online: www.discoverygo.com/harley-and-the-davidsons

Most people think a group is all about “fitting in” but we’re the ones who always “fitted out”. Being able to meet passionate women motorcyclists is always a blessing. My role with the Born To Ride magazine allows me these precious moments to savor, learn, and share other people’s journeys with our valued dedicated readers! The Iron Lilies is an all-women’s riding group that you will be hearing and seeing more of in the months to come!

I was very happy and excited to talk with Leticia Cline, one of the founding members of the Iron Lilies. Her zest runs deep for motorcycling. She is blessed with a beautiful outlook on life, love, and the knowledge of motorcycles. Sit back, relax, and take in the conversation Leticia and I had about the amazing Iron Lilies! Susan: Who gave you the motorcycling bug? Leticia: I’ve been riding since I was four years old when my dad put me on a Honda 50. I took to it quickly and even raced motocross. In addition, over the years, that evolved into some modeling jobs with motorcycles magazines and companies. I was a sports commentator for motocross for a long time. I’m also a journalist. I write for websites, magazines, and blogs. My husband and I own a co-op motorcycle garage in Orlando called Standard

Motorcycle Company. We are a big motor family. I don’t even own a car; I ride my bike! Susan: You eat, breathe, and sleep, everything when it comes to your businesses! Leticia: (laughing) Definitely! It’s an amazing thing that we took a hobby and made a living out of it. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do. Susan: Where does the Iron Lilies come in to your busy life? Leticia: I moved back to Orlando in August. There was a group of women in Orlando who I would always run into. They all ride Harley Sportsters and that’s the bike I ride. We started talking and hanging out with one another. We really enjoyed riding together all the time – like four days a week! It’s amazing. We started thinking of a name for

our group. We wanted to give justice and homage to women who rode motorcycles back in the early 1920s: Lillian Farrow, Lillian LaFrance, and Lillian Hauerwas. Here are little snippets of these trailblazing women taken from the Iron Lilies website: Lillian Farrow owned the most prominent Harley Dealership in the country in the first half of the 1900s. She was also the only woman motorcycle dealer in the world. Being a single mother of 3, she managed to keep the business alive during WWII by selling used motorcycles and parts since all new bikes were produced solely for the military and it’s because of that effort that her shop A.D. Farrow Co. is America’s oldest continuously operated Harley-Davidson dealership celebrating 104 years. Lillian LaFrance became a wall of death rider in 1924 after attending a carnival and BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 19

seeing only men do it. She was billed as “The Girl Who Flirts With Death.” She used skull and crossbones as her logo and was the first person to ride a wall in a scaled down midget racing car. Lillian Hauerwas logged over 65,000 miles on her Harley by 1921. She was quoted in Motorcycle Illustrated on September 16th, 1915 saying, “Can a girl ride a motorcycle and still retain every characteristic that is expected of our best young womanhood? I certainly believe so, and my observations cover several years. ... As far as the girl rider is concerned, motorcycling is just what she makes it – and it’s so easy to make it simply a pleasant, refreshing and economical pastime that I constantly wonder why more girls do not avail themselves of it.” Leticia: At one point, we were talking with some people and they asked us if our name was used in reference to guys who ride over 1,000 miles and call themselves “Iron Butt Riders.” We thought about that and laughed, liked the concept, and said, ‘When we host an event and someone rides their bike over 1,000 miles, they will receive the Iron Lillie

Award!’ Susan: The Iron Lilies is an actual business, correct? Leticia: Yes. We are an LLC (limited liability corporation) and are in the process of obtaining our 501c3 non-profit organization status. We are also in the process of trademarking our name. We all have different roles. We hold a meeting every week. From the finances to marketing, to inventory and upcoming events, we have to meet weekly to go over our various business components. We are hired to attend events. Meaning, we come in and promote the event. For example, we were hired to ride to the Laconia Bike Week event. We rode from Florida to New Hampshire. Once we got there, we set up and led various rides; sometimes two rides a day. We really do a lot! Susan: What is your focus with the 501c3 non-profit you are creating? Leticia: We have established a great relationship with Orlando Harley and East Orlando Harley in setting up fundraisers and giveaways around the area. We give out

small monthly donations to people that need it, and one large donation or sponsorship every year for a woman that may want to attend, for example, MMI (Motorcycle and Marine Institute). We want to empower women in any male-dominated industry. In addition, if someone wants to take the MSF course, we can provide scholarships for that. I hate seeing someone buying a motorcycle and not having the money to invest in proper education or gear. Susan: How do you get information on folks that need the help? Leticia: We have a lawyer and accountant on board that look at all the proposals. Each one is researched for authenticity and need. We don’t hand over cash; we will take a bill and pay that once the research has been completed and approved by our lawyer and our board. We are looking for that story; of a woman wanting to better herself. Susan: You talk about getting hired leading rides and hosting events. Tell me how everyone finds out where you are and what you’re up to. Leticia: We have a very large following of

