CHANNEL GUIDE
WHAT’S NEW ON HULU “The Dropout”
Follow along with the true story of a business venture gone wrong with “The Dropout,” the new miniseries premiering Thursday, March 3, on Hulu. Based on the podcast of the same name by Emmy-winning journalist Rebecca Jarvis and ABC Audio, this biographical drama chronicles the true story of the rapid rise and fall of American biotechnology entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes and her company Theranos. Holmes, portrayed in the series by Amanda Seyfried (“Les Misérables,” 2010), dropped out of Stanford University to pursue a promising business prospect with a new and potentially revolutionary blood-testing technology. Building her company quickly, unforeseen complications with the product and Elizabeth’s actions led to the fall of Theranos and a massive fraud lawsuit. Created and written by Jarvis with fellow ABC news producers Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson (both of “GameStopped,” 2021), “The Dropout” is directed by Michael Showalter (“Search Party”), Francesca Gregorini (“The Truth About Emanuel,” 2013) and Erica Watson (“Snowpiercer”). The series also stars Anne Archer (“Fatal Attraction,” 1987), Michaela Watkins (“Wanderlust,” 2012), Naveen Andrews (“Lost”), Utkarsh Ambudkar (“Ghosts”), Michael Ironside (“Top Gun,” 1986), Michel Gill (“Mr. Robot”), Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”), Elizabeth Marvel
(“True Grit,” 2010), William H. Macy (“Shameless”), Kurtwood Smith (“That ‘70s Show”), Sam Waterston (“Law & Order”), Stephen Fry (“Gosford Park,” 2001) and Kevin Sussman (“Burn After Reading,” 2008).

When she meets mysteriously intriguing Steve (Sebastian Stan, “Pam & Tommy”) at a store, she takes a chance on love and gives him her number. Smitten with a guy who seems to be everything she wants, Noa soon finds out that her new love interest is hiding some unusual appetites.
Directed by Mimi Cave (“Vessel,” 2015) and written by Lauryn Kahn (“Ibiza,” 2018), “Fresh” also stars Jojo T. Gibbs (“Twenties”), Andrea Bang (“Kim’s Convenience”), Dayo Okeniyi (“Queenpins,” 2021), Charlotte Le Bon (“The HundredFoot Journey,” 2014) and Brett Dier (“Jane the Virgin”).

“Against the Ice” (2022)
Learn the harrowing true story of Denmark’s Alabama Expedition with “Against the Ice,” premiering on Netflix Thursday, March 3. Based on the memoir by explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen, this historical drama follows Mikkelsen (Nikolaj CosterWaldau, “Game of Thrones”) in
1909 as he leads the expedition across Greenland’s frozen landscape with his cohort, Iver Iversen (Joe Cole, “Peaky Blinders”). Bound and determined to prove that Greenland is not two separate pieces of land to prevent America from staking a claim on the country’s North Eastern land, the pair embark upon the perilous and seemingly hopeless mission to find the proof they need to support their claims. Battling against incredible odds, the pair fight to make their way out alive. Written for the screen by Coster-Waldau and new talent Joe Derrick, “Against the Ice” is directed by Peter Flinth (“Arn: The Knight Templar,” 2007).
