The WERC Center in Queens is dedicated to industrial innovation and creating a waterfront attraction for the arts and year-round green spaces. It features a semi-enclosed winter garden, educational agricultural areas, and a performance hall extending over the East River, promoting public accessibility and sustainability alongside a natural riverbank and park integration.

In this project, the Waste to Energy (WTE) facilities are integrated with theaters and gardens, creating a unique space where the urban waterfront landscape flows into the building. This design allows the interior to also serve as an outdoor landscape feature. In New York City, where temperatures can be quite cold in winter, the building leverages energy generated from waste not only to provide electricity to the city but also to supply the necessary greenhouse environment for plants within the building with minimal energy loss.

Achieving an eco-friendly building status, especially in large-scale architectural designs, involves addressing the challenge of energyintensive temperature control. Implementing localized climate control in targeted areas within the structure is a more energy-efficient and sustainable approach, reducing overall energy consumption and fostering environmental responsibility. This strategy not only conserves energy but also tailors comfort levels to specific needs and uses within the building, making it a smarter, greener choice.

United Housing
Chinese Affordable housing
In China, government housing projects aimed at specific resident groups often face the challenge of being located far from city centres, impacting access to jobs and transport. To address this, a new approach in Chong Qing introduces comprehensive residential communities. These are not only aligned with the affordability and target demographic of government projects but are also strategically placed closer to urban hubs. This development enhances job opportunities and transportation accessibility, offering a holistic solution that combines the benefits of government housing with improved urban integration and mobility for residents, fostering a more inclusive and economically vibrant community.

The prevailing belief that technology would increase leisure time is contradicted by research showing people today work more, sleep less, and have fewer activities than five years ago. Motus Station suggests a future where AI frees us from mundane tasks, allowing more time for enriching activities. This building explores the AI revolution's societal impacts, envisioning communities with ample leisure for creativity and exploration. It aims to foster human connections and interdisciplinary learning, focusing on design, architecture, climate technology, and AI applications, to shape a future where leisure enhances life's quality and fosters meaningful interactions.

Storms, earthquakes, fires, and volcanic eruptions reveal the vulnerability of buildings, including galleries and libraries which are not just spaces but artworks themselves. These architectural marvels, embodying cultural and artistic value, demand careful protection and thoughtful exhibition. Recognizing them as integral to our heritage ensures that future generations can appreciate the seamless blend of functionality and creativity, safeguarding our rich cultural legacy.

RE: Junior Architect/ Designer
To Whom It May Concern,
As an Architectural Graduate about to graduate from Pratt Institute, with over four years of architectural and interior design experience spanning residential, office, retail, public buildings, and hotel designs, I have played key roles in renowned design firms and projects including CTA Architects P.C., VALODE & PISTRE Architectes, and Beijing Rong Ding Investment Management Co., Ltd. I believe my background, skills, and passion make me an ideal candidate to join and contribute to its innovative projects.
During my tenure as an Architectural Designer Intern at CTA Architects P.C., I actively participated in a NYCHA affordable residential project from the Schematic Design phase to the construction design stage. This experience not only honed my ability to ensure projects comply with ADA and life safety regulations but also enhanced my hands-on experience in site explorations and coordinating OAC meetings.
My role at VALODE & PISTRE Architectes involved interior design work for office, retail, and public buildings. I progressed to overseeing aspects of project management and client reporting, demonstrating strong execution and teamwork skills. Working alongside senior interior designers and assisting registered architects in optimizing curved glass facades and curved columns showcased my deep understanding of design details and innovative capabilities.
Furthermore, my tenure as Assistant Project Manager at Beijing Rong Ding Investment Management Co., Ltd., allowed me to accumulate valuable experience in team leadership and project management. I successfully led the development of office areas within a large cultural park, transforming abandoned factories into innovative co-working spaces, displaying my leadership and efficient execution skills from concept through development phases.
I am keen to apply my skills and experience to the diverse and forward-thinking projects at your firms, and I am confident that I can make a significant contribution to the company’s innovative design philosophy and project execution. The prospect of joining such an influential and revolutionary design team excites me, and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can bring value to your firms.
Thank you for considering my application. I am looking forward to the opportunity to further discuss my background and how I can contribute to your firms.
Sincerely,
Bowen Tang