people from social media. When we let folks know we’re going to be at an event, lots of people show up. We do the guided rides, or sometimes, we have fun at an event and do some technical riding skill sets like figure eights and tight circles. We’ve even entered ourselves in some biker rodeo games. We go head to head with some of the best male riders out there. They are very competitive! I mean ‘really’ competitive! Some of us walk away with the winning trophies. We also do lady-only events at the Harley BTR 22 | BORNTORIDE.COM

dealerships. We can teach a tiny woman to pick up an Ultra Glide touring rig all by herself. Once someone sees a 115 pound, 5’ tall woman pick up a bike, it puts a new perspective on what a woman can really do when she has proper training. We inspire people to know that they can ride a bike. We show women how to change their oil, complete a pre-ride check list, and other important items. The one thing we DON’T do is bikini bike washes! We’ve been asked to do them and we always say “no, but we

will show everyone how to change the oil in their bikes.” We always said from the beginning, that if we ever did anything like a bikini bike wash, it would discredit us from being serious motorcycle riders. We work really hard to prove that we ride motorcycles. What saddens me is seeing women, setting those of us who are serious about riding motorcycles, back 20 years by participating in events like that. Susan: I praise and commend you and the

other Iron Lilies for having and keeping your high standards! Leticia: Thank you! Susan: There are other women that are a part of the Iron Lilies. Leticia: I love the diversity of our group! Here are some mini bios of the Core Group of the Iron Lilies! Leticia Cline: I grew up with my dad building bikes in the living room of our house. My baby photos are of me sitting on rat bikes and choppers and after a while it just

became instinctual. I favored the smell of grease over flowers. My dad put me on a Honda 50 when I was 4 and I never looked back. We would spend summers in his garage taking apart bikes, polishing all the pieces and putting them back together, he would handle each piece as if it were a rare and ancient artifact all while telling me what it’s function was and how it related to life. He was quite the philosopher and at the time, to a pre-teen little girl it was annoying. Once I got older I started to appreciate his

life lessons more and we would ride to biker events together. When I started announcing for Supercross and Motocross races I would bring my dad with me and then when I had my son I bought him a Honda 50 for his 4th Birthday to continue the tradition. My father passed away the summer of 2008 and it devastated me. I rode his Softtail to the funeral and then I never got on a bike again until spring of 2014. Before then my life was consumed with a motorcycle race every weekend, dealer’s

coach, Harley Fit Specialists, a scientist, a psychologist and women from many different walks of life.

conventions, motorcycle events and just riding but I suddenly found myself unable to go to any of those things. I changed my life completely, moved to NYC and became the director of Marketing and PR at a fortune 500 company. The stage was set for me to be the next powerful lady in business but it just wasn’t me. After 5 years of being on autopilot I woke up and moved to back Florida to find myself again. In March 2014 I took my son to Daytona Supercross. The smell of the exhaust and dirt, the excitement on my little boys face as he watched the race only assured me of where I belong. The ride home was emotional but I knew what I had to do. The next day I rented a Thruxton, rode 300 miles to a motorcycle event and bought my dad a patch to place on his grave. The following week I purchased my Iron 883 and now I ride all over the country. I was afraid that riding would be to unbearably sad to not share it with my father but strangely I feel closer now to him than I ever did before. And that’s one of the great things about motorcycles: they’re more than a form of transportation ... they’re a form of transformation. Currently I’m a journalist for some of the top motorcycle magazines and blogs. Every day, I get to test parts, gear, and motorcycles and write about it. I am also in the process of getting my MSF Rider Coach Certification and have an all-women’s traveling class

planned for 2016 along with a 10,000 mile trip across America with Kristen Lassen called, The Lost Latitudes. Kissa Von Adams, KVA is a Florida native, born and bred in Seminole County. She is a performance artist by trade and is a founding member of one of the first & longest running burlesque shows in Florida. She is currently rebuilding her ‘96 rigid Evo Sportster with the help of Jared Agin. Tracy Herendon: Born and raised in south Florida, I’ve always had a passion for being outdoors. Exploring beaches, swamps, everglades and living in a bikini was just the way I lived my life. I translated that love into my current career as a merchandise analyst at an international swimwear corporation. Dana Cooley: I always had a passion and desire to ride. So I went and got my first brand new Kawasaki 250 right off the showroom floor. I rode it for the first three months and realize this is just a soupedup lawn mower. So I turned around and I purchased a Kawasaki 600. I loved that bike, and had a lot of memories with it. When I started working for Harley, I fell in love with their bikes. And after 4 years with the Kawasaki, I purchased my first Harley. Owning a Harley has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It leads me to meet some amazing people. I love the direction my life has gone, and having these girls by my side through my journey. I couldn’t ask

