Branch closures

From the CEO

Brampton Library is proud to present its lineup of exciting and enriching programs for January to March 2023. As our 2023 – 2027 strategic plan says, our mission is to build an inclusive community by inspiring learning, literacy, and social cohesion. I invite you to learn about creative technology at one of our maker programs, to explore pre-literacy skills with your young child at one of our storytimes, and to connect with community members at one of our book clubs.

It is an exciting time for public libraries. Every day we hear how libraries are playing a role in helping communities recover from the pandemic by re-connecting them to the technology, skills, and enrichment that they need and want.

I invite you to find something here that inspires you. For assistance, speak to any of our helpful staff in person, by phone, or use the Chat feature on our website.

Happy browsing!

Sex Trafficking:

What do Parents Need to know?

19+ years

Sex traffickers do not see religion, colour, culture, faith, rich, poor, or education? Who do they target and what do they look like? How can you prepare your sons and daughters? Did you know:

• Canadian young people are extremely vulnerable to becoming victims of trafficking averaging 13 (grade 7) to 21 years in age

• Police-reported incidents of human-trafficking show:

• 96% of victims are women and girls

• 25% of victims are girls under the age of 18

• 45% are women aged 18 to 24

• The final report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls highlights the connection between trafficking for sexual exploitation and violence against Indigenous women and girls. The combination of social and economic issues resulting from colonialism make Indigenous women and girls more at risk of human trafficking.

A guest speaker from Peel Regional Police will share the information.

Thoughtful Textiles

This program will begin with an art activity related to textiles, whether it be knitting, macrame, handstitching, or embroidery. After one hour of handson learning and exploration of a textiles activity, the session will end with a half hour of relaxation. The therapeutic nature of art will be connected to meditation and aromatherapy for the last half hour of the session. A certified yoga instructor will lead the meditation.
