Adaptive String Length Technology
Here’s to maximizing performance automatically!
EDGE String is THE only string machine made to effortlessly operate utilizing two different string lengths—a longer USBC-Approved length for certified competition and a shorter length optimized for casual play. Exclusive Adaptive String Length Technology, powered by Conqueror X, automatically moves between string lengths based on the type of play.
Why is this important? Host certified competition in USBC-Approved mode for authentic pin action and scoring in-line with free-fall. Or, automatically shorten the strings for an amazing recreational bowling experience. Now you can do both while simultaneously maximizing your frames-per-stop performance.

MUSIC MATTERS
Live music, whether from a band or a DJ, is more important than you think. While everyone loves a good tune, recent stats show that Millennials, in particular, find it essential. Good music makes experiences memorable, and 70% of Millennials say they'd return to a place that features live music. Plus, bar and restaurant owners report that music can boost check averages by 5%-10% due to increased dwell time.
So, how are other venues embracing music? This month, we spotlight Bogart's Entertainment Center in Apple Valley, Minnesota. These innovative operators are redefining the bowling experience with their Bowl N' Beats program. A live DJ performs right above the lanes every Saturday night, transforming a traditional night out into something magical. Chris Loth, the proprietor, shares how adding music has positively impacted his center.
Seasonal events are also crucial for business, and planning is key. Last month, we explored how holiday preview events boost company party bookings. In this issue, Brandon Willey shares tips on leveraging seasonal and lesser-known holidays for success. Willey shares information about menus, decorations, and creative approaches to maximizing the calendar to attract more guests and revenue. Also this month, we have a fresh take on "Booze and Bites” highlighting a trendy food item using ingredients you probably already have on hand. IBI takes a
spin on ways to incorporate bowls at the bowl, including a few easy recipes as inspiration.

Seasonal and Holiday
Competitive Strategies STRATEGIES
The holiday season is a golden opportunity for bowling entertainment centers to draw in crowds, create memorable experiences, and boost revenue. By leveraging the excitement surrounding the fall and winter holidays, centers can offer unique attractions and activities that keep families coming back for more. Here at LBX Collective, we polled some of our regular listeners and community members, and they came back with the following ideas to plan and execute successful seasonal events that will create cherished memories and ensure your center stands out during the holiday seasons, encouraging guests to return year after year.
IMMERSE YOUR GUESTS
One of the most effective ways to enchant families and ensure that your center becomes a must-visit destination during the holiday season is to transform it with immersive environments and decorations that capture the essence of the fall and winter holidays. For a haunting Halloween, transform your entertainment center into a spooky haunted atmosphere that offers thrilling experiences for guests of all ages. Use eerie lighting, fog machines, and sound effects to create a chilling environment. Add themed props like cobwebs, skeletons, and pumpkins to enhance the spooky feel. If your center caters to a younger audience, you can take a lighter approach with decorations like silly scarecrows or friendly ghosts. For the winter holidays, turn your center into a magical winter wonderland. Decorate with twinkling lights, artificial snow, and ornaments that invoke the seasonal spirit. Set up a Santa's grotto where children can meet Santa Claus and take photos or build a little elf village that your younger guests can explore. The goal is to create a warm and festive environment that encourages visitors to feel the joy and wonder of the holiday season and gives them a reason to return. Creating these immersive environments, however, requires careful planning and execution.

Competitive Strategies
ENHANCE YOUR MENU
Themed food and beverage offerings are crucial to filling your guests with the holiday spirit. They should complement the seasonal atmosphere you've created and provide a sensory experience that evokes nostalgia, excitement, and a feeling of celebration. When your guests see and taste your seasonal specialties, it will enhance their overall experience, making their visit more memorable.
Fall Delights
• Spooky Snacks: Satiate the sugar high with fall treats like jack-o-lantern caramel apples, pumpkin spice donuts, and ghost-shaped cookies.
• Themed Drinks: Offer concoctions like Cauldron Brew (a green punch that can have an alcoholic option), pumpkin spice lattes, and hot apple cider.
Winter Joy
• Festive Treats: Delight guests with gingerbread cookies, peppermint bark, and cupcakes or brownies decorated with snowflakes or snowmen.
• Seasonal Beverages: Warm up visitors with hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, eggnog, and mulled wine for the adults.
