Students in the Fast Lane to a Career in Automotive
The automotive industry is a pathway into an exciting and secure future – that has been the message students have received at their local career days by the MTA.
MTA Automotive Industry Careers Mentor Shaun O’Brien recently visited the Casuarina Senior College annual Futures Expo.
“It was attended by many large and well known companies in the NT and I was invited to set up an MTA booth on the day by Renee Elliot, who is the school’s Pathway and Career Coordinator,” he said.
“I met Renee earlier in the year to discuss how we could assist her students interested in automotive to begin an apprenticeship or do some work experience with our members.”
MTA Member Darwin Motor Group (DMG) joined Shaun for the careers day and even brought along a BMW to their booth next to the MTA exhibition to attract students and start a discussion about the sector.
Shaun said that in the weeks following the event he had already assisted students from the career day find opportunities within the industry.
“It was a huge success and the students loved the MTA booth and I have received an almost overwhelming amount of interest from students looking to begin a career in automotive since,” Shaun said.
“Many also applied for positions with our member Darwin Motor Group as a result of them joining us on the day.
“It is great to have such a strong response from students and schools as we showcase the diverse and exciting careers available to them across the automotive industry.”
