Our Area Grows with the Company it Keeps
My name is Madalyn Jo Young — this is my story By MADALYN JO YOUNG As told to Jennifer Stockinger, staff writer
they do everything for me. My mom says that ever since I came around things have been pretty busy. She told that newspaper girl that day: “Everyone says everything is twice as busy with two, but it has to be 10 times as busy. They’re always into something. The house is always a mess.” Do you think that my mom was talking about me and my brother? I don’t know. The only things I haven’t mentioned yet about my spectacular life is food, first words and sleep. I like to eat lots of different things. I am proud to say I have six teeth so far. I can’t wait to get more so I can eat more of the fun, gooey things my mom and dad eat. I pretty much eat anything that is given to me. I really like pickles. My first words were “Hi” and I also say “Dada” and “Mama.” I can’t wait to learn more words and to expand my vocabulary. I sleep pretty much through the night and I take a nap so I’m ready to go full speed ahead for the rest of the day. So I guess, my life is great and I can’t wait to see what the year 2011 will bring or for that matter the rest of my years ahead. Maybe I’ll have to write one of those blogs people talk about so everyone can read about me. How awesome would that be?! Oh wait, don’t stop reading yet, I just had a thought. So on my next birthday will I turn 2 on 2/02/22? But my birthday is New Year’s Day and that is in January. Oh, I am so confused. Maybe someday my birthdays will be unique again.
I keep hearing people say that I am going to turn 1 on Jan. 1, 2011, or 1/01/11. People say that is pretty cool, but all I know is that it’s a whole lot of ones. That means I came into this world 12 months ago after being in my mom’s belly for nine months. Wouldn’t that make me 21 months old, then? I don’t know and how would I know? I have a lot to learn. My parents, Ashley Gabrick and Brandon Young of Garrison, and my 21/2-year-old brother, Andrew, have taught me a lot this first year and I know they’ll continue to teach me a whole lot more. I guess when it comes to life, we learn as we go and by physically doing things for ourselves. And that is what I’ve been doing. I’ve been trying to walk for awhile now, but have only been successful a few times. I took 10 steps once, thank you very much. I know eventually I will learn to walk because really, have you ever seen an adult crawl? But from what I know now, I can crawl much faster than walking to get to my favorite toy or doll. If you ask my mom and dad they would say that I like to crawl real fast to play with the TV remote, cell phones and cameras. But who wouldn’t want to play with them? All those buttons and lights, it is fun that never ends. But, more importantly (yeah, that’s a big word!), I like to chase my brother. I just love him. I know my brother loves me too because he always says, “I love my baby sister.” He likes to tickle me and that makes me laugh. We also like to play “So Big.” My brother has all these play guns we play with. Don’t worry, guns sound bad, but my brother makes them out of fun things like Legos or blocks. I have to admit, my first year of life has been pretty easy. If I cry or if I have a wet diaper (which is all the time), my parents are there to calm me down or change my diaper. It’s pretty sweet. I don’t plan to be potty trained for awhile. I don’t have time to run to the JENNIFER STOCKINGER may be bathroom when I’m playing. It would reached at jennifer.stockinger@brainbe annoying. erddispatch.com or 855-5851. I’m a pretty happy baby and my parBrainerd Dispatch/Kelly Humphrey ents can verify that. I get shy when I Madalyn Jo Young smiled at her home in Garrison. Madalyn, the daughter of Ashley meet new people. One day a few weeks Gabrick and Brandon Young, was the first baby born in Crow Wing County in 2010 ago, these two girls came to my house and she will turn 1 on New Year’s Day. and one of them had this enormous camera and she took lots of photos of me and my family. The light from the flash was really bright and I wanted to play with it, but I couldn’t. My mom said these girls were from the Brainerd Dispatch newspaper. I’m not sure really what that means, but they took a lot of photos and asked a lot of questions about me. My mom and dad told the girl with the notebook that I love kisses and I like to cuddle and that all is true. My parents also said that my brother and I were spoiled, but I don’t know what that means. They said if I get mad I stomp my feet on the ground. Well, I admit I have done that a time or two. But anyway, I hope my pictures turn out nice. The last time I had my picture taken was with Santa and I didn’t know what to do. I just sat there, with no smile. I mean, seriously, this guy in the big red suit brings toys to all the good boys and girls? I was amazed. I’m hoping to get a dollhouse for Christmas. I was told I will get even more gifts on New Year’s Day — my birthday. Wow! I’m just content being with Brainerd Dispatch/Kelly Humphrey my family whom I love Ashley Gabrick and Brandon Young recently watched as their son Andrew tickled his little sister Madalyn Jo Young at their very much. home in Garrison. Madalyn was the first baby born in Crow Wing County in 2010 and she will turn 1 on New Year’s Day. My family is great and