Consider partnering with local vendors to add a unique touch to your seasonal offerings. This supports the community and brings unique flavors to your existing menu.
Find Local Talent
• Research: Look for local bakeries, cafes, and specialty food vendors that offer high-quality, budget-conscious seasonal items.
• Networking: Attend local food fairs and farmers' markets to discover potential partners and build long-term relationships. Start small and get to know them and their operations.
Collaborate on Menus
• Custom Creations: Work with local vendors to create exclusive event items. This can include custom-decorated snacks and signature drinks that aren't available elsewhere.
• Co-Branding: Highlight the partnership in your marketing materials to draw in both your regular customers and fans of the local vendor.
Promote Local Offerings
• Marketing: Use social media platforms and in-center signage to promote your menu's unique, locally sourced items.
• Events: Host tasting events or meet-and-greets with local vendors to engage your guests and create a buzz around the new seasonal offerings.
CREATE CRAFTY WORKSHOPS
Interactive workshops add enriching and enjoyable experiences to your holiday experiences, particularly appealing to families and groups. They offer a hands-on way to celebrate the season together. Collaborating with local artists and experts can enhance the quality of your activities and create unique, memorable events that keep guests coming back year after year.
Finding the Right Partners
• Local Talent: Reach out to local artists, bakers, and craftsmen with a reputation for quality and creativity. Attend local art fairs, craft shows, and community events to discover potential collaborators.
• Community Involvement: Contact local trade schools, art studios, and community centers to find talented individuals who can contribute their expertise to your workshops.
Creating Collaborative Experiences
• Custom Workshops: Work with your partners to design workshops that fit the holiday season theme and showcase their unique skills. For example, a local sculptor could lead a pumpkin carving workshop, while a local pastry chef could teach a cookie decorating class.
• Promotion: Promote these collaborations through your marketing channels, highlighting the expertise of your guest instructors to attract more participants.
Enhancing the Visitor Experience
• Interactive Elements: Ensure that the workshops are interactive and hands-on, allowing participants to engage with the activity fully. Provide all necessary materials and create a welcoming environment.
• Learning Opportunities: Emphasize the workshops' experiential aspect, allowing participants to learn new skills and techniques from professionals.
Planning and executing successful seasonal events require creativity, careful planning, and a focus on creating memorable experiences. By incorporating holiday-themed decorations, having novel food and beverage offerings, providing interactive workshops, and building community partnerships, you can create seasonal experiences that attract and delight families enhancing the guest experience and building a loyal customer base that returns season after season.•

The Power of ADD-ONS
Birthday Party Bookings
Welcome to a world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and every party package becomes a potential goldmine! As an entertainment host, you are uniquely positioned to transform a simple party booking into a spectacular event that boosts guest satisfaction and your bottom line. While basic packages serve their purpose, incorporating a variety of interesting add-ons enhances the customer experience while simultaneously enhancing your revenue streams.
Most centers offer one or two basic party packages to keep things simple for people booking the party. However, by providing various party package add-ons, you can turn that basic package into a unique experience for guests and even more revenue for your center.
Focus On Food
One of the most accessible add-ons a bowling center can offer for parties is different food options that are not part of the basic party package.
"Food is one thing that almost every center can offer above and beyond a basic pizza or hot dog," says Mike Monroe, CEO of marketing firm First Frame Bowling. "Utilize your menu and think outside the box." Monroe suggests offering food items like baskets of the usual party fare along with sliders. Slider options are always fun because you can put them on a tray and make them look fun and exciting.
Over at Jake's Unlimited in Mesa, AZ — an FEC offering bowling, laser tag, carnival rides, and virtual reality — their basic party package includes the same unlimited food options for all guests. However, the FEC offers dessert addons that can replace a standard birthday cake or cupcakes through Jake's Sweet Shoppe.
By Corrie Pelc
Party Business
"We can do ice cream cakes or ice cream cupcakes," explains Bryan Maxwell, president of brands. "We have a bundle package that includes these big, colossal desserts, like the big cookie with ice cream scoops for the birthday star. That's been a great revenue generator for us, but it also takes the headache away from the parents having to bring in a special dessert. We already have it here; it's ready for them."
Adding Passes & Experiences
Bowling centers and FECs offering different attractions can be excellent party add-ons. Monroe says other experiences, such as an arcade, laser tag, miniature golf, or bounce house, can enhance a party experience. "Anything that you can add on that's going to be fun and supervised for the kids, absolutely you want to put that on," he added.
