Late Laughs

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

Since Musk took over [Twitter], advertisers have fled the platform, but he has a plan to replace all that lost revenue: start charging users $8 a month for a blue checkmark. ... Musk defended the change, tweeting “Widespread verification will democratize journalism.” Yes, soon you’ll

be able to get your news from a wide variety of sources — everyone from The New York Times to the equally qualified @ patriotfootlover420.

One day [after implementing a new check mark system], Twitter rolled back the grey check marks, with Musk tweeting that he wants blue checks to “be the great leveler.” Oh, don’t worry,

Elon, I’m pretty sure you’re going to level Twitter.

Poll results have raised concerns that democratic erosion may have sent many citizens on a downward spiral of feeling powerless, apathetic and disconnected. Yeah, but what can you do? It doesn’t matter. I don’t want to think about it.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Apparently [Donald] Trump blamed Melania for convincing him to back Dr. Oz, saying that it wasn’t her “best decision.” Then Melania was like, “Well, it certainly wasn’t my worst.”

I saw that in 2024 the Summer Olympics — they just unveiled their mascot. And it is a hat. ... Honestly,

the only thing that mascot doesn’t look like is a hat. It looks like a holiday-themed poop emoji.

For both parties, it [the election] wasn’t great, but also not terrible. It was the political equivalent of eating at TGI Friday’s.

A man in the U.K. was just arrested for throwing eggs at King Charles. Yup, some of the eggs shattered on the ground, and, this is tragic, but it’s been reported that all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put them back together again.

A Southwest Airlines pilot proposed to his girlfriend over the PA system during a flight — and then the flight attendant was like, “If you want to say no, the exits are located here and here.”

[SAT] Test sheets flew out of a UPS truck. The students should have known this was going to happen because one of the questions on the test was, “If a UPS truck is driving at 50 miles per hour with the trunk open ...”

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

A Netflix subscription with commercials is $3 a month cheaper than the basic subscription without. It’s funny, most kids today don’t know what commercials are.

... I don’t think that’s healthy. By the time you’re 10 years old, you should know the Pillsbury Dough Boy, you should know the

Michelin Man, you should know the mentally ill Cocoa Puffs bird. ... It’s part of being American.

Late Night With Seth Meyers

Authorities in New York arrested a mother after she allegedly allowed her 10-year-old son to get a tattoo. Worse, the tattoo was to celebrate one year without a cigarette. You’ll think about it on the way home and like it more.

“Sex Education” - Season 4

The teens are back for one final adventure when the fourth and final season of the cult-favorite British comedy-drama, “Sex Education,” premieres on Netflix, Thursday, Sept. 21. With Moordale Secondary now closed, Otis (Asa Butterfield, “Flux Gourmet,” 2022) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa, “Barbie,” 2023) must take on their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. While Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, Eric is just hoping they won’t be losers again; so the culture shock that hits them when they get to their new, incredibly progressive college is on another level. Meanwhile, Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu, “The School for Good and Evil,” 2022) is “totally thrown by the college’s studentled, non-competitive approach, while Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling, “Wolfblood”) is still struggling to get over Cal (new talent Dua Saleh). Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood, “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain,” 2021) tries something new by taking an Art A-Level and Adam (Connor Swindells, “Rogue Heroes”) grapples with whether mainstream education is for him” (per Netflix). Over in the U.S., Maeve (Emma Mackey, “Emily,” 2022) is living out her dream at the prestigious Wallace University, and Otis is still pining for her. Created and written by Laurie Nunn (“Radiance,” 2013), the series also stars Gillian Anderson (“The X Files”), Alistair Petrie (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” 2016), Mimi Keene (“EastEnders”) and Samantha Spiro (“London Spy”).

“Spy Kids: Armageddon” (2023)

A new generation of spy kids takes on the world in the franchise reboot film “Spy Kids: Armageddon,” premiering Friday, Sept. 22, on Netflix. Tony (relative newcomer Connor Esterson, “Chad”) and Patty TangoTorrez (Everly Carganilla, “The Afterparty”) are the children of the world’s greatest secret agents. When they unwittingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control over all technology, the kids must become spies themselves to help save their parents and the world. While Zachary Levi (“Chuck”) and Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”) play their parents, Terrence and Nora, Billy Magnussen (“No Time to Die,” 2021) is the diabolical new villain Rey “The King” Kingston. Directed by Robert Rodriguez (“Sky Kids: Mission Critical”) and written by Robert Rodriguez and Racer Rodriguez (“The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D,” 2005), “Sky Kids: Armageddon” is executive produced by Gary Barber (“Waco: The Aftermath”), Peter Oillataguerre (“Scream VI,” 2023) and Ben Ormand (“The Out-Laws,” 2023).

“American Horror Story: Delicate” - Part 1

Returning this fall with an entrancing and terrifying new tale, Part 1 of “American Horror Story: Delicate” premieres Thursday, Sept. 21, on Hulu. Heading into its 12th season, the horror anthology series from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (creators of “Glee” and “Pose”) is adapting its latest story from Danielle Valentine’s book “Delicate Condition.” While the series is notoriously close-lipped about plotlines, the book’s synopsis may provide viewers with a peek at what is to come. Revolving around talented actress Anna Alcott (Emma Roberts, “Scream Queens”), the story follows along as she becomes convinced that someone is determined to prevent her from conceiving a child. Through a series of trials and tragedies, Anna is plagued by a baby no one believes in but herself. This season’s cast includes Cara Delevingne (“Only Murders in the Building”), Matt Czuchry (“The Resident”), Michaela Jaé (MJ) Rodriguez (“Pose”), Kim Kardashian (“The Kardashians”), Julie White (“Transformers,” 2007), Debra Monk (“New Amsterdam”) and Annabelle Dexter-Jones (“Succession”).