for a better group of friends! Kasey Carrere: “Presently, I work for a biological consulting firm full-time as a Project Manager, conducting data analysis on water treatment, plant growth and threatened endangered species, and negotiate credit sales with local, state and federal agencies for large restoration and enhancement projects. I am also a business student at Valencia Community College and I’m in the application process to get my Masters in Business Administration. On the side, I help with the promotion and organization for the Iron Lilies, I am an organizer for The Hive, a chapter of an environmental awareness non-profit organization called Ideas For Us, and work in the garage on my Evo chopper.” Dee Basualdo: “My real name is Deneille but I go by Dee. I was born in Queens, NY but raised in Miami, FL. My nationality is Argentinan / Italian/ Spaniard. Growing up I always had a passion for sports, especially soccer. I grew up playing travel soccer until I was 18. Till this day I participate in a coed soccer and flag football for a local league. I was raised by my mother and step father, where his passion is cars and motorcycles. He introduced me to my first dirt bike when I was 12. The moment I jumped on to my very own Yamaha 50cc I knew I was born to ride. I rode that dirt bike nearly every day, falling left and right, popping the clutch,

and eating dirt, but never gave up. The more I rode the more I fell in love with it. When I turned 15 my stepfather gave me my first motorcycle which is a 1985 Honda rebel 250. I love that bike so much that I still have it and will never let it go. In 2015, I joined the Orlando Harley-Davidson team as a stock manager, and bought my very first Harley. I must say ever since I made that purchase, my life has been falling into place.” Sara Fury: Sara moved to Florida from Hawaii after living with her dad who was in the military. “I’ve always loved motorcycles and all that comes with them. The first time I rode, I knew it was where I wanted to be. My first bike was a 1975 Honda CB200. The first replacement I did was change out one of the floats in the carb, and accomplishing that tiny procedure made me feel so proud of myself! I wanted to do more, learn more, fix more. I’m definitely the type that I can’t sit and watch. I wanted to be the one getting my hands dirty, and that’s exactly what I did. After moving to Orlando, I made it a mission to find anyone and everyone who rode bikes in town. I met Leticia and lots of awesome people who shared the same love for motorcycles as I do. Being part of the Iron Lilies and having that sense of community

is fuel for the soul. I’m so grateful for this group of girls and everything they bring to the table.” Samantha Campana: She graduated with a BA in Psychology, and by day is a Clinical Psychiatric Technician for a mental health recovery center. She started riding over a year ago but not without hardships. In 2012, she had a close friend pass away in a motorcycle accident, and it made her rethink her decision for a couple years, yet the urge never went away. When she made the move to Florida, she noticed many more people riding bikes all year around and suddenly the feeling of freedom and two wheels started creeping back into her mind. She went by herself to Daytona Biketoberfest and then her mind was set. She started looking for a motorcycle, and landed on her Voodoo Purple Iron 883. Once she’s sat on it and turned the throttle, it all felt right. The joy overpowered the fear of riding. Now she is looking forward to doing more work on her own bike and continuing to meet more like minded people. Susan: Did you all come together as friends or did an event bring you together? Leticia: A couple of us knew each other just by seeing one other around town. Social

media is where it really happened. We put together a night where we all met. We all clicked and it works. The core group is eight of us. A lot of people want to join. But we have to keep the core group together because that’s our business. We allow others to ride with us, but it will always be the core eight because of the business aspect. In addition, the core group ride Harleys AND must ride at least 10,000 miles a year. We do love riding with other motorcyclists! Susan: Image is very important to the Iron Lilies. That’s impressive. Tell me, in your own words, why? Leticia: Yes! We strive to be the best when it comes to our business and when we’re out in public. We can’t, nor will we ever, water that down. We have to make sure that being a member, we have to be accountable, represent the companies that hire us, represent our name, our reputations, profession, etc. If something goes wrong, it makes us all look bad. We’ve worked too hard to let the slightest error or missteps occur. Susan: Thank you, Leticia, for spending time with me talking about the Iron Lilies. After the Fall

There is a common saying among motorcycle riders – “It’s not a question of if, but when, you’ll have a crash.” About 16 years ago, I experienced two firsts in my life, at the same time. I was involved in my first street motorcycle accident, and broke my first major bones as well. I checked both boxes at the same time, thereby joining the ranks of the “when” crowd. I was riding my ’93 Suzuki VS800 Intruder home from a new job, trying an alternative route to the house. Ahead of me, on a side street to my right, a sedan came to a stop at the sign. Motoring along just under the speed limit, I turned my attention further down the road, checking him off my mental list. Suddenly, the driver pulled out, right into my path as I approached his street. I clamped down hard on the front and rear binders, scrubbing off as much speed as possible in the short time and space I had, and still hit his left front quarter panel, right at his tire. The impact sent me over my handlebars, shearing off both my mirrors somehow, over his hood, and nearly 15 feet into the street beyond his car. I remember landing head-first, thinking, “Thank God for Georgia helmet laws,” as I tumbled down the road. I still have that helmet, on the wall in my “man cave.” I got busted up a bit, but not as seriously injured as I could have been since I was fully armored in proper gear. I did a short hospital stint, fixing me back up. I then took to convalescing at home, as the body mended and strength returned. “Better, faster, stronger.” (Remember those words?) What else returned was a hunger to ride again. Among the many friends and family that visited me during those hospital days and back home recovering, several riding buddies offered the advice, “You gotta climb back BTR 30 | BORNTORIDE.COM