For those extra experiences, Maxwell suggests offering a "fast pass" as a party-all-on so partygoers can jump the line. He also mentions parent passes, which they offer at Jake's Unlimited.
"You have that awkward moment where you're throwing a party for your son or daughter, and the parents are showing up. Do you expect them to pay, or are they expecting you to pay?" Maxwell explains. "My son was the sales director here, and he came up with the idea of the parent pass package, which is for one price we'll give them ten free parents coming in. So they can pay one bulk rate to add on those parents and neither of them will have that awkward moment when they show up."
Offer Something Others Don't
With so many options for birthday parties, bowling centers, and FECs have a lot of competition. The key is to offer something the others don't. "Realize that it is a service to the customers to educate them on what's available and to give them options to make that party their own," he continues. "We come up with the base packages, but there are other things that they may be interested in doing that they don't know are available unless we offer those to them."
For example, Monroe suggests looking outside the center for local talents, such as DJs, magicians, and face painting. "There's always something you can find locally," he adds.
Monroe also says offering an organized and prepared party host as partygoers arrive is very important. "Just showing organization means 'Hey, we've got you, don't worry about it!'" he explains. "Mom and Dad want that warm, fuzzy feeling that they were taken care of in the booking process. And then when they're there, they see that the tables are already set up (and) they see the party host."
And with the party marketing slogan of "Leave it all to us," Jake's Unlimited tries to make the process as easy on parents as possible. For example, they even offer premade goodie bags as an add-on.
"Honestly, what's important in all of it is to train your sales reps and your party servers that they're not selling to the customer — they're educating them on what's available to make the party the best it can be," he continues. "Parents like to be able to personalize the party for their kid and the other participants at the party. They need us to let them know what's available."
In a landscape brimming with choices for birthday celebrations, the real magic lies in crafting an unforgettable experience that resonates uniquely with each guest. As Monroe aptly puts it, "It's not just about selling; it's about creating a narrative of fun and ease that intertwines seamlessly with the event."
For bowling centers and FECs, these tailored add-ons are not merely extras—they are the elements that transform a standard gathering into a memorable fiesta. Remember, the key to maximizing bookings and revenue lies in offering something unique that turns a routine party into the talk of the town. •

BOWL BEATS N' Minnesota Center Innovates
with A Fresh Spin on Open
Play
By Stephanie Davis
Located in Apple Valley, Minnesota, just south of St. Paul, Bogart's Entertainment Center isn't just another bowling alley; it's a comprehensive entertainment hub redefining what it means to enjoy a night out. Acquired in 2018 by Alan Loth, Scott Koecheler, and Chris Loth, this 24lane center underwent extensive renovations to update and modernize the facility.
Beyond its bowling lanes, Bogart's boasts an ample event space, outdoor activities, including sand volleyball, and seasonal offerings at its lively outdoor bar, making it a unique venue in the St. Paul suburb with a population of 55,000. The 8,000-squarefoot multipurpose room accommodates up to 500 guests for events like live music shows, dueling pianos, and various private functions. "We get a great variety of guests attending our live entertainment shows from Baby Boomers to Gen X, whether they are following their favorite performers or come to appreciate the unique and extraordinary entertainment experience we are striving to deliver," said Chris.
"Our marketing team, always looking to blend our live entertainment offerings with our bowling roots, brainstormed this unique concept," explains Chris. He credits his wife, Andrea, a marketing team member, with planting the seeds for the initial concept, and then the team ran with it. The four-person marketing team initially considered using their large multipurpose room but opted to enhance the bowling experience directly by bringing more action to the lanes.
A standout addition to Bogart's repertoire is its Bowl N' Beats program, introduced in late May 2024 to boost open play attendance during Minnesota's warm weather months and expose the center to new guests, specifically young Millennials and Gen Z. Bowl N' Beats transforms the traditional bowling experience by incorporating a live DJ who performs directly above the bowling lanes every Saturday night from 9 p.m. to midnight. This innovative concept merges the energy of a nightclub with the casual, fun atmosphere of bowling, creating an interactive experience that appeals to both avid bowlers and those looking for a unique night out. "We're bowlers at heart, so we like to find unique ways to offer bowling as part of the overall experience," mentioned Chris.
