THE SHARK
Street Strategies at Work
Imagine a typical scene from a nature-network documentary, one that shows a fur seal frantically swimming with a great white shark in ruthless pursuit, the huge snout of the shark filling the television screen. In the corresponding street scene, you’re riding your motorcycle down a wide arterial street when a huge sedan closes in on you, its grille filling your mirrors. Just as you change lanes to get out of this car-shark’s path, the tailgater also changes lanes behind you. What are your best strategies for avoiding (or evading) this situation? Strategy: As soon as you notice a tailgater approaching in your mirrors, take steps to get out of the way.
BTR 12 | BORNTORIDE.COM
Activate your turn signal and make an obvious, decisive lane change to the right or left. If the car is already upon you before you notice its presence, take care before making a move to avoid the “shark pursuit” situation described above. When evading a shark, signal early and pause for just an instant (to make sure that the tailing driver isn’t also planning to change into the same lane) before making a definite and decisive move into the other lane. Your actions should clearly communicate your intentions to the other driver so he is fully aware of what moves you intend to make. For more safety information go to www.msf-usa.org

that; that’s always been my inspiration. I try to keep that industry-look on each one of my bikes. As you can see from one of my bikes here, the chain is actually the backbone of the motorcycle as well as the swing arm. Like I said, I try t o keep that industry look with the rawness of the machines. I concentrate mainly on simplicity; keep it simple but to have it raw with the Mad Max feel.
Debbie: I see you have a little bit of that artillery going there too? Rafik: (Laughing) Well, that’s actually a real grenade that I cut in half and welded shut and machined it to be the brake fluid reservoir. I consider myself very blessed. This is without a doubt one of my favorite ride routes in the High Country. Rolling out in the cool air of the morning we made our way west toward Tennessee and Roan Mountain. Naturally, there was a breakfast stop along the way because you have to be well fed and energized to enjoy The Roan to its fullest. The northern half of Roan Mountain is located in Tennessee. The ride from the little town of Roan Mountain, TN is an uphill climb that takes you past a state park and some of the most scenic rural countryside to be found in the area. The road is a combination of sweepers and twisty bits that comes at you like a really good Bluegrass tune; some parts slow and easy, others faster and more lively. This stretch of road is so beautiful that it is what I usually see when I close my eyes and think about riding in the mountains. At the top of Roan Mountain you cross back into North Carolina for the downhill run. You really have to pay attention for the next several miles as the turns are no less exciting and gravity joins in the mix to pull your bike faster and faster into them. This part of the ride is all about making your way over to NC 80 for some truly enjoyable riding that culminates upon reaching an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Reaching NC 80, we continued southward as we rode through one set of twisty curves after another. This section of NC 80 is not only twisty, but is also truly undulating as the road heaves up and down with each new measure of curves. NC 80 is not for the timid or the faint-at-heart, but if you’re willing to brave it, this two-lane country road will put a big, broad smile on your face. The other thing that I really like about NC 80 is that it passes through more of the rural, real-life parts of the mountains. Riding NC 80 from Bakersville to the Parkway takes you far away from the tourist traps and the souvenir stands. You get a glimpse into the lives of the folks who call these mountains home just like generations of their forebears before them. One stop I always make on this stretch of road is at Kona Baptist Church in the little community of Kona, NC, where you will find the multiple graves of Charlie Silver. Charlie Silver was murdered and dismembered by his wife in December of 1831, but his remains weren’t found for quite some time after his death. Charlie’s family held a funeral BTR 22 | BORNTORIDE.COM
for Charlie and buried his remains … what they could find of him, that is. As it turns out, they kept finding pieces of Charlie, so he ended up being buried in multiple graves in accordance with the custom at the time that considered it improper to open a grave. Charlie’s wife, Frankie, was tried, convicted, and hanged at the age of 18 for his murder. Her grave is located in the woods a little bit north of Morganton, NC. The whole story makes for interesting reading and is well documented on various Internet sources if you’re inclined to learn more. The easiest way to get started is to do a Google search on the name “Charlie Silver.” Back on the road from our stop in Kona, it wasn’t long before we were on the Blue Ridge Parkway and winding our way toward Mount Mitchell and the highest point east of the Mississippi River. Mount Mitchell is always a great place to visit. The ride up the mountain is enjoyable and the views from the summit can’t be beaten. There is a little restaurant located about halfway up the mountain that serves some really good food and you begin to understand why so many motorcyclists put Mount Mitchell on their “must-do” lists for the area. Leaving Mount Mitchell we headed back to the north on the Blue Ridge Parkway and traveled it all the way to Pineola and our base camp at the motel. Another great day of riding was under our belts as we made our way up one more mountain for a
