Baseball

The Eags came into the 2014-2015 season looking for a fresh start. It was their inaugural season playing in the North Atlantic-North Conference within Division 1 of the NCBA. The Eags had to reload after losing a number of seniors to graduation last year, adding 11 new players to the roster, as well as bringing back alum Paul Andrews as head coach. The team started the fall season with some unfortunate setbacks. The opening double header against Northeastern was cut short due to a sprinkler malfunction that flooded the field only 5 innings into the first game. The result of the first game stood, with BC losing 7-1. The misfortune did not stop there though, as weather conditions cancelled a double header against Sacred Heart University over Columbus Day Weekend. The Eags finally got to play a series against cross-town conference rival Boston University for the final series of the fall season. The team dropped game one 7-1, but followed up with a 4-2 win in game two. The Eags fought hard in the final game of the series, but some late inning runs cost BC the game, losing 4-1. The team ended the fall season with a 1-4 record overall, 1-2 in conference play. While it was not the best start, the team looks to learn from their mistakes and bounce back in the spring. They will be playing an 18 game schedule, kicking it off on March 14 against Drexel University.

Sophomore Alex Gulati hit his first HR of the season, which is the first Eagles home run since becoming an official club sport and moving to the NCBA. 1

Men’s Crew

After one of the most successful spring seasons in recent team history, Boston College Men’s Crew carried this momentum into the fall 2014 season. The team capped off last spring by bringing home the New England Championship Team Points Trophy for the first time since 1997 and capturing their best finish at the ACRA Championships in Gainesville, Georgia. The team returned to campus this fall with the largest squad in recent history, fielding three Varsity Eights and recruiting three Novice Eights as well. Being fortunate enough to receive two entries in the Men’s Collegiate Eight at the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta, BC Men’s Crew had the opportunity to prove the strength and depth of the program. At this historic regatta, the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ placed 8th and 25th respectively in a field of 44 collegiate boats from across the country, the best finish to date. Following the HOCR, both the Varsity and Novice Crews ventured to the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, New York. The team highlighted their depth at this fall regatta as all three Varsity Eights swept their respective events, each capturing gold and receiving one of the regatta’s coveted fish head trophies. The Novices showed promising results at the Fish, the Dartmouth Green Monster, and the Tail of the Charles. The team is looking forward to building upon their success this upcoming spring by defending their title at the New England Championships and capturing new ones at the ACRA Championships.

Equestrian Equestrian had an incredible fall horse show season, taking home some competitive wins at BU and Tufts with champion rides from several team members across divisions. The season began at Brandeis, where the team finished 5th overall within a field of 11 teams in the region. During the October 25th-26th weekend at BU and Tufts, BCET took home the high point team ribbon at both competitions. Riders in all divisions, from beginner to advanced, earned winning or reserve (2nd or 3rd) ribbons. This allowed the team to achieve the first place point standing against the other teams. Sophomore Kjirsten Ree, who made her show debut this season, took the blue ribbon in her Walk Trot class at BU. Kjirsten’s ride was a critical win that pushed BCET into first place overall. At Tufts, the team managed to put in competitive rides all day and once again earned the high point team ribbon. BC’s double sweep of high point team was the first in program history! The team put in long hours at the snowy and below freezing show hosted by Mt. Ida, where several team members had top ribbons. Senior Captain Kate Stento won her Open Fences class and was second in her Open Flat class, putting her in the finals for High Point Rider. The season ended with the team’s home show, where they hosted the other teams in their region. Every member of the team stepped up to help set up the show, care for horses throughout the day, and cheer for everyone showing! Senior Kate Stento won Open Flat, senior Liz Doherty won Intermediate Fences and junior Emma Dawley won Open Fences. The team looks forward to finishing their season in March. Special congratulations to Elise Bailey, Liz Doherty, and Sarah Loughlin who have all already qualified for the Regional Finals in the spring! 3

