“Do people still go to the Library?” This is a question I am asked pretty regularly when I tell folks I’m a librarian. If you’re reading this note, I’m counting on you being one of the hundreds of thousands of Bramptonians who do, indeed, still go to the Library. We are busier than ever and busier in so many different ways than in years gone by. As library users, you already know about our fabulous collection of bestsellers, in both print and eBook formats; the benefits of streaming music, movies and TV; our amazing MakerSpaces full of digital technologies and maybe you even know about our audio recording studio---everything free of charge and available to you 7 days a week with your Brampton Library card. Now here's our challenge: how do we spread the news about our amazing services, products, programs and our friendly, knowledgeable staff to those who still think of libraries as quiet, dusty relics of the past? One in every 4 Brampton residents has a library card that they use regularly. We’d like that number to be even higher. After all, we think we’re the best deal in town, supported by only 2 cents of every tax dollar. Let’s share the library love! Tell your friends and neighbours, or better yet, bring them along the next time you visit your favourite Brampton Library branch. Our new Southwest Branch (1-8405 Financial Drive) will be opening in 2019 to serve the growing community around Mississauga Rd. and Steeles Avenue in Brampton. Visit us online and stay tuned to social media for more details! bramptonlibrary.ca