Since its launch, Bowl N' Beats has seen growing attendance and increased Saturday night foot traffic. "We've seen a 30% increase in bowling sales alone," Chris notes, highlighting the positive reception from the community. The center does not charge extra for the DJ experience, maintaining its standard Saturday night rates. The feedback from guests has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their enjoyment of the interactive and lively atmosphere. The center allows music requests through social media, further engaging its audience and personalizing the experience. Special lighting effects create a distinctive "moonlight ambiance," distinguishing Bowl N' Beats nights from regular operations.
"Guests like to make requests, so we have them do so through our center's Facebook page that the DJ follows. We put flyers in the settee area with a QR code to our Facebook page so they can make requests from there. This alone creates additional conversation online, with followers asking, "What is this Bowl N' Beats?" said Chris. The center also includes another QR code on the flyer with the DJ's Venmo account so guests can easily tip if they choose to.
Bogart's collaborates with experienced DJs who add professional audio setups over the lanes, enhancing the ambient experience. Chris recommends looking for someone with a solid social media following and reviews. Bogart's pays its DJs competitively, typically $100 per hour, for the three-hour event.
Bowl N' Beats is promoted using in-house signage, a modern and regularly updated website, and a strong presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and Google Business. This marketing effort helps draw in guests who, on average, fall in the 35-and-under demographic.
Because Bowl N' Beats is marketed as a premium experience, Bogart's does not discount their food and beverage offerings. Instead, they feature elevated, specialty cocktails in alignment with their usual philosophy of not delivering the lowest prices in town but providing the best experience. Chris noted that one drink the center regularly offers is a different type of mule each month, which has been very popular. "When other patrons see people walking around with a special mule glass, they take notice and want to try one," said Chris.
Chris stresses the importance of using quality pictures and videos. "It's important to share what's happening at the event through your social media and website. It will help your program grow and show the new things you have going on. You don't need to hire an expensive firm; instead, use your social media platforms to find local individuals passionate about photography and videography. You may surprise yourself and find one of your regulars is just that person you are looking for." The Bogart's team posted on Facebook and Instagram about new opportunities for their marketing team and received a great response. Chris feels lucky to have found people who do a dynamite job and were looking to hone their skills while working as freelancers or part-timers.
Chris recommends thorough planning and community engagement for other centers considering similar initiatives. "Your program doesn't have to be perfect, especially in the beginning. You can adjust as you move along. Each week, our team meets to see what we can do to improve the program for our guests and staff. We keep tweaking what we do and improving."
Reflecting on the program, Chris advocates for continuous innovation, "You have to be willing to step outside your comfort zone and try new things, even if they might initially make you uncomfortable." One key to Bogart's success is their willingness
to innovate and adapt, ensuring that each offering aligns with their mission of unique and extraordinary entertainment experiences and the center's operational capabilities.
"We sit down as a team regularly and see where we're weak or where we can improve. Everyone offers input on what we can do to boost a weak spot. We regularly ask ourselves, 'What do people want? Who do we target with the offering we're developing, and how do we reach them?'" Getting away from the daily grind to work on the business, not just in the business, opens the flow of creative juices. "Live music was new to us when we bought the center. We had to get comfortable with it over time. Music is a big part of our entertainment mix, and guests have responded tremendously." Chris's advice is to make yourself uncomfortable and not be afraid to do something even if you might fail.
Bogart's Entertainment Center has turned the classic bowling center vibe on its head, morphing into a thrilling nightlife hotspot that draws in crowds from all walks of life. With a dash of creativity and an intelligent strategy, traditional centers can rock the competitive entertainment scene today, bringing in new guests and giving a reason for others to return more frequently.
TOP TIPS FOR OTHER VENUES:
• Continuously work on improving your programs based on guest and staff feedback.
• Think through the logistics carefully with your entire team to ensure smooth execution.
• Evaluate your AV system and consider upgrades to enhance the atmosphere.
• Find professional DJs who align with your brand and have a solid social media presence.
• Regularly assess the need for security to maintain a safe environment for guests.
• Master the art of delegation. Handling every detail alone is a monumental task. By embracing a team approach from concept to execution, your program will be easier to manage and more successful.•
Meet Ryan Borton
By Stephanie Davis
"Inside Line" features a team member from one of our industry partners. It's intriguing to discover more about the individuals who drive success at their companies and within the industry. This month, we chatted with Ryan Borton, CEO of Funovation.
