1. MISSION The Math Thru Music (MTM) mandate is to engage, educate and encourage students to gain a greater understanding of math using the music they love. Students quickly see algebra, fractions, decimals, percentages and much more embedded into the music they listen to every day.


2. MATH THRU MUSIC & BE MORE STEAM PARTNERSHIP Math Thru Music is pleased to announce the partnership between MTM and B.E.M.O.R.E.S.T.E.M. (an acronym for Bringing Everyone More Opportunities and Relevant Experiences in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics). BE MORE STEM increases creative thinking and confidence within students. Attendance and graduation rates as well as daily academic performance are all increased as a result of this innovative programming.


3. THE MTM KIT The MTM kit consists of all the hardware and software needed to run the Math Thru Music program without the assistance of an instructor. Students can practice their math and DJing skills at the same time, anytime. When a school brings an MTM kit into their culture, many times inspire spinoff clubs and groups form within a school. Students look for outlets to practice and perform. The culture of the school is always positively transformed.

THE MTM CURRICULUM The lessons found in the MTM curriculum include the following: - Upper/Lower Limits and Range - Expanding the Range/Tempo Percentages - Working with Percentages - Rhythm Engineering - Multiplication, Decimals, Rounding & Place Value - Rhythm Engineering - Division - Ratios - Part to Whole Comparisons - Ratios - Part to Part Comparisons - Algebra ‌and much much more


4. STUDENT ASSEMBLIES This unique session engages young people on an intellectual and emotional level; clearly demonstrating how relevant math is in their daily lives. Using DJing as a hook; students see their regular curriculum brought to life using their favorite music in a way they’ll never forget.

ISSUES COVERED: multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, fractions and ratios. *Recommended for grades 4-9.


5. WEEKLY PROGRAMMING The weekly program is run by an authorized Math Thru Music instructor. Each week students will have the opportunity to practice, math concepts as well as DJ techniques in a fun and nurturing environment. The program allows up to 25 students the chance to receive one-on-one instruction. The instructor brings in an entire MTM lab for students to practice on.

7. ACADEMIC AUTHENTICATION Sasha brings extensive experience and academic excellence to Math Thru Music and the Go Create It organization. As Director of Research, Sasha is invaluable in ensuring that all programming is grounded in science. Sasha is an evidenced based neurobehavioral researcher currently working out of the Center for Science & Law (scilaw.org); a lab overseen by Dr. David Eagleman. Eagleman is a New York Times bestselling author and adjunct professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. Sasha has been Honored as a Ronald E. McNair Scholar, she earned a BA in Forensic Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, with a concentration in philosophy from Harvard University. Her research on neuropsychology and warfare has been presented at the U.S. Military Academy at Westpoint and submitted for publications.


GOVERNMENT STUDY A recent study published by the Minister of Education (Ontario) demonstrated the effectiveness of the MTM program. The graphic (left) outlines a province-wide study among grade students. Between 2012 and 2017, Provincial scores remained stagnant at 44%. Board of Education scores declined from 45% in 2012 to 39% in 2017. However, Chinguacousy Secondary School saw a dramatic increase in students’ scores. They went from 28% in 2012 to 69% in 2017. Chinguacousy introduced the MTM program and credits the concepts and methods as the predominant reason for increased success. “We introduced the Math Thru Music DJ program into our classrooms and the kids will never be the same. Their interest in mathematics increased dramatically and once they were engaged; their test scores improved. I can’t say enough about the innovative way that MTM turns kids on to Math.” D.
