Night Sky, October 14th 1066’. This painting, shows what William and Harold and everyone else would have seen if they’d gazed up into the sky around then. I’d better avoid tasteless jokes on the lines that Harold must have looked up or he wouldn’t have got an arrow in his eye -it’s a long time ago and it isn’t even certain he did. This painting has borders inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry. You can see Halley’s Comet in the top left-hand corner.

NOTES ON "STILLED LIFE - 2018" I have long considered the fundamental elements of the natural world the earth, the air - to be found in the development of ceramic pottery. History of this art clearly shows the fusion of clay with water, bound by fire, nuanced often by air. My early training was in pottery, working alongside Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada for a year. An eventual return to painting in oil led me, in the past five years, to an intense study of the technique and the philosophy of the Flemish 17th Century, it's roots, however, in Caravaggio's vision. The paintings of this series, "Stilled Life - 2018" attempts to reflect both of these interests. I have been encouraged by the recognition recently given to the movement of "Abstract Realism", evidenced in these canvasses by the exclusion of all but the object to be examined. In this instance, it is the classic and beautiful pottery of the contemporary English potter, Peter Sparrey.
