WELCOME my passion Welcome to my second passion: creating a digital magazine. You may remember years ago I wrote, created, edited, and published "Homebody Magazine". It was a magazine that featured my other passions: real estate and our Santa Cruz Community. Making a magazine takes a ton of creative energy and work. However, when it is a passion you don't even realize it's 2:00 am in the morning and you are still so full of energy and life. I was inspired to start another magazine to coincide with my new website www.yoursantacruzrealtors.com. In addition, 3 years ago I decided to partner with one of my best, most hardworking, and highly respected friends, Jason Crum. Getting momentum as a team was a challenge and we now have wind in our sales. The best thing about this partnership is we have a ton of fun. We take our jobs seriously, we are always striving to be our best, and find joy and laughter where ever we go. So here we are wrapping up 2019 and here is a preview of what is to come for 2020. Excited you are on this journey with me...us!

CURE FOR HOME WELLNESS IN WINTER BY JASON CRUM As a homeowner who has lived in many different climates and topography regions of Santa Cruz County including under the magestic redwoods to the fog laced coast line, there is one thing Santa Cruz County brings in the winter, and that is moisture!! Moisture comes from the massive rain fall, fog, and even rivers and streams. Let's just talk about the rain. The rain makes our county special with lush forests, rich farmlands, and beutiful rollling hill. However, it can wreak havic on houses, foundations, and hillsides to name the least. Trust me, talking about winterizing your home is the least sexy or fun thing to talk about, however it can save you tons of money by averting major damage, water intrusion, and/or landslides. If you follow these 3 steps before the rainy season, not only will you preserve the integrety of your home, but also keep money in your pocket by avoiding major repairs. So before you breakout the holiday lights this year consider doing the following items to help prep the property for winter. 1. Blow off roofs and gutters to keep them clear of debris that can clog downspouts during storms. While you are up there I would recommend taking a closer look to make sure everything is in proper working order. Things to look for include; rusted gutters, worn or torn shingles and nail heads sticking up from the shingles. (All of which can be caught early and addressed by a local contractor or handy-person) . 2. Pressure washing the house and gutters keep your house looking fresh and clean. This also lets you see what type of condition your paint and caulking are in. If you find sections that are starting to peel then this would be the time to address those issues before they become bigger problem. Dry-rot is the most common issue on siding that can be addressed if caught early. Dry-rot is caused when moisture penetrates wood surfaces that have paint peeling or lack proper caulking to seal the joints. (painting contractor or handy-person should be able to address these types of fixes) 3. Downspout drainage is a common issue in the this area. Downspouts require the right ground slope or drainage to keep water from settling near the foundation. Check to make sure the areas around each downspout slope away from the foundation in order to prevent settling or excessive moisture from building up. These are just a few things you can do to help extend the life of your home. Preventive maintenance is always less expensive than having to tackle a major remodel on something could have been addressed early on.