IBI: How long have you been with Funovation? What is your current position?
Ryan: I stepped into the family entertainment industry with Funovation, starting as the sales director in May 2015. My first event was attending the International Bowl Expo. By early 2016, the ownership group offered me the position of CEO. I officially took the helm in June 2016 and have been leading Funovation ever since.
IBI: What makes Funovation unique?
Ryan: We are unique in that Funovation was born out of the desire to delight people by creating fun and exciting attractions while being highly profitable for the operator. Our framework for accomplishing this is to create heart-pounding, addictive attractions that require brain and brawn. Our attractions are designed to get players through as quickly as possible and thus create a fast ROI for the operator.
IBI: What new things are happening at Funovation?
Ryan: We're introducing the Infinite Laser Challenge™, our latest attraction. This small footprint attraction ushers in the next generation of laser mazes by enabling every laser beam around the room to move during gameplay. We just installed our first one in South Korea and will have our first U.S. location installed shortly. Much like the dynamic gameplay, the Infinite Laser Challenge attraction game offerings will change continuously, too. Walking into this attraction isn't like any other laser attraction you've seen before! We are also developing a new product that we hope to share with the market soon. Stay tuned!
IBI: What new trends do you see emerging going through 2024?
Ryan: The trend I see emerging in family entertainment is providing entertainment that people cannot do at home. I see attractions being taken out of facilities because people can do them at home. "Family entertainment" has been changed to "location-based entertainment."
IBI: Tell us about the FUN Conference.
Ryan: Absolutely, we just had our third annual FUN Conference in Colorado, www.fecfun.com, which was a tremendous success. The FUN Conference is a three-day event that provides a good mix of growth and networking opportunities, along with education and, of course, fun. Attendees learn from knowledgeable leaders in the industry. We have a wide range
of sponsors from different areas of the industry who share decades of knowledge. Our conversations are collaborative. We are there to listen and facilitate, not just to talk to you. This conference is an opportunity to connect with industry veterans and other like-minded operators.
IBI: What do you like most about your job?
Ryan: The people—the people I work with, our customers, and fellow suppliers. This is the first industry I have worked in where customers come to your tradeshow booth and give you a hug. The family entertainment community is welcoming and willing to share what it takes to be successful.
IBI: What strategy do you employ to keep you organized and on-task?
Ryan: I utilize an "E-list." This is an execution list that I prepare on Fridays for the upcoming week. It includes things that I plan to accomplish. I can add to the list, but it prepares me for the week ahead and is ready for me on Monday morning so I can start the week strong.
We also have a Vivid Vision, a plan that helps drive the company's direction.
IBI: When you're not working, how do you like to spend your time?
Ryan: I coach two competitive soccer teams for the Colorado Ignite Soccer Club and have the privilege of coaching my son and daughter. If I am not doing that, I watch football on Sunday and cheer on the Raiders.
IBI: What would our readers be surprised to learn about you?
Ryan: I skipped Kindergarten.
DUCKPIN BOWLING IS EVERYWHERE
Tenpin bowling is widespread; its squatty cousin, duckpin, has stayed more concentrated in the U.S. in and around the eastern seaboard, starting in Maryland and Massachusetts as early as the 1890s. The saying, "Go West young man, go West!" has set duckpins in motion, and now they compete with their 10-pin cousins.
INDIANA
Downtown Fort Wayne is growing, and The Pearl, a seven-story, inviting, mixed-use building, offers the entertainment the community seeks. Restaurateur Johnny Perez is opening Ducky’s , an up-scale American-style restaurant with eight lanes of duckpin bowling for all ages. “We want it to be a place where you can bring your kids to play but still feel it’s of a high enough caliber that you want to hang out and eat there yourself,” says Perez.
WISCONSIN
TEXAS
Xtreme Jump Adventure Park in Temple has recently expanded its entertainment offerings by introducing duckpin bowling. This unique bowling experience with smaller, lightweight balls is perfect for players of varying skill levels. The park’s six lanes allow up to eight players per lane, ideal for groups and families.
The first duckpin bowling balls were tossed during the groundbreaking ceremony in Beloit for Henry Dorrbaker Pub and Play Center, which will feature games, food, drink, and other entertaining attractions such as minigolf and arcade games. The center’s name reflects a bit of Beloit history: Henry Dorrbaker owned the city’s first bowling alley, which was established in 1899 in downtown Beloit.