Field Hockey

The Boston College Club Field Hockey Team’s Fall 2014 season was an exciting one! The team not only added eight new freshmen to the team, which included one new goalie, but they also welcomed new coach Megan Bozek, a former UNH varsity player. The team recorded major triumphs this season, most notably their three-game win over Columbus Day weekend at the UMASS Tournament. The team ended the day with the best record of all teams who participated, with a 3-1 win against the University of Vermont, a 1-0 win against the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a 1-0 win against the University of Connecticut. In addition, the team qualified for the National Field Hockey League tournament for the third year in a row as the 13th seed. Although they did not make it out of the group stages, ending the day with a 6-0 win against West Chester, a 0-1 loss against Radford, a 0-1 loss against University of Delaware and a 0-2 loss against reigning champions Penn State, they gained great playing experience against the hardest pool of competitors to date. The team ended the season with a 7-5 record and hopes to improve on that next year. They will resume scrimmage play during the spring. 4

The Boston College Club Golf Team continued its dominance within the New England Region of the National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA) this Fall. In their first regional tournament at Maplegate Country Club (October 4th-5th), the Boston College A-team won by a convincing 51 shots over the Boston College B-Team, and 102 strokes over the third place team, Babson College. Conor McCormack finished as the medalist with scores of 72 and 76. The second regional tournament followed a similar trend, where the Eagles won by a substantial 47 strokes at Shining Rock Golf Club (October 25th-26th). Stephen Pfeffer finished as the medalist with scores of 79 and 73. This was an important landmark for the Boston College Club Golf team, for the victory made the Eagles the first team in NCCGA history to have the top 8 individual finishers swept by one team in both regional tournaments. The victory also officially qualified Boston College for the NCCGA National Championship at the prestigious Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Mississippi on November 14th-16th. After two days of competition, the Eagles placed 5th amongst 28 teams This resulted in a ranking of 14th in the country after the fall season, which is a team best. It was yet another extremely successful season for the Eagles, but their sights are already set on winning the spring National Championship. 5

Men’s Rugby Match Results 9/13 @ UMass Won 36 - 7 9/21 UConn Won 39 - 11 The Men’s Rugby Team started off their fall season with a strong win against conference rivals UMass 36-7. The next two games the boys posted two more convincing wins over both UConn and SUNY Albany, putting the team 3-0 heading into a tough end of season stretch. After losses to conference champions AIC, and Middlebury, the boys bounced back strong to close the regular season with a resounding 48-7 victory over cross-town rivals Northeastern. Finishing the fall season with a 4-2 record was good enough for second place in the East Coast Rugby Conference (ECRC) and a bid to the American Collegiate Rugby Championship Bowl Series in Charlotte, North Carolina. In the opening match of the Bowl Series the boys beat Iona College by a score of 29-19. AIC and UMass – the other two ECRC teams invited to the bowl series – also posted wins on the weekend, helping to improve the national reputation of the ECRC. The boys traveled back to Boston with some hardware from the weekend and earned a ranking of 31st in the nation among all collegiate rugby teams.

Women’s Rugby

As a member of ACRA’s Northeast division, BCWRFC sought to remain competitive in a league that includes both varsity and historically solid club programs. BCWRFC opened the season with strong victories against UMass Amherst, 22-5, and URI, 26-5. In the first home game of the season, BC hosted Comm Ave rival BU in Alumni Stadium. Despite a strong first half, they ended up losing 50-22. Taking a break from conference play, BCWRFC played American International College in a rainy game on the Brighton campus. Despite the 35-0 loss, it was a great performance against AIC, which is a varsity program. The team came back strong from these two losses and won 33-26 in a close match against Northeastern University. At the final home game of the season against UConn, the team honored the nine graduating Seniors: Brittany Burke, Isabel Guillen, Kaitlyn Hamiester, Rachel Harrison, Emma McGowan, Kyra Ortiz, Eleanor Sciannella, Traea Vaillancourt, and Erica Wilson. The game against UConn resulted in a 47-5 loss that officially brought the regular season to an end. After a six game regular season, BCWRFC finished with a record of 3-3 (3-2 conference record) and a third seed in the conference. As a result, BCWRFC participated in a post-season tournament and earned another chance at beating rival BU. Unfortunately, BC fell to BU 39-27. BCWRFC had a great year (Spring 2014, Fall 2014) under the leadership of Captains Kaitlyn Hameister (‘15) and Traea Vaillancourt (‘15). They will be succeeded by Jenna Hernandez (‘16) and Jessica Pfost (‘17) for the upcoming year and look forward to another great year of rugby.

