Assessment Day
Assessment Day We look forward to welcoming you to our Assessment Day. You will find information about the day below. What should I wear? Please wear school uniform. What should I bring? Please bring a clear pencil case that contains a pencil, rubber, pencil sharpener, blue or black pen and a ruler. You do not need a calculator. Where do I go? Please come to Reception in the main building, Dalewood House. What time do I need to arrive? Please arrive by 10.30am for Year 9 and 10.45am for Year 7. What happens if I am delayed or cannot make the day? If this happens, do not worry, please contact our Reception on 01372 373382 and someone will be able to help you. What is the format of the day? You will be met and looked after by our staff on arrival. First you will sit your English Test. Then you will have lunch.
Following lunch, you will have some fun activities and a short interview with the Headmaster or one of his senior staff. After this you will sit your Maths test. Once this is finished you will ready to be picked up. What happens if I usually get extra time for an exam? If you have been allocated extra time, you will get an extra 25% for the English paper. Where do I take the exams? You will sit the exams in a room designated for the Assessment Day along with about 15 other children. A teacher will be present, so if you have any questions you can put up your hand and the teacher will help you. What time do I get picked up? Pick up will be at 2.30pm.
What will the exam papers consist of? MATHS
ENGLISH
Time allowed: 45 minutes
For students joining in Year 7 the time allowed is 45 minutes.
The Maths paper will cover topics that you study at school. We expect you to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals. You will be expected to apply these skills to solve problems involving charts, diagrams and tables.
When do I hear if I have been successful in my application? You will receive a letter by post by the end of December for Year 9 entry and by the 14th February for Year 7 entry, regarding the outcome of the Assessment Day and whether we are offering you a place at Box Hill School. If you accept the place, you will be invited to spend time with us at the end of the Summer Term, when you will meet your new Form tutor and fellow pupils.
For students joining in Year 9 the time allowed is 1 hour. The English paper consists of a reading comprehension and a piece of creative writing.
