Religious by Bishop Aubrey Shines Over the last decade, pastors and people of faith have been raising concerns over the gradual erosion of religious liberties in America. The expressed concerns of men like Tony Perkins had largely been ignored because most Americans could not imagine that one of the basic tenets of our democracy could be in jeopardy. We learn as early as grade school that the freedom to express religious views is one of the very reasons that men and women set sail to for this brave new world. Under the false banner of promoting equality and justice under the law, religious liberties are being chipped away by organizations with animus towards people of faith in general and people of Judeo-Christian heritage in particular. Even when the courts ruled in favor of religious freedom, the constant attacks by well-funded groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and the Human Rights Campaign create a chilling effect by discouraging people of faith from speaking out. Less than a year ago, Dr. Angela McCaskill a Christian and an administrator at a college in the nation’s capital was suspended for merely signing a petition giving

citizensthe opportunity vote on the issue of marriage. Dr. McCaskill’s treatment is only one example of a long list of Christians who are being repremanded, marginalized and bullied because of their Biblical Worldview. This type of censorship would have been wholly inconceivable two decades ago. It amounts to little more than sophisticated bullying. The Bible reveals to us in no uncertain terms that when we come into fellowship with Jesus the Christ, we will come under attack. Therefore, the attacks are not as much of a concern as the lack of interest that Christians show in having these liberties stripped away. As the number of Christians forced into silence grows, those who will speak out in their defense must also grow. There are two reasons why the lack of outrage by Christians over eroding religious liberties is troubling. Reason one is purely secular. America, the land of the brave and the home of the free must continue to set the standard for religious freedom. America must continue to be a place that flourishes and thrives on freely competing ideas. As Bible believing followers of Jesus the Christ, there is no fear in

“Religious liberty might be supposed to mean that everybody is free to discuss religion. In practice it means that hardly anybody is allowed to mention it.” ― G.K. Chesterton

embracing the ability for all religious points of view to have a voice in the marketplace. There is no fear because the truth of Christianity, the transparency of the Gospel always wins out in the end. The second reason that Christians should be concerned about the religious liberties attack movement is because of its impact on the great commission. In His words to Peter, Christ gives a charge to us all to make disciples. If we are stripped of our voice in the public square our ability to do the very basic but utterly profound act of sharing the Gospel will be compromised.

ministry spotlight Men of Valor In contrast to the normal percentages, our congregation is comprised of 43 percent men. I believe this is a direct result of several concrete strategies we’ve implemented: We intentionally create an environment where men are the first people you see when you pull up to the front of the building. We encourage men to participate in the lives of the sons from single-mom families. These men are visible at academic or ath-letic functions. We provide a monthly men’s meeting to allow a time of fellowship and talk about subjects they favor; nothing is off limits. We mobilize men to help single mothers with important tasks, such as moving or car repair. We encourage open displays of affection from men toward their family members. I personally embrace and kiss my two sons in front of our entire congregation. We counsel men who have fathered children outside of matrimony to become active fathers in their children’s lives.

Men’s ministry vision:

-Establishing a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, worship, and studying God’s word together -Providing a support system and a means of fellowship for the men of Glory to Glory -To provide the necessary tools to enable men to actively walk in their spiritual leadership roles in the home, church, and workplace

Mission:

- To build Strong, Godly Men through prayer, integrity, and accountability to one another - Establishing a mentorship program for the youth of our community - To provide proactive visibility and support of the fatherless households of Glory to Glory Ministries