on the horse, after you’ve been bucked off.” If each could have seen the look my wife gave them, that “I’m gonna rip your head off and spit down your neck” look, they might have beat a hasty retreat. Yet, on the one-year anniversary of my crash, with one more surgery still pending, I snuck out with a friend, borrowed another friend’s bike, and spent the day riding through the country. To be honest, I was excited, but a bit terrified as well. The memory of the accident was still very vivid, and I was still living the

recovery. I had felt great loss across the year since the event, deeply missing riding and the feeling of the open road. Yet throwing a leg over once again, 12 months to the day later, gave me a moment of pause. Early on, Lisa had declared, “Over my dead body, will you ride again,” but had since softened some, now saying, “I’ve got a fat insurance policy on you now. If you get yourself killed, I’ll grieve, but I’m moving to Tahiti.” So here I was, secretly hopping on a bike again, scratching the old itch. I questioned myself. Would the skills come back to me? Would I remember how to shift, to brake, to ride? Was I ready for this? I swallowed hard, pulled in the clutch, turned the key, and started up. We took it slow for several miles, as I “got my sea legs back” so to speak. But soon I settled down, everything

came back to me, and I was comfortable. The day was perfect- weather, the roads, my friend, the seat time. I didn’t tell Lisa for another six months what I had done, but when I did, she simply replied, “I knew you would, and I’m glad you did.” She approved, or at least, acquiesced. I finally bought another bike, a Yamaha Royal Star, about two years after the accident. And I’ve been riding ever since. In fact, I’ve ridden more since the accident than all the years prior of my life. I have traversed America on that big Yamaha, accruing many miles, memories, and friends. I’ve also jumped into the sport bike end of the pool, and taken up track days as a pastime when I have the available cash. I even buy and sell bikes some, finding, fixing, and “flipping” a few each year. I’ve been writing about motorcycling for a few years now, both here and freelance, with some limited success as well. So I guess I’m fully planted back on that horse. I took a fall, and may take another someday, although I hope not. The key is getting back up, in any area and episode of life. Swallow hard, take a deep breath, and climb back on. Leave no regrets. Rob Brooks asserts “motorcycles are in my blood, in my DNA.” He even claims to have seen them under a microscope. This has not been independently verified. What is verified is Rob’s love of motorcycles, whether riding, writing, or wrenching on them. Rob has traversed America on two wheels, but calls north Georgia home, along with his wife, two daughters, and menagerie of pets. He has published a book, entitled “Road Dirt: The Musings & Ramblings of a Biker Preacher,” available on Amazon Books and Amazon Kindle. Find him at www.rtbrooks. wordpress.com

There are a million how to books out on living the life you want. And, it’s safe to say that if you’re reading Born To Ride you own a bike and are living most of that dream already. But where owning a motorcycle puts us in the top 10% of those who know how to live life, there’s always something more we want – another goal to achieve. The question is how to get there? For me it started 12 years ago when I became one of the lucky ones and beat cancer to the punch. That’s when I realized the credits on this movie called my life hadn’t run yet, but they could at any time so I needed to start making stuff count. I thought about all the things I wanted to do, what really makes me happy and to no surprise biking took center stage – deciding then and there to combine my two

greatest passions, business and biking which became today’s CEO Ride. The year was 2005 and today it’s the only conference for entrepreneurs that combines business with biking. Great idea but a ton of work to get it from idea stage to reality, which is the topic of this article. What are the keys to turning your dreams into reality? Here’s what it takes: 1. Passion – The obstacles to living your dream come seemingly out of nowhere to derail you. Your family and friends will doubt you, plans fall through and the unexpected always happens so if you’re not truly passionate any of the above will kill it. 2. Network – At the very least your current network must expand to include people who can help you push your dream forward but in some cases you’ll need an entirely new one. Meaning, part of your old network may be left behind for good or just a while because of this new direction. 3. Planning – Creating a plan is nothing more than stopping to think about all of the things you know you need to do and writing them down so nothing falls through the cracks. Once documented, bounce it off of your new network for confirmation and feedback. It doesn’t have to be perfect but it HAS to be written somewhere. 4. Focus – We all have time to do the things we want to do, even if we’re still working full time at something else. Here too and much like your network, part of what you’re currently doing needs to go bye-bye to make room for the new thing. Spend time focusing on the new instead of that beer after work. 5. Balls – It takes guts to go against the opinions of others in your world. Just remember that your family and friends don’t see the same thing as you so only listen to that person you see in the mirror every day and those who can help you get there. 6. Determination – This isn’t a race so find your pace and stick with it. It always starts out slower than we like but don’t worry, if you do something toward your goal every day the momentum will build. Achieving your dreams may not be easy, but it’s one hell of a ride! The Isle of Man TT is completed for 2016 and what a great two weeks it was! Michael Dunlop shattered his own outright lap record in Friday’s Pokerstars Senior TT, the final race of the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races fueled by Monster Energy, as the Hawk Racing BMW rider lapped at 133.962mph on his way to his 13th TT victory. In a repeat of Saturday’s RST Superbike race, Dunlop got the better of Ian Hutchinson and John McGuinness with his eventual winning margin a commanding 31.4s. With morning delays, the race finally got underway at 3.45pm and at Glen Helen on the first lap, Dunlop had already established

