RIDING AT NIGHT

CARS WAITING TO PULL OUT

Riding along a wide arterial street, with an uninterrupted view of traffic ahead of you, you observe a minivan waiting to pull out of a shopping center parking lot. You make eye contact with the driver, and visually confirm that the vehicle is not moving. But just as you are about to pass the shopping center exit, the driver accelerates into your path. Strategy: Though we tend to focus our attention at intersections in an urban environment, there are also potential danger zones between intersections, as this example illustrates. These are situations where the small profile of a motorcycle can be problematic. Drivers waiting to pull out may not even see you approaching in the busy traffic environment. Even if they do “see” you, they may fail to accurately judge your closing speed, as occurred in the above example. Eye contact in this situation can be misleading. Have an open area scoped out in case you need to take evasive action when approaching any vehicle that could pull out into your path. As you approach, check the vehicle’s front tire, which will provide your first indication that the car is starting to move. Any step that you can take to increase your visibility to other drivers (wearing a bright-colored helmet or jacket and using your high-beam during daytime) is especially helpful in situations like this. If it’s clear the other driver doesn’t see you, honk your horn! (Just be ready in case the driver doesn’t hear it.)

Above the Ton

Sport bikes are exhilarating to ride, for their cornering abilities, lean angle capability, readily available raw power, head-snapping acceleration and high speeds. None of which should ever be fully exploited on the street. Admittedly, I’ve gone a little faster than the law would allow with my Triumph 955 Sprint a few times, but I have never “hit the ton” (i.e. run over 100 mph) out on public roads. Those speeds are better (and legally) experienced at a track day. I’m not full blown “track rat,” riding track days every other weekend, with a dedicated track-prepped race bike, but over the past 4 years, I’ve tried to participate in at least one annually, and they are among my most exciting experiences. For my birthday in September, my family paid for me to spend a day with the great folks of N2 Track Days, running the famed Road Atlanta. This was my second opportunity to ride there, the previous being in 2013. I attended with several friends from my CMA Kneebenders riding group, and as always, made a few new friends across the day. Best of all, I safely ran my Triumph at speeds I’d never attained before, on two wheels or four. Following check-in and completing tech inspection on the bikes, we divided into our groups—Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. Since I get to ride track so infrequently, I had opted to ride Novice. After morning meetings to go over track rules, we dismissed to suit up for the day. Each group took to the track for 20-minute sessions, and upon hitting the course, I remembered why I love Road Atlanta so much. Dramatic elevation changes, fast sweepers, tight corners, the famed “Esses” and three straights, the best being “the back straight” from turn 7 downhill to turns 10A and 10B, the straight being just shy of a mile in length. With a slight left at turn 8, then a small right lean at turn 9, all downhill, Road Atlanta boasts one of the most thrilling straights in American track racing. On a motorcycle, speeds well in excess of 100 mph are easily

achieved, at multiple points around this track. It’s an incredible course. A friend asked me, regarding those high speeds, “What’s it like to go that fast?” So I tried to capture the experience with words. “Exiting the top turn 7 from full lean, it’s getting the bike upright as quickly as possible, then hard on the throttle, clicking up through the gears, winding to redline in each. ‘Breaking the ton’ is fun, but the further and faster above 100 mph, the greater the rush. By the left-hand kink at turn 8, I’m already passing 125. Chin is on the tank, throttle is pinned wide open, and I’m wrapped around the bike, clinging for dear life. Approaching 135 mph, the windshield

is buffeting, the whole bike is shaking, and the roar of the big triple is screaming in my ears, either in protest or for more. The wind sounds like a tornado around my helmet as the scenery flies by in a blur at 202 feet per second. When the downhill run doglegs right at turn 9, a quick speedo glance shows I’m running 140 mph. The noise is deafening, the sensations are coursing through my entire body like an electric current. Suddenly it’s off the throttle, beginning to squeeze hard on the front binders, and downshifting as I enter the braking zone. Time to set up for 10A and 10B. The rest of the course is fantastic, but all I want to do is get back around to that long downhill stretch again.” Running at these speeds (and faster I’m sure) on a motorcycle is turbulent, is explosive, is violent. And I can’t get enough. I replay that day over and over in my mind, reliving every corner, curve, and straight. I eagerly anticipate the next time I’ll be able to spend a day riding my sport bike where it’s most at home—on the track. If you want to ride at furious high speeds, and push the limits of man and machine, do it in a prepped, controlled, legal environment. Trust me, you’ll be hooked, as I am. Rob

