Driver: [on phone] There‘s a hundred-thousand streets in this city. You don‘t need to know the route. You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. Anything happens in that five minutes and I‘m yours.

9

No matter what. Anything happens a minute either side of that and you‘re on your own. Do you understand?

Daria: There‘s a thousand sides to everything - not just heroes and villains. So anyway...so anyway...

so anyway... so anyway ought to be one word. Like a place or a river. „So Anyway River.“

14 Soul Coughing (music) Screenwriters Blues Exits to freeways wisted like knots on the fingers jewels cleaving skin between breasts. Your Cadillac breathes four hundred horses over blue lines you are going to Reseda to make love to a model from Ohio whose real name you don‘t know you spin like the cadillac was overturning down a cliff on television and the radio is on and the radioman is speaking and the radioman says women were a curse so men built Paramount studios and men built Columbia studios and men built Los Angeles it is 5 am and you are listening to Los Angeles And the radioman says it is a beautiful night out there! And the radioman says Rock and Roll lives! And the radioman says it is a beautiful night out there in Los Angeles you live in Los Angeles and you are going to Reseda; we are all in some way or another going to Reseda someday to die and the radioman laughs because the radioman fucks a model too

Gone savage for teenagers with automatic weapons and boundless love gone savage for teenagers who are aesthetically pleasing in other words fly Los Angeles beckons the teenagers to come to her on buses; Los Angeles loves love it is 5 am and you are listening to Los Angeles I am going to Los Angeles to built a screenplay about lovers who murder each other I am going to Los Angeles to see my own name on a screen, five feet long and luminous as the radioman says it is 5 am and the sun has charred the other side of the world and come back to us and painted the smoke over our heads an imperial violet it is 5 am and you are listening to Los Angeles. You are listening. You are listening. You are listening. You are listening.

In her California Calling series, Christine Schulz superimposes travel experiences with memories from films. Using video and overhead projections she combines personal shoots with film stills from true classics such as Vertigo or Zabriskie Point. The artist makes use of walls, ceilings and architectural characteristics of the exhibition space as a large-format projection surface. Simple constructs of found OSB boards give the room additional structure. Besides the multimedia installation Schulz shows photo collages, that take up the basic motive of ‚media images‘, which she breaks up, strips off their specific context and puts them into new, artificial arrangements.

Christine Schulz explores in her work the relationship between image and reality and how they influence each other. Images document as well as create reality. Constants, certainties, realities seem increasingly cursory in a society over-flooded by media production in spin cycle. Schulz illustrates this fleetingness by means of light projections and her multi-layer superimpositions, refractions and sequencing, include the viewer into a sensually perceivable space of imagery. Christine Schulz studied Fine Arts at the HBK Braunschweig with John Armleder, Birgit Hein and Thomas Virnich and graduated in 2003 as master student of John Armleder.

In 2001 she was awarded the Förderpreis der Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven and received a grant at the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede in 2004. In 2013 she received an artist in residence grant of the Künstlerhaus Bremen. Her work has been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions, e.g. at Kunstverein Hannover, Kunstverein Wolfenbüttel, Kunstverein Erfurt, Kunstverein Leverkusen Schloss Morsbroich, Kölnischen Kunstverein, at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and at the Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin. She has exhibited internationally - inter alia - in Lissabon, Mexico City and New York.

In 2013 she took part in the group exhibition SCHAUPLATZ STADT at Kunstmuseum Mülheim a.d.R. And she displayed her installation GODSPEED in a solo show at the Deutschter Künstlerbund project space, Berlin. Most recently, the Kunstverein Bochum presented one of her installations on the Emscher Kunst 2013 exhibition. The art of Christine Schulz has been discussed in different publications, e.g. Kunst baut Stadt , Christine Nippe, 2011; fast forward 2 , Sammlung Goetz, Ingvild Goetz (ed.), 2010; PARKHAUS , Karl-Heinz Rummeny (ed.), 2013