a healthy 1.8s lead over Hutchinson with Harrison a further 1.6s behind in third as Lee Johnston, Gary Johnson and Peter Hickman rounded out the top six, just six seconds covering the top ten. Dunlop was really pressing on but having doubled his lead by the time they jumped Ballaugh Bridge, Hutchinson had reduced it again at Ramsey to 2.9s while Johnson moved up to third ahead of Hickman, Bruce Anstey and Dean Harrison. With an opening lap speed of 133.256mph, Dunlop led Hutchinson by 2.8s with the leaderboard places behind the leading pair constantly changing. Hickman had moved

into third, eight seconds down on Hutchinson, with fourth to sixth now seeing Anstey, Johnson and Harrison occupying the places. Hutchinson grabbed the lead on the road on the second lap but he was unable to make any inroads into Dunlop’s time and all the way round the lap, the Ulsterman’s advantage grew. Indeed, with yet another new outright lap record of 133.962mph, Dunlop led his BMW rival by a commanding 9.2s as they made their first pit stop at the end of the lap. There was change further behind though as Anstey moved up to third, albeit almost 26 seconds behind Hutchinson, after Hickman retired at Brandywell. John McGuinness,

down in ninth at the end of the first lap, had jumped up the order to fourth with Harrison in fifth and Johnson now in sixth. The pit stops saw Dunlop and Hutchinson maintain their first and second place positions but McGuinness’ crew again worked wonders and that helped him take over third by the time he reached Glen Helen on lap three, with the Morecambe man now some 6.7s clear of Anstey. Johnson’s good run ended though with a retirement at Appledene while David Johnson slid off the Norton at Sulby Bridge after posting a 130mph lap on his opening lap. At half race distance, Dunlop had stretched out his lead slightly to 11.2s and now almost

had Hutchinson in his sights on the road. McGuinness had also pulled away from Anstey with the difference between the two Honda riders having gone out to 11.8s. Harrison was holding station in fifth with Conor Cummins moving up to sixth. Coming into the second pit stop and twothirds race distance at the end of lap four, Dunlop still didn’t have full control of the race as the gap was still only 10.6s. Hutchinson and McGuinness were circulating on the road together and looked secure in second and third with the lower leaderboard places also becoming more settled, Anstey, Harrison and Cummins still occupying fourth to sixth.

Charlie Collier was the winner of the single-cylinder class and overall winner in 1907.

Dunlop’s team got him in and out quicker than Hutchinson and his lead grew by an additional five seconds. Indeed, he now had him firmly in his sights on the roads and was able to ride accordingly for the final lap and a half, eventually overhauling both Hutchinson and McGuinness on the road too. He eventually took the checkered flag from Hutchinson by over twenty seconds with McGuinness taking his 46th TT podium in third. Harrison grabbed hold of fourth on the penultimate lap from Anstey as Cummins, Rutter, Johnston, James Hillier and Ivan Lintin rounded out the top ten. The results saw Hutchinson end with

115 points to be a comfortable winner of the Joey Dunlop TT Championship with Harrison second on 80 and Dunlop third with 70. Meanwhile, Dan Hegarty was the first privateer to finish in an excellent 11th and that saw him clinch the TT Privateer’s Championship with 91 points to Jamie Coward’s 72. Ben and Tom Birchall took their fourth career TT win on Friday with victory in the second Sure Sidecar race at the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races, fueled by Monster Energy. The IEG Racing duo were locked in battle with Dave Molyneux/Daniel Sayle for the first lap but when they retired, they had a comfortable lead and eventually took the win

by 38.7s from John Holden/Andy Winkle with Tim Reeves/Patrick Farrance taking the final podium spot. Delayed by over three hours due to sea mist, the race finally got underway at 1.30pm and it was Molyneux/Sayle who led at Glen Helen on the first lap but only by a tenth of a second from Holden/Winkle with the Birchalls only a further second back. By Ramsey, the gap was half a second but it was now Holden who was leading with Birchall still only a second further adrift in third. However, it was all change again at the Grandstand as Molyneux retook the lead, his advantage over the Birchalls 0.9s as Holden

slipped back to third, now almost four seconds back in third. Reeves/Farrance slotted into fourth. Second time around at Glen Helen and there was another change at the top of the leaderboard as the Birchalls grabbed the lead for the first time. They were now half a second ahead of Molyneux/Sayle with Holden/Winkle still well in contention in third, just two seconds behind. However, as the lap unfolded, the Birchalls began to put the hammer down and by Ramsey Hairpin, they’d stretched the gap to 4.5s. And with a second lap speed of 116.615mph, their lead had grown further still, now standing at

