About Gagliardi The Gagliardi brand is built around the story of one man and his experiences - his ambitions and his dreams, his inate sense of good taste and his zest for life. Drafted into the British army as little more than a boy to fight the second World War, when peace returned, the poverty in the small Mediterranean Island of his birth forced Salvatore Borg to leave its shores to seek his fortune. He joined the Merchant Navy, travelled the world, prospered and soon acquired a taste for the finer things in life. He spent many years in Italy where he enjoyed good food, fine wines, music and art, but above all else, he enjoyed wearing beautifully-tailored garments made from the finest Italian wools, linens and cottons. Whilst in Italy, he also acquired a nickname and became known to his many friends as “Il Gagliardo.
Returning to his native Malta in the early sixties, Salvatore decided to go into business setting up his own tailoring workshop in a small garage close to his home town. Initially, he sold his products locally but before long he began exporting too. In 1964, the Gagliardi brand was born, encapsulating the spirit of its creator. Salvatore wanted his tailoring to follow the softer, elegant lines of the clothes he and his friends had worn during his years in Italy, but at the same time he also loved the more formal British look that he had seen on Savile Row during his frequent trips to London. He wanted Gagliardi tailoring to be a fusion of the two influences but with its own distinct identity and the brand itself to be not only an expression of his personal tastes, but also a means of telling the story of the brave little island of his birth which he loved so dearly.
Salvatore continued to travel to Italy frequently, and over the years he managed to build partnerships with some of the most important fabric mills from the famous district of Biella, close to the beautiful Lake Como, which supplied him with his raw materials. As his customer base grew along the years, the workshop in Malta gradually became a factory employing hundreds of seamstresses, and one of the Island’s leading exporters. Salvatore worked hard, married and had a family, but he also continued to cultivate his mind. He read extensively about the rich history of his island home, and about Mediterranean culture and its exquisite tastes and fineries. In the fullness of time, the first Gagliardi store was born, and Salvatore made sure that not only did it offer the finest quality tailoring, but that the whole Gagliardi concept would tell his story, and that of his
island, to the world. That story permeates not only the furnishings inside his evergrowing number of stores, but also the features in his garments. The brand Salvatore created is a celebration of his life and of his dreams, which the second and third generations of his family proudly continue to build upon today.

PRESS RELEASE
Made to Measure Press Release There’s nothing quite like wearing a garment that has been made especially for you. It is with this in mind that Gagliardi has launched its luxury Made to Measure service. Our master tailors will work with clients individually to create a garment that is truly unique to their specifications. “The Bortex Group’s roots are cemented in garment manufacturing and this particular product offering is something that we have wanted to introduce for a long time,“ says company CEO Peter Borg. “Now, after a long development process, we are pleased to be able to bring our clients a vast range of custom-made options, so that they can walk away with something that is unique, artisanally-crafted and which fits perfectly.” Gagliardi’s Made-to-Measure clients will be able to book an appointment with one of our tailoring specialists, who will guide you through the process. If you cannot make it to one of our stores, we are more than happy to come to you to carry out your consultation at your home or office both during as well as after working hours. “We have taken the whole experience into consideration to ensure our clients enjoy the process secure in the knowledge that the final result will be exactly what they want,” continues Sam Borg, Peter’s son. “From the very first meeting through to the first fitting and finally the presentation of the completed garment, our master tailor will offer advice to ensure that at the end of the process, we present you with a garment in exactly the type of cloth that suits your requirements and fitting like a glove – and at a price to suit too.’
GAGLIARDI
What to expect: 1. A consultation with our tailor to discuss styling options, fabric selection and choices of linings, buttons, monogramming. Detailed measurements are also taken to enable an individual pattern to be cut. 2. During the first fitting some weeks later you will be fitted with the partially sewn garment to ensure you get an impeccable fit. 3. A few weeks later, your exquisitely tailored garment is ready to be worn and enjoyed.

FUNCTIONAL DESIGN
Functional Design Our tailor will ask questions with regard to the intended use of the garment in order to ensure that he helps you select the fabric and styling options that are best suited to your requirements.

Step 1: Fabric Super Wool When you see suit tags that say Super 100s or Super 150s, that number represents the amount of times the worsted wool has been twisted. Generally, the higher that number, the finer and lighter the cloth will be. The higher Super count will also mean that it has a smoother texture and will appear more luxurious.
Wool Most popular for its versatility and refined aesthetic. It breathes well, and can be worn in both slightly hot and cooler temperatures.
CONSULTATION: FABRICS
Cotton Popular as it breathes very well and is soft. Great for all body types and all year round. The fibre is so versatile that it can be woven or knitted into a variety of different fabrics, like corduroy, chambray, lace and velour. So no matter what the occasion, cotton is the optimum choice.
Linen Linen is highly breathable - much more so than cotton thanks to its comparatively-lower thread counts. Linen also has a very high moisture absorbency rate, making it the ideal fabric for hot and humid climates.

Lining The lining in your jacket adds structure and weight to your suit. A fully-lined suit jacket is somewhat heavier, and has a thicker look to it. As a result, the suit jacket sits nicely over the contours of the body. As opposed to half-lined or unlined suit jackets, a linejacket will not crinkle or catch on your shirt as easily.
CUSTOMIZATION
Personalized Embroidery Monogramming and initials allow you to give your garment with that special personalised touch.

Measurment A wide variety of measurements and figuration details from your body are taken. Back at the workshop the master pattern cutter uses these details to create your own individual pattern.
FIRST FITTING
Crafting Your Suit Next, our experienced master tailors cut your chosen cloth by hand. They use traditional sewing techniques to make your garment the old fashioned way.

The First Fitting Absolute perfection requires trialing. During this second appointment, you will try your garment on in its half-finished state (aka Baste) to determine if any slight tweaks are required.

Care
Steam or press your garment to clean it effectively using heat and steam (aka, “refresher), but never direct contact with an iron. Dry clean garments only when they are physically dirty from spills or sweating. Dry cleaning is a chemical wash that damages fabric. Always hang your garment on the quality hanger it comes with and keep it in an airy place, preferably in the suit cover which we also provide.
CARE- AFTERSALES
After sales We like to check in and make sure your purchase lives up to your expectations. We provide maintenance and repairs on our suits should any be required – from replacing a button, to repairing a seam. or making any other minor repairs that may become necessary. We can also alter your suit - both the trousers and jacket - up or down one size if your weight fluctuates.