the original bad boy of country music Craven: We are at the Born To Ride Day of the Dead Jam and I’m sitting out here with my friend David Allan Coe. Ladies and Gentlemen, the world famous David Allan Coe! Millions and millions of hits, how are you doing today, pal? David Allan Coe: Well, I’m doing okay considering everything. I’m doing good. The rain bothers me a bit. CM: Me too. I’m losing my voice. David: Yeah, me too. CM: Well David, I didn’t want to get into great details about it, but we were looking at a picture of that accident you were involved in. That was pretty damned bad, David. You’re a lucky man and blessed to be here! DAC: Yeah, it was a very bad wreck and on top of it being a bad wreck it was all over the news that I had died. So people were calling my wife asking, “Is he dead?” So she said, “No, he’s not dead.” CM: Well, a lot of people have rumored everyone’s death at one time. Maybe you’re more famous when you’re gone than when you’re actually here. But I want to ask you something; can you remember how many hits you’ve recorded? I know you’ve recorded

hundreds and hundreds of songs. You’ve had so many chart-topping hits! You’re a country music icon. I mean literally. Give me a little history on that. DAC: Well, as a song writer, I’ve had over 200 songs that I’ve written that were on the charts. As an artist, I’ve had 86 number one records in this country and abroad. I’ve written over 10,000 songs and still writing every day and still recording. CM: That leads into my next question; you’re continuing on with your career. A great mind that comes up with great music like that you got to keep on going. We’re going to see another album, right? DAC: We’ve already recorded an album, “Just As I Am.” These are songs that I wrote after the accident. My wife and I recorded this with the current line-up of the band in Florida. So it’s a kind of Florida Country music type of thing. It’s a lot of good time songs. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to do any of them today because my wife never made it to the stage. She was dealing with some issues so I had to change my whole show. I sing half the show with my wife singing along with me. It was kind of a test but we got through it.

CM: You guys sounded great! When we were talking about some of those things we talked about, “Johnny Cash helped me get out of prison.” That’s actually one of the lines that the viewers would like to know about. DAC: John came to the prison I was in to do a show. I paid a trustee five cartons of cigarettes to take some of my songs and give them to Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash wrote a letter to the parole board in the state of Ohio asking them to commute my sentence from Death Row to Life in prison. He thought I was the greatest living songwriter in the world. So five years later they commuted my sentence from Death Row to Life in prison. They sent me to the Marion Correctional Institution in Marion, Ohio. After two years, I was released on parole and allowed to go to Nashville to pursue my career as a songwriter and a singer. Ten years later, with the help of all my friends in Nashville, the governor of the state of Ohio restored my rights as an American citizen. CM: That’s an amazing story and an amazing journey for you. You’ve gone a long, long way! Once again, ladies and gentlemen, this guy is a legend!

the original bad boy of country music David Allan Coe! The real David Allan Coe! The stories that you sing about in your songs are mostly true stories. I know that! Do you have a favorite song, David? DAC: Oh geeze! Probably the next one that I write will be my favorite! CM: That’s what I’m talking about! DAC: Songs are like children; you love them all for different reasons. Ron Galletti: David, it’s great to have you here at the Day of the Dead. What do you think about this gig, man? DAC: I usually don’t go on this early in the day. So I still haven’t caught up with myself. I was up gambling most of the night (chuckles). The next thing I know, my wife is saying, “You’re going up on stage in 15 minutes, boy!” She’s a whip cracker. CM: Maybe we can get you back up later! Let’s go get a couple beers and a shot of Jack and get you to do a couple of songs. That’s what I’m saying! Yeah, it’s tough coming on in the daytime as a musician. I can understand that. But we are really glad that you are here. I know you’re a biker and our show is all about bikers. Tell us about your motorcycles and all your experiences. DAC: I started the Outlaws Motorcycle Club which is a 1%er Motorcycle Club in the state of Tennessee 47 years ago. I’ve