6.2s as they started their third and final lap. Holden/Winkle were still in third but now 11.7s behind Molyneux and seemingly out of touch whilst Reeves/Farrance remained comfortable in fourth. Founds/Walmsley who were running in sixth place pulled in to retire just after passing the start and finish. There was more drama though at the head of the field as Molyneux/Sayle failed to make it Glen Helen on the final lap, retiring at Ballig Bridge. That made it a lot more comfortable for the Birchalls at the front and their advantage over Holden/Winkle now soared to 21.7s with Reeves/Farrance promoted up the order to

third. The Birchalls now had full control of the race with a 28s lead at Ramsey Hairpin and they were able to successfully bring the outfit up and down the Mountain to clinch their fourth win. Holden/Winkle were secure in second and with the runners-up spot, they took the overall Sidecar Championship with Reeves/Farrance salvaging their TT race week with another podium. Karl Bennett/Lee Cain were another crew to make amends for a first race retirement with the local crew taking fourth with Matt Dix/ Shaun Parker also having a career best finish in fifth. Steve and Matty Ramsden ended their successful fortnight with sixth as Alan Founds/

Aki Aalto, Gary Bryan/Jamie Winn, Tony Baker and Fiona Baker-Milligan and Gordon Shand/ Phil Hyde completed the top ten, BakerMilligan consolidating her tag as the fastestever female passenger with more 110mph+

Biker Movie Review

The iconic 1966 film featuring Peter Fonda, Nancy Sinatra, and a cast of hundreds, is one of the most well-known biker exploitation films ever produced. In this classic film the “Angels” a California Motorcycle Club, travel across the state to retrieve a stolen motorcycle belonging to one of the clubs members “the Loser.” Heavenly Blues (Fonda) is the charismatic club president. At times he seems to have to ‘baby-sit’ his troop of fun-loving boozers and druggies. This one is a favorite of mine, because the producers actually used real Harley-Davidson choppers and actually cast some of the real members of the Hell’s Angels. In short, it is one of those films that give bikers in general a bad name, but those of us who really know the BTR 40 | BORNTORIDE.COM

true way of the biker lifestyle will find it entertaining, and at times hilarious. The Angels ride through the desert to Mecca, California to look for the Loser’s stolen motorcycle. They accuse a group of Mexicans in a repair shop of stealing the motorcycle when the Loser finds his brake pedal on a workbench. After some mild insults and accusations naturally, a fight breaks out in the shop and the “taco benders” as Fonda calls them wind up on the losing end. The police arrive, chasing the Angels on foot, and the Loser escapes on a parked police motorcycle. After a chase on mountain roads, one of the officers shoots the Loser in the back, and he later ends in a local hospital. Blues leads a small group of Angels to rescue the Loser and they subsequently “bust him out” of the hospital. In the melee a nurse is accosted by one of the Angels who knocks her out to keep the cops from discovering their presence in the hospital. The nurse later identifies Blues as one of the men she saw however; the audience knows that it was thanks to Blues’ intervention the assault stopped short of rape. Blues rebukes the member just before the cops notice their ‘suspect’ is gone. Later, the Loser dies at the Angels’ local watering hole from his injuries. The Angels move his body to an undertaker’s office-he demands cash “plus tax.” Using a forged death certificate the Angels arrange a funeral at a tiny church in the Loser’s rural hometown. During the service, Blues steps up to the minister and says those famous words “We just want to be free. Free to ride our machines without a hassle from the man. …” But when Blues says they just want to have fun, the Angels turn the service into a major party. The Angels remove the Loser from his Nazi flag-draped casket, sit him up and place a joint in his mouth. Meanwhile they also knock out the minister, tie him up and place him in the casket. Later, the Angels proceed to the Sequoia Grove cemetery to bury the Loser. The procession of noisy bikers gets the attention of the locals, who all gather to see the spectacle. One of the local kids throws a rock at the Angels and naturally yet another fight breaks out. This interruption prevents burying the Loser, and as police sirens wail in the background everyone scatters. One of the members begs Blues to go, but he refuses and tells his girl to leave with another member of the gang. This is where the other most remembered phrase comes in, as Blues sighs “there’s nowhere to go.” The last of the group leaves and Blues picks up a shovel and returns to the grave to bury the Loser. Find It Now GPS, The Original Security System Made in the USA! Now Available at Mountain Motorsports

Most of us have a lot of money invested in our two or three-wheeled motorcycles. Can you even imagine what it would feel like to realize that your bike has been stolen? If you get the ‘Find It Now’ device installed on your bike, there’s a good chance your bike will get back to you in an hour or two! Mike Conners, CEO and Founder of ‘Find It Now’ (FIN®) is the inventor of this invaluable item. I had the pleasure of speaking with him about his business and the Find It Now device. “I was in the automotive sub-prime business for 12 years before I started this. They used a device that would remind customers that it was time to make the payment on their vehicle. That was years ago! That was the pre-curser to more advanced things, and has evolved into using cellular and GPS.” “I’ve been riding for over 50 years. There wasn’t anything directly designed for motorcycles or power sports for security. You have LoJack but that only worked in the major cities of 27 states. It doesn’t work in all states