home-cooked feast prepared by fans of our motorcycling adventures. But, that’s another story. … Day Four – Charming the Snake This was a full day of RIDING!!! We set out early and headed over to Elizabethton, TN, for breakfast at Hook’s Restaurant, which is one of our traditional stops during the leaf ride. Hook’s is one of our favorite breakfast joints because – as they locals told me – “They put it on you!” Translated, putting it on you means that at Hook’s you get an ample, belly-filling breakfast for an extremely reasonable price and plenty of days-gone-by charm to boot. After breakfast we headed north on TN 91, bound for Shady Valley, TN, which is home to the Shady Valley Country Store; a motorcycling Mecca in the area. Along the way, I took a slight detour to check out Blue Hole, an interesting and unique waterfall that lies about a mile to the west off TN 91, just a few miles outside Elizabethton. The hike down to the falls is easy enough ... it is the return trip up the mountain that will get you! Blue Hole was worth seeing, but it would have been better if there wasn’t so much trash (including a tire) in the splash pool. It would have also been better if the area wasn’t experiencing one its worst droughts in years. The small trickle of water cascading over the ledge was not enough to allow the waterfall to live up to its full potential. I’ll return someday in the future when the area has had normal
rainfall. Perhaps then I’ll get a decent shot of a truly unique waterfall. After Blue Hole we made our way up to Shady Valley for a break at the Country Store. From there it was north again up to Backbone Rock, which is located just below Damascus, VA, on TN 133. Backbone Rock is the shortest tunnel you are ever likely to encounter in your motorcycling travels. It also makes for some great photos and you can climb to the top of it if you’re so inclined. The dense foliage limits your view of the surrounding countryside, but the views of the roadway below are worth the effort to make it to the top.We spent the vast majority of the day on the move. Before it was over, this ride took us from Pineola along a circuitous route that included: Elizabethton, TN; Shady Valley, TN; Damascus, VA; Watauga, VA; back to Shady Valley, TN; Mountain City, TN; Boone, NC; Vilas, NC; Foscoe, NC; Tyne Castle, NC; and, finally, back to Pineola. The reason we ended up in Shady Valley twice was because we looped west from Damascus to pickup US 421 just east of Bristol, TN. We rode the entire stretch of US 421 that is commonly referred to (in motorcycling circles, anyway) as “The Snake.” Let me tell you - that is one awesome, knuckle-whitening ride that you don’t want to miss. If you are ever in the High Country, you owe it to yourself to ride The Snake ... several times! In both directions! By Bill McDaniel Continued in Next Months Issue BORNTORIDE.COM | BTR 23

Biker Movie Review
Confusion and chaos pretty much sums up this movie. It is the modern day version of all the biker exploitation “B” movies ever made. Curiously, Larry Bishop (as Pistolero) appeared in a variety of films including The Savage Seven, Mad Dog Time and Kill Bill to name a few. His collaboration with Quentin Tarantino in this most recent effort, would lead one to believe that “Hell Ride” is a major cinematic production destined for the A list. Sadly, it falls short of that mark. The story revolves around Pistolero and his gang “the Victors.” The main characters are himself, the Gent and Comanche who set out to avenge the death of his ol lady Cherokee Kisum. Cherokee, it seems, was murdered by the 666er’s, a rival gang. But wait, let’s back up! This is exactly what makes the flick so confusing. … We flash back and forth from 35 years back to 35 years forward. It seems that Bishop as the writer, director, and star is the only one who understands what is going on at any given time. I was lost after viewing it twice, but again I digress. The film is soaked with girls, drugs, and murder. I like all those facets in a biker exploitation film, but the chaotic pace leaves one wondering where the plot is. It seems the Victors MC have an underlying code of deceit and distrust. As the movie rolls along, several of the members of gang are killed by the Gent and other Victors—leaving only Pistolero, the Gent, and Comanche in the gang. Ahhh, but there
