7th Annual Performance on the Platte Charolais Bull Sale

We would like to welcome you to our 7th Annual “Performance On The Platte” Charolais Bull Sale. This year’s set of bulls are a testament to our commitment to bring you the best genetics available.

The beef industry is in an interesting time. Cow numbers and ultimately the number of head being driven through the system is in shorter supply. The effects of this will result in higher prices for the cow/calf man and feeding sector with lower supply and strong demand shifting the balance of power into producer’s hands. While it seems that hide color, rather than quality are determining trends and viscous rumors, Charolais influenced cattle continue to put on more pounds and muscle at weaning, greater advantages in feeding performance, higher yielding cattle on the rail, still while making the grade. The advantages of hybrid vigor when using Charolais bulls on British-type cows is apparent at every level in the industry. The industry needs Charolais bulls.

This offering has many types of genetics packages from purebred to hybrids. You may notice that many of the sire groups being offered are by previous high-selling bulls from past POTP sales, like Lexington, Counselor, Full Rush, Thorogood and Mandan. These sires descend from some of our top cow families and donors that we are building our herds around. This is the deepest quality set of bulls that we have produced, reflecting our efforts for herd improvement through putting pressure on economically relevant traits.

Our goals are to have cattle that not only look good with great structure, muscle, balance and volume but also improve profit driven traits like marbling, carcass weight, weaning weight, and post weaning performance all while having calves that come easily with vigor at birth. We pay attention to what we call “Cattlemen Traits” like disposition, vigor in calves at birth, fertility, easy fleshing ability, hair coat, foot structure, head shape, and udder quality. Through our diligent efforts to collect as much accurate data on our calf crops as possible, we are able to provide the most reliable information available for our customers to use for their own sire selection. We are also utilizing 100K Genomic testing on many of our top end bull prospects, further investing into the accuracy of their EPDs. Ultimately, we want well-balanced cattle that do everything above average in all traits. Sounds easy on paper but such a goal in reality is quite a challenge. Which ever type of bull you prefer for your own herd, we have bulls that ultimately will positively impact your profitability and the beef industry. This year we have welcomed Whitetail Farms as a cooperator to sell bulls with us. Whitetail Farms has purchased some of our most elite bulls in numerous past sales. They have also built their Charolais cow herd with females from the Heart-J and Rennert Ranch herds making them a perfect fit to compliment our offering. The EPDs reported in the catalog are current as of January 15, 2023. Many bulls have been 100K & PA tested. Please reference www.charolaisusa.org for current numbers.

DELIVERY

Free delivery up to 250 miles on bull purchases. We will assist with trucking arrangements for further distances. If you prefer to haul your own bull(s) on sale day, we will deduct $100 per lot on purchases over $3,000.

Before delivery, the bulls will be examined by a veterinarian for breeding soundness. If you take your bull(s) prior to our fertility testing, we will pay to have your bull(s) tested by your own veterinarian at a reasonable cost.

HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The consignors to the “2023 Performance on the Platte” Bull Sale have excellent herd health programs including deworming, stringent vaccination procedures and a balanced mineral program.

Post weaning: Darr Feed Yard does a professional job caring for and developing the bulls from October 15th until delivery time. The bulls have been fed a high roughage diet consisting of silage, ground forages and wet distiller’s grains, with a fortified Availa-4 Mineral/Vitamin package.

GUARANTEE

All bulls will sell with a first breeding season reproductive guarantee, which includes the first 60 days after turn out. Reproductive injuries must be examined by a veterinarian. If a satisfactory bull is available for replacement we will replace the bull; if there is no replacement available you will be awarded sale credit, minus salvage value, for a future purchase. In order for a replacement to be made, the bull needs to be fed and cared for adequately and not neglected. This guarantee does not cover death or loss of use and is limited to the purchase price of the animal. If you wish to insure your purchase(s), insurance will be available sale day.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Cash or check. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer will handle any disputes as to bids. Payment in full is expected immediately following the sale and prior to cattle load out, unless prior arrangements have been made. Cattle will not be transferred until paid for in full. Invoiced (absentee) purchases are payable in full within 14 days of the sale.

— This is an outstanding performance Charolais bull here! He has one of the largest weaning weights on the sale at 855 lbs that ratio’d 108 and a Yearling Weight of 1484 to ratio 115. He was gaining an outstanding 5.526 lbs/day on test and closed out at 4.2 lbs/day ranking amongst the best of the best. He is a stout made, heavy muscled bull with lots of volume who stands square on all four corners. He is out of one of our donor females and sired by RENN Lexington 6346, who was our high-selling bull on our very first POTP Bull Sale. — Here is a virgin two year old purebred Charolais bull. He is an outstanding, bigger framed, growth bull with an impressive 843 lbs weaning weight to ratio 110. He sold on last year’s sale, but the buyer didn’t realize he was dehorned until he got to their place, so we brought him back and he gets another chance of finding a new home this year.