ACROSS THE POND – UK
King Pins, a new tech-infused bowling FEC, has opened its doors in Manchester, Arndale, the second Kin Pins in the Manchester area. The venue offers 12 lanes of tenpin bowling, eight lanes of duckpin bowling, two karaoke party rooms, and an arcade with the latest games. Further, patrons can enjoy American-style pool, shuffleboard, batting cages, and ice-free curling. At this location mini-golf, darts, and a shooting range will be featured at King Pins for the first time.

They're then topped with a perfect portion of lean protein—say, grilled chicken or beans for a vegetarian twist— garnished with an array of veggies, zesty dried fruits, crunchy nuts, and a drizzle of an inventive dressing. The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination, making "bowlification" the next big hit for your menu.
WHY BOWLS ARE A GAMECHANGER FOR YOUR MENU
Get ready to ride the bowl wave! This isn't just a passing trend; food bowls have been winning hearts since 2016, even catching the attention of the Wall Street Journal. Brands like Chipotle and Cava have shown that today’s diners love meals that are not only tasty and visually appealing but also highly customizable. According to culinary guru Mike Coble, “Today’s diners relish smaller protein portions alongside a bounty of veggies and legumes.” Bowls make it easy to create balanced, portion-controlled meals, perfect for health-conscious customers or those with dietary restrictions.
EFFICIENCY AND PROFITABILITY ALL IN ONE BOWL Bowls aren't just a hit with customers—they can be a smart move for your business, too. Offering food bowls can dramatically cut food costs and reduce waste by allowing you
to use a core set of ingredients across multiple dishes. This streamlined approach means quicker prep times and simpler inventory management, speeding up service and reducing spoilage risks.
Even better, bowls are typically high-margin items. Market them as customizable and healthy options to attract a diverse customer base and significantly boost your bottom line. By highlighting these high-profit bowls on your menu, you can enhance revenue even further.
Think of your menu as a canvas ready for a trendy makeover. Turn popular dishes into bowl versions to stay ahead of dining trends. Imagine transforming a traditional breakfast burrito into a vibrant Huevos Rancheros Bowl. It's a surefire way to keep your offerings fresh and exciting while boosting your business’s efficiency and appeal.
READY TO ROLL WITH THE TREND?
Here are a few easy recipes to get your creative juices flowing. If you’re feeling energetic, you may also want to take a quick field trip to your local Chipotle location for inspiration.

• Veggies: Cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, steamed broccoli
• Toppings: Avocado slices, shredded carrots
• Dressing: Herby yogurt dressing
• Garnish: Chopped fresh herbs (like parsley or cilantro)

HEARTY BEAN BOWL – VEGETARIAN OPTION

• Protein: A mix of black beans or kidney beans seasoned with cumin and chili powder

IDENTITY BRAND Building Your Center's
Branding Is Your Secret Weapon In A Competitive Marketplace
with Steve Cieslewicz
Branding isn't just for the big players like Dave & Buster's; every bowling center, including yours, has a brand. Branding is the identity that shapes how your customers perceive you, encompassing everything from the ambiance to the services you offer. What's your brand like?
Identifying Your Brand
Start by assessing what makes your center unique. How many lanes do you offer? What's the size of your kitchen or snack bar? Do you have a full-scale game room or just a claw machine? Maybe you have a banquet hall or outdoor activities. Understanding these features helps position your brand in the marketplace
Branding Exercise
Try this quick exercise: grab a pen and paper and write down the first brand that comes to mind for each: soda, beer, wine, pizza, Mexican food, Chinese food, fast food, and various entertainment options. What brands came to mind? Coke or Pepsi? Bud Light or Miller Lite? These responses reveal what draws you to specific brands: quality, service, or popularity. Analyzing why you prefer these brands can offer insights into shaping your center's brand. I always encourage operators to ask their employees for feedback as well. Gathering as much information as possible will help you clarify what you want your brand to look and feel like.
Building Your Brand
Creating a brand takes time and effort. Once you establish it, the next step is marketing. While most centers may not have the budget for a massive campaign, there are costeffective strategies you can employ. In our center, we use our logo creatively on birthday glasses, hats, T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, bumper stickers, bowling balls, pens, minikegerators, can koozies, and more.