BTR 26 | BORNTORIDE.COM

been in the Outlaws Motorcycle Club for 47 years and am now retired from the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. I still see a lot of my Brothers. I’m not full-fledged into it anymore, but I’m still around enough for them to know I’m existing. CM: That kind of tells the whole story we are talking about. You’ve been riding for 47 years, you’ve been writing songs for years. You’re an all-around bikers biker, man! DAC: I was the first man to ever be on the front cover of Easy Rider Magazine. Only women were on the cover of Easy Rider Magazine. 1984 David Allan Coe was on the cover of Easy Rider Magazine. CM: I think I have that issue. I work for Born To Ride Magazine. I’m not sure I can get you on the cover of that one! Anything more you’d like to say? DAC: I just want to thank everybody for sticking by my wife as she was taking care of me after the accident. She’s pretty much been on her own. She’s gotten a lot of help from people and I appreciate that very much. CM: I’m going to tell you something; all

our viewers around the world appreciate David Allan Coe! Thank you for taking the time to talk with us on Born To Ride television. We all appreciate it!

2016 is the 100th anniversary of Augusta and Adeline Van Buren’s courageous and unprecedented ride across the United States on motorcycles. The Sisters’ Centennial Motorcycle Ride was July 3-23. It honored and celebrated the female motorcycling heroines of the past, as well as promoting the growth of women motorcyclists in the motorcycling community. Alisa Clickenger is the brain child behind this amazing event. “I’m a moto traveler and motorcycle journalist. I used to lead motorcycle tours for a large company,

and I now run my own motorcycle touring company, focusing on motorcycle tours for women. I led demo rides for Kawasaki 15 or so years ago and I’m part of the team that leads them now for BMW.” I was curious to know why she came up with such a powerful and immense event. Laughing, Alisa said, “I must have been crazy! Several years ago, a colleague and I came up with this idea to do a women’s empowerment motorcycle tour. What we would do is teach them HOW to go on a tour. We had lots of support for these

women. Each day we had a seminar for the women; how to pack a bike, how to pick up a dropped motorcycle, the importance of hydration, etc. I have wanted to lead a group of women across the United States who didn’t think they could do it. I’ve had this idea for years. I bumped into the story of the Van Buren Sisters – again – and that’s when it went “ding!” These ladies are my heroines and I wanted to do this in 2016 – since 2016 marked the 100th anniversary of their historic ride. It all just started coming together – in pieces. It came together BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 31

because it was supposed to. Everything was falling into place in ways that I couldn’t even imagine. I’ve never done an event like this ever before. My paradigm is small, wellrun tours. I’ve never put together a coast to coast tour before.” In 1916 the Van Buren Sisters were the first women to cross the continental United States, each on her own motorcycle. They became the first women to reach the 14,115 foot summit of Pikes Peak each on her own motorcycle. In 2002 the Sisters were inducted into the American Motorcyclists BTR 32 | BORNTORIDE.COM

Association Hall of Fame and in 2003 they were inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. Alisa and her group of Sister’s Centennial travelers journeyed from Brooklyn, New York, to Springfield, MA, to Latrobe, PA, to Columbus, OH, to Anamosa, IA, to McCook, Nebraska, to Colorado Springs, CO, to Pikes Peak, CO, and ended up in San Francisco, CA. Two charities will be funded as a result of the Sisters’ Centennial Motorcycle Ride’s event efforts:

FINAL SALUTE, INC., A National women’s veterans’ organization which provides temporary and permanent housing for the over 500,000 homeless female veterans in the United States. WOMEN’S COALITION OF MOTORCYCLISTS is an organization providing funding for motorcycle train-thetrainer scholarships. This program helps enlarge the number of female motorcycle instructors and coaches for road, dirt and track. Alisa continued, “I feel like I am doing

exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. I personally believe that when you are completely aligned with mind, spirit, body and soul, the Universe lines up with you. Every step of the way it has felt like this is what I’m supposed to be doing. This was a huge leap of faith for me. I had no funding for this event nor did I know what this would entail. This whole thing is amazing and I am filled with gratitude. I’m so grateful for all my volunteers and staff who have signed on to ride with us! I’m so appreciative that everyone has come together and realized the same vision as I do!”

Where does Alisa’s inspiration come from? “I have a lot of inspiration that comes from colleagues and from people I meet out of the blue. I also get purpose from meditation and helmet time – ideas just come to me! I’m really fortunate that this was meant to be. I’m hearing more and more people saying we are making history. So shall it be! Some days I just feel like I am holding on just like when I am dual sport riding saying, ‘I can do this! I can do this!’ Motorcycling has helped me embrace those things that are challenging and just power through them!”