is another member hiding in the desert! Eddie Zero, played by Dennis Hopper appears as a (possibly retired) member of the gang. How they were able to get Hopper to appear in this mess was a mystery in itself, and I was surprised, and entertained for a moment until I saw David Carradine playing rival gang member “The Duce.” Evidently, the Duce and Pistolero had some under-the-table dealings and this conflict led to the ongoing battle between the two clubs. The 666er’s use arrows and darts to carry out their hits while the Victors use the more conventional revolvers, available at Wal-Mart. The Victors trademark murders–you will see a few of these involve the tying of one to a chair, the cutting of the throat, and the soaking of the subject in gasoline, which is then ignited by the tossing of a Zippo lighter, also available at Wal-Mart. Somewhere in my recall, it seems to me that this ritual was borrowed from the 666er’s when they did in Cherokee Kisum. In the end, the Victors cut off the Duce’s head, and Eddie Zero delivers it to the 666er’s hangout in a nice wicker basket (see WalMart above). He departs and rides off down the road until his motor quits for some reason. He gets off his vintage ride to repair it, and sees the 666er’s pull up behind him. The leader of the 666er’s, (played by Vinnie Jones) shoots him in the back with a dart fired from an air powered device that looks like a Shark Gun. He collapses on the highway. Much to the 666er’s surprise the Victors pull up behind them and the Gent kills all of them, but only wounds Jones who falls to the pavement. Pistolero in a strange twist of role, shoots Jones with a small crossbow, then reloads and fires a dart into Jones’ gas tank. As the fuel surrounds Jones, who is bleeding cussing and etc, one of the Victors cuts his throat, and Pistolero tosses the classic Zippo into the pool of gas. In the next frame, Hopper gets up off the pavement, and removes his armor-laden jacket – arrow still intact- and hands it to his girl who gives him a similar jacket. They depart the scene, and the three meet in the desert where the 666er’s had previously buried some sort of lockbox containing some sort of (something).… There are three keys that have 666 stamped into them. There is a short argument, and Comanche digs up the lock box and the others give him the three keys. What’s in that thing you ask? You will never know, because the shot shows only Comanche’s face from the inside as he opens the box. I think it was empty, but what do I know? The trio then fire up their motors and ride off in three different directions as the credits roll. If you are a fan of naked ladies, cool classic motorcycles, and blood and guts, this film is for you! However, if you were expecting a plot, a story line, or a coherent slide show of pleasant desert scenes you aren’t gonna be too happy. Tarantino once told Bishop “It is your destiny to write, direct, and star in a movie.” Sometimes destiny is not all it’s cracked up to be! I would reluctantly give this film 2 out of 5 stars, because there were two REAL stars exploited in this mess. It is rated R for ridiculous, and runs approximately 86 minutes. In my opinion it should be 86’ed altogether.

ON THE SET Q & A WITH MOVIE DIRECTOR
THOMAS J CHURCHILL
THOMAS J CHURCHILL IS CREATING QUITE A BUZZ AS ONE OF THE HOTTEST RISING DIRECTORS IN THE MOVIE BUSINESS. WE CAUGHT UP WITH HIM FOR A BORN TO RIDE Q&A AND HERE IS WHAT HE HAD TO SAY. weird. Something strange used to happen when my father would cover my eyes on the nude scenes or even the graphic, intense blood scenes. Those scenes of horror would be magnified more to my ears than what was really happening on the screen. It used to scare the hell out of me! I guess that’s why I love horror and thrillers so much. They don’t just give you great stories with the visuals, but the sound is equally present with music and sound effects—a character unto itself. Look at Hitchcock’s Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window or Spielberg’s JAWS, Indiana Jones, ET, Close Encounters ... try watching all of those films with the sound muted. It won’t have the same effect.
Tell us a little about your history in film making? I guess I can go back to my childhood, it was the original Star Wars Episode IV. My father introduced me to the world of cinema some years prior to that film, but it was that movie that called to me. I wanted to be on the screen ... in that world. It was one of the first films that made me forget everything about the real world, and I was caught up in this space fantasy. From then, I had this acting bug that I needed to explore. My parents took me to acting showcases and I did school plays, but that never seemed to be enough until I had this crazy dream to create my own film and showcase my talents as an actor. I never did this before. In my neighborhood at this time in my life it was so unheard of. Technology wasn’t even present for this craft as it is today. It was just something in my gut that I needed to do. I convinced my father to buy me a fullsize VHS (popular at the time) camcorder
which of course I had to get a part-time job to pay him back with. I wrote a script. Drafted friends and family and shot my first film at 17 years old. The War Master was my first feature. I submitted it into a festival and won. Something magic happened in making that film, the process of filmmaking was more important to me than my acting was. I fell hard for this love. Funny, recently with the release of my current film Lazarus: Apocalypse, I had included that film on the same DVD.

