8th Annual Performance on the Platte Charolais Sale by Rennert Marketing/Brandmark Imaging

It’s hard to believe it is already time for our 8th Annual Performance On The Platte Charolais Bull Sale. We have come a long way in the past eight years. We are continually striving to improve the cow herds involved by building on strong cow families and utilizing breed-leading sires, both walking the pastures and in our A.I. and E.T. programs. We diligently keep records and measure every trait. Many of the sires of the bulls offered have headlined past sales, including Lexington, Freeland, Counselor and Cowboy Romeo. This year’s offering is full of high-powered, heavy muscled, big bodied, athletic bulls with by far the best set of EPDs that we have ever offered. The majority of the bulls are purebred, white Charolais bulls, but new this year we have some purebred Charolais Red Factor bulls to offer as well. As always, we have a strong selection of hybrid bulls that we call “Golden Gainers.” These Golden Gainers range in Charolais percentage from 25%, 3/8, 50%, 5/8, 75% and higher percent with Red Angus being the balance of the other breed percentage. These have been wildly popular in recent years and we think you will like them for your commercial breeding herds. There really will be something for everyone in this offering and in all price ranges. Charolais sired calves are always in high demand. We get reports from many of our customers that they are topping their local markets or video sales that they are marketing their livestock through. As always, Charolais cattle offer high growth along with quality carcass traits, feed conversion and improved yield - all of which are extremely important aspects of the Beef Business. We truly enjoy watching the success of our customers. Some of our customers that feed their own calves to finish are seeing profitable outcomes with incredible carcass results on their tally sheets. The EPDs reported in the catalog are current as of January 19, 2024. Many bulls have been 100K & PA tested. Please reference www.charolaisusa.org for current numbers.

BREEDING SOUNDNESS EXAM

Prior to delivery, all bulls will be examined by a veterinarian and have passed a breeding soundness exam. If you take your bull(s) prior to our fertility testing, we will pay to have your bull(s) tested by your veterinarian at a reasonable cost.

HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT

The consignors to the “2024 Performance on the Platte” Bull Sale have excellent herd health programs including deworming, stringent vaccination procedures and a balanced mineral program. Post weaning: Darr Feed Yard does a professional job caring for and developing the bulls from October 15th until delivery time. The bulls have been fed a high roughage diet consisting of silage, ground forages and wet distiller’s grains, with a fortified Availa-4 Mineral/Vitamin package.

GUARANTEE

All bulls will sell with a first breeding season reproductive guarantee, which includes the first 60 days after turn out. Reproductive injuries must be examined by a veterinarian. If a satisfactory bull is available for replacement, we will replace the bull; if there is no replacement available you will be awarded sale credit, minus salvage value, for a future purchase. In order for a replacement to be made, the bull needs to be fed and cared for adequately and not neglected. This guarantee does not cover death or loss of use and is limited to the purchase price of the animal. If you wish to insure your purchase(s), insurance will be available sale day.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Cash or check. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer will handle any disputes as to bids. Payment in full is expected immediately following the sale and prior to cattle load out, unless prior arrangements have been made. Cattle will not be transferred until paid for in full. Invoiced (absentee) purchases are payable in full within 14 days of the sale.

RENN COUNSLEOR 320L There is no better way to start this offering than with this tremendous set of ET Flush brothers. They are sired by the $17,500 top-selling bull from 2021 POTP Bull Sale, RENN Counselor 0713. The Counselor sire group was extremely popular on last years sale with 14 sons averaging $7,400 and the top son at $34,000. His first daughters are just coming into production and we couldn’t be more excited about the future of these young females. The donor dam of these first four lots is FH Ms B09 Nancy 9006 P who is one very impressive female herself garnering much attention and fetching $6,000 as a bred heifer on Fox Hollow’s Production Sale in 2020. — This calf was born to the great old Heart-J 177 cow. That cow had always raised some really top notch offspring and the winter of 2023 was hard on the old girl. Shortly after calving we drafted this bull to one of Rennert Ranch’s cows, 6015, who lost her calf and she raised this guy. The calf is a purebred Charolais but the old 177 cow didn’t carry papers so he is recorded as a 50% Char. Nonetheless this is a very good stout made bull who ratio’d 106 at weaning.

— This is a nice dark cream colored halfblood bull. He has a strong WW Ratio of 107 and YW ratio of 103. Test gain had him at 4.4 lbs/day which is one of the very highest in the sale. He goes back to a very productive grand dam 4161 who has been a standout producer for Heart-J.

— Here is a low birth weight, calving ease bull that is 25% Charolais and 75% Red Angus. We have had tremendous success with Schuler Rebel for many years using him on heifers.