We also leverage social media, billboards, local newspapers, and even sponsor a golf hole at a local course. We choose various marketing channels to keep our approach fresh.
Affordable Marketing Tips
Consider starting with small, manageable steps like enhancing your digital menu boards or distributing branded pens. Remember, the most cost-effective marketing tool is word of mouth. Encourage your satisfied customers to share their
BRAND
BUILDING BLOCKS
BRAND RECOGNITION
Keeping your brand consistent across all platforms could bump up your revenue 23%. When your brand looks the same everywhere, it's easier for folks to spot and remember you, which can sway their buying choices (Forbes)
COMPETITIVE EDGE
Branding is your secret weapon in a crowded market when you make your offerings stand out by packing them with personality! You're more likely to draw in customers and keep them than businesses that don't put effort into branding.
CUSTOMER ACQUISITION
Believe it or not, 73% of shoppers prefer buying from brands known for excellent customer service. Nailing that friendly, personalized service can turn a one-time buyer into a repeat customer (Curatti)
CUSTOMER LOYALTY
A whopping 89% of consumers stick with brands that reflect their values. That's why it's crucial to communicate what your brand stands for, forging stronger bonds with your audience (SmallBizGenius)
experiences on social media. This not only builds your brand but does so authentically and sustainably.
By reflecting on what attracts you to other brands and applying those principles to your center, you can craft a brand identity that resonates with your community and stands out in the competitive FEC industry. These are just a few ideas to help build your brand; I hope this helps you get the ball rolling.•
HEALTHIER FLOORS Step Up To
By Jose A. Segarra and Randell Thrasher
Choosing the right materials
For the past few months, we have focused on seven points to consider for successfully designing and choosing materials for your floors: design, functionality, performance, health, sustainability, maintenance, and return on investment. This month, we focus on HEALTH.
When most people think of health, the last thing that comes to mind is looking down at the floor they are stepping on. However, being in the flooring business, we have a different perspective. Healthy floors are essential for maintaining a clean and hygienic environment and promoting the health of people, property, and the Planet.
The most obvious display of unhealthy floors can be seen when stepping into environments where the floors don't look clean. Part of it can be blamed on the maintenance programs in place, but often enough, we can link this directly to the flooring surface itself. In a previous issue, we discussed flooring performance and the importance of choosing the right materials for each area depending on functionality.
The right material will allow you to set the appropriate maintenance to ensure the floor is free of dust, dirt, allergens, food residue, and other agents that can soil your floors and sometimes dwell in them for a long time. I say "in them" because, unbeknownst to many of us, our floors have plenty of room (texture, crevasses, porosities, etc.) where unwanted soil will deposit and stay, creating unhealthy airborne substances.
Most people use harsh chemical cleaners to disinfect floors, which promise to eliminate nearly all germs. However, these products can leave behind residues and emit fumes that may harm your health and your staff and patrons. To reduce these harsh chemicals, consider using flooring materials that are easier to maintain and can be effectively cleaned with just simple cleaning agents or plain water.
Beyond cleaning, though, have you ever thought about how your beautiful floors were manufactured? Our architectural minds will lead us to choose the most beautiful surfaces for our bowling centers, and our financial minds will happily
reconcile the bank account when we score a deal for the latest designer floor that looks great and has an excellent price tag. What part of our mind asks if the raw materials utilized on these floors were sourced responsibly? Maybe none.
Historically, we have been exposed to buildings that we innocently inhabited — where we grew up, where we got educated, where we worked or went to have fun and a good family time — without ever asking if Polybrominated diphenyl ethers or chromated copper arsenic, or maybe formaldehyde, or asbestos, or phthalates are filling the air that we breathe. For many building materials, these substances have constituted their recipe, but modern Public Health stats will show how the effects of such chemicals have caused severe health concerns. What if that could have been prevented?
When selecting a flooring surface of your liking, after you have determined that it fits the performance requirements and contributes to the functionality of your environment, don't forget to expand your research to how the product was made. Sustainability is at the core of many manufacturers who will spare no expense to have their products tested and verified with recognizable labels like the Declare program, which provides data on raw materials, processes, impacts, and end-of-life options for the materials they produce. Also, getting HPDs (Health Product Declarations) and EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) from websites or by contacting your manufacturer should be easy.
By following these tips, you can maintain healthy floors that are visually appealing and contribute to a clean and healthy space.•