As a child what influenced you to do what you do, and when did you know you were going to make movies? Hitchcock, Spielberg were my influences. My father pretty much introduced me to all sorts of films from action to horror. I used to get rewarded by going to the movies if I did well in school. I sat in the darkness and was sucked into that silver screen feeling the energy of each picture I watched. It was
Who are your top three movie producers and directors of all time? To me, directors would be Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, and Orson Wells; for producers, Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg, and Jerry Bruckheimer. One day, I hope to
be added to this list. When someone asks a film student or a random film fan that question—that would be amazing. Your top five movies of all time? That’s a tough question. I have categories. Action, would be Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Die Hard, Beverly Hills Cop, and Rocky/Rambo series. For Drama: The Godfather trilogy, Ghost, Citizen Cain, The Passion of the Christ, and Easy Rider. For Horror: Psycho, The Exorcist, Friday the 13th series, the Halloween series, and The Nightmare on Elm Street Series. How’s that for a top five.
2015 Check Point is a great film. Tell us what to look out for with this movie? “CHECK POINT” is a story about truth, justice, and the American way of life all told within a classic styled action/thriller. Port City, North Carolina: During a routine camp out, a local vagrant discovers plans for an invasion in America. When he tries to notify the local sheriff about his discovery, the sheriff dismisses his claims and has him locked up for loitering. When the sheriff notices odd interactions with other town’s folk, he begins to look into the vagrant’s claim of a sleeper cell living amongst the locals within this small town. After evidence of a beheading is exposed, others begin to fear the insurgents attack on hometown USA. Questions and tempers begin to rise. Why this little beach
community with its Norman Rockwell way of life? Why choose a town where everyone knows one another ... or so they thought. When the truth is blind and justice seems lost, it will take an army of five unlikely heroes banding together to infiltrate the insurgents and foil their invasion plans. War is hell and hell comes home at the Check Point. I believe it is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2016.
You hooked up with Born To Ride and Ron Galletti who has produced 1,050 TV episodes of BTR. What’s going on with this relationship and why? I was introduced to Ron Galletti by a mutual friend of ours, the talented and beautiful Krista Grotte. I had the privilege to have worked with her on my last three films, Lazarus: Apocalypse, The Emerging Past and the upcoming Check Point. Krista, who also worked with Ron as a host for his successful television series Born To Ride. We were at the 20th Anniversary celebration for Born To Ride, together promoting Check Point, when we all started to talk about something that is very important to all of us, motorcycles. Ron mentioned that he would love to see a certain style film project. He had asked would I ever do a Bike film. I glanced over at Krista, whom I just pitched a project to, and stated yes I can marry the two concepts that have been brewing inside my head. We then started speaking about the possibilities of the scope of this project. We all began to get really excited about it. I flew back home to Los Angeles and the entire trip my mind was racing. I started to put pen to pad and submitted my outline for a project for us all to be involved with. Nation’s Fire was born. Nation’s Fire, the word is getting out and you said it’s something you are very excited about. Why? Nation’s Fire is an action film. It’s a thriller AND it will be the definitive biker film. A film

that will touch on everything that important to bikers as well as people. It is planned to grab your heart strings and not let go until the last frame of the film. We are hoping to shoot this film this coming summer in and around the Tampa, Florida area with a 2017 release. I’m very excited about this project, very excited to work with Ron Galletti and the Born To Ride family as well as working with the very gifted, and talented Krista Grotte again who will star in this action/ suspense-thriller. What inspires you and what would you say to anyone who want to do what you do? People inspire me. My father inspired me. My mother ... and family and friends inspire me. The film business is a hard business. You need thick skin and a focused heart. Never let anyone derail you from your focus. Set that goal and stay with it. Make no mistake, there will be tough times ... many sacrifices ... many heartaches. If you want it or anything bad enough ... stay focused and it will come. If you build it, they will come. Great line from a great film Field of Dreams.
