It is a single-family house intended for occasional or vacation use. The plot is located in the north of Galicia, with privileged views towards the Ria de Pontedeume. The main floor of the house contains the living area. The upper floor basically houses the garage from which you access the main floor through the stairs.

Constructively, the house is made of a reinforced concrete wall with an exposed finish. The main floor of the house is made of concrete joists and vaults, while the the first floor would be a concrete slab. The roof is resolved with a zinc solution, under which we find sandwich panels, which are supported by wooden beams that go from wall to wall. The exterior walls are insulated from the inside with rock wool and are finished in plaster.

The spatial composition of the main floor is clear: on one side we have the rooms that are accessed through a corridor with built-in cabinets. The central space of the house would be occupied by the living room-dining room-kitchen and finally we would have an accessory area with toilet, laundry and built-in furniture for storage and the access to the garage on the upper level through a staircase.

The fixed window frames are made with steel profiles. The doors and the practicable windows will be in wood. Structurally, it is worth highlighting the large 25-meter concrete beam on the main façade that has punctual supports in Heb 100

II. Housing Rehab in Fondodevila

The competition was based on the rehabilitation of a set of ruined vernacular houses located in the Ribeira Sacra for the use of local inhabitants, especially young families.

This would imply in any case a typological change since the bases raised more houses of the existing single-family big houses of traditional Galician construction in wall of stone masonry. Six housesholds are proposed, with the intention of being able to adapt them to the pre-existing gaps that remain between the walls of the houses in ruins.

In this sense we find three holes of similar dimensions, in which there are three prefabricated houses, typologically the same, whose only difference will be the composition in the façade, that will be given by the holes in the existing walls, and the re-thinking of the patios.

The other three houses will be the result of the adaptation to more irregular holes and shapes and their typologies will be more adaptive.

4 Housing Rehabilitation in Fondodevila | 2017 | Competition

Located in Bairro Alto, Lisbon, the project consist in a rehabilitation of and old 3 stories vernacular house, adding two more levels, providing three one-bedroom apartments plus a duplex in the last levels.

The ancient building, probably from the end of the XIX century, had a structure formed by masonry load-bearing walls, wooden floors and a tile roof also supported by a wooden structure. On the facade, a traditional portuguese tiling that will be preserved and then placed on the new façade.

The new structure of concrete walls, that will increase in two levels the original one, It will replace in some points the damaged masonry structure and in others as in the main façade ,that has to be maintained by law, it will reinforce it in order to be conserved.

The floors will be renovated as well with composite slabs formed by grooved metallic sheets and concrete in order to obtain a slab of little thickness and very light weight, which will allow us to comply with the regulations applied on total height of the building in this protected area of Lisbon, besides do not overload the existing walls.

The Provincial Prison of A Coruña, near the Tower of Hercules, is a unique building that housed the old penitentiary center of said city. Built between 1925 and 1927 following the project of Juan Álvarez de Mendoza, comissioned by the General Directorate of Prisons, in collaboration with the municipal architect Pedro Mariño. During the Franco dictatorship, it housed dozens of political prisoners such as the last Republican Mayor of the city, the Civilian Governor and other authorities. It was open until 1997.

The idea is to carry out a project that makes the most of the existing construction, adapting it to current regulations in order to achieve the necessary level of comfort that a project of these characteristics needs; It is a project that must necessarily be cheap and must also seem cheap, in the sense that the public perceives it as a simple and practical intervention, the result of an exhaustive study, which does not respond to formal whims and is approached with design humility. and constructive in order to solve specific uses in the most logical way.

The use that a building with a past of these characteristics can have is always controversial, so a teaching use has been sought, which in some way exercises a parallelism with the re.igenerative character that a penitentiary institution could represent. . however, the type of interventions that are carried out do not invalidate other possible uses that the building may have if the proposed one does not work out. It is not a closed program.

The rehabilitation consists of condensing the new building necessary in the lower patios, for constructive conveniences due to its size and the existing perimeter structure. The upper courtyards are emptied of some buildings with less patrimonial value (leaving their mark) to open a series of public spaces, 2 squares, one of them as an access with a more formal character and a hard pavement and another more intended for events like Concerts, theater, etc. with grass as pavement. Both patios connect with the perimeter walk (old guard yard) that connects in turn with the perimeter trails to the parcel. For it, the old wall is demolished being blazed with the adjacent land.

The project is divided into 3 programmes; A municipal auditorium with a capacity of 400 people with changing rooms and rehearsal rooms; It is located in the lower right courtyard, A school of cinematography and production [ECP] that has several recording sets, workshops, classrooms and changing rooms, occupies the entire upper part of the plot. An interpretation school (ESAD) with classrooms, a multipurpose room and its own changing rooms. It would be planted around the lower left patio. These three programmes share the same center and will be called to confluence and collaborate.

Level +0.00: Two of the fundamental parts of the program; To the right is the main municipal auditorium, with its changing rooms, warehouses, control rooms and image and sound control rooms, etc. On the right side is the ESAD, with its classrooms for interpretation, its multipurpose room with changing rooms and toilets. Dividing both programs there is an access hall that connects in its final section with the stairs to reach the upper level of the plot.

Level + 3.47 to +4.40m; the slab on the upper level of the plot, where the ECP is based, is located at + 3.47 m above level 0 of the project; however, the upper floors of both the ESAD and the auditorium are almost a meter higher; this difference is bridged with a colliding ramp in the lower access hall. It is thus a matter of respecting the height of the slabs to the window openings that are already considerably high.

Level + 7.61m: we find the rest of the ECP classrooms on its left arm, artistic residences on the right and access to workshops and the upper part of the main set.

The structure is made up of vierendeel-type steel trusses and IPE-type steel straps for fastening a collaborating steel-concrete slab that adds mass to the auditorium enclosure. Once this structure is assembled, execution times are reduced, since we can continue working indoors.

The patio of seats and the stage are surrounded by a perimeter box and a false ceiling with acoustic conditioning that also are responsible for creating irregularities so that the reverberation is acceptable.

The air conditioning system regulates the humidity of the building,¡, especially it is essential in watertight ports such as the auditorium, having fixed carpentries and numerous ploting in watertight materials, such as galvanized steel, which on the other hand helps to avoid interstitial condensations to the functional like vapor barrier.
