Participate in Grandpa’s Run for the Walleye 5K on July 2

T

he 25th annual Grandpa’s 5K Run for the Walleye will take place Saturday, July 2, in Crosslake. Grandpa’s Run for the Walleye is a signature event of the Crosslake Fourth of July celebration. The event, based at the Crosslake Community Center, will begin with the 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m., culminating with the Kids Sunfish Dash at 9:45 a.m. Due to road construction closing streets normally used for the race, the 5K race will not be conducted on the certified course, but it will be professionally chip timed. Organizers anticipate the 10K race will return in 2023 after road construction is completed. Online registration is available by following the Run for the Walleye quick link at www.wapoa.org. Participants can also sign up and pick up race packets from 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 1, at

the community center. Race day registration will be open from 7:30-8:15 a.m. Registration cost for the 5K is $35. The registration fee for the Kids Sunfish Dash (up to age 10) is $7. The Whitefish Area Property Owners Association sponsors the race and uses race proceeds to benefit fish habitat in the Whitefish Chain of Lakes.

Crosslake Library to host book sale July 1-2 The Crosslake Area Library will hold its Fourth of July book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 1-2, at the Crosslake Community Center.

Fireworks to launch July 2 on Cross Lake

T

he 52nd annual Celebrate America fireworks show in Crosslake will take place shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, July 2, launched from Sand Island on the south end of Cross Lake. Tune into 101.5FM to hear patriotic music simulcast to the fireworks. Watch the show from the water or from the shores of Cross Lake. Also taking place Saturday, July 2, are Grandpa’s Run for the Walleye 5K and Kids Sunfish Dash starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Crosslake Community Center and outdoor music in the park featuring Brothers Tone from 6-8 p.m. in Crosslake Town Square. The Crosslake Area Library will hold its Fourth of July book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 1-2, at the Crosslake Community Center.

Fireworks, carnival are new offerings after Freedom Days Parade

he 13th annual Nisswa Firecracker Run - offering a 5K, 10K and Kids Run - will start at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 3, on Main Street in Nisswa. This event is known for its laid-back atmosphere; comfortable event shirts; crawfish boil; free beer from New Belgium, Paulaner and Pabst Blue Ribbon; a Red, White, and Blue foam party; and a Slip’N’Slide finish line. Families have made this a great tradition on their Fourth of July weekend. The courses are spectator friendly with scenic views from Main Street to the nearby peaceful wooded roads and trails. Lakes Area Artists’ exhibit, sale set July 1-2

L

akes Area Artists, a group of professional central Minnesota area artists, will hold their annual fine art show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 1-2, at the Journey Church in downtown Nisswa. Admission is free. The group has been exhibiting for over 23 years in the area, with an evolving and changing configuration of specialized artists.

Stars & Stripes Days offers food, bean bags, parades and fireworks

Fire district to serve pancake breakfast July 4

T

he Pequot Lakes Fire District will host its annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Monday, July 4, at the Pequot Lakes Fire Hall (4638 Main St.). The pancake breakfast is a chance for people to meet their local firefighters, tour the fire hall and check out all of the trucks - including the new tanker, “The Beast,” and a new tender. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Cost is $10 for adults, $7 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under age 5.

Library to host book sale June 30-July 3

T

he annual book sale at the Pequot Lakes Library will take place starting from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 30, with a preview party for Friends of the Library members (with a $20 minimum donation). The sale will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 1-2. The final day will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 3, with a half-price book sale. This is always a popular sale and a good way to stock up on summer and winter reading material. Library members thank everyone who donated books for the sale and who come in to view and purchase books. This is the library’s major fundraiser each year.

he Brainerd Fourth of July parade will be at 6 p.m. Monday, July 4. This year’s theme is “A Salute to Service” with a special focus on the 80th anniversary of Bataan. Fireworks will be at 10:15 p.m. at Don Adamson Field at Brainerd High School.

T

he Crosby Fire Department will sponsor the Crosby-Ironton Fourth of July parade at 11 a.m. Monday, July 4. Join the crowd at Crosby Memorial Park after the parade to enjoy live music, food vendors, a beer garden and other items of interest. Fireworks will be at dusk over Serpent Lake in Crosby.

Declaration of Independence to be read July 4

T

he annual Reading of the Declaration of Independence will be at 9 a.m. Monday, July 4, at Fairfield Town Hall, which is located approximately 15 miles north of Crosby or 5 miles south of Emily on Highway 6, just north of the intersection of State Highway 6 and County Road 36. Start the holiday by acknowledging the document that declared our independence as a nation no longer under colonial rule. There will also be a short program of patriotic readings and music with light refreshments to follow.