Your future and Last words? I hope I am around a long time in this business, continuing to do what I love to do—tell stories and entertain the world. One day this journey will end for me. If I can inspire and teach someone something of my journey it would be this ... Never give up. Never quit. Stay focused and be the best you can be in anything or whatever life path you choose. Stay humble. Stay real. Remember the path that got you to where you’re at. Remember the people who cheered for you. Stay true to you. Appreciate the things that come your way— the good and the bad. Women’s World REFLECTIONS & RESOLUTIONS
Congratulations to us all for making it to the year 2016. It is a brand new year full of exciting adventures and endless possibilities. Consider all that you had dreamt of and let go of. Consider how your life could be different had you made different choices in life. Now celebrate that you are here and alive, able to read this article because that means you can change things and live your life in extraordinary ways, starting today. It is not too late to reinvent yourself. If you are here on earth and breathing, you can start to reinvent your life beginning with your mind and attitude. If you choose to look at things in a doom and gloom manner then that is the bubble you will live in. Instead, bust that dark bubble and blow a new rainbow colored one that is big, bright, and beautiful. This past year, I had the opportunity to have met a wonderful soul who was an inspiration to many and lived life in his very own wonderful and unique way. He knew how to live in the rainbow color balloon in more ways then one. In the October 2015 issue, I wrote an article about him, his name was “CRZ-T” (Crazy T). He was a gentleman with a great personality and attitude towards life. As I sat to write this New Year’s Resolution article, I was saddened by the news that CRZ-T had passed away December 19, 2015. God bless him. May he rest in peace and rock his world in heaven. CRZ-T knew how to live. He was a man who stood out and sadly many people did not get to know him better, due to their own ignorance. When you see someone different than you don’t run and don’t judge. Instead, see it as your perfect opportunity to learn and grow. Don’t let these opportunities pass you by. I approached CRZ-T and got to know him better. He was smart, incredibly funny, and had an attitude we should all have. We were waiting for our doctors in our cancer treatment journey when we met. We talked and joked knowing this is the journey of life. Can’t dwell on things, instead we have to live and go with the flow so to speak. We are not what happens to us, we are not our past and we surely are not our disease; therefore, look at the
present and the future. CRZ-T knew how to be himself regardless of what others thought, and he knew how to live in the now. I will surely miss not seeing him at my doctor visits. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to meet him. I encourage everyone to learn to live life the EQ LifeStyle way and not wait any longer. Live free of all the useless nonsense. Clean out all the clutter and uselessness in your life to give room for you and your new exceptional life. So what will you do this year, starting today, with your one and only life? The year 2016 is your brand new year, make it extraordinary. Try brand new things you have never dared to do. So long as you are not hurting anyone don’t fear, don’t doubt yourself, and definitely don’t worry what other people say or think. All you motorcycle enthusiast how about that one dream ride that you have heard so much about? How about doing that ride and experiencing it first hand? Pick a place and go enjoy yourself. In 2015, I rode the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina. I put all of my 1001 excuses aside and just picked up and went with a group of friends. We tend to keep waiting and postponing things until such future events happen and that is a great way to NOT experience life. The experience on those mountain roads was indescribably spectacular and it is embedded in my memory for a lifetime. I also rode the 7-mile Bridge to Key West, with breathtaking views like no other. How about riding in Palm Beach along A1A? It is a picturesque journey just like right out of a movie or magazine. You can feel the ocean breeze, the sun, and the ocean aroma. Once you taste the world outside of your comfort zone you won’t ever want to go back. Life becomes more and more delicious every step of the way. I invite you to come check out our upcoming events (Born To Ride Women’s World: An EQ LifeStyle) at www.EQWS.org and/or www. borntoride.com. Join our mailing list so you don’t miss out. I’m looking forward to meeting you and making this journey called life tremble with love, joy, purpose and passion! Hayley B. Colina, Esq. www.EQWS.org

Right before the spring rally at Panama City Beach in late April, 2015, a new motorcycle dealership opened just down the road from the fairly new Harley-Davidson dealership. Indian Motorcycle of Panama City Beach now occupies the entire brand new strip mall building. I got the chance to talk to the owner, Derek Kelley, at the autumn rally and took a test ride on the Indian. Derek recently sold his Crystal River, Florida Harley-Davidson dealership. He still currently owns the Harley dealership in Ocala, but he also loves the challenge of overseeing a new (1901) reborn franchise backed by a multi- billion dollar corporation, Polaris.
