WHY IS JANUARY A GOOD TIME
TO GO ON HOLIDAY?
January is a somewhat overlooked month for booking a trip away. However, there are a number of worthy reasons why January is one of the best times to travel. The first of these is because it is considered a ‘dead zone’ for airlines.
Dead zones are off-peak travel periods when most people do not want to fly, but airlines must fill their planes to stay in business, so they lower their ticket prices. The dead zone begins around the 6th or 7th of January and can continue into February.
Similarly, accommodation is considerably cheaper in January, with a study by Momondo.co.uk finding that January is consistently the cheapest month for a city break. This is due to the month being a low tourist season and many cities being colder than usual. Due to the fact that January is off-season in most countries, there will be far fewer tourists (and therefore, less crowds).
This is one of the most appealing aspects of traveling in January during the off-season: streets that would normally be crawling with tourists are deserted. The lack of tourists may make your experience more peaceful, and the absence of long lines will mean you can get far more sightseeing done in a short space of time.