This ride has been blessed with a nice amount of Sponsors that have seen the value and importance of the ride. “BMW is our title sponsor. They stepped up and made this event happen. Then more and more companies came out and helped us. It’s interesting to see who gives lip service to this idea of women and motorcycling and who doesn’t. It’s a lot of work but totally worth it!” Thank you, Alisa, for sharing this great story with the readers of Born To Ride magazine! Congratulations on this powerful and immense accomplishment! DIAMOND GUSSET JEANS Product Review

Let me start off by saying that while I was attending the Great American Motorcycle show in Atlanta, I saw many vendors promoting all kinds of clothing designed for the rider. What caught my eye about the Diamond Gusset Jeans display was the promotion of a Kevlar lined jean that could stand up to road rash. While I am not going to go out and slide down the road to see how well these jeans hold up, I will say that these jeans appear to be very well made and put together. I have had the opportunity to wear the jeans on numerous rides over the past couple of months, and I can honestly say that they are some of the most comfortable jeans that I have ever worn. My first thought was that the jeans would be heavy and bulky because of the Kevlar that is sewn into the butt, hip & thigh area as well as the knees. What a surprise when I put them on and found that I could not even tell that the Kevlar was there! The jeans also sport a “Diamond Gusset” in the crotch area that allows for extra freedom when sitting on a motorcycle. The gusset allows for extra room while mounting the bike and while straddling the bike. It finally provides me with a pair of jeans that do not hurt because they are pulled to tight in the crotch! In addition to the safety factor and the crotch comfort of these jeans, the company has

also added just a few added features that make these jeans just a bit nicer to wear. They have included a “D” ring for ease of holding your keys, a coin pocket on the right side of the jeans and Velcro ankle tabs to pull the jeans tight around your boot. These may seem like insignificant features, but they really do add to the jeans. One feature that I really appreciate is the fact that they have gone out of their way to provide a wide range of sizes! Now with a road name of “Jelly Belly,” you can imagine how I got that name—it’s not from being skin and bones! In addition to being proud of the years of good southern country eating, I also have another slight obstacle—I am vertically challenged and only have a 27” inseam. The folks at Diamond Gusset stepped up to that challenge and made a set of jeans that fit me from their stock lineup.

Visit www.AmericanGusset.com to purchase a set of the DEFENDER jean series!

I did not have to special order anything! Living in Ellijay, GA, I knew that Levi’s had a plant years ago in Blue Ridge, GA just 20 miles up the road, but I also knew that they had gone out of business at that location about 15 years ago. I was surprised to learn that Diamond Gusset Jeans had bought that location and has been operating there for some time. I also just learned that they have since moved to a brand new state of the art facility in Blue Ridge. With that being said, I am proud to say that these jeans are home grown right here in North Georgia and is deserving of a destinations ride in the future to tour their plant. Keep your eyes open in the destination series! When you first are shopping, the price might seem a little high, as they retail for $125.00, but how much is safety and you skin worth? If you have been fortunate enough to have never gone down and gotten road rash, then you might not appreciate it as much as the rest of us. Having Kevlar in all of the right places adds peace of mind while riding down the road. Believe me, I would pay much more than $125.00 to keep from having road rash! Diamond Gusset also manufactures regular jeans with the Diamond Gusset crotch for everyday wear. I cannot emphasize enough how comfortable these jeans are and how well made they are! Look for them at your favorite bike shop or visit them on the web at http://americangusset. com/ and purchase a set of the DEFENDER series on line! Ride Safe and Ride Often, Eric Wieberg

Need to know: Motor Vehicle Insurance for Motorcyclists By Matt Danielson, The Motorcycle Law Group

We all hope we’ll never be involved in an accident, but the reality is that many of us will be. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think riding is dangerous. But, when you get out on the road, you’re sharing it with other riders and drivers and can be at the mercy of poor road and weather conditions. While insurance can’t prevent an accident, it is the best means to protect yourself after the fact. So whether you’re looking to insure a new bike or review your current policy, it’s important to know how much you – and your bike – are protected. What type of policy is best? How much coverage should I have? If another driver is at fault, won’t their insurance cover the costs? These are some of the most common questions clients ask me, and are a good place to start. Full coverage: Is that enough? Not necessarily. The term ‘full coverage’ can be misleading because it doesn’t necessarily mean the policy will cover everything in full in the event of an accident. Full coverage typically includes all the major types of coverages your insurance provider offers. But, some insurance companies define ‘full coverage’ differently. What’s more important is how much coverage you bought. If you also bought the minimum amount of coverage (read: coverage limit, $25,000 for example), you will most likely receive only the minimum limits for your injury, regardless of how serious it is or the verdict you receive in court.

