Peter Gabriel Reflections Iconic Photographs in Bath by Clive Arrowsmith (1978) Coming to MoBA December 2018 The Museum of Bath Architecture is delighted to announce an amazing exhibition of previously unseen photographs by internationally acclaimed photographer Clive Arrowsmith. Clive who is famous for his work with Vogue, The Pirelli calendar and his images of global superstars like David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney, Daniel Barenboim, Prince Charles, Michael Caine, Helena Bonham Carter and the Dalai Lama to name just a few. In 1978 Clive Arrowsmith photographed Peter Gabriel in a number of key architectural locations around Bath, such as the Abbey and Roman Baths and near Solsbury Hill (which is the title of a classic Gabriel track released in 1977). Gabriel had recently left the band Genesis to start a solo career when these images where shot. Clive first photographed Peter Gabriel for Vogue in the early 70s (when he was still with Genesis). The Bath shoot was their second shoot together and pursues a more surrealistic and intimate vision than their first which came about after Peter called Clive and asked him to come to Bath. The Vogue images were more bound up in the progressive rock pageantry of Genesis. Visitors will see images from both shoots. Additionally there will be other images from Clive’s extensive body of work, including images of The Dalai Lama, David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Mick Ronson and Kate Bush. There will be a programme of exciting events and talks by Clive Arrowsmith, which will take place at the beautiful No.15 Great Pulteney Street Hotel. There will also be a studio photography workshop and Clive will be running a very special live Photo-booth where museum visitors can have their portrait taken by one of the most influential portrait photographers of today (booking in advance for this is advised). The Exhibition opens 1st December. Normal admission prices apply. Check website for more details: museumofbatharchitecture.org.uk

ABOUT

CLIVE ARROWSMITH Clive Arrowsmith is a London based, celebrated international photographer. He studied painting and design and began taking photographs while also working as a graphic designer. Leaving television to work as a photographer, he soon gained commissions from leading fashion magazines, most notably British & French Vogue, Harpers, The Sunday Times Colour Magazine, Vanity Fair, Esquire U.S.A, and the F.T. “How to Spend It”. Clive continues to work in this genre in both editorial and advertising photography. He has published two books – Arrowsmith: Fashion, Beauty and Portraits, an overview of his career to date which was described by New York critic Jeffrey Felner as ‘Nothing short of sensational” and Lowry At Home: Salford 1966. The Lowry book was accompanied by an exhibition of the same name at The Lowry in Salford that had over 10,000 visitors in the summer of 2017. Clive says that the work that has moved him the most is taking photographs of His Holiness The Dalai Lama and his teacher Kyongla Rato Rinpoche.

Architectural Photographer of the Year 2018 If you love photography you’ll love this This year we launch our first annual photography competition. Architecture is all around us, virtually everywhere we go there is some kind of building, structure or space. Photography is now the most accessible format of recording our lives especially with the development of the smart phone. The Museum of Bath Architecture is exploring the intrinsic link between Architecture and Photography and the way in which we engage in the built environment through photos. As such we want to see how others interpret buildings and man-made structures. The competition has two main categories: 1. Open Architecture (split into Adult & Junior sections) looking at photography of architecture taken anywhere in the world. Be bold, be creative! 2. The city of Bath UK. Open to all ages this category looks at the wonderful architecture of this World Heritage Site City. The top ten selected images will be printed and framed for display at the 2019 exhibition at the Museum of Bath Architecture; after the exhibition these will be offered to the successful entrants. Prizes will be awarded to first place winners from each category.
