ASSIGNMENT 1
DESIGN TOOL WORKBOOK
PROJECT DESCRIPTION In this assignment, we are to understand and identify Design Elements through elements found around them or on the internet. Furthermore, we have to explain thoroughly by drawing, graphic and diagram in an infographic form through what we understand after doing in depth research.
TASK A
Design Element In task A, I have done thorough researches on design element, those include, lines and points, colour, space, texture and form. I’m to explain using drawing and pictures to express my understanding on a given template. I have learnt the important use of design elements and have the full understanding of the exact definition of those design elements. I’m surprised to find those elements revolves around us, also have
TASK B Design Principle In task B, I learnt the fundamental principle of design and able to define the difference between opposing principles by explain it in an infographic way with drawing, pictures and graphic.
Design Principle : symmetry , asymmetry Emphasis , hierarchy Dynamic , radial Unity , harmony Contrast , variety
TASK C Composition In task C, it requires us to do research on composition, which is the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art. Such as alignment, golden ratio, grid and rules of third. I drew out diagrams with writing to explain clearly the definition of each composition, then find objects around me to represent the compositions, not this but also learnt how to apply them correctly.
Task D Logo Design I can say this is the most challenging part. I’m asked to create a logo through the qualities and characteristics found in my given designer, Hussein Chalayan. So I started with research of my designer, pointing out the main four characteristics, design philosophy, technique, design approach and style. Then, continue with creating graphic that best represents his carefully chosen 3 qualities, decide a key word, design principle and a shape. Later on, I did some sketches to give myself varieties of ideas. Furthermore, I finally settle on only one of the sketches and begin refining and adding on colours. Finally, to explain about elements I used to apply on my final logo.
ASSIGNMENT 2
Geometric Abstract Art
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Application of design Principles and composition through 2D Transformation This assignment will explore design principles and composition where students will need to understand a designer’s philosophy as a concept or direction in creating geometrical and abstract artworks. “POLYPHONY” First, I started with refining the research on my designer. Secondly, I did more research into his work, I have chosen the overall work rather than series or collection. Lastly, I focus my design on featuring garment that gives sense of transformation, movement, structural and layering.
Orderly Artwork
Non-Orderly Artwork
DESIGN INTENTION In this design intention, I explained about the way I wanted my artworks to be and how it related closely to designer while I have two different artwork.
IDEA DERIVATION
TECHNIQUE
In the process of the ideas, I came out with an idea of using the sacred of geometry and transformation of shape but relate to the keyword at the same time. Applying the design elements, design principles and composition.
Since our artwork need to closely relate to our design so we are also asked to include the techniques used by my designer. Therefore, I explained the reason I used those technique I applied and how it reflects my designer
FINAL PROJECT
Design Corner Window Display INTRODUCTION THE ALLURE booth was dedicated to feature a dress from Hussein Chalayan Spring Summer 2000 “Before Minus Now” collection with an overall structural concept. THE ALLURE booth design derived from the extract and mixture of previous artwork “equilibrium” and the featuring dress. This booth was also design with the remarkable characteristics of Hussein Chalayan.
Final Project is an extension from assignment 2 where we will have to explore further on 3d and form transformation in 360 degree. Basically, we will apply the design elements, principles, composition and transformation of 2d to 3d in window display design. THE ALLURE So in this assignment, I have to mix the attire, artwork and designer DNA in to my corner window display. First, I did an introduction and explain about design intention. Then, I explained about idea derivation of the display. Lastly, I explained about the element I applied.
DPJ 01/02
DESIGN PROCESS JOURNAL 01/02
“DPJ” is a medium where I record my ideas, information based on my investigation and references. Including mind maps, sketches, scribbles, design process, diagrams. By referring to this, I’m able to see the process and progress, allows me to trace back my previous ideas. I did a mood board as a way to collect different creative information. It acts as a segue between initial thoughts or and the first draft of my project.
I have researched on a few geometric artist, in order to find some inspiration, alternative approach and ideas.
Again, a refined research on my designer. Adding in a conclusion is it‘s easier to understand
This is the initial dress I chose and did an in-depth on the shape, technique, colour and so on.
IDEA 2 “LABYRINTHINE”
IDEA 1 “POLYPHONY” In this first idea, I used the design principle of symmetry and asymmetry and still adhere to the keyword “structural” The technique : cut out and pasting Design element ; triangle
In the second idea, I tried applying design principle of dynamic and contrast. The technique : pasting and cutting Design element : rectangle
IDEA 2 “AMALGAM” In the last idea, I applied rhythm and harmony as the design principle, because it best suit the keyword “layer” The technique : pasting and layering or raised/depth Design element : lines, rectangle, square and diamond
D P J 0 2
I’m to find an inspiring retail booth that relates well to my designer. So I came across this booth and it really reflects the qualities found in my designer
In this table, I stated all the information so I was easier to understand and read what I intend to do
Basically, in this assignment we have to choose a garment to feature for our booth. So I have chosen a garment from spring summer 2000 ‘Before Minus Now’ and explained the reasons
In this slide, I explain about the intention and how I unite attire, artwork and designer DNA into my artwork
METHOD 2 Method 2, I use the elements and methods of the design to create the form of the booth METHOD 1 Method 1, I directly transform the artwork into 3D form without adjusting the placement
FINAL IDEA After finalising the idea, I explained how the idea represents my designer and the featuring dress
METHOD 1 METHOD 3 Method 3, I apply the main characteristic and elements of the artwork into a 3D booth that enhance the volume
THE END Now I have came to an end of FNBE, I got to say it was a life-time experience. I have learnt a lot through out this whole journey, not only I have learnt new knowledge but also met people who are always there for me, building new friendship and getting to know how much it takes to be an architect, it really inspired me. Never the least, I couldn’t thank my lecturer, Ms Dee enough for being there for us when we needed, she has done such fantastic work. RESPECT !