If someone injures me, won’t their insurance pay the expenses? Yes, but only to the limits of their policy. If you’re in an accident and the other motorist is at fault, their insurance will pay out, but that doesn’t mean it’ll cover all the costs. The other motorist’s insurance coverage will only pay up to their policy limit, and if they’re like most, they bought the minimum amount their state requires. For example, the minimum amount of insurance a person must have in North Carolina is $30,000. In Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia, the minimum is $25,000. Regardless of how serious the injuries or damages are (read: expensive), the other motorists’ insurance will not have to pay you any more than their policy limits. If the person that hit you has only minimum limits, that probably won’t be enough to cover your medical bills, lost wages, pain, suffering and inconvenience, which you’re entitled to if you’re in a serious accident due to the negligence of another motorist. Can’t I sue the other person if it was their fault? Yes, you can, but that won’t change the amount of money their insurance will pay you. Let’s say you sue and get a verdict of $500,000. The defendant’s insurance company still won’t have to pay you any more than the defendant’s policy limits. So, if the defendant’s policy limits are $25,000, that’s the maximum amount their insurance is required to pay toward the costs of the accident.

Then I can recover from the defendant’s personal assets, right? More often than not, no. Most people don’t have enough personal assets to cover the costs of serious injuries. And, assets jointly owned with a spouse – like a bank account, house or land – typically cannot be used to satisfy a judgement. Even if you’re in a situation where you can collect from a defendant’s personal assets, the defendant may have the ability to declare bankruptcy and have your judgement against them discharged. Insurance coverage can be complicated, and not always relevant – until you really need it. Next time we’ll explain coverage types, protecting yourself against uninsured or underinsured motorists and how to talk to your insurance provider. Until then, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Craven Moorehead Memories of the Simpler Days

Curiously, I don’t have a lot to write about this month. My inspiration often comes from memories, travels and events that have impacted my life in one way or another, whether those particular events have a positive or negative outcome doesn’t really matter. Usually, I would consume a few beers before I begin to structure a story but today I just started out dry – kinda like one of those empty chalk boards that seriously require chalk to send their message. So, while I am on the way to the house to get some chalk (read beer) the content may continue to improve or perhaps not. You as readers of my column know that it is like one of those fancy boxes of chocolate and you never really know what you are going to get. Sure, the images on the box in some cases tempts you to purchase it but often when you actually open the thing, the photographic representation may be off by several percentage points. This is the very reason that I only eat Kit-Kat bars. They are consistent in their ingredients and always yield a crunchy - chocolate flavor that always stays the course without variation. I have recently discovered that I am not the only aficionado of this treat and it seems that this item is the ‘drug of choice’ for a lot of folks. But my addiction to candy, albeit a little-known fact for most, is probably less entertaining than some of the other crap that I write about. It is often said that I am not easily impressed or satisfied for that matter, but lately I have become more and more focused on simple things. Things like having a place to live, something to eat, a cold beer in the fridge and an endless highway to terrorize – I mean to ride on. … I also enjoy playing music, hosting the occasional bike

