About The Untitled Ain Gordon Project Writer and director Ain Gordon workshops a new play inspired by overlooked memories from the first five years of the AIDS crisis during the 80’s in Philadelphia. Capping an eighteen month research process, the play imagines three figures: a nurse, a single man, and a chorister.

Ain Gordon is a three-time Obie Award-winning writer/director/actor, two-time NYFA recipient and a Guggenheim Fellow in Playwriting. Gordon’s work focuses on marginalized or forgotten histories and the invisible players inhabiting that space. Recent projects include: “Radicals In Miniature” a series of requiems to personal icons who never achieved public immortality, premiered 2017 at Baryshnikov Arts Center (NY) and Vermont Performance Lab and toured in 2018/19 to International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Quick Center, Connecticut College (all CT), Williams College and The Yard (both MA); “217 Boxes Of Dr. Henry Anonymous” culminating a two-year residency at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania focused on Dr. Fryer who, in 1972, disguised as Dr. Anonymous opposed the American Psychiatric Association’s classification of homosexuality as a disease, premiered 2016 at the Painted Bride (PA) plus 2018 performances at the Baryshnikov Arts Center (NY) and 2019 productions at Transylvania University (KY) and the Center For The Art of Performance UCLA (CA); and “Not What Happened” a contrapuntal duet for two people that never meet - the historical re-enactor and the woman she portrays, premiered 2013 at BAM Next Wave Festival (NY), and toured to Krannert Center (IL),Vermont Performance Lab & the Flynn Center (both VT), etc. Gordon is a former Core Writer of the Playwright’s Center (MN), has twice held the post of Visiting Artist at the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage (PA), was a 2014 Artist-In-Residence at NYU Tisch School of The Arts, Resident Artist at The Hermitage (FL), and a 2020 Pabst Endowed Writer-In-Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Gordon has been Co-Director of the Pick Up Performance Co. since 1992.