Not only did he acquire the rights to sell Indian, the package also included Victory and the new Polaris “Slingshot.” He is ecstatic to have all three brands, as well as the Polaris E-Bicycles. The Slingshot is the Batmobile, a pure Hollywood type vehicle. All ages, all genders are fascinated by it and the owners love them. Derek has been riding since he was 8 years old. He grew up in the Florida Gulf Coast area and has always loved it. Now approaching middle age, he is now a two-up cruiser with his wife. As far as his favorite rides, he feels they are all subjective, but riding to Harley’s 100th Anniversary in Wisconsin, riding to Sturgis, riding from Ocala

Business owners (bars, etc.) were happier with this autumn rally than in the past from what he was told in various conversations. “The weather was awesome, and the vendors got to come from Daytona Biketoberfest to here. It was exciting and GREAT for our dealership.” You may have seen on television or in the movies electric motorcycles and wondered how to get your hands on one. The dealership is extending the offering of a free Polaris electric bicycle at no charge (no pun intended), with the purchase of the Victory Empulse TT until the end of January, 2016. Angels are Real
I had a yard sale this weekend. I put signs out on the main drag and the other streets to direct people in. Just before it got totally dark, I jumped into the old Dodge pickup to go retrieve the signs. I was at my 3rd stop (on RT 60 & Jerry Smith) when the truck ran out of gas. I’m standing in the turn lane realizing that I would have to walk back to the shop to get an empty gas can, and then walk back to the corner of Turkey Creek and 60 to get some fuel and then walk back to the truck. By this time it was dark. I swear to you, I could not believe what happens next. This isn’t Winslow Arizona – but a girl in a Ford Expedition rolls down her window at the stop sign and asks me “what’s wrong.” “I’m outta gas” I replied. So she says “Come on, I will give you a ride.” “Lemme see if I have my gas can.” After a short search, I realized that the can was not in my truck. Knowing that I had run out of luck, I just walked to the passenger side of this really nice truck and got in. Oh my God in heaven, I looked at her and she was absolutely beautiful!! Long blonde hair, perfectly dressed, hot body, and to top it all off she was within my wheel-house of maturity. I am really surprised that a woman of this stature and elegance would even stop and look at an old ‘scooter-trash’ looking dude like me much less actually wait around and piss people off at a busy intersection while I took the time to look for my gas can. But she did, and evidently she is very brave. After a short introduction and some small talk she asked me which gas station I wanted to go to – the RaceTrac or the Sunoco. So naturally I said, “RaceTrac.” She told me that after she picked up her friend on the other end of the road she would give me a ride back to the disabled hillbilly truck. She went out of her way to drop me off at the gas station, and I reminded her that she was truly an ‘Angel’ for giving me a ride. When I went inside the store, I searched for a gas can. Yeah, there was only one left. $12.99 plus tax which equals almost all I made in the last two days of the yard sale. But I was on a mission to get the truck back, knowing that the battery would be dead soon because I had left the parking lights on. Anyhow, when I get to the counter a girl that I’ve seen in my frequent visits to the store (which is also very cute and extremely nice) is wondering why I am buying a gas can. I asked “Do y’all rent these?” to which she replied – “No, they aren’t for rent.” But she would go check her car to see if she had one that I could borrow. This was yet another effort by someone to help me with a problem, with no expectation of recompense. She
returned and apologized, which was not necessary and I paid for the can and headed to the gas pumps after telling her the story of the beautiful angel that had given me a ride. “I saw her drop you off and I thought maybe she was your girlfriend or wife.” “I wish” is all I could say, and we both laughed. I get a few dollars worth of gas and started hoofing it back down 60 toward the truck. A fellow in a pickup truck stops and says “Man, I heard the story about you running out of gas, and I actually saw that hot girl that dropped you off, so if you want me to, I will drive you back to your truck – just in case she doesn’t come back to get you.” I accepted the ride and the man even offered to hang for a minute just to make sure that I could get it started. I thanked him profusely and told him that I was very appreciative. We conversed about the ‘paying it forward’ thing just like the beautiful girl that brought me there did, and of course, I also told him that he was also an angel unaware. I poured the gas in the tank leaving just a little to dump into the carburetor for good measure. After grinding the battery to the point of death, she finally fired up and as usual the old worn out