Sale Format

In an effort to reduce stress on the sale cattle and ourselves, all cattle will be videoed and sold by a live auctioneer off of the video on sale day. We invite you to come early and take your time going through the pens prior to the sale.

Herd Health

All Four Starr cattle are from a certified free brucellosis and tuberculosis free state. The cattle have been vaccinated with IBR, BVD-2, PI3, BRSV(kld)-Vibrio-L5HB, BlackLeg Vision 7 & Pinkeye and treated with Long Range Injectable Dewormer and Corathon flytags. Missouri is officially classified as free of Brucellosis and TB. Cattle that will be crossing the border into Canada or Mexico will remain on the farm till proper health papers can be generated.

I warmly extend an invitation for you to attend our first production sale. Whether you are local or have traveled a long distance, we truly appreciate you taking time to attend and look forward to assisting you with your future Fleckvieh purchases. I’m sure a prerequisite to success in the cattle business is to believe in what you raise and always have an open minded approach. For the past 44 years we have had cattle on this farm and a few horses as well. I started out early by getting involved with 4-H and FFA in central Missouri. This led to my first purchase of cattle from a local breeder by the name of Cecil Anderson. He was a very kind and thoughtful person and set us in the right direction. We left his farm that day with 3 cows. I loved the cattle so much that I continued my education in the agriculture field and obtained a B.S in Animal Science from Missouri State University, a M.S. in animal breeding and genetics from Clemson University, and a DVM from the University of Missouri. Since then it has been over 35 years of breeding Simmentals and we have seen the tall legged Simmentals dominant early and then move into predominately black Simmentals. However, there is one thing that really has not changed and that is the Fleckvieh breed. They have not dictated to fads or shows and what the Germans and Austrians accomplished were decades of testing and breeding for superior milk and meat. Today I try to utilize many of the older Austrian and Fleckvieh bulls from the early imports of the 1970’s. My long term goal has been to produce outcross genetics that other breeders could add to their program to spice and change things up a bit. Also I have relied heavily on cow families that have proven themselves over years of production. I hope as you look through our sale cattle and our herd that you realize there was a plan to produce cattle very distanced from their original polled base. I have worked to create animals with a unique genetic package and line breeding of various sires and cow families, particularly the Neff line of cattle. I could not do many of the things on the farm without the wonderful people around me and would like to say a sincere Thank You to Andrew Kautsch, Pearl and Greg Walthall, and my family, friends, and neighbors.

• FSS Maureens Remus 602D is a big, long bodied, thick heifer with a great hip structure that compliments her feminine front end. In my opinion Remus is the better of the full brothers than Romulus. • Queen of the Nile is the type of heifer that will be extremely profitable. She is sired by Solway Viaduct, our super deep sided and thick herd bull who goes back to Hacks Bold Fenella. She is double bred Hacks Bold Fenella on the top and bottom. The advantage of these linebred females is that when you outcross to different genetics their progeny really grow with that added heterosis.