night or charity event and doing radio. Mine is not necessarily a life of fame and fortune. Making lots and lots of money would be nice, but I have learned to pretty much live without that luxury. I usually get enough dough to survive for the most part, but it is a vivid fantasy that I would one day be able to get some stuff that I need. You know, simple stuff like a decent car, a new motorcycle, a new computer to terrorize – ooops I meant entertain my readers with – or perhaps a heater for my shop. Man, it’s cold out here! But I am eternally grateful for all the things I DO have. Plus the Daytona 500 marks the return of NASCAR for the season and the Superbowl is right around the corner. This technically is a great month for my usual pastime of watching TV due to the aforementioned events and the fact that they are on local broadcast channels which I can actually get here in the trailer park is a gigantic bonus. Life is good all the way around – but wait – there’s more! A lot of people don’t do what I do (watch aired or cable television) and most people use their mobile devices or tablets to get their information and entertainment. One day I was at the Born To Ride office and Ron and myself were discussing the future of multimedia, the Internet and trending technologies that people are using. After a few hours of brainstorming, groveling and decision making, Ron and Born To Ride decided to launch a LIVE radio program that features everything that is related to the biker world. This programming is truly unique because it bonds together the key features of both radio and television. Yeah, you can actually see us doing the show while we talk to you on the studio line. It’s a great format that you can take with you anywhere, on any device and because it touches upon everything of interest to bikers and the lifestyle that we love it is a must-see program! I know that most of you have seen the advertisements in the magazine regarding this show and hopefully more and more of you will call in, participate and be part of the excitement that is Born To Ride Radio. I am very grateful to be able to co-host this show with Ron and we expect this format to continue to excel in the arena of biker related entertainment. This program airs live every Tuesday night from 8PM until 11PM and you can be part of the action by calling the studio line at 813-756-6444. See the live feed and recorded videos at www.borntoride.com www.pirate-radio-network. com and a few other sites. Technology itself has demanded that we embrace new ideas and concepts so perhaps it may be time for me to upgrade from my old flip-phone. I know that being old-school is sometimes cool, but if I must move forward I often wonder what little piece of the past I should take with me. I suppose that maybe it will be only memories of the simpler days.

Biker Movie Review

This month, it’s “Wild Hogs” starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy. The film was released in 2007, and as far as ‘biker exploitation films’ go, I suppose that definition probably doesn’t really fit. It is however ‘wildly’ entertaining if you are a comedy fanatic, or middle-aged gay basher. The story centers around four middle-aged businessmen who are bored with their regular suburban lives—embark on a road trip on their Harleys. Doug (Tim Allen) is a dentist; Bobby (Martin Lawrence) is a plumber; Woody (Travolta) is a bankrupt husband of a swimsuit model, who is divorcing him. Dudley (Macy) is a computer geek, who seeks the companionship of a woman (possibly his first experience) and constantly falls off his motorcycle in some very well performed stunt work. The action, the sets, and riding footage were quite good. The acting was dramatic at times, but continues to make the four look way too ‘Rubbie’ to be realistic. The overuse of gay references became redundant to a point, but overall it remained funny I guess. The road trip is filled with humorous moments, such as the four sleeping close together scantily clad, after burning their tent down and being discovered by a policeman who is overtly gay, and actually jealous of their situation. A little farther down the road, the four are skinnydipping in a pond when a traveling family joins them. The family discovers their state of undress while searching for crawdads, and later by the very same – very gay – and very naked policeman. The Hogs escape from the pond on their motorcycles, and during one of their frequent urination stops, they watch in awe as a large group of bikers pass by. This group was the Del Fuegos Motorcycle Club, and the Hogs meet them later down the road at their “Biker Bar” Clubhouse. This meeting goes bad of course, and Dudley ends up losing his motorcycle to “Jack” (Ray Liotta) who is the club’s president. The Hogs are ridiculed and sent down the road with