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” - Season 24

The 24th season of the crime drama “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” will be available to stream on Hulu as of Friday, Sept. 22. Mariska Hargitay (“Lake Placid,” 1999) stars as Captain Olivia Benson, who leads a squad of NYPD detectives as they try to solve cases ripped straight from real-life headlines. During this season of the series, showrunner Warren Leight (“Shelter,” 2017) was replaced by David Graziano (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”), giving this 22-episode season a fresh new perspective. Season 24 also welcomes Molly Burnett (“Queen of the South”) as Junior Detective Grace Muncy, and sees the return of some beloved actors, including: Kelli Giddish (“The Brief Tragedy of Ernest Carter,” 2019), Ice-T (“New Jack City,” 1991), Peter Scanavino (“Frances Ha,” 2012), Octavio Pisano (“Ms. Purple,” 2019) and more.

“Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of Secret Invasion”

Explore all the hard work and Marvel Magic that went into the making of the limited series “Secret Invasion” when the newest installment of “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 20, on Disney+. Uncovering how the series came into being through in-depth interviews with cast and crew, and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, fans can get up close and personal with Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction,” 1994) as he brings “the most baffling battle of Nick Fury’s career” to life (per Disney+). Set in the present-day MCU (Phase 5), “Secret Invasion” follows Nick Fury as he learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Joining up with his allies — including Everett Ross (Martin Freeman, “Black Panther,” 2018), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders, “How I Met Your Mother”) and the Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” 2016), who has made a life for himself on Earth — Fury and the team race against time to thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity. Created by Kyle Bradstreet (“Mr. Robot”) and directed by Ali Selim (“In Treatment”), the series also stars Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Olivia Colman (“Great Expectations”), Carmen Ejogo (“Your Honor”), Christopher McDonald (“The Watcher”), Kingsley Ben-Adir (“The OA”) and Killian Scott (“Damnation”).

“PJ Masks: Power Heroes” - Season 1, New Episodes Catboy, Owlette and Gekko return, as five new episodes from Season 1 of “PJ Masks: Power Heroes” make their way to Disney+, available to stream as of Wednesday, Sept. 20. The latest offshoot of the highly popular “PJ Masks” franchise, this series features the original Power heroes (Catboy, Owlette and Gekko), while also introducing a slate of new ones, together creating a bigger and better team. The Power Heroes need all the help they can get, too, as Disney has promised some exciting adventures and brand-new bad guys to boot. A recent press release states: “Our heroes will take [villains] on in the City, space and the frozen wilderness of Iceworld. Step into the world of wrestling superstardom when the new biographical drama “Cassandro” premieres Friday, Sept. 22, on Prime Video. Gael García Bernal (“Mozart in the Jungle”) stars in the film as Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, Texas. Rising to international stardom after creating the character Cassandro, the “Liberace of Lucha Libre,” Armendáriz upended the macho wrestling world — and his own life. Based on a true story, “Cassandro” is directed by Roger Ross Williams (“Love to Love You, Donna Summer,” 2023) and written by Williams and David Teague (“Between the World and Me,” 2020). Roberta Colindrez (“A League of Their Own”), Perla De La Rosa (“A Thousand Clouds of Peace,” 2003), Joaquín Cosío (“Quantum of Solace,” 2008) and Raúl Castillo (“Miguel Wants to Fight,” 2023) also star, with special appearances from El Hijo del Santo (“Santo: Infraterrestre,” 2001) and Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, aka Bad Bunny (“Bullet Train,” 2022).

“Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant” (2023) With a 98 percent audience score on the film review aggregate site, Rottentomatoes, Guy Ritche’s “The Covenant” makes its streaming debut Friday, Sept. 22, on Prime Video. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal (“Nightcrawler,” 2014) and Dar Salim (“The Devil’s Double,” 2011), this 2023 action thriller was written, produced and directed by Ritchie (“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” 2015), grossing nearly $21 million in theaters before heading for the small screen. The film follows Special Forces Master Sergeant John Kinley (Gyllenhaal), a Green Beret, and his Afghan interpreter, Ahmed Abdullah (Salim), as Kinley and his troops fight the Taliban amidst the War in Afghanistan in 2018. When the sergeant is injured, Abdullah risks his own life and must carry the man across miles of grueling, mountainous terrain – on foot – in order to return to the safety of the unit’s airbase. A merciless journey, “The Covenant” also stars Sean Sagar (“The Gentlemen,” 2019), Jason Wong (“Solo: A Star Wars Story,” 2018), Rhys Yates (“Unforgotten”), Christian Ochoa Lavernia (“Silo”), Bobby Schofield (“Black Sea,” 2014), Emily Beecham (“Daphne,” 2017), Jonny Lee Miller (“The Crown”), Alexander Ludwig (“The Hunger Games,” 2012), Reza Diako (“London Class”), Gary Stennette (“Styx”), Abbas Fasaei (“Familie”) and more.
