Dear All Welcome to our 2013 catalogue, to which we’ve added an ata-glance listing of titles in the various series beyond our core range of country and regional guides (page 22). The catalogue is also available to download from our website. So we can keep you up-to-date on what’s being published when, we will be creating a trade section of the website from where you can download advance information sheets and updates on publications. We’ll send you further details as soon as the new section is ready. By the end of 2013 we will have around 170 titles in print. In 2013 we will be adding to our new range of travel narratives with titles from first-time authors and established writers such as Jonathan Scott, Peter Tyson and our very own Hilary Bradt, all of whom have wonderful tales to tell. Countries covered in the new titles include Mexico, Libya, Madagascar, Africa and Ireland, and there is a fascinating account of travelling through the Arab Spring from travel writer and journalist Tom Chesshyre. On the home front, we continue to explore Britain with a new Slow guide to the New Forest and the much anticipated Bus-Pass Britain Rides Again. Bus riders throughout Britain have contributed articles on more enticing bus routes and this sequel promises to be every bit as popular as the original Bus-Pass Britain, published in 2011. And the offering wouldn’t be complete without wildlife, for which we have James Lowen’s delightful 52 Wildlife Weekends: a Year of British Wildlife-Watching Breaks. We’re proud of our tradition of ‘getting there first ‘ and of the fact that each Bradt guide is a one-of-a-kind expression of the author’s interests, personality, expertise and passion for telling it how it really is. Our programme this year therefore includes more ground-breaking titles, including Uzbekistan, South Sudan and Tajikistan. We hope all our guides inspire you and your customers to keep travelling.
Donald Greig Managing Director
The Bradt Story Hilary Bradt and her then husband George wrote their first guide on a river barge floating down a tributary of the Amazon in 1973. Hilary Bradt now lives in semiretirement in Devon. She was awarded an MBE in 2008.

NEW TITLES FOR 2013 – TRAVEL NARRATIVES
Travel Narratives Bradt travel narratives are perfect for those who want to indulge in the wider travel experience without leaving the comfort of their armchair. Full of life, adventure, colour and personality, the books are from first-time writers and renowned specialists. See page 23 for a complete listing.
A Tourist in the Arab Spring Tom Chesshyre In the aftermath of the Arab Spring, war reporters rushed to publish accounts of the uprising. Tom Chesshyre took a different approach - he jumped on a plane and became the first to return to the region as a tourist. The result is the fascinating, street-level tale of a lay traveller's journey through lands fresh from revolution. Chesshyre heads for tourist sites that few have seen in recent years, as well as new 'attractions' like Gaddafi's bombedout bunker. In a book both touching and humorous, he also describes being abducted in Libya, listening to the sound of Kalashnikovs at night and talking to ordinary people struggling to get by. ■

Dingle Peggy Further travels on horseback through Ireland Hilary Bradt Hilary continues her journey on horseback, described in Connemara Mollie, through south west Ireland. With her new pony, Peggy, she travels from the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, down the coast of County Cork, before turning inland through Counties Waterford, Tipperary and Limerick. The story is both a portrait of Ireland and its people in 1984 and of the growing affection between the author and her pony. Both confront their fears: Peggy was used to pulling a cart and hated going cross country, while Hilary’s confidence was shattered by her experience in the mountains of Kerry with Mollie. But all ends well. • A sequel to Connemara Mollie, published in 2012 • For horse lovers, travel enthusiasts and the Irish 2

Madagascar: The Eighth Continent
The Leopard's Tale Jonathan & Angie Scott Almost everyone on safari hopes for a glimpse of the charismatic and elusive leopard. Chui was the first of a new generation of leopards Jonathan Scott watched and photographed in Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve in the 1970s and 1980s. His classic account tells the story of the mother leopard as a solitary hunter providing for herself and her offspring. He records encounters with baboon, hyaena and man, hazards facing the cubs as they learn to fend for themselves as well as periods of play and relaxation. Some years after Chui disappeared, a young female appeared, Half-Tail. Jonathan and Angela have followed her and her daughter Zawadi for the past twenty years, bringing the story up to date. ■

The landscape varies from dense forest to miles of open heath land and coastal roads while the villages have distinct characters ranging from Lymington with a yachting flavour to Burley with its history of witchcraft. The author outlines the workings of the New Forest, how grazing animals have shaped the land for centuries and how the commoning system functions. ...take the road less travelled “Our books are as much travelogues as travel guides, infused with the personal voice and accounts of each author.” Hilary Bradt, Founder Each Bradt book draws out the aspects and features of a destination that make it special, allowing authors to indulge their individual passions. Our attention to quality has brought many awards.