even today. So, over the years, I started to design a new product, working directly with the builders and engineers.” “We launched in 2009 at the V-Twin show in Cincinnati. We have over 300 dealers with coverage in all of North America including Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. FIN® is sold primarily in the Finance and Insurance departments in the dealerships. It’s also sold through the service department at dealerships. When people have a lot of money invested in their motorcycles, they want to keep them protected.” “Our success rate is 94.6%. We work strictly with the police departments. We not only save them time and money; we make their jobs easier for them.” Mike, a veteran, was in the Navy from 1964-1970. “VP of Operations, Ray Banken and Bill Pierson, our chief technology officer/ IT manager, have both been here from the beginning. Both are former Marines. Sales people around the country are also former military. My wife is the CFO. This is a family

business. We treat everyone like family. FIN® is Made in America, something we are very proud of. The major players in this company are all veterans and again, we are very proud of that. That goes a long way with me.” In closing, Mike gave me a great closing statement: “Thanks for checking us out and remember this, ‘The bitterness of poor quality and service remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.’ You will soon realize the quality of our brand and service is our pledge to you.” If you don’t have a security system on your bike, I highly recommend you calling your local motorcycle or power sport dealership today and make an appointment for your Find It Now GPS security system. Mountain Motorsports is one of the premier motorsports retails in the country and FIN® GPS Security is proud to be part of the team. Everywhere Eddy here and the heat is on! Riding here in Florida has been incredibly HOT this summer until a week ago when I had LOVE JUGS installed on my 2013 Harley Road Glide! Well after a week of riding the verdict is in. The Cool-Master all stainless steel LOVE JUGS far surpassed my expectations, and they look COOL too! They are touted as “The Most Powerful & Effective V-Twin Cooling System in the World” and I have to agree! I had Reinhardt’s Motorcycles in Lutz, FL install them for me, and as soon as we flipped the switch and heard the sound of the Dual Fans I knew I was going to like them! As I was riding, I felt the engine heat was amazingly lower. The big test came when I found myself in stop and go traffic and the engine heat was far less when standing still. So there you have it … when you’re doing a lot of hot weather riding and you want to keep your V-Twin cooler, I highly recommend getting a set of LOVE JUGS. I have to say that I loved jugs before, but now I really love jugs, my new LOVE JUGS that is! Until Next Time, Everywhere Eddy

Government Study Announced on Motorcycle Conspicuity By Matt Danielson, The Motorcycle Law Group

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has reported that there are plans on the federal level to conduct a study aimed at addressing motorcycle crash prevention. The reported study will apparently examine the impact of high-visibility clothing and how such clothing affects motorcycle crashes. Being that the study is in the infant stages, there is not enough information to either endorse or oppose the study. That being said, it is good to see our friends in Washington looking at ways to prevent motorcycle crashes rather than focusing solely on surviving them. Below is a copy of the MRF release for those who wish to read it. We will share additional details on our website and blog on this study as information becomes available. Craven Moorehead THE HEAT IS STILL ON!

The summer is waning and the possibilities that approach either leave you with shell shock or hopefulness. Last month, I wrote about the horrible mud-slinging in the upcoming election and discussed the possibilities of the possible results. It’s still a disgusting display of negativity, and lately I try to remain as positive as possible – even though there is little hope for any miracle windfall in my financial situation. Too many people promise and very few deliver. It is becoming a serious situation, not only for myself, but for thousands of people out there in our great country. I suppose that things are difficult in other locations on the planet but since I cannot afford to travel for leisure, I couldn’t report on it. I am a Christian by faith and from what I know about reading the Bible, (limited time studying – daily scripture reading excluded) I recall that the prophecy is that in the end times there will be floods, earthquakes, fires, pestilence and other unpleasant things. If this great book has the ability to predict the future, then we are looking at a short period of time to get our s#!t together and get right with God. I never know, so I just keep on going but from what I remember the good book said that the Anti-Christ would come and as much as I thought that it was Obama, for some reason we survived. Although I lost a lot of stuff in the past 8 years, I am still thankful that I am alive and have another day to live on and try to make stuff better. Regardless of my losses and my political slant on the upcoming election, I still am a little apprehensive thinking about the Democrats taking my guns away! As long as you go out and vote (I’m registered independent) it’s all good and I’m not going to try to tell you to vote for Trump. My own decisions have been the outcome of my current situation and y’all are probably sick of hearing my political rants, but I just can’t help it. Remember: “No good deed goes unpunished” … did I say that last month? At this point, I can’t