Men’s Soccer

The Boston College Men’s Club Soccer Team had a successful 2014 campaign. They were a squad besieged by injuries during the regular season that was not fully healthy until the end of the year. The highlight win of the regular season came against a strong Harvard side on a Wednesday night in Cambridge when BC scored a goal seconds after Harvard had tied the game up late, breaking some Crimson hearts. That win gave them some momentum heading into regionals where they earned the six seed for all of region one. At Regionals, BCFC hit their stride. They opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Towson. They followed that up with a 2-2 draw against Navy as a last gasp goal by Xavier Orellana gave BC a share of the points. Needing a win in their final game of group play BCFC did so with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Cornell. It was the first time in the last 4 years that BCFC advanced from their group. Their Regionals ride came to an end with a 2-0 semifinal loss to Delaware A scheduling quirk gave BC only 7 minutes after their game against Cornell to play Delaware, and their tired legs could not hold off the eventual champions, who scored two goals in the last 20 minutes. The season was not over yet for BC though. They got to travel to Memphis to compete in the Open Division of the NIRSA National Tournament. An opening day 1-0 loss to Oregon would be too much to overcome though. After smashing UC Colorado Springs 4-1, BC needed to beat a strong Arkansas side to advance out of their group. The Eagles outshot the Razorbacks 15-1 but could only put one past the Razorback keeper, and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Final Record 10-5-5

Men’s Ultimate This fall season for Men’s Club Ultimate was one of the most successful in recent memory. The team attended 3 tournaments, winning two of them and finishing with an overall record of 12-3. Tryouts for the A-team were held towards the end of September, and with a number of key players graduating last year, they had the opportunity to take a lot of fresh talent. The final squad of 25 players has exciting potential in its 6 rookies, but also experience and leadership within its 10 seniors. The first tournament of the season was at Stonehill College. This tournament provided the newly formed team their first opportunity to test the new additions to the roster. Going 6-0, and only being truly challenged in the finals, BC took the championship. The next tournament was a round robin, hosted by the team on the Brighton Campus. Once again, BC ended the day undefeated, beating BU, Brown, and Northeastern. The final, and most important tournament of the season was hosted by Brown University and took place in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. BC started the 2-day tournament off with very close losses against Tufts and Cornell, both of which are perennial national contenders. The team bounced back with an easy win against Brown-B, leading to a bracket matchup against Dartmouth the following morning. Though the game was close throughout, a few key mistakes near the end gave Dartmouth the one point victory. BC then played Bentley and Vermont, notching quality wins in each case. The team’s fall performance has certainly left them with high hopes for the spring season. New England is primed to be the most deeply competitive region in the country this year, so the team is excited and ready to compete and excel at the highest level. 9

Women’s Ultimate

Women’s ultimate had an incredible fall season. They approached every practice, scrimmage, and tournament with a sense of determination and competitiveness that has shown other teams that they are serious about aiming for Nationals. Recruitment over the summer and early fall was extremely successful, and this year all the members of the team have showed an increased commitment to the sport of ultimate. Fall season is typically the training season, as most people do not have any experience with playing ultimate prior to starting college. This fall, the team played in tournaments hosted by MIT, Brown, and UNH. While they did not come out as strong as they had hoped at MIT, it was the first tournament and the rookies learned a lot and showed great promise. As the season went on, the team showed incredible improvement. At Huck-a-Hunk at Brown University, the Eagles finished second within a field of sixteen teams, which was a phenomenal finish after being seeded seventh. At UNH, the team once again proved how strong they are, battling the snow and sleet, and ultimately winning the entire tournament. The Eagles have demonstrated their immense potential as a team and are extremely excited to see what the spring season has in store for them. 10