hillbilly Dodge didn’t let me down. It’s been a very long road with me and that truck. I picked up my signs and went home. This isn’t a fabrication or fantasy by any stretch of the imagination. This is a TRUE story that you should ALL take heed to. I don’t care if you believe in God or whatever deity it is that you worship. It’s none of my business. I can tell you this; there are good angels walking this earth, paying it forward every day that they live and breathe. Personally, I try to help people whenever I can, and I am not prophesizing or preaching here so don’t get the wrong idea. But do yourself one favor – help people if you can. Your reward may not come immediately, so have faith and push on. In the end, it doesn’t really matter, but you only take with you what you have put in. Here’s the kicker. That beautiful woman did come back to look for me, she slowed down, got into the turn lane and after seeing me pouring gas into the tank she just blew the horn and drove away. It is what it is, but I believe that you should take every opportunity that presents itself to you. Perhaps I should have been more patient and had a little more faith in humanity, but alas I did not. Sometimes it is hard to make the right decision based upon faith alone, but I did accomplish the mission and made it back home intact. My agent called to get me booked for some gigs coming up in the near future. I told her this story. She may not be impressed, but she questioned me about why I didn’t get this girl’s phone number. I should have. I learn something every day and my faith in people has been restored to a great extent. Angels are everywhere regardless of your religion. … Everything happens for a reason I suppose. But if anyone knows who this beautiful angel is, then let her know that she has a fan that would love to repay her in so many ways. Later that evening. … The woman somehow tracked me down. I was in my shop, working on an old computer when I saw a truck pull in. It was her! I went over to the window and she, in a sweet as sugar voice asked me if I would mind checking on what the strange ticking sound in the motor was. I of course obliged and after she opened the hood, I began examining the motor. The truck was so tall that I had to sort of get up on the front tire and lean under the hood. I had only been under there for about 20 seconds when something moving behind me startled me and I glanced over to see her standing behind me. All of a sudden, she began pulling on my leg, just like I’m pulling yours! CRAVEN

All Things can Become New
The other day my mind traveled back to when I first started riding. As I looked at my Ultra, I was reminded just how far bikes have come and how incredibly sophisticated the newer rides are. Used to be that you could buy a $10 manual and it had all the info needed to rebuild a bike. My memory recalls that there were a lot of custom bikes on the road back then, but the amount of
BTR 44 | BORNTORIDE.COM
detail and accessories were nowhere near as comprehensive then as they are now. Yes, you could get custom triple trees, 21” Avons, and hardtails were considered the norm. We didn’t have machines that use Waterjet baggers that look like they would scrape just from being put on a kickstand! While the bike shows used to be cool, the current customs are simply mind blowing! For those who ride primarily stock, there are CDs, GPS, and anti-lock brakes. The weather today reminds me that you can get heated seats and grips, to keep it toasty going down the road. The paint found on tins is awesome, and some bikes even sport rear tires big enough to be used on a cage, if needed. All of these new things just go to show how things can change over time. The other truth these changes show is how old things become new, and radically different. In the Bible, it reads in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Just like the bikes we love to ride, our very lives can change to go in a new direction. When we trust in Jesus, the
Holy Spirit moves into our hearts and radically transforms us with the love and the joy and the peace He gives us. When Jesus forgives us he sets us free from the things that we have done that have held us back in the past. Just like the newer custom bikes are incredible works of art, so too are our lives; as our hope, our joy, and even our fears are transformed because of Jesus’ love and forgiveness. Let me challenge you with a thought; the New Year is full of hope and opportunity, as well as the chance to shape our lives to form a clean beginning. Forgetting the past, Jesus’ love will wash away your transgressions if you ask Him to. Your life can be a clean whiteboard, your future is clean and clear before you. What gets written on that whiteboard this coming year is entirely up to you. If you’re looking for a new beginning, looking forward and not back over your shoulder, why not become that new creation in Christ. Just as the verse promises, all things can become new! All it takes is putting your faith in Jesus, He’ll do the rest! In The Wind, Denny Dingler