remember! Sometimes I wonder if there is a simple solution to the current situation. I wonder if people actually consider how we became the land of the free to begin with. I know as bikers, we are some of the remaining true patriots that love and protect our current level of freedom. Most all of us have served this great nation in one way or another, and a sure fire way to get your ass kicked is to try to insult a biker’s heritage! There are literally hundreds of biker borne organizations that are out there right now carrying on our fight to freedom of the open road. Yes, there are a myriad of rules and regulations involved in our lifestyle, but when compared to the trials and tribulations of our forefathers, these would appear to be a trivial afterthought. If there is any chance of saving our great country from the other oppressive regulations that are currently being forced down our throat, perhaps we should run a biker (on a write in ballot) in the upcoming election. ISIS wouldn’t stand a chance! Terrorism is not anything we would allow. Think about it! Dammit man. Maybe I should run for president! We could have some amazing perks. Imagine fifty cent premium fuel for motorcycles only. Or how about no tax on beer, or perhaps NO TAX AT ALL!! What about a Constitutional Amendment allowing free admission for bikers to the gentlemen’s club? Or perhaps the “Kill a biker – go to jail” dream could possibly fulfilled. I have a million great ideas and no money to put them into action. Perhaps I should be like the Clinton’s and start a “Craven Foundation” and raise millions of dollars for no reasonable purpose. Or maybe I should take my last $12.00 to the casino and hope to win hundreds of thousands. All these plans sound ridiculous and in reality they are. It’s a sad reality and the situation may appear to be getting worse every day – BUT – if you’re still alive and happy about being alive, then just roll with the changes and try to survive all the friggin drama!! I’ve learned that if I ignore the TV and ignore the negative political advertisements, I can feel a little better about life. Remember, these candidates are going to ramp-up the mud slinging in the next two months. At least in October the weather will get better and our riding season will be at hand. We at this time can enjoy the open road and – do yourself a favor and ignore all the political billboards. This crap will all be over in November I can start writing about something more entertaining. … The fall in the south is truly the time to get out there and enjoy your two-wheeled freedom. So while you’re out on the road take a moment to remember all the good brothers and sisters that fought the good fight to keep us free! Enjoy yourselves and stay tuned next month for more great tales from the trailer park. So until then, “speed safely” !

biker club, Heaven’s Fire. New situations occur as things hit home even harder when she learns that it was someone very close to her, who has been after her. In this exciting suspense filled action thriller- NATION’S FIRE. Grotte along with Born To Ride’s Ron Galletti, Robert Ori, Carmine Famiglietti and David M. The film is set to be filmed in Tampa, Florida and in Hollywood, CA. A 2017 release is planned for the film. Your depth of perception, acumen and discernment regarding the intricacies of our Nation’s Military is astonishing. Here is a quote from Laurene Landon. “I fell in love with

Georgia. The relationship between Gloria and Georgia is very powerful. Such a PATRIOTIC script. I usually predict what’s going to happen next but was blindsided every time . Beautifully crafted three dimensional characters. This is the ONE for you Thomas. Riveting, action-packed, heart-stopping sprinkled with a little something called magic. I would be honored to play Myra. Thank you for thinking of me. I will do the role justice, promise. Love how you empower women in this and burn a hole into the hearts and souls of bikers across America. It will mitigate and ameliorate the unfortunate stigma so many have been stamped with. My legendary best friend-- Larry Cohen could not have scribed a better thematic echo. I salute you.” Stay Tuned for some Big News on the cast and how you can be in Nation’s Fire.

Christian Motorcyclists Association Jesus is Always There

Recently I saddled up after a too long hiatus from being on the bike, and I noticed that in the time I hadn’t gotten to go for a ride, my bike had gotten covered with dust. Not only that, I noticed some boot scuff on one of the pipes, but it was time to go, so I fired up the bike and decided to forget about the dust and the dirt until I got home from a much needed ride. As I rode with a group of friends, it occurred to me that there were dark clouds ahead, clouds that soon turned into a downpour. Oh well, the bike was getting that much needed cleaning! The rain removed the major grime, but we all know what happens after the rain, the damp road grime finds a way to get all over the bike, necessitating a deep cleaning. We got home tired and decided to take care of the dirt the next day, but we had another ride scheduled, so the grime rode with us. Isn’t that the way it goes, we have to constantly clean our bikes due to the ease in which they pick up a film of dirt. As I was thinking on BTR 56 | BORNTORIDE.COM

this, I realized that I don’t always take the best of care of my bike, sometimes letting it get really filthy before taking the time to clean it up, even though I really like it when the bike is so clean it is like a mirror. This led me to another observation, about one who takes such incredible care of me, and who cleans my life up for me. In 1 John 1:9, the Bible says, “If we confess our sins, He (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Just like my bike, my life sometimes runs through some grime or even just some dusty conditions, and I need to be restored and cleansed of my shortcomings or sin. It’s not that I want to do wrong, sometimes my life is like being on a ride and trying to avoid the storms of life, but no matter which way I turn I run into a downpour, and need a cleansing. The thing that is so cool is that while I may wait to clean my dirty bike, Jesus is always there to wash away my sin immediately! I simply confess my erroneous ways and He’s right there with forgiveness and restoration. While my bike gets cleaned when I get around to it, Jesus makes sure that I am forgiven in the very moment of confession. It is through His sacrifice on the cross that He has that power of restoration! If you need that precious cleaning from Jesus, call out His name and He’ll be there for you! Then your life can be a mirror that reflects His perfect love. In The Wind, Denny Dingler
