THREE LITTLE PIGS "It's about time that you kids set out into the wide world to seek your fortunes," said Mama pig to her three little darlings. "Go to your rooms and pack your things and before you go, here is a treat for all of you." Saying this, she gave each one of them a big ball of fluffy yummy cotton candy.
"Take one," she said, and before they could dash to their rooms, she added
"remember, if you could resist your temptation to eat it immediately, but wait till your packing is done; I will give you another one as a reward." "OK, mama" all shouted in unison and rushed to get their stuff. Henry, the eldest, ate it as he was dashing into his room. Pablo, ate it in the comfort of his room. Percy, the youngest, did not. "Here is your reward, Percy", said Mama pig, "and remember little ones, great things happen to those who are patient." They waved good-bye to their mother, and traveled many many miles until they found a spot that suited them and set about building their houses. Henry decided to build his house out of straw. Pablo decided to build his house out of sticks. Percy decided to build his house out of bricks.
"What a choice you have made, Percy," lamented his brothers. "We have completed ours and are playing and enjoying life. But from the looks of it you have a long way to go."
"Yes," said Percy. "Come, take a break and play with us. Or better still, do as we did. Build your house too, of either straw or sticks" advised his brothers. "No," said Percy, "remember what Mama said, "great things happen to those who are patient". The brothers left him to toil in peace and went about splashing and frolicking,
jumping and dancing, running and climbing, laughing and screaming, living and loving their way of life. Percy, was disturbed and doubts creeped into his mind. But, he remained stead fast in his resolve. He thought to himself,
Why should building houses be a toil? Well, how often do you get to build houses? Why not have fun with this?
He made smiley faces on some of the wet clay before they could be hardened by the Sun.
"I love it. And I shall call these bricks of mine, 'Brickleys'".
Now he had a wall that smiled back at him. Pretty soon Percy's house was built.
And as fate would have it, a big bad wolf chanced upon the little pigs in the forest, and decides to make a meal of them. The brothers rushed into the safety of their respective homes, as they saw the danger approaching.
The wolf saw the three houses and choose the easiest one first. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in." "No, no, not by the hair on my chinny chin chin" replied Henry. "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in." He huffed and he puffed and the straw house began to give in. Henry ran away by the back door to the house of Pablo.
"More, the better, one for lunch and one for supper" said the wolf grinning devilishly and started walking towards Pablo's house. "Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in." "No, no, not by the hair on our chinny chin chin" replied Henry and Pablo. "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in." He huffed and he puffed. Nothing happened. The pigs sighed in relief, but not for long as the wolf took a deep breath and blew hard.
A few small sticks began to break and he poked his nose through the hole, and said, "Little pigs" with a eerie cheerful tone that made the pigs shiver with fright. They ran through the back door to Percy's house. "This keeps on getting interesting," said the wolf, "now I can have one for lunch, one for supper and one for dinner too." Saying this the wolf strolled towards the only remaining house with his head held high, and whistling a soft melody in anticipation of his triumph.
"Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in." "No, no, not by the hair on our chinny chin chin" replied the brothers in unison. "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in." He huffed and he puffed. Nothing happened. He took a deep breath and he huffed and he puffed. Again nothing happened. So he took and long deep breath and he huffed and he puffed. But, again, nothing happened, except the 'Brickleys' smiled back mockingly at him. For the entire afternoon the big bad wolf huffed and puffed, and puffed and huffed, but to no vain. Now he was weak and tired from all his unsuccessful attempts, when he suddenly announced,
"In the nick of time my memory serves me right," he wondered aloud so that the little pigs could hear, "Thank, Goodness. I forgot, that I am a vegetarian."
"So long, pigs. Peace be with you." saying this he bolted from the spot never to be seen again. The brothers heaved a big sigh of relief. "Now I understand the lesson Mama taught us before we left", Henry lamented. "Yes," replied Pablo, "we succumbed to the immediate temptation to play and enjoy life, by choosing the easy way to build our houses." "Correct," answered Percy, "and also both of you did not think about the consequences of your decisions." "But, all's well that ends well" smiled Percy as he hugged his brothers.