Dudley in tow in a sidecar attached to Woody’s motorcycle. Less than a mile down the road, Woody decides to walk back to the biker bar and retrieve Dudley’s bike. As the others wait beside the highway, Woody sneaks up, cuts the fuel lines on several of the club’s bikes, and takes off on Dudley’s bike. When Jack discovers the bike missing, the club fires up to give chase, but their pursuit is halted when Jack discards his cigarette into a puddle of gas, which causes their (clubhouse) building to explode and burn to the ground. Meanwhile Woody returns to the trio with Dudley’s bike and to their surprise spins a tale of threatening the club with legal action. The four Hogs ride by the bar waving and Woody gives them the finger just before the whole place blows up. Seeing the massive explosion in his rearview mirror, Woody refuses to stop – even for gas—and the Hogs end up pushing their motorcycles through the desert, where they end up in the small-town of Madrid. In Madrid, the Hogs have to stay the night to wait for the gas station to open. The Sheriff mistakes the four for Del Fuegos members. He tells them the club members terrorize the town frequently. He explains the small police force (who received weapons training by playing the video game Doom) is unable to do anything about them. Meanwhile Jack sends his members out in pairs to locate the Hogs. The Madrid chili festival is held that night and Dudley furthers his interest in Maggie (Marisa Tomei) who owns the local diner. As he courts her, Bobby comes across two Del Fuegos in town. Because of Woody’s previous explanation and believing that he is untouchable, Bobby humiliates the two bikers by squirting them with ketchup and mustard. Under orders from Jack, the two club members refuse to do anything and Bobby appears to win this battle. The town praises the Wild Hogs as saviors, considering them a friendly biker gang who can protect them. They are appreciative to the point that Dudley spends the night with Maggie. The next morning the Del Fuegos ride into town 50 strong. Jack yells to the townspeople that his gang will vandalize the town, starting with the diner, until the Wild Hogs come out to fight. Woody reveals his lie about the biker bar incident, and the Hogs hide inside Maggie’s house with the local Sheriff. As they peer out the window, Dudley walks out alone to face the gang, armed only with a tire iron. They tape him up and hang him from a tree like a piñata. Doug launches a plan to rescue him; and he is able to convince the other two to help. After the failed attempt, the Hogs decide to fight the club in front of the diner. The Fight is four-onfour with the Hogs taking repeated beatings. Refusing to quit, the Hogs get back up and challenge the club once more, but this time the entire town comes to back them up. Armed with axe handles, sticks and the like, Jack laughs and refers to them as the Children of the Corn. At this moment the Del Fuegos founder Damien Blade (Peter Fonda) arrives on the scene. Blade chastises Jack and the Del Fuegos for picking on four men and the townspeople, and reveals he actually thought his bar was a “S#!tHOLE” and explained that he insured the bar for twice what it was worth. Now we also learn that Jack is Damien’s son, and he points out to Jack how he forgot what being out on the open road is about and that it doesn’t involve thuggish behavior and violence. The gang soon departs, and the Hogs are again heroes. That is until the Doug and Bobby’s wives arrive in town! After a brief reconciliation, the Hogs venture out to their original destination, the Pacific Coast. Probably one of the best scenes in the movie occurs during the credits. There, the Del Fuegos get a new clubhouse courtesy of Ty Pennington and the Extreme Makeover Home Edition cast, and the emotions run high as they view their new clubhouse equipped with leather covered parking lot, and a bidet! Now that’s gay! I would give it 3 out of 5 stars for a good effort at wasting an hour and a half of my time.

Christian Motorcyclists Association He Will Send Showers of Blessings

My bike recently needed servicing so I hopped on and took it for a ride to the shop. The weather was turning south, but I figured I had plenty of time to get to the shop before the bottom fell out. I simply thought that a little wind would just keep the ride more comfortable temperature wise, as well as being more enjoyable. Normally, I wouldn’t pay much attention to the woods alongside of the road, but that day I was really aware of those little leaves that were missing as their absence made the trees along the road look barren, like being in a state of drought. The problem is that without those beautiful green leaves to both protect me and help dampen the impact from the wind, I found myself fighting some very strong wind gusts blowing me and the bike all over the lane in which I was traveling. A big blast of wind would hit and push the bike one way, then in an effort to correct the direction of travel, I would push the bike in the opposite way and end up over-correcting the direction of travel. It seemed like the harder I tried to keep the bike moving forward in a straight line the more it drifted all over the place. I was BTR 56 | BORNTORIDE.COM

reminded just how grateful I am for the showers of blessings that are so common in Florida, and for the protective help of the leaves that the rains usually provide. I was reminded that in the Bible, in Ezekiel 34:26 we are told “I will send showers of blessings in season; there shall be showers of blessings!” When we find ourselves walking, or riding, in a time of drought, and find ourselves being pushed all over the road of life, God is there. He knows what your season is, and exactly what you need, and He knows it even before you are aware of the need. He is waiting to hear you call for Him to touch your life with His grace and His peace. Best of all, He promises right here, that there will be showers of blessings in the right season. He is a God of perfect timing and He loves you and wants the best for you in everything. He is able to meet every need that you face, every time you are in the midst of a challenge. Remember that God promises to bless all who call upon Him and trust Him to calm their anxieties and take their cares. If you are hurting, feeling like life is tossing you all around, or just feeling like you are in a time of drought, God is there! He will hear you and bless you in great ways. Trust God, He’s got you in His hands, and He will never let you go. In The Wind, Denny Dingler
